The Meeting by the Lake PV Elliot Jones

Waiting for @Elliot Jones

Gabriella strode briskly down towards the lake, clutching her books tightly to her chest. In the distance she could see its dark mass ahead of her, almost frozen over. She breathed deeply out and her breath was visible in the brisk winter air. Under her feet, the frost on the ground crunched, and she couldn't wait to settle down by the water, wrapped in her winter blanket, talking her new friend. She checked her watch - ten minutes to one. She was slightly early, which was good, as it meant she was able to choose the optimum spot by the lake.

A few trees huddled together in a semicircle, creating a glade just by the bank of the lake. Nobody else was there; the atmosphere was completely quiet and serene. Nothing stirred, except for a few birds in the trees, and Gabriella couldn't wait to sit alone under that tree. Maybe curl up with a book, away from Jacob's prying eyes...

This was Hogwarts! she realised, shocked at the thoughts circling her head. You won't be alone, you'll be with your friend! And you won't have to worry about Jacob this time - he's all the way in Portsmouth! You're five hundred miles away from him!

She settled down in the glade and crossed her legs, wrapping her blanket around her shoulders, and waited for her friend to arrive.

Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

She looked up at the clock and realized it was 12:58
"damn it.. ive been waiting all day for this and now im going to be late!"
She sprang from the common room couch and ran quickly to her dormitory to grab her winter coat. She quickly put it on while she ran out and only stoped a quick second to put on a pair of boots. She ran through the halls, catching the attention of some ghost, portraits, and fellow first years who have seen her to be calm and collected.
I'm making a scene arent I... ugh but i dont want to be late! she thought to herself.
eh, if anybody mentions it Ill make sure they wont even think to do so again.

She arrived at the lake and searched for gabby, when she found her she stopped running and put her hands on her knees, slightly panting.
" sorry I...ran all the way... here... i...didnt want to... be late... sorry if... i kept you waiting. she said with a deep breath inbetween each word.

Once she caught her breath she sat down next to gabby, staring out at the frozen lake, with the wind whipping her hair around.

"It's ok!" cried Gabriella, as soon as Elliot sat down. "I arrived early." She stared out over the frozen lake. It was freezing cold, but it was a beautiful day.

"Sooo... how are you today?" she asked. She had been looking forward to this moment all morning, but she hadn't rehearsed anything to say, and with her limited social experience, rehearsals really were required. There was a pause. "I've got Charms homework," she stated. "You don't mind if I do it now, do you?"

She opened her ink bottle, and - taking great care not to spill it again - she put it on a flat part of the ground. She opened up a roll of parchment and her Charms textbook, dipped her quill in her ink and began to write, thinking, as she did so often, about how impractical quills were. Why can't wizards just use pens?

Despite loving the cold, Gabriella's hands were growing numb, and she hated feeling numb. "I wish I'd brought gloves," she muttered. "My hands are frozen." She always seemed to forget her gloves - even when she was completely equipped for the cold in every other way, she always seemed to forget to wear her gloves, and her hands always suffered because of it.

Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

"yah i dont mind, homework is somewhat important. Oh and if you need gloves..." She said and reached into her pocket and pulled out some green fingered gloves.
"sorry they're green, I am slytherin after all. "
She winked and smirked as she handed the gloves to gabby
"I dont need them, my hands dont get cold that often."
She smiled at her before pulling her hood over her head and lying down on the frost bitten ground, staring up at the sky and trying to make shapes out of the dark clouds above.
this is kind of fun...being with someone. Oh-
"-Oh that one looks like a frog!" She had said the last part of her thoughts aloud and blushed immensely out of embarrassment.
"I...I meant to say that in my head..."
She covered her face with her hands and laughed a little under her breath
I swear ive smiled and laughed more in the past two days i have know her then i have in my entire life.
She looked over at gabby for a minute before she caught herself staring and went back to looking at the clouds, trying to find more shapes hidden among them..

"Oh, thanks!" said Gabriella, taking the green gloves from Elliot and gratefully putting them on her own hands.

Sorry they're green, I am Slytherin after all, she had said.

Gabriella knew she ought not to care that he was in Slytherin, but she had spoken with Joyce the previous day, and Joyce had made some pretty convincing arguments about why not to trust a Slytherin... they had produced a lot of dodgy figures in their time. They had spawned a Dark Lord, for goodness' sake! A Dark Lord who had killed thousands of Muggles, just because!

Come on, Gabby, she said to herself. One Dark Lord is only one Slytherin. There's no use in prejudicing, and Elliot is NICE. Slytherins have traits beside evil.

