The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

He felt sad, there was no denying that. He couldn't pretend like it didn't exist, he didn't really feel like masking anything right now, not even the negative feelings. But at the same time, he was incredibly grateful for all that had happened, that overweighed his sense of grief at the abrupt ending, the more he thought about it.
He nodded as she gave him her name. He wasn't sure how to reply, he just averted his gaze, not moving or anything, standing still, waiting till someone told him he had to move. He didn't mind staying there, really. He wasn't one for not falling in line when asked to but he didn't feel like it at that moment. Not really, he didn't mind being shouted at for being an idiot and wasting his time there but she wasn't moving either, maybe she felt the same way? He sure hoped so.
He'd spent quite a lot of time with her so far, a considerable amount involved her invading his space and he thought he wouldn't have an issue now that they were "acquainted." Maybe it was the fact that she not only grabbed his arm but also said his name with that look in her eyes but it sent a few shivers down his spine but his eyes only widened for a second at most. He was getting used to not letting it show, at the very least.
Why did she want him to escort her to the owlery though? He didn't quite see how it was that much of an issue. Also, were they allowed being out even? She could go tomorrow in the morning. But he also didn't really mind. It was his only hope of spending more time with her. And the way she asked him made him feel like the letter wasn't the important bit here to begin with. He wasn't sure about breaking the rules but hell, he was ready to take that risk at that point. He nodded after a few seconds of thinking about it. There wasn't much of a doubt to begin with, maybe he just didn't want to look eager? God, he was acting strange, even by his standards.
He took a deep breath, helping him clear his head as he pulled his posure back up. "Let's go." He said, managing to look back up at her and tried giving her a smile, a weak one but a smile regardless. He didn't realise how excited he was till then. This was the second time he was sneaking out and this time it was by choice, not guilt. More importantly, it was like a huge weight being lifted from his chest. He felt really light all of a sudden, it was wonderful.

It was clear that the student in front of her needed as much assistance as possible to the Hospital Wing. Selim was severely injured-- that of his jaw and more-- and the thought of him getting himself to the hospital was unrealistic at this rate. Waiting for a few minutes, Maya listened for his consent. It was not as loud, but she heard an approval. With that, Maya instantly bent her knees prior to lifting up the student, ensuring not to pull her back.
He was a lot heavier than she had thought. Perhaps it was his bones that were heavier, because he seemed like a thin child. Nevertheless, Maya lifted him in her arms, and brought him straight to the Hospital Wing which was located one floor below them. It was without a doubt that Maya was thankful that it was going down rather than up when carrying him. She just hoped that the staircase would not have a mind of its own.
Leaving the room with Selim in her arms, she quickly looked back to see some of the students leaving. She hoped that when she came back, everyone would be heading back to their common rooms rather than lingering about in the ballroom.
Maya left the room.

Illowy stayed quiet as Meenauh tried to assure her that she was overall fine, not that the snake quite believed her. When Xailah tried to explain herself as to why she hadn't come forth about the situation, Illowy steadied her gaze on the girl; Meenauh, now more stable on her feet, broke away from the snake to hurry for her housemate, "You say that as if I'm not dying already..." she muttered, unsure if the lion would have heard her or not. Perhaps it was a morbid thing to say... but was she wrong? The curse, if not cured, would ultimately kill everyone afflicted sooner or later. At this point, what did she have to lose with a little more risk taking? Especially if she might be able to protect the other students from whatever had caused this.
As Meenauh took her friend's hand to leave, Illowy caught Xailah's promise to find her later before offering out a pinkie finger as she was tugged away. Surprisingly, it was a gesture not totally lost on the snake, but the girl was just out of reach to hope to catch the digit in her own to solidify the promise. No matter... she'd have to just depend on the Gryffindor's word and hope she'd stick to it this time.
All at once, Illowy found herself alone again. People were filing out. Her cousin and his date were gone, her own date was no where to be found... best to follow lead and take leave. The girl did just that, tucking a bit of hair behind her ear and starting for the door. For a moment, she just wanted space from all of this utter chaos and confusion that had been tonight.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

As Akari stayed close to Drew she felt her eyes slowly start to become heavy, and even began to notice that her feet were aching slightly from having been on her feet in her uncomfortable shoes for so long.
She then looked around to see that they were really some of the last few people in the ballroom. She sighed softly, for she knew that she should probably make her way back to her own dorm now.
She stopped swaying and slowly took a step back from Drew while quite like the beginning of the night let her hand remain in his as she looked back up at him and then said "I best be off now, I suppose it is getting quite late".
Her mouth then opened again as if she had an inclination to say something else, something more, but she suddenly stopped short. Instead of ruining the mood with a mumble of words that were bound to come out she just ended up staying quiet for a few more long seconds.
"Night Drew, Thank you for everything" She finally said softly, then with that gave his hand a small, barely noticeable squeeze before letting go completely, turning around and beginning to walk away towards the exit of the ballroom.
Once she reached the doorway she glanced back towards him and smiled quickly before turning away for real this time and slipping out at last.
She grinned to herself as she made her way back to the Gryffindor tower.
She had had a very memorable night indeed.
