A Surprise Letter
The daybreak has not given any hints Verner’s day would be any different, compared to other January days or just days in general. Verner was slowly getting used to school routine. His usual days would start with careful and silent tiptoeing towards the bathroom where he completed morning hygiene. Afterwards he would get dressed and wake up his room mates so they could breakfast together. On days he needed to complete his homework, wanted to practise something, or wanted to send his family an owl, he would sneak out of their common room even before breakfast, complete what was needed quickly, and go to the great hall afterwards.Verner's thoughtsreaction to "Love Your Secret Admirer"
And today he also found himself in the Great hall. He was sitting alone at the table eating some scrambled eggs, toast and drunk coffee with milk. It was at this time a young tiny school owl carrying a letter unexpectedly landed in front of him. It extended its leg proudly as a sign it was content with its quick success and probably wanted some kind of reward.
Verner carefully undid the string attaching the letter to the owl’s leg, gave the owl a bit of bacon as a reward and sent it off. In the mean time he wondered *”What could this be? I hope nothing has happened with my mom or dad…*”. And as he opened the letter and inspected the parchment and writing, he instantly realised it was not from his family. He did not seem to recognise the writing, even though it looked very neat. It looked kind of familiar though. *”Where have I seen it?”*
Verner started reading the letter, and maybe it was out of habit or maybe some kind of fate’s hand at play, he sipped his coffee and then it happened.
Verner’s eyes landed on the portion of the letter saying *”I have a crush on you”*, then quickly jumped to *”I watch you all the time…”* and while reading this, the surprise made some of his coffee enter the wrong direction in his throat and he begun to cough… Even through his coughing, he has protected the letter. He needed to read it again!
Verner did not expect anybody would have a crush on him. He read the letter two or three times over just to make sure he has understood the contents properly, but the message seemed to be clear. *”No possibility to misinterpret the contents.”*
Then he started looking around, expecting the ever watching person to be somewhere nearby, watching him again. And even though he looked in the direction of Gryffindor table, nobody seemed to pay attention to him at this time. Well, he might be wrong, he thought. Somehow his heart was beating wildly and during those times his observing skill would be disturbed.
Even though Verner did not identify the Gryffindor girl on his first glance, it certainly was interesting, and he decided to find her — by himself of course. He might get treated like a fool if he asked other boys. *”I just hope it is not some kind of a joke”*, he continued thinking for himself and scratched his chin.
He smiled… *”So somebody likes me… ”*, he repeated silently for himself and his curiosity forced him to make plans on figuring out who it was.
Verner’s day started very differently, but it did not seem like a bad start, he would see more later.
