Awaiting the arrival of @Haley Rose
"Knowing a person is like music, what attracts us to them is their melody, and as we get to know who they are, we learn their lyrics."
With the past few days behind him, Simon had completed quite a bit of work. There was a new spell to practice in Charms, an essay in History of Magic, countless assignments for astronomy, and a project for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Beyond that, there were letters home to his aunt and plans for an upcoming dance, as well as registering for various clubs within the school, and spending time with friends.
Also, between all that, there was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was a group of questions that had been decided by Simon and Haley Rose that might help the other get to know them a little better. With already having this sort of bond on an emotional level, it would be nice to gain some information as well on one's likes and preferences, especially since their friendship seemed to be building.
The two had decided to meet there in the Rehearsal Room so that they could be free to discuss what they wrote down without disturbing any others.Get to Know this Awesome Person

It was Saturday morning when Haley woke up still a little tired. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and turned in her bed. Suddenly she heard something crackling and she remembered what she had done the night before. She was filling out the questionnaire for Simon and must have fallen asleep doing it sometime late at night. Even though Haley had used every free minute in the last week for this, she wanted to make an effort for Simon, which is why answering the questions took some time.Meeting @Simon Kincaid
Besides the daily school routine and all the homework, Haley didn't have much time, which she had totally underestimated and therefore had to take a night shift last night, which she had gladly done. She took the now slightly crumpled piece of paper and read through the questions. She had already answered most of them, only a few were still missing. Before Haley did anything else she took her pen and started to answer the remaining questions.
After some time she finished and now there was only less item on her to-do list for this weekend. She still had to write a few letters to her family but she would take care of that later. She got up and went straight to the bathroom to shower and get ready. When she was back in her dorm she noticed that it was already late. So she quickly scurried into the Great Hall with the hope of getting some breakfast before she went back, grabbed the note and headed to the agreed upon meeting place.
Haley went down the stairs quickly, she didn't want to be late for her meeting with Simon and as she was near the Rehearsal Room she heard a piano playing. That's certain Simon she thought to herself and started to smile. And when she went through the door her thought was confirmed. There sat Simon in the corner area playing piano. She walked up to him while continuing to listen to the beautiful music. She had last played during the vacations at home but since she was back at Hogwarts she hardly had time to practice and so she had to brush up her skills with her father on occasions, it never took long for her to come back in but she always enjoyed the togetherness with her father.
She now stood behind Simon hoping she wouldn't startle him, "that sounds nice." She smiled broadly at him as he looked up at her and she sat down next to him on the small stool so there was barely room between them. "So, how have you been?" She assumed that Simon was in the same situation as she was and that he had a lot to do, which is why she was always happy when they had time for each other.
While she listened to him, she dug her note out of her pocket and held her questionnaire between her index and middle fingers. "So I give you mine and you give me yours or how do you want to do it?" She held out her completed slip of paper to him and waited for him to take it.

Colors and such with @Haley Rose
The heavy wooden doors of the rehearsal hall always made a creaking sound when opened so he heard her come in the moment she did so. Still, being at the last few measures of the song, he wanted to finish it so he did and smiled when she came and sat directly next to him on the piano bench.
"Thank you," he said of her compliment. It was nice to hear that one's music was appreciated. "I'm doing well, and you?" Despite all the work from the past few days he had kept up reasonably well and thought some of the assignments would earn him some pretty good marks.
"We could just exchange them, or how about we run down them a couple questions at a time? Open, seminar format. That gives the other the opportunity to interrogate and tear down the other as well," but he smiled, having no intention of ever actually doing that.
"Okay, first up...favorite color and favorite food. Favorite color would probably be somewhat of a navy blue, and I've always favored that against gold accents, like with the style of my bedroom." Back in South Kensington, it was those colors. Despite that, Simon didn't really have a LEAST favorite color. They were all nice.
"Favorite food is a difficult one," he said, wondering if he should admit that to Haley. He felt odd whenever food was mentioned. It was something EVERYONE needed, so why did he feel that way? He didn't know. "I find very little I like. I think I'm the pickiest eater I've ever met. My preference would be steak, every day if I could. I can eat a limited amount of vegetables but fruits are too sweet and I can't really stomach pastries or other baked items." Who didn't like cupcakes?! Simon Kincaid.
"My aunt says I've always been that way and I don't understand it. I TRY to try new things, I really do - but I have to just force it down. And then somehow I seem to always feel hungry. It's a contradiction, I know."
And his poor aunt would try so hard. She worked in a bookshop and bakery and was one of their head bakers. This was an establishment that got really really good reviews too! She'd make something new and then bring it home, hoping that maybe this would be the something that Simon would finally like, only for it to fail as all those attempts before did.
"Alright, love, you're up. Top two questions."

