A Familiar Face
Serena was on her way to the owlery to send an owl to her parents. it seemed as if her brother Janis, was acting like such a brat to their parents, since he was still jealous that he couldn't be at Hogwarts with her. She was going to send both a letter and a parcel to her parents; which contained a spare ravenclaw scarf just to pacify her younger brother,
She finally reached the owlery after a long walk. A large brown barn owl looked excited to deliver her packages, and so she picked him. "Lovely. Such a good owl." She cooed to the owl. it was very sweet indeed. Too bad, her parent didn't allow her yet to have an owl of her own. They told her that if she managed to get excellent marks by the end of the year, they might just gift her with one.
The ravenclaw was finally able to secure her parcel on the lovely owl, "Have a safe trip, lovely bird." She told the owl affectionately before it flew away to her parents' home. She didn't leave the owlery at once. She decided to look around the palace first since it was rare to be in a place where a massive number of owls all gathered at.
The owlery was a tall structure, and the owls that were there varied in sizes, species and behaviors. She spotted a couple of eagle owls. They were very majestic owls, but she loved each and every one of them. She looked up for a bit and admired the owls that surrounded her, which was when something unfortunate happened. An owl's droppings happened to land flat on her face as she was looking up, Serena was almost glad that her mouth was closed, but still, animal excrement were still excrements and some of it got in her eye.
Serena became frantic as she tried to remove the dropping from her face, but she wasn't able to see much. She needed help quite badly.

A Familiar Face
So Mardella had made it! At long last! It felt like it had been an age since she'd waved her roommates goodbye to head up and deliver her letter. She hoped the fact that the stairs kept moving and the corridors kept getting her lost meant that Hogwarts liked her... or perhaps was just trying to get to know her? She hoped.
Her letter had gotten more than a little crinkled in her pocket on the way up, and as she made her way up the stairs (non-moving ones, thank Merlin!) to the Owlery, she tried to smooth out the parchment in her grasp. It had been several days since the term had begun and Ma was probably going a little stir-crazy waiting to hear from her. It wasn't that she'd forgotten to write them perse, but she'd had trouble writing the letter in the first place. She'd mostly told white lies in this one, trying to make up for the studious pupil she'd promised Ma she'd be, but kind of not fulfilled. She rarely picked up a book unless she had to, and even in this 'fancy posh school', as Dillon had joked, that hadn't changed.
There was a girl in the wide chamber of the Owlery looking to be sending a letter of her own off, a parcel attached to one of the larger owls' feet. Idly, Mardella wondered if there was anything she could send home next time...the Sorting Hat? Now that would be funny! The girl was strangely familiar. Perhaps she'd seen the blond Ravenclaw around the Diagon a lot, Merlin knew she was there often enough. Or maybe a customer from the Silver Moon? Keeping a curious eye on the other girl, she moved a little ways past her and set about looking for a school owl.
"Umm, would one of you be able to deliver my letter?" She asked the birds in the rafters. They puffed their feathered chests and eyed her imperiously. "I mean, if you would like?" Mardella hurried to say, "I'm sure all of you are very capable!"
There was a brief pause and then a bird dropped from its higher perch onto the window ledge. It was a strange looking thing (but she supposed most owls did look odd) with very short tufts for ears atop its head in angles that made them look almost like eyebrows slanted upwards in comical surprise above its wide yellow eyes.
Mardella rolled the letter up, so that it would fit neatly in the owl's talons and was just about to slide it between the hooks of its feet when a loud SPLAT sound echoed through the chamber. Instinctually, she glanced down at herself and patted the top of her head. She was tall enough that birds had mistaken her for a mini-tree before, Tiordan would have teased, but it was a valid concern. Finding herself clean, she glanced over her shoulder to the other figure in the room.
Oh dear. The blonde had not been so fortunate in avoiding damage, there was gunk on her face which seemed almost frozen stiff in an effort not to spread it across her cheeks further. Frantically, the girl tried to wipe at her face with her bare hands, getting more on her fingertips.
"Umm, are you alright?" She tried, approaching slowly so as not to startle the girl. Some witches and wizards had quite...extreme...reactions when surprised. Reaching into her pocket, Mardella took out the pack of tissues Ma had given her before she'd gotten on the train and pulled one out. "Here, I'll get it. Stay still." She pressed one tissue into the girl's messy fingers and used another to mop some of the droppings out of the Ravenclaw's eyes.
Someone smarter would have probably used a spell, but honestly Mardella wasn't sure that wouldn't do something worse, like set the blonde on fire. They were only first year after all.
