A talk in the snow
Haley's last class just ended and she made her way directly to the common room. Once there, she said goodbye to her friends, with whom she had just shared class, and went up the stony stairs to her dorm room. She threw her bag on her bed and went to her suitcase. She had been back at Hogwarts for a few days, yet she still hadn't gotten around to clearing out all of her things. She rummaged out a thick soft sweater and a pair of black jeans and quickly changed. She quickly grabbed her gray scarf on her way out and scurried through the common room, passing through the portrait and taking a quick step down the stairs in the castle until she came to the large front door.Looking out for @Simon Kincaid
As soon as she took the first step outside, the cold wind blew in her face and a few snowflakes got lost in Haley's hair. Even though Haley loved summer, she also liked winter. Especially winter here at Hogwarts. Snow still lay over here, making the castle and the whole grounds look even more magical. She took a few steps into the courtyard and looked for a tall boy with black hair. Haley didn't have to search long before she found Simon and made her way directly to him. He was sitting in one of the arches of the wall and had not seen her yet. She walked through the corridor to the arch where Simon was sitting, so that he could not see her. Once there, she quietly walked up to him and covered his eyes with her hands from behind. She leaned slightly to the right over his shoulder,"Hello handsome, are you waiting for someone?"
Haley took her hands away from his eyes again and started laughing. She knew Simon knew her humor by now. She thought about aksing if he did miss her but she decided not to do so. Even though she had to admit that she was incredibly happy to see him again, she still wouldn't want to admit to herself that she had missed him from time to time over the past few days. But who could blame her, in her free time she thought about the ball and which colors they could wear and in the same course she had to think about their dance in the corridor.

A talk in the snow
Glad to see @Haley Rose
He was there in the archway to help shield himself from the sun. Although there was a thick cloud cover that particular afternoon, still being outdoors would make his skin hurt eventually but she had wanted to meet in the Courtyard and who was he to deny Haley Rose that, much less anything? He was almost to the point where this girl could ask anything of him and he would give it to her unconditionally. Do her homework assignments all year? Sure. Gather 10 galleons just for her? Here you go, Hales! Murder his best friend? Eh... well, he'd at least consider it!
Simon smiled at her words. He knew the voice but just her calling him handsome was enough to make him feel a little bit bashful which hardly EVER happened to him. "I am waiting on someone. Someone quite special. She was to meet me here in the Courtyard this very afternoon," and he leaned over to the left to look out into the distance and then did the same, leaning to the right. But then his eyes came right directly to hers and he smiled even wider. "Oh, there you are." Not that he could ever actually miss her. He always seemed to pick her out in the crowd almost instantly at The Great Hall or in the corridors between classes.
"It's good to see you again," he began. That was the problem with school - the education. It got in the way of some friendships. Here he was, wanting to see her more than anyone in the castle but it had been days since their last encounter. No matter. Where there was a will there was a way and they were proving that. "Do you come bearing super important information?"

A talk in the snow
Haley smiled at Simon's words and watched him closely as he looked left and right. When his eyes met hers, she started to laugh. How could it be that someone could share so much in common with someone else and yet be so different? She especially liked the moments when she could share the same humor with other people. She braced herself with her hands on the wall and jumped up with a short hop and landed on her butt. She swung her right leg over the wall and leaned against one side of the arch, looking up at Simon and smiling at him. "I'm glad to see you again, too."long story short @Simon Kincaid
Haley especially enjoyed the free moments, knowing that now that school was starting up again, there wasn't much time for free time and friends. But she wouldn't waste a thought on that, because this time was too precious to her. She leaned forward slightly and propped herself up lightly on her hands, with a look that showed she was about to tell something very important.
"In fact, I have super important information," Haley began talking and smirking. She leaned back slightly again as she continued, "You know, there's this guy." She stopped again for a moment and looked around a little dreamily, "I don't know if you know him, but I really like him a lot." Haley formed a wide smile with her lips as she continued to speak. "Well yes and now the thing is, he asked me to be his date for a ball and with the most important task on top of that," she now looked at him all serious and threw her arms in the air and now said a little louder "I get to pick out the colors for our outfit." She now looked at him with wide eyes and dropped her hands on her thighs and started laughing.
"But because I'm very honored and also take this situation very seriously," she winked at him, "I've been extensively involved with the selection." Haley told this as if she hadn't slept in the last two days to deal with it, which of course wasn't the case but she was having fun joking around a bit.
"Okay, fun aside." She now said seriously to Simon again but quickly started to smile again. "Even though green is actually one of my favorite color- no not neon green - of course I don't want to go against the theme of this party." She giggled before continuing, "As a Gryffindor, I should be totally thrilled that red is going to be one of the colors but we both know that I'm not someone who necessarily has to wear my own house colors." Haley was proud to be a Gryffindor, but she was never of the opinion that only the house makes you, she was always of the opinion that a person is made of much much more than this affiliation. "But I still think red is pretty." She laughed now, after all she had been talking all the time about not necessarily wearing red, but had now decided to do so. "But not a classic red, do you think a wine red would be okay too?"
She looked intently at Simon, not wanting to imagine how insane that line of thinking must have come across to a boy. Haley was sure that it sounded like she had been thinking about nothing else for 3 days and nights, but that wasn't the case. In fact, she had been able to decide super quickly for a color but she was sure that Simon would not think anything wrong of Haley despite this situation and did not worry further about whether it all came across too strange.