Even though Haley had been under an incredible amount of stress the last week, she was doing very well. She enjoyed her time at Hogwarts even though a lot of her time was spent on her education she always had time to make other memories here. "I'm fine too, just been a stressful week, but it's no big deal." She smiled at him and turned her gaze to the piano. While absentmindedly stroking the individual keys lightly. She remembered sitting in her father's lap as a small child and watching him play until one day he taught her to play by herself.Tell me about your dreams @Simon Kincaid
Haley liked Simon's suggestion and nodded in acknowledgement as she picked up her paper and opened it to read her answers. While this was not necessary, she did not want to lose the thread either. She laughed at his comments and waited curiously for his first answer - Favorite Color. That was one of the easiest questions for Haley, she had written that one down without having to think about it another second.
"You'll have to show me your room sometime." Haley would be really interested, she always found that one's room reflected the person in a certain way and she would be more than interested in what Simons looked like. "For me, this was actually the easiest question. Favorite color - easy - green. No more to say." She laughed but that was the truth. Ever since Haley could remember her favorite color had been green and that had never changed.
Haley had to smile, even for her the question was not the easiest but definitely easier than for Simon. "Steak every day. Sounds good to me." She laughed, wanting to show him that there really was nothing wrong with being picky "Sometimes it just is what it is. You can't choose your tastes and everyone is different." She shrugged and smiled at the nickname he had just called her by. "I, on the other hand, am the ultimate all-eater, but I prefer hearty foods to sweet ones." Haley liked to eat her grandmother's cookies but she didn't eat sweet foods often, if she was craving something it was salty.
"Okay whats next?" She looked at her paper and read the next two questions. "Tell Me About Your Family and Hopes/Dreams." She set the note aside again and looked to Simon "So Mr. Handsome, what can you tell me about this?"

Will he ever stop talking, @Haley Rose?
"Ah, family and hopes and dreams." These categories he didn't write too much on his list as it either seemed rather jumbled for the first and rather lacking for the second.
The family one. He'd start there. Simon wondered how much he had told Haley about his family already and hoped there wasn't too much repetition to bore her. Setting his note down on the piano in front of him he glanced to her. "So I'll go down the family tree as far as I can," he began, but she didn't need to worry about this taking hours. The knowledge of his family tree was a very small little itty bitty tree; practically a sapling.
"My mum's parents both passed away in an accident just after she graduated here from Hogwarts. She was thrown into the adult world full force, dealing with house payments and bills and being in charge of her fourteen year old sister. I'm sure it wasn't easy but she was a Gryffindor and she did what she could to make the best of it. I think about the time she started feeling as if she could handle it, I came along...unexpectedly." Very few planned to have a child at 17.
"I don't know the details. The time or two I got the courage to ask my aunt about it I would falter and fail. I don't even know my father's name or where he lives or if he's alive still or if he's of magic. I don't know any of it. I was told though that she choose to have me alone and he didn't even learn that she was pregnant. He doesn't even know I exist and in my own eyes, it's like he doesn't exist because there's not a name or a photo or anything I can piece that together from. Even Kincaid is my mum's family name."
He wasn't upset with her though but he knew it wasn't the normal.
"My mum, she grew ill. It was diagnosed not long after I was born. Cancer. She tried treatment but still faded fast and that brought Aunt Maggie into the picture more. She did all she could to help and make things easier. My mum's name was Arabella. She died when I was three. I've got photos but I don't personally remember her."
"Being now three, that meant it threw Aunt Maggie into that adult world of house payments and raising a child at 17 only this time it was her nephew and she was doing it alone. Again though, she handled it well. I had a great childhood and I've got one of the loveliest persons in my corner if I should ever need any help at all. I adore her."
"She's twenty-five and has put so much on hold for me. She never went to university but gets paid rather well at this upscale bookstore and bakery where she's one of their head bakers. She's selfless and donates her time, her energy, her money. She's got a kind heart and her happiness is infectious. I'm grateful to have her. Her only downfall is sometimes she's afraid to be twenty-five, to be young and to go on dates and so forth. I kinda hope that by coming here to Hogwarts she starts taking some time for herself, you know? She more than deserves it."
"And uh...that's it. That's my family. I don't know anything about my father. Never seen a photo to put a face to his image - never known a name. I just know that my mum wanted to do this alone and without him and so he never knew she was pregnant. So...I've got a father out there somewhere who doesn't even know I exist and honestly, it's a lot like he doesn't exist since I know so little." That wasn't something that bothered Simon often but if he would ever let himself think too much on the subject he would have questions that would pop up. Questions that he'd stuff down, throw out, and eventually try his best to forget about.
He smiled over at Haley for talking so much and leaned toward her, bumping his shoulder playfully against hers. "Don't fall asleep on me, now," he teased, as if he was boring the life out of her.
"As for hopes and dreams... it's going to sound totally stereotypical Hufflepuff, so are you ready for it? I want to do something that helps people." Simon glanced down. I don't know what that would be yet. Now that I've discovered this magical world, a whole new list of jobs have opened up as possibilities - ones I never even knew existed. I'm thinking maybe I want to be a doctor, a healer, or a nurse. Maybe I want to be someone who works in social care or a therapist or even work in law or politics to help make changes and improvements to other's lives. Maybe a minister. The only one that doesn't fall into the category of helping others that would be super cool would be dragon trainer."

