"It looks nice, Wyatt. The style is unique, especially in the way of being able to convey a person through scribbles. I'm not sure I'd be able to do that. You should give yourself more credit."

Wyatt rolled his eyes. “It’s not supposed to be any good, Alec, you don’t have to lie,” he said with a small grin. He’d drawn the girl rather absent-mindedly and thought of it as a funny little scribble sketch. He couldn’t imagine why Alec seemed to like it, even a little. Especially since Alec was a really talented artist.

When Alec tried to hand it back to Wyatt, the Snake didn’t reach for it. “Keep it, I don’t really want it. Then we both have each other’s art.” When he said art, he did quotation mark gestures with his hands. Obviously, he was implying his sketch was the “art”. Alec was gifted, and Wyatt didn’t care about drawing very much. And it showed.

A question popped up in Wyatt’s head. It was something he’d considered before, and never found an answer to. Though he wanted to know the answer more than anything.

“What happened or changed that made you think of me as your friend, rather than your enemy?”

He couldn’t remember anything that made up for the time he kicked Alec until he had to visit the Hospital Wing. Or the countless times he called the Lion silly names, and spat heartless insults. There was no way Wyatt deserved to be friends with someone as genuinely kind as Alec.

Alec smiled as he was told to keep the art. The uniqueness of it was admirable, abstract almost compared to Alec's sketches. It reminded Alec of a period in his art of which he'd gone through, for over ten sketches in a row there was a gated locked up fence somewhere in it. Compared to all his other work in the sketches with clearer lines, there was more of a blend to it. It had been his series of sketches right before attending Hogwarts, actually. Alec put the art away in his trunk, tucking it there gently for safe-keeping before looking up as Wyatt spoke, asking a question.

...

Enemy..? There was a line between who Alec thought was an enemy, and who Alec thought was an idiot that he shouldn't waste his time on. Either way, nevertheless Alec could work with that. The words didn't particularly matter too much. Alec humming slightly in thought, as a practically worthless attempt to keep him focused right now. "You're more human to me, I guess." Alec said, cringing slightly at his own words. "Well, I mean you were human to me but like not in the way of oh you-" Alec then realized he'd began to ramble, with at least two words per a second it was hard to understand his nervous rambling. His face flushing, he looked away.

"I guess I just realized you had actual human emotions?" Alec suggested, now avoiding Wyatt's gaze. "I'm sorry that's sounds terrible, doesn't it?" Alec whispered under his breath, while saying it questioningly not meaning it to be answered. Alec became quiet, slowly he noticed himself start to drift away into his own head again, and messed with his fingers to keep him still and focused. He'd had a lot more trouble with staying focused since the passed few days. Maybe it was just the nervousness of going back to school again? "I still feel bad about everything, the way I treated you, I shouldn't have shoved you, a terrible move on my part, and not only because I have a conscience. Also probably should've gotten someone who actually thinks things through to tell me that, that one prank was a bad idea and it could harm someone." He seemed to stop at his own words, reflecting on them before speaking again. "I feel the worst about locking you out of the house, that was a pretty terrible thing to do, and you definitely didn't deserve that, maybe a strongly worded letter that I'd write to you, only to throw it away before you could it, but it didn't require the means of locking you out of the house."

It was obvious Alec felt guilty about it all, about everything, especially as he avoided Wyatt's gaze. Or even the look on Alec's face. "But-" Alec said, wanting to move on from the topic. "You're easy to talk too, cool, and nice and funny when you want to be. Also, talking to you can be pretty fun. And I'm the idiot Gryffindor who didn't realize that sooner. Like all those bullies," Alec looked up, finally able to gain some control of his facial expressions. Remembering what Wyatt had mentioned before, in a petty and heated argument. " bunch of prats anyway." Alec said matter-of-factly. "Bet they don't have any friends, or at the very least any good ones." Alec liked to think he was an okay friend, Wyatt mentioned he didn't have many. But Alec still liked to be believe Wyatt was brought higher up in those ranks than the bullies. Wyatt didn't bully people, he sort just scared them off with his rumors. Lucky for him, Alec saw right through them and just thought he was a prat, one who had nothing better to do then, try to start up those weird typical Slytherin x Gryffindor rivalries with Alec. Was it weird Alec knew more Slytherin kids than any of other houses, even his own?

"Do you think we ever would've become friends if all this bad stuff didn't happen?" Alec asked eventually. "I could see myself talking to you if we got off on the right start. It'd be and feel really different though." Different in the sense of closeness, maybe respect as well? Alec had the possible feeling they would've had a difference in their mutual respect for each other. They'd gone through things together and had seen terrible sides of them both. It was unstable at the time but it lead to this and Alec really respected him.

"Do yo-" Alec was about to ask yet another mind boggling question when he finally heard his mother calling them. Something along the lines of everybody's name, plus get down here, she also possibly mentioned they were running late, but that one was hard to catch. Maybe she'd said she was running from cake? "Oh, never mind." Alec said let a small smile reach his lips, "I wish us luck to the new school year, we, or at the very least I am going to need it." Alec said, before turning and making a quick check of his trunk and everything in it, journal, extra robes, school supplies, extra necessary pranking items, ect. And finally with that, leaving Wyatt to bring it downstairs, only just before whispering in a competitive yet friendly manner, "I'm going to beat you to the train slow poke." and with that finally leaving the room.
Alec has left the thread.