A talk in the snow
Fresh air and conversation with @Haley Rose
He listened intently as Haley talked about this guy and this date and the super important task that was assigned to her. He nodded, as if he was pretending to follow her and this was a conversation entirely new to him but he too smiled as she came to the end of the statement.
Wine red. "Like, dark red? Blood red?" And he paused a moment. Something about saying the word 'blood' out loud just gave him this odd sort of sensation and he wasn't sure why. His teeth, that had caused him pain towards the beginning of the school year hurt again, a pain at his gums. He really should have mentioned that to his aunt and seen a dentist over the holiday break. Was he now going to have to wait until Summer?
It was odd and the fact that he had such a slight distraction there with Haley present made it all the more peculiar, as that girl almost always had his undivided attention ever since that very first day he met her in the library.
"I think dark red would be most elegant," he said, getting back to moment. His eyes drifted to that of her hair with the few fallen snowflakes and he smiled. Despite her being a redhead already, he could see it compliment the darker richness of a wine red. "I think you and I could perhaps be two of the best looking people there. I mean, come on...look at us," he teased.
Now Haley...she was beautiful. No, beautiful wasn't even the word. She was stunning and it didn't matter if she went in black jeans and a sweater like she had on now, she would be one of the best looking people in attendance. He truly wasn't that conceited, nor did he care if he was the best dressed. What he did care about though was putting the effort into this, giving it and all he tried to do his 100 percent, and make this a memorable evening for both he and Haley.
He smiled to Haley and drew in a deep breath, taking in the fresh air that he just didn't get enough of. Especially with curfew at Hogwarts being so early, he rarely got outside to experience it. Simon then came and hoisted himself up on that same ledge, liking that it was further under the archway and offered some additional protection from the sun.

A talk in the snow
lost in thoughts @Simon Kincaid
Haley listened intently to Simon and quickly answered his counter question, "Yes exactly, a dark red." She thought for a moment, "Blood red might also describe it." She smiled at him as she continued to listen to his words and her eyes traveled from his black hair along his striking features. She shook her head ever so slightly to refocus her thoughts on his words and not his appearance, which was truly descriptive.
Haley's lips formed into a big smile as Simon agreed with her color suggestion. She laughed at his comment "Simon, I was thinking exactly the same." Haley winked as her gaze went up and down him. "At least I'll do my best." She knew Simon wouldn't have to try hard for that. He was naturally handsome and she could hardly imagine how good he would look in a suit but the thought made her smile even bigger.
Haley was incredibly looking forward to the evening together, even though it would take some time her thoughts kept circling around the ball since the moment Simon asked her. "And I thought gold would be nice as an accent. Or what do you think? A little gold jewelry certainly wouldn't go amiss."
Her gaze wandered to the grounds and all the snow, by now the clouds had closed in even more and it was getting very dark, but that didn't bother Haley. Lost in thought she whispered to herself "I haven't had a snowball fight at all this year." This thought seemed unimportant to her at the same moment, but she had just remembered that she and her cousins had simply forgotten to have their annual snowball fight over Christmas.

A talk in the snow
And the snowballs begin to fly with @Haley Rose
"And not to mention there's this ring that I'll be sure to wear," he said as he lifted his hand to emphasize her family's heirloom. He had worn it every single day since she had given it to him and the night of the P.U.R.E. club's dance would be no exception.
He looked out to the snow on the grounds. Just before the holidays he had a snowball fight over more towards the path that led to the Great Lake with Paige Chase. A bet had been placed down and the loser had to buy the other lunch. He had lost and settled on dinner, meeting her towards her home where they had dinner and went ice skating. It was where Paige had professed her feelings for him and the first thing to pop into his mind upon her mention was Haley Rose. That's when he knew there was something there.
"Everyone needs a snowball fight now and then. I'm pretty sure that's essential in the key for happiness," he smiled and drew up the hood on the back of his sweatshirt, just for extra protection. The last thing he wanted was to end this time with Haley early because his face was getting burned. He hadn't risked being outdoors too often, but this was would be well worth it.
He hopped off the edge and then placed his hand on her hips, helping her down as well. It was that strength that Simon never thought twice about. "You'll have to go easy on me. I'm not very good with them," and that was truth.
Simon stepped out onto the grounds and leaned down to take some snow in his hands, gently packing it into a loose snowball. The last thing he wanted was to pelt her with hard ice. "I hope you're quick..." he said, and lobbed the snowball in her direction.