Haley listened intently to Simon's words as he told the story of his mother and aunt. How he didn't know who his father was and how his father didn't know he existed. How his mother had to die much too early and now his aunt was there for him. Again and again she had the desire to take Simon in her arms or to take his hand or to stroke his back, but she did not do it. She just sat there quietly, looking at the piano and listening to his story. To Haley, all this information was terrible, but that was only because she was just hearing it all for the first time. She was sure Simon was handling it much better since he had grown up with it, yet she felt a little sad for Simon. She would also be much more curious about who his father was. True, his mother had her reasons and Haley wouldn't doubt them at all, but his father never had the chance to prove himself or change, after all, he knew nothing about his own son. But she wouldn't call Simon on it, that would have been rude and inconsiderate of her.living in the here and now @Simon Kincaid
She smiled at him as he bumbed her lightly, "I'll do my best." She joked back, faking a yawn. But she quickly became serious again, she didn't want Simon to think he was boring. He could tell her how he had once slept for 20 hours straight and even that story Haley would listen to without boredom. "No honestly, thank you for sharing that with me. It was anything but boring." She smiled at him again but she was still a little sad at the idea that his mother had to take her life way too soon and Simon had to grow up without her.
"Dragon trainer would be crazy cool!" She laughed and could well imagine how Simon would deal with dragons someday. "I haven't thought about it in such detail yet but let's start with my family." Haley sighed once and began to speak. There wasn't much new she could have told Simon, since she didn't know much herself and Simon was already aware of that. "I wish I could tell more about this and you already know most of it but I'll give it a shot." She did take a breath and then she began to tell.
"My mother is also a witch and went to school here, she was in Ravenclaw. She now works as an obliviator. My father is a muggle, which also makes me know a lot about the muggle world and have some muggle friends and also use some muggle objects that most wizard kids don't know about. He works as a doctor in a hospital. I love them both with all my heart." Haley was very thankful for her family and had a super bond with her parents. Except for some minor disputes that happened and the family history issue, there were never any problems between them - at least not until now.
"My parents lived in Ireland for a long time, where I was born, but we moved back to London to be closer to our family. That was the moment I met my mother's family. One of the closest people is definitely my grandmother and you definitely have to meet her sometime." She smiled at the thought of her grandmother but also felt herself missing her old home.#
"I have four cousins, also wizards, with whom I have close contact and get along well. The closest bond I have is with my oldest cousin and he is like a big brother to me. Unfortunately, they don't live in London and we don't see each other very often but we write each other letters often." Haley briefly wondered if she had forgotten anything important, but she couldn't think of anything else except for things Simon already knew.
"As I recently learned, there is a talent in our blood to talk to snakes that has always skipped a few generations but has now reappeared. But that's no secret to you either." She had to laugh at the thought of their first meeting in the library and was glad that Simon had found her in that state then and no one else.
"To sum up, I don't know very much about our family history yet, but hopefully that will change soon. Still, I love my family dearly and they are all very warm and have their hearts in the right place." She shrugged her shoulder. She wished she could have told more and especially more exciting things, but she couldn't.
Without giving it much thought, she continued with her next point. "I actually don't have that many dreams yet that go far into the future or that involve my professional training. I just don't know what exactly I want to do yet but I guess that's okay."
Haley knew she was still young and had a few more years to give it more thought.
"One of my dreams though is to see a lot of the world and not live a boring life. I don't want to travel forever or continuously, at some point I want to have arrived, but I don't want that to be all I will see." Compared to Simon's answers, Haley's sounded like nonsense to her. As if she didn't know what was really important but that's how it was. This was what she dreamed about but she knew dreams didn't have to be forever. Many were, but many could also change with time and especially many could be added to with time and so it would be with Haley.
"I hope to have a memorable time here at Hogwarts, make many and good friends for life, be there for others and share my happiness." That was something Haley could say with clear certainty. Her hopes and dreams played more in the present or near future and would continue to adjust and add new ones.

