"I've only been to Afghanistan a few times myself, I probably won't go again for another few years since as of now my parents are saving for a trip so that my family may go and visit the mecca!" She said excitedly, though she wasn't sure if that would count has her hajj, that would be something she would have to ask her parent's about on a later date. "My parents had gone once before when I was a baby so I have no memory of it. There are photos though that my mother loves to show guests."

Adlai gave another wide metal lined to Elena as she offered for Flutters to take any letters for her to her home if any school issued owls were unavailable, "Thank you very much, though I'm sure if Flutters will like the extra work." She said.

Adlai then listened to Elena as she spoke of her family, Elena herself had never mentioned them until now. From what she said Adlai could only assume that her younger sister had passed on. Adlai could only imagine what the pain of that must feel like, as she had never experienced the passing of a loved one, let alone a sibling. "I'm so sorry."

"Do bring back some pictures or something if you do go." Elena said, her curiousity tugging at her. It was nice getting an insight into other cultures knowing how they worked and whatnot. She liked that, it showed how some wizard's whole thing of pure-blooded supremacy and all that political hogwash wasn't really that relevant. In certain parts of the world, Elena had a feeling such outrageous concepts would be shot down almost instantly but they were in England and England although enjoyable came with it's own series of troubles and whatnot. "He would love to, any excuse for that owl to get out and about is a day in owl heaven for him." She didn't doubt it, a big bird like her owl could only stay cooped up so long, even Flutteres needed a chance every now and then to stretch his wings.

"Just try not to lose if he comes back with a dead mouse or something, he has this unforunate trend of hunting every chance he gets." Something she was slowly trying to work on via the implementation of owl treats into his diet but so far, she hadn't seen any significant progress. He had deposited a dead snake at her window frame once, boy, what a day that had been. She had elected not to inquire as to how a owl had managed to overpower a full adult snake but thankfully since then, he hadn't repeated that particular incident but one could never be too careful. "It's been a couple of years now, I'm used to it now, I suppose, I keep a little photo album just to look back on the memories."

A true sibling she had been though it seemed the Jangleton family had deemed her unfit and they had all seen what the after-result of that had been. "Sorry, didn't mean to darken the mood." The Gryffindor girl said chuckling nervously. It had been in-the-moment sort of thing but sometimes, it felt good. She felt comfortable around Adlai, someone she could connect with and Elena was sure this would not be the first time the Hufflepuff would be witness to some of her more personal secrets. After her little Chamber of Secrets debacle, it only seemed fair in a sense. A one for deal.

Adlai nodded to Elena when she inquired that she bring back some of the photographs from home. Though she had some in her dorm, she was sure Elena would like to pictures of when Adlai was much younger and pictures of her extended family rather than frequent photos which was taken within the last two or so years.

"Well I would expect that, hunting is a natural instinct for them after all. How else would they eat?"
Although Adlai was NOT a fan of any dead creature she knew the owls couldn't help it. Aside from the cats that resided in the school who would help with pest control? It was a horrible thought though.

Adlai then listened as Elena went on to explain that she kept a small photo book with images of her younger sister and then as she went on to apologize for "darkening the mood."
Adlai shook her head and placed a gentle hand on Elena's forearm as she looked at her with a gentle gaze, "You have nothing to apologize for, Elena. I know it must be hard for you to carry such grief, and it's good to let it out every once and awhile. I am always here to listen, that is what I'm here for. I am your friend after all."

She had a point, the Gryffindor supposed agreeing with Adlai a bit. Owls were after all not your average, domesticated bird and hunting was just something that came to them naturally. Still, she would prefer if it the bird stopped feasting on dead mice and whatnot every now and then. She had a habit of bringing it back to proudly display her achievment to Elena, something she was not exactly fond of and nor would anyone else would be in the unforunate vicinity at the time. It tended to make for some interesting reactions at times however and sometimes Elena wondered if Flutters did just to get a rise out of her to to see how others reacted. She would not doubt it, that bird had a mind of it's own as far as she was concerned. Whether that was a good thing or not was still very much up for debate, a chuckle escaping her lips. "True, true. Owl treats can only do so much."

Adlai's hand found her arm and Elena smiled apprectivaely at her blinking away a few tears. Was she crying? Merlin, she should have realized. Wiping them off with the sleeve of her robe, she patted Adlai's hand nodded. "Thanks. I just haven't had anyone who's listened. You're the first person, it means a lot coming from you." Elena could not think of a truer statement she had said today. Out of all the people she had met and interacted with, Adlai was probably the only one the Gryffindor student would trust with her personal affairs. Granted, the girl had actually never opened like this, it hadn't been planned, it just all came spewing out but relieved at the fact the Hufflepuff was lending an ear at the very least.

"I have you though. You're like the second-best thing to a sister so I think I'll settle for that." She said smiling ruefully. It was nice in a sense, it was like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders, she still carried that dark cloud over her head reminding her of that tragic event but at least she knew she had people who had her back. "Look at me being a crybaby and everything. Not befitting for a Gryffindor." An attempt at a joke, hopefully it would brighten the mood a bit as the brown-haired female produced a half-laugh or at least an attempt at one.

