Heavy footsteps walked down the hall as Hugh made his way through the Beckett Manor. His eyes looking from side to side, he was impressed by the decadency of the place. His arms folded behind his back, he tried keeping his back straightened. Perhaps it made him seem a bit more used to these types of events. Not that he was, not in the slightest. This entire parade felt as foreign to him as the wizarding world did when he first came to Hogwarts. Nodding to the few people he passed before entering the main hall, he'd plaster a fake smile to his face as he knew would be required for an event such as this.

Eventually the doors opened, an announcer stepped closer. Bending over and lowering his head he heard them ask for his name and title. An odd look sparked from the part-giant's eyes, his eyelids closing in to see if the man was actually serious for a second. Of course, he was. After whispering his reply to their ear, Hugh turned to descent and throw themselves into the crowd. He had no idea what was meant to happen today, he did know he was better off sticking to the sides of this event. People would likely notice his difference to the others. Especially if the =y found out his age or lineage. Did Ana tell any of them anything or would they find out on their own. Hugh would grow more nervous with each step he took.

"Young sir Hugh Lowe, Son of Lord Lowe and... Gida..." There was no last name nor title for that last name uttered. Hugh had to suppress a smirk growing on his lips as he noticed several faces amongst the crowd to notice the solitary first name in the lines uttered by the announcer. Eyes staring at the boy that was taller than likely every adult in the room, Hugh knew his first priority would be to find some place off to the side before inspecting the event further.

So, the rather posh-looking couple - Lord Aden and Lady Fulton - were Scarlett's family. "You never told me your parents were aristocratic," Lucia said, then looked over at the grown-ups again. "Mind you though, I don't blame you. They don't... suit you." The part-Veela looked back to her friend, skirt swishing around her ankles. "You're... you... And they're... them." She blushed at the terrible phrasing. "Sorry."

"I know... She's only a year older than us for Merlin's sake!" Lucia managed to slip in, before Scarlett carried on.

Lucia smiled. "Come on, we should dance or something so we don't look like loners." Scarlett probably didn't care what everyone else thought of her, but Lucia most definitely did, so the raven-haired girl moved further into the centre of the room [if Scarlett allows her] and took her friends arms, begining a simple foxtrot. Back, back, side together - or, at least, Lucia hoped it was and she hadn't just remembered everything completely wrongly. "Follow my lead," she said, suddenly remembering that Scarlett probably didn't know how to dance the foxtrot. "Forwards, forwards, then sideways, then feet together." Her own feet moved gracefully and lightly to the rhythm of the music. It was quite ironic, really, for Lucia to be dancing the foxtrot at the Beckett New Year's Gala - after all, it was Anastasia who had taught Lucia the dance.

[font=Century Gothic]Despite herself, Sarah found that she was fascinated by those swaying and dancing on the ballroom floor. It wasn’t all that surprising considering the girl’s love of dancing. Ever since she was tiny, barely able to talk, she knew she wanted to dance. Her mother had always claimed she could twirl and spin before she could walk, and though Sarah knew it to be a vast exaggeration, she liked to think it true. There was just something within her that knew she would always be drawn to the art.

Which was why she was so happy to watch as couples moved in perfect sync and children spun with unbridled joy to the pretty music which filled the hall. Even she could admit that she enjoyed the sight. Sure, she may not be thrilled to be here, but the dancing had her content. At the very least, she’d managed to escape from her father, already eaten far too many chocolate truffles, and was able to watch the other guests move.

Of course, this came with new grievances. At the realisation that the dancing was somewhat of a comfort, it also made her aware that she was currently sat at an empty table, alone, and most certainly not dancing. She let out a loud sigh as she slumped further back into the chair she was sat on. She found herself picturing herself on the dancefloor, dancing with a nondescript partner whom she didn’t know. The partner wouldn’t matter, not really. Even if one’s partner is barely tolerable, she thought with an inward smirk, Elizabeth Bennet’s words flashing before her eyes. She was certain she could dance with anyone and she would still feel the same happiness she always did when she let her body move in time with music. “Why Miss Lightwood, would you like to dance?” Sarah muttered to herself, lowering her voice as she mimicked the unknown stranger whom a part of her wished would appear. “But of course, I would,” She replied, in a voice sweeter than her own, "It would be my greatest honour to oblige."