More talking with @Haley Rose
He wondered if that was hard, having a split relationship where one person was of magic and one wasn't. It seemed like it might be as they were really two entire different worlds. "I wonder how far we live from one another. I'm in South Kensington," of London.
"Alright, next up...current ambitions and perfect days." He felt Haley had already shared with him some of her current ambitions but maybe she would have more to add. Still, he had to get through his answers first. "My current ambitions and goals are to do well here. All this magical stuff, the entire world is new to me and I want to swim, not sink, ...you know? I want it to all click and make sense and know what I'm doing in my classes and what's the bigger picture in everything. I want to learn the spells, the potions, the terminology, the customs and the magical creatures. All of it."
"Beyond school and grades I want to keep the friendships and bonds that I've made with friends back home as well as the friends I've met here. Strengthen them. Make new ones. I also want to learn another instrument. Maybe trumpet but I'm not sure how I'd be on a horn instrument yet." He was more used to his saxophone so maybe he needed to stick with the reed instruments.
"As for perfect day...." he paused, trying to think about that. "Waking up, sitting by a warm fire leisurely for awhile, reading a book. Then maybe going to ice skate or something. Surrounded by people I care about. Add in some music and at night, taking a walk along the beach." He loved the ocean, even if he couldn't see it in its splendid glory in the sunshine.
He really hadn't put much thought into the perfect day question. Or rather, he put thought into it but it wasn't so easy to come up with any sort of answer. Simon was such a 'go-with-the-flow' sort of person that he tried to enjoy all the days he had and all the days ahead of him, no matter if the moment was full of excitement or stress, comfort or chaos.
"Your turn."

