"Yeah, she really is," he said quietly. "But I don't know if she'll want to go... Or in any event, maybe she'll want to go but just not with me." They really only had a few conversations. He had more with Paige and even his Second Year friend in Hufflepuff, Alexa Mackenzie. Still, there was something about Haley where they were on similar wavelengths with things and he felt he could confide in her. Certainly she felt the same as he was her secret keeper.

"And if she turns me down, then I'll still go," he said confidently. "One doesn't HAVE to have a date to a dance, after all," he looked over at Paige and took a sip of his hot water. New. He had cold water before and room temperature water but this was the first time he tried to drink hot water. Tasted better than tea and especially better than hot chocolate - at least in his opinion. Honestly, not too shabby.

He looked down to see the steam rise from the drink as the warmth of the top layer of liquid hit the cold air that surrounded them. "Hey, promise me whether you get a date or I get a date or one of us does or neither of us does...that you'll dance a dance with me?"

Simon wondered if Paige had known of the girl. All he mentioned was a redhead and there was a descent amount there in Hogwarts. Hopefully she wasn't thinking he meant Alexa Mackenzie.