She was happy that Elena considered her a sister, but she could see that it still ate at Elena, the bottled up grief. "I'll be whatever you want me to be." And she would, if a sister is what Elena wanted then Adlai would become that, if a bird is what Elena wanted then Adlai would attempt to fly, Adlai would bend over backwards for those she considers friends and Elena is one of the best of the them.

Adlai gave Elena a pained smile as she tried to laugh off the topic. Giving Elena's arm a small squeeze, almost as a warning, Adlai pulled her into a hug.
Adlai knew that she would not, could not be the one to pull away first. She would wait for Elena, for when she is ready to let go.

"It's ok Elena." Was all she said, as those three words meant many things. They meant that Elena was in a safe space, that she could cry without judgement, that she could express her self, and that Adlai wouldn't leave. She would stay just as Elena had when they had gone down the Chamber together.

Adlai wanted nothing more than for Elena to be happy, she wanted Elena to feel peace. She knew that, that was also probably what her sister wanted for her. Elena deserved that much, at least in Adlai's eyes.

"Anything, huh?" She said in a teary-eyed chuckle. Elena had to admit, it was a pretty funny imagery but also nice. It was something about Adlai, she couldn't really place it. There were just those people who just happened to be so full of joy, so outgoing, so warm that it seemed like nothing, no matter what it was could break that layer of comfort, that layer of niceness that coated them. Maybe that was it, maybe that was a Hufflepuff's true nature. The ability to love, she had never really gotten what set the house of the badgers apart from the nerds, the geeks and the heros but now it was becoming more and more apparent by the day. Their politeness, their people-friendly skills which were so extreme, it was in this moment the Gryffindor realized that perhaps a Hufflepuff was the most powerful friend you ask for in someone. That past still haunted her, broke her down. Poor, poor, Viv, she had been so young and yet she had not even lived to enjoy the freedom she experienced here.

The girl found herself pulled forward and she did not object to it as the girl embraced her friend tightly closing her eyes for a brief moment. That screaming, those pleas for helps echoing in her head as Elena just stood there trying to find some solace, some comfort with her friend. Pupils drifted open again when Elena came to the surprising and sudden realization that fresh, new tears had been running down her cheeks, the somewhat audible sounds of sobbing that even caused a few owls up top to poke their heads out curious to see what the source of all this noise was. A good two minutes passed as Elena just kept her arms wrapped around Adlai not even trying to attempt the tears and cries that echoed from her hoarse voice. "I m-miss..her! S-so much!"

She mangaged to get the sentence out between shuddering breaths trying to get a hold of herself. Finally after what seemed like an eternity, Elena let her go inhaling deeply taking in a mouthful of air as she stepped back raising an hand to wipe any moisture that had gathered on her cheeks. Dark pupils shifted to meet Adlais, a grateful smile forming on her lips. "Hey, Adlai? Thank you, i had to get that out. It means a lot." Perhaps there was still hope, there was still people who cared. She did not have to suffer alone. Curious owl eyes from above tilted their head in curiosity watching the exchange. In truth, really the owls were more interested not in what was occuring but what was about to happen. The Gryffindor girl had stepped back but her feet were dangerously close to the edge, an mis-step and she would be free-falling from the tower. A hoot sounded from one of them, almost as if it was trying to warn them but that would be all the warning they got, that is if they managed to understand what the owl was trying to convey.

The same pained smile from moments ago stayed glued to Adlai's face. "It's no problem at all, Elena." She meant what she had said, Elena did not deserve to bottle up her emotions and allow them to steer inside her. Adlai could never imagine why someone would dismiss another's emotions, especially when they were in such anguish.

It was after a rush of wind entered the tower that Adlai did speak again, "Perhaps we should go now, yes?" it was beginning to get late and as much as Adlai dreaded to admit it she was starting to get hungry since supper was right around the corner. Though if Elena wanted to talk more she would stay, she would stay as long as Elena wished her too.

With another rush of wind Adlai rubbed her arms. Though she wore many layers of clothing on a day to day basis she easily became cold, she thought it odd, but then again from her knowledge low blood iron did run in the family which went onto explain why her father and grandfather, on her fathers side, wore sweaters and coats of all kinds during the summer. They did look ridiculous but one must do what ever one must do to keep warm she thought.

She nodded as the question broke through her haze of depression and darkness. She did not want to incovenice her friend any longer and plus, Elena reckoned that the prospect of getting watched by a bunch of feathery creatures who looked like they were plotting your death with every passing second was not one that she entertained in the slightest. "Y-yeah..that would be good." She said sniffling a bit tugging her robes tighter around her so that the cold gusts of winds that rushed up into the tower from time to time didn't leave them looking like human-sized ice cubes. Seriously, Elena didn't know what it was with this tower and that was it really. It was only this one that when you came up here, aside from the omnious lonely feeling that people generally felt, the breezes of wind that flew through from time to time made you want to high-tail it out of here once you had conducted in your buisness which in their case had been comfort her crying self.