She had Charms homework to do, but Elliot was looking for shapes among the clouds, and that was far more interesting than learning the history of Wingardium Leviosa. She titled her head back and tried herself to find the frog Elliot had mentioned. "It's ok," she said, as Elliot stifled a giggle. "Oh - I've found it too!"

A cloud floated across the sky, and the resemblance between it and a squatting frog was actually remarkable. "And that one looks a bit like the shape of Australia!" she cried. Come on, Gabby, why Australia of all places. It could look like any county. Germany? France? They all look like the cloud...

Elliot scanned the dark skies above, looking for the cloud
Australia... where is australia? she tilted her head a little to the right and found it.
"Oh yah! that does look like australia!" She started trying to find more
"Lets see... That one looks like a cauldron. Oh and a picture frame... Oh and maybe that one's a broom!" she pointed to each one as she said it.
she turned on her side to look at gabby again
"I thought you were going to be doing homework?"
She teased as she raised an eyebrow and sat up and grabbed Gabby's charms book and started reading various excerpts from it aloud, faking a serious tone as if she were a teacher reading it aloud to a class.
"This is obviously very important. And so fun. I just know i'm going to need all of this when i'm older." she joked after she read a couple lines from the book
This is fun...
she put the book back down and got a sudden cold chill, making her shiver
oh i forgot to zip my jacket... I was in a hurry.
She zipped the jacket up and layed back down, almost instantly warmer.

Gabriella tried to glare at Elliot as she took her Charms book, but her acting skills failed her and she broke out into peals of laughter. She was surprised at how much she was laughing - it wasn't like her life had been bad before, but she had never had such a good friend before, and she had definitely never laughed this much. And they had only known each other two days... she imagined what their relationship would be like if they were still friends in seventh year.

The Slytherin thing was still bothering her, though...

For the fifth time, she reasoned with herself that being a Slytherin was no bad thing. They had produced one dark wizard, ages ago. That was nothing to do with the Slytherins of now - of course it wasn't. She was friends with Elliot, and some girls she had made friends with on the train had since been sorted into Slytherin, although she hadn't spoken to them since.

"Gimme back my Charms book..." She snatched it back of Elliot and began to write down the answers to her homework on her parchment. She felt she should start a conversation about something, but she didn't know what. "Uh - so what do you want to talk about?" Master conversation starter.

"wow you're great at starting conversations huh?" she teased, and sat up on her forearms "Lets see what is your favorite color i guess? Mine is blue. A lot of people expect slytherins to be obsessed with green, and though its a nice color, its definitely not my favorite. So steriotypical." She had said the last part jokingly and added a little tsk tsk at the end for acting flair.
She looks off...she's definitely debating something in her head... pretending not to, but still is. she thought to herself, wondering what she was thinking about at that moment.
should i mention it? It might be weird, and i dont want to pry... But what if it has to do with me? Nah, probably not... But it's possible... she started to worry a bit, switching between worrying a little and reassuring herself. She went to bite her lip, a bad habit of hers when shes thinking about something a lot, but quickly membering the incident from just the other day decided against it .
if she wants to tell me she can, I'm not going to force something out of her. Ugh this girl makes me soft. Normally i wouldnt think twice about forcing something out of somebody... now here i am having a full on debate with myself. she thought, slightly frowning towards the end of her thoughts, but quickly covered it up with a small smile.

"Uh," began Gabriella. "I quite like purple, I guess. Purple and blue. Dark green is nice too. I like deep colours I can paint with, because I really like painting." She paused. "Do you like art and painting?"

For a moment, she saw a slight frown flitting across Elliot's face. It was almost as if she were suspicious of Gabriella's motives, like she had been lured here and was about to be drowned in the lake. Gabriella wondered if it was something she had said, and ran through the conversation in her mind. Clouds. Then charms book, she stole my charms book. Then favourite colours... Nothing anywhere she might say something controversial - they had chosen pretty mundane topics to talk about, which was no bad thing, seeing as they had only known each other two days. Maybe she caught onto my worrying about Slytherin, it dawned on Gabriella, and vowed to herself not to worry about Elliot's house any more. After all, Slytherin didn't mean evil! It meant ambitious and cunning! Only some Slytherins might be ambitious in a bad way, she guessed.

Even so, Gabriella couldn't hold it any longer. She needed to know whether it was something she said that was the problem, or whether Elliot could read her mind and see her thoughts on Slytherin. "What's up?" she asked, in what she thought was a casual and jovial tone. "You seem worried about something..."