Her little charade caused a light laugh to pass her lips and Sarah found herself more amused than the poor joke was perhaps due. It was perhaps a testament to how much she thought she might loathe the evening, never having considered she’d actually find herself laughing. Even if it was at herself. She’d take what she could get after all.

Succumbing to the fact that she likely wouldn’t have a tall dark stranger come and sweep her off of her feet, she let out a final chuckle – this one considerably more humourless than before – and reached for another chocolate. She knew she’d regret the sheer about of sweets she’d eaten by tomorrow, not usually one with an overly sweet tooth, but found the food comforting and knew she’d likely not stop until something else caught her attention. Seemingly as soon as the thought appeared, something did in fact catch her attention. She’d been casually glancing up towards the top of the staircase when each new family arrived. The vast majority had been inconsequential. She recognised a few of the younger guests as students from her school, even noting a few Slytherin’s from her dormitory. There were also a few faces she recognised from the many lavish banquets and parties her father always insisted on hosting – many of them equally as obnoxious as she found her father. But with the arrival of a boy she did not know, she found herself mildly fascinated.

She watched as the tall boy descended the stairs, noting that tall seemed like a huge understatement. She’d never seen him before tonight and had no idea of who he was. The announcement of his arrival gave her few hints towards who he was. She raised a curious brow, interest only growing when she realised a single name was all that would be given in reference to the woman. It was uncommon for people not to offer as many names and titles as possible at these sorts of events. Pure-bloods were notorious for rubbing their prestige in other people’s noses and so a litany of names were often the start of any introduction.

From her seat off to the side of the ballroom, she watched the family closely. A part of her, a very large part which she often struggled to control, always wanted to know everything. She was curious by nature, always had been, something which more than occasionally got her into trouble. Her father always scolded her for sticking her nose in other people’s business. She though the sentiment wildly hypocritical of the man.

Still, this large part of her wanted to approach the boy, find out who he was. Something about him seemed different to many of the people in attendance, and it wasn’t just his height which no doubt made him stand out everywhere he went. Sarah thought it perhaps that he didn’t entirely appear to be pleased that he was here. Perhaps he’d been forced like her. Or maybe he just disliked social functions. She longed to find out what it was but thought it maybe too socially unconventional to walk halfway across the ballroom purely to speak to a stranger. She supposed her curiosity might just have to remain. She didn’t like the thought but knew it likely. Perhaps another chocolate might help?

Katie lightly smiled, plastering an intrigued look onto her face as she listened. “Hi—” Katie started, before abruptly stopping. Maybe the girl Katie had chosen to talk to want as suck up and snooty of a pure blood as Katie had initially anticipated? “Lady Lindsey Florence Evanthe Springhall of York, it is a pleasure to meet you." Katie said, in proper pure-blood decorum to stay on the safe side of things while surrounded by people like her parents and her parents. She didn't like having to act this formal, stick up, pretentious, and snooty, but Katie knew it would be worth it in the end. The lecture that would follow if Katie publicly embarrassed herself would be the absolute worst. “I am Katie Palsorette, heir to the Palsorette family." Katie said, before shifting to a slightly less formal tone now that basic introductions had been successfully made, but still remained proper like any good pure-blood heir knew how to. “Do you go to Hogwarts?" Katie inquired curiously. Katie hadn't remembered seeing Lindsey Springhall before in the hallways, but it was entirely possible that they had simply missed each other in passing or something. After all, Katie was a first year Slytherin, and if Lindsey Springhall was in a different year it a different house, or even both a different year and a different house, it wouldn't be s o far fetched to imagine that Katie hasn't noticed her before.

Not long after Cash and their mother entering the Beckett's Ballroom, a familiar curly haired boy entered the room. He walked in accompany by his parents. Cash smirked to themselves. Alec seems out of his element in this particular settings. Cash took a small sip from their beverage and scanned their green eyes around the room.

Cash then heard Charles addressing them. They try to not grimaced at their first name. "Cash would do just fine"They inform Charles. "When I introduce myself to you as Phoenix, I though I never see you again so that why I choose that name"Cash added. Then the green eyes remembered something.

"Back when we first met at Leaky Cauldron, you said you are a Wizard-Born, are you not?"Cash inquired the Russian. Being lied to is something Cash did not particular fond of but maybe Charles had his own reason for his lies. The purple haired caught a glimpse that Charles also been arranged to marry someone by his parents.