Haley was surprised to find that the two didn't live far from each other at all. "Oh, funny, we still live in Chelsea, but we are currently moving. I don't know exactly where it is. Somewhere outside, more country, no neighbors." She shrugged. She didn't know her new house yet but would get to know it soon.dreaming of the perfect day @Simon Kincaid
Haley was already eager to hear Simon's answer regarding the perfect day. She had a lot of fun with this question, she had to think a bit but not much. Current ambitions was her absolute hate question. She would have liked to leave it blank. What were her current amibtions? Haley wasn't sure. Haley kept nodding in agreement with Simon as he talked to her and could find herself agreeing on many of the same things. She knew Simon was musically gifted, he could play the piano, could sing, and now wanted to learn another instrument. She was excited by so much passion for something. She always liked it when people were open to new things and always learning new things.
The beach. Haley loved it and the ocean and hadn't been there in forever. She liked Simon's idea of a perfect day. It was similar to Haley's in that it was very simple. "That really sounds like a perfect day." She smiled at Simon and her desire to be able to spend a day like that with him someday came up.
"Okay, so, Current ambitions." She didn't want to answer that question, she felt uncomfortable with the situation that she had found it so hard to answer. "So um, I don't really know." She shrugged her shoulders, feeling embarrassed. "Yeah I know, that's totally stupid. But my mind just went blank on that question. I mean, I'm good at school and I do a lot for it but what else?" she slumped her shoulders. How could it be that someone didn't really have an answer to that? "I'm definitely good at being there for other people, having a sympathetic ear, and sharing my good humor with others." She laughed a little in exasperation. Were those her only ambitions? "Someday I want to do something big. I can't tell you what yet. But something will be."
Haley didn't elaborate on this failed attempt at an answer and continued with her perfect day. "Perfect day - something that's more up my alley." She didn't let that get her down and still had her good mood and was now smiling broadly again. "I don't think I need anything special for a perfect day. Waking up in the morning well-rested and already having this great feeling that the day can only be good. I would spend the day with people or a person that is important to me. No negative thoughts only the positive. Laughing and having fun together. Doing something together and making unforgettable memories and ending the evening together and laying in a meadow on a clear night, looking up at the sky and talking about all kinds of topics." As Haley spoke you could see in her eyes how she dreamed about it and got lost in the thought.
She now looked to Simon and added another short part. "And there would have to be music. In everything you do. And in the place where it's most beautiful, the record would have to jump and you'd only ever hear that one moment."

Death and music with @Haley Rose
Sometimes the days and nights ran together for Simon, honestly. With sleeping only about every third night, sometimes longer, and not going out into the sunshine, it just all sort of flowed together. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but he couldn't really relate to a day's time the way others could. It could be a benefit though, as that's how he was able to read so many books or learn so many instruments at his age - he had that extra time where others didn't because of sleeping.
"If I died tonight, what would I tell someone...." that was a rather deep question and honestly not one he was sure he had a good answer to. "I would hope to be able to tell my aunt and my friends thank you for the joy you brought to my life and that if I can, I'll watch over you." And there it came up again. Simon was a rather religious person, as it had been in his upbringing, and he truly believed in God and an afterlife.
"Favorite music is difficult. Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Johnny Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Henry James." Those were some of the jazz greats and ones he listened to most. "I also like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Bobby Darin." If he had to pick absolute favorites, it was probably them.
He went on to tell her how he also enjoyed the American Motown movement like the Four Tops and The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. He enjoyed Elton John and The Beatles. Come on, everyone loved The Beatles. He also enjoyed some of the current music that was out there, favoring more things along the lines of Parov Stelar and Saint Motel sort of sound.

Questions and Answers
Haley knew that the question she had chosen was kind of deep, but she liked these kinds of questions. Where you don't just get to know the surface of a person, but what was deep inside them. She loved to just lie there for hours with a person and talk about God and the world, which is why she wanted at least one question like this in her questionnaire. The last questions @Simon Kincaid
"I would tell all those persons who are in my heart how glad I am to have been part of their lives. That I am infinitely grateful for the moments and memories we shared and even if I am dead then, I will still always be with them. I would tell them not to mourn me for too long - there should be a little crying in there," she smirked at this comment. Even with such serious topics, she could always lighten the mood a bit, "But at some point, things have to move on. I want them to remember me well." It was all very simple, but for her that was exactly the most important thing. That the people in her heart knew how much they were loved by Haley. "I don't want to be forgotten, I guess that's what I would just ask them still." She laughed softly at that comment. That was one of Haley's fears. To just die someday and be forgotten.
Haley didn't know some of the artists Simon mentioned but a few were familiar to her. "I listen to quite a bit mixed. I love a lot of old music but listen to a lot of current." She had a record player in her room at home that she had gotten as a gift from her father and went through the many records they had collected in her mind, "So there would be; Queen, Billy Idol, also the Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana," Haley could have listed an infinite number of artists but she stopped herself so as not to bore Simon further. "But really, I'm open to all kinds of music with a few exceptions."
She put her hands on the piano and started playing Bohemian Rhapsody. This was one of the first songs Haley learned to play when she was ready with her piano skills. This was one of her favorite songs and as she played some more she looked to Simon. "Any other questions we didn't answer with our questionnaire?" she asked him, winking.