And then, chaos.

A whole lot of things went wrong at once.

Maybe she really ought to have listened to that stupid owl. Sometimes, they really meant well despite their peculiar habits.

Elena turned taking a step forward to where she presumed the steps to be but it seemed that the Gryffindor girl was mistaken. This turned out to be a miscalucation on her parth that would cost her dearly, dark eyes widening as her foot dropped down into the thin air as her entire body weight teetered over as she felt herself began slip forward free-falling, arms flailing as the hard cement ground began to get closer and closer as her other foot left the stable ground of the Owlery floor so many stories up. A fall from this height would mean a whole lot more than some broken bones. She had just gotten by when taking her tumble down the staircase, a fall from the tower however was a lot more traumatic. "ADLAI!!" The Jangleton girl screamed out stricken by a mixture of terror and shock of what was happening as her arms flailed forward reaching out for something to grab onto. anything. Something that could support her weight.

A shrill hoot sounded from somewhere above as Flutters who had disappeared inside the Owlery came diving out, his wings flapping at the call of his owner's plea for help. However, the small bird could do nothing watching as the girl continued to topple over and if Adlai didn't act soon, Elena Jangleton would in the span of a few seconds be free-falling through the air. The owl landed at Adlai's feet prodding her shoes with his beak as if urging her to do something. "HELP!!" The voice echoed off the damp walls of the tower and bouncing down the stairs. Her luck really was cursed and it had to be this blasted tower too. The last time she had been up here, it was a sprained leg and now the Gryffindor reckoned it was about to be something a whole lot worse. The staircase had been there, she swore it was unless in her mess of emotions, the girl hadn't been paying attention to her footing.

Yeah, that was probably it and she was paying for it dearly.

Once Elena had nodded Adlai gave her one last smile before turning and beginning to make her way down the stairs. To her, today had been good in an odd way. She thought that in a way she had helped Elena, or at least she hoped so. She worried that perhaps she had pushed her boundaries with her friend a few minutes ago. Though she also thought that if she had Elena would surely tell her, right?

Nonetheless, making her way down the spiraling stair case of the owlrey within seconds she heard her name being called out in horror. Her head immediately jerked up as she felt the tugging of her shoe laces.
It was then she saw Elena beginning to drift off into the frigid air. Elena had mentioned that she had fallen down the stairs of this tower before, thus Adlai would have thought that Elena would use more precaution when going up and down the stairs, but Adlai did not blame her, she had been crying for quite a while and after so many tears one does feel weak.

"HELP!" her dear friend cried. After being in a few moments prolonged inner panic Adlai swiftly lunged up the stairs towards Elena, her hand outstretched. Grabbing Elenas wrist Adlai, with the limited strength she has, pulled her towards her.

A wave of desperation overtook her as fear-struck eyes locked with Adlais who was promptly retracing her steps. Would she reach her in time? Elena just happened to be slipping more and more and the ground seemed to be getting closer. It was all because of a stupid mistake. Caught up in her own affairs, the girl hadn't even bothered to think they were standing within one of the narrowes towers Hogwarts had to offer. Not to mention, the lack of railings was what winded up with situations like hers. She wasn't sure if anyone had fallen to their demise from here now but right now, her Hufflepuff friend was the only that could prevent the Gryffindor from being plastered across the headline of the Daily Prophet as the sole student who fell to their death because she wasn't minding her step. Somehow, it was not how she wanted to go out and the girl absolutely refused, the very prospect horrifying her.

Hands thrusting outwards, she felt her friend's fingers close around her wrist and heaved with all her might. "T-Thank Merlin!" The brunette let out a shuddering gasp as she teetered back onto stable ground taking a moment to recollect her breath shooting a glance down at the omnious hard stone walkways below. That would not have been a very pretty landing as she shuffled as far as away from the edge as she could do. Flutters, who had flown down after hearing his owner's plea for help satisfied that no harm was to come to her tilted his head in Adlai's way hooting at her in a sort of thankful manner before his wings carried him off again back into the nesting area high up in the owlery where a lot of curious, bold, blinking yellow eyes had been watching the scene unfold with relative interest.

"That was too close of a call. T-thank you." Elena offered weakly looking up at Adlai as she scrambled to her feet smoothing out the front of her robes. A few scratches maybe but for the most part, she was in one piece and that was all that mattered. "You literally saved my life." No beating around the bush, the words could not been any more honest. If the situation had been any different, the girl would most likely be smack dab flat against the hard concrete below, there wasn't even any soft grassy patches to cushion a fall from this height. This only served to convince her that as the Hufflepuff had said earlier, they had better get off this tower quickly and preferable without taking another tumble. This Owlery had already tried to off her two times and so far, she was still standing. She didn't believe in third chances, might as well not push those limits. "Yeah, think we should get down from here while we still can." Eyeing the stairsteps that descended downwards as she proceeded to make her way to them. The feeling of being on stable ground would be a glorious one.