Looking at Simon's hand as he showed her the ring, her expression filled with happiness. She had never taken off her ring since she got it and was incredibly happy that Simon was wearing his as well. She also raised her hand and showed her ring. No matter what day it was, she wouldn't take it off, not even for the ball, and she was pleased that Simon would wear his too.let the games begin @Simon Kincaid
Haley was confused for a moment, she was not aware that Simon had heard her whisper but quickly she started to smile. Even though Haley was dressed so thickly, her skin tingled again under her clothes as Simon took her by the waist and helped her get off the wall. She placed her hands on his shoulder to get a better grip and started laughing. "huh, um, thanks!" Only now did she notice again how big and strong Simon was for his age, she was sure he could easily tell he was two years older and no one would question it further.
"Oh boy, I don't know if I can do that." Laughed Haley as she formed the first snowball in her hands. She placed the first ball on the ground and quickly made the next one as she tried to respond to Simon's words, "That better be y.." but before she could finish speaking the first ball hit her in the shoulder.
She now took her two snowballs each in one hand and began to look playfully angry. She quickly turned around and caught her target with her gaze. "That was a mistake." She now called out to Simon and lashed out with her right arm as she ran at him and threw the first ball at him. Immediately after she took the second ball in her right hand and threw it.

The badger and the lion @Haley Rose
Snowball fights. While not skilled in them, he was a natural due to his speed and quick reflexes. Of course this was all from his dphamir qualities that he didn't even realize existed within him.
Simon was able to dodge the first snowball with no bit of difficulty but he was busy taking snow in his hands and forming his next snowball that he was hit by hes and he laughed. He wasn't cold in the slightest but the cold never really seemed to affect him much anyway.
"Another trick like that, Haley Rose, and you might have more than a snowball fight on your hands," he said, tossing one over to her but missing. "You might have a snowball WAR." He emphasized the last word.
Ah, talk of war. Not YET a declaration of war. ...But close.
Simon then did her strategy and tried to pause for a moment and instead of throwing them at her, began to make some and leave them nearby in the snow while he made more. Ammunition at the ready. He wondered as he packed the snow if there was a charm that would produce these at will. He had heard of some of the students talk about things like the umbrella charm so why wouldn't there be a snowball charm? Who made up these charms and how did they find out if they worked or not? That was something else to add to his list of things to figure out about the wizarding world.
Simon's mind was always thinking about something and his curious nature would have made him fit for a Ravenclaw, although he wasn't sure his intelligence would match. Hufflepuff was the perfect call for him though - even if he was about to be a badger at war. Maybe. Maybe it would stay simple. That was left to the lioness with him.

A talk in the snow
Haley looked surprised when Simon wiped out her first throw without difficulty. How was that possible, she was sure that it should have hit. But before she could think about it further, her second throw was a success and she started to laugh, while at the same time she started to form several snowballs with her hands and gather them around her. The cold burned her hands, but she didn't let that stop her. In such situations, she had to grit her teeth and keep going.the lion wants to win @Simon Kincaid
She laughed at Simon's remarks. "Oh, are you trying to threaten me, Kincaid? Try me!" she laughed again and threw her first ball in his direction as she just successfully wiped out his throw. She grinned mischievously at him and took the next ball in her hand and threw again. But this time she missed Simon so badly that he didn't even have to dodge it. Laughing at herself, she took the last snowball in her hand and ran into the shelter of a tree.
She knew this wasn't the best protection, but she hoped it would buy her some time. She knelt on the ground and immediately felt the cold coming through her jeans, but ignored the uncomfortable feeling. She began to form more and more snowballs to be ready for the big battle. Badger against lion and she as a lion would not accept defeat.
She had now accumulated enough snowballs and carefully looked past the tree to set her sights on her target again but Simon was no longer standing where he had been a few seconds ago. Her eyes wandered over the terrain in search of Simon.

A talk in the snow
Tackling @Haley Rose
He saw her hurry behind the tree and shook his head. Oh, Haley, Haley, Haley. From watching horror movies, there were certain things that one shouldn't do in certain situations like an attack. One didn't go upstairs and they didn't go in the basement. When out in the open like this, one didn't go behind the tree.
Simon smiled and did his best to slowly stride through the snow, allowing his shoes to sort of glide in the snow rather than crunch on top of it. Luckily, with the wide landscape that surrounded them, the whistling of the wind that had picked up was his friend and helped to also shield the noise so that when she looked up and scanned around for him, she wasn't seeing him. That was because he was right behind her.
He didn't have any snowball with him, instead he just brought his arms around her and tackled her down (gently) into the snow. "Sabotage!!!!" he shouted, knowing that this wasn't exactly a snowball fight now with his actions but it was still playing in the snow.
Besides, she had more experience obviously with snowball fights and maybe this was a way he didn't have to admit defeat.
"I'm tellin' y'all it's a sabotage," he said again, quoting a music group he liked and their song titled Sabotage but he wasn't sure if Haley was familiar with The Beastie Boys.