"What is wrong with our parents? First my parents arranged me to marry this lad,"Cash eyes searching where Alec stood amongst the guest. "And now you too"They sighed. "It looks like our parents did not believe that we will find our mate one day"Cash stated, irritated with the fact.

When Charles set his eyes towards Alec, Cash followed his view. "Ahh, well that is my fiancé you both talking about. His name is Alec. Alec Mason"Cash addressed the group and they gulped down the bile that about to rise from their throat. They shake their head, they can not believe their parents do such things as betrothed their only daughter to someone else's kid at the age of twelve.

Cash then glances toward their mother who glances towards the Masons'. The green eyes shook their head no as a sign of refusal. Their mother glared at them from the distance and Cash throw their infamous smirk that often time made their mother annoyed with them. It seems Katherine and Charles know each other and both of them spoke in Russian.

Cash hoped they know a bit of Russian but maybe one day Kath can teach them how. When Katherine throw a sincere sentiment toward Charles, Cash rose one of their eyebrow. "I did not know Katherine Labrouder has a heart"They teased the young Lioness. It is so peculiarly odd to see someone like Katherine can be gentle and heartfelt towards someone else.

Katherine then told them, she also got dragged into this event. She compliment the Beater dress. "No thanks to my mother. If it up to me, I prefer wear something that make me comfortable for this shindig"Cash grumbled. "But thanks. Yours is not so bad either"Cash returned the compliment back.

In the middle of the three way conversations, another girl enter the mix. Cash looked at the new incomer. Katherine then introduced the other girl to Cash and vice versa. "I think we met before"They said to both Katherine and Iris. Then their mother about come onto the four youngsters' way.

Determine to dragged Cash toward the Masons'. Cash feel like they need to get away from their mother's grasp. Cash looked at people that not busy with someone else. Then their eyes caught someone. "If you guys need me I will be over there"Cash informed both Charles and Katherine hastily then they made a beeline towards the boy who pulled his phone out.

It seems the boy glancing at something. When Cash stand in front of the boy, they smiled. "Could you maybe help me?"They asked the boy. "I tried to get away from my mother"Cash informed the Asian boy.

"Act like we are in some sort of conversation to make my mother back off of my back. If you can not help me, it is okay; I will look someone else"They uttered while waiting for Kazuo respond to their urgent call for help.

Iris sipped at her drink. It was very sweet, just like her mom made. Charles gave the bartender a weird look, Iris couldn't quite figure out what the look meant though. The drink was great. Kath gave her a weird look too. Though Iris assumed that look was to do with her transformation. The odd look changed to a friendly one and the moment of worry disappeared.

Charles came back with an equally witty comment, "That's for sure," Iris whispered. It was so nice to use her normal tongue. "Also, seems like your Norwegian's improved, you've been practicing?" There was a small part of Iris that was wondering why he'd worked on it. Perhaps... no, ladies never assume.

To Kath, Iris turned with a smile. "Definitely not fluent. I only learned so I could talk without my grandparents understanding." Iris wasn't sure why she was admitting it, but she was now on a roll. The shell that had been working up the past two weeks from her grandparents was quickly falling apart. It was all she could hope that she could keep up the act later when she needed the shell back.

"Nice to meet you Cash," Iris turned to Cash with a pleasant forced smile and with a posh British accented voice, "However, I do believe we met this summer. But nice to meet you nonetheless" It seemed her shell was easy to adopt again. Iris tried to make it clear that she wasn't intentionally being rude, just habit. Or forced reflex as the case may be.

Iris nodded to Charles with a small smile. "I've managed to avoid everyone so far, escaped outside the first opportunity I got. Although I'm sure my grandparents are going to make me pay when we go home. Don't get me started on my grandparents… I've spent all of break suffering the most intense finishing school stuff you could ever believe. Honestly, please save me." Iris unknowingly switched languages.

The ball was turning out to be far, far better than the Christmas one she'd had to attend. But that was a story for another time. Without other people happening to hear.

As expected, the part-giant caught several people looking his way as he passed them by. Giving them no attention himself, his eyes instead scanned the room for any familiar faces. Since he never paid much attention to anyone's bloodline back at Hogwarts, there was no way of knowing for him whom he would likely encounter in this place. Even before he was made aware of his lineage, people like these would have considered him a half-blood. Not that it mattered to him, yet.

His coat billowed behind him as he turned to meet the gaze of another staring pair of eyes. A young girl, though he recognised her from school, there was no memory of her to place her into a house or year. Hugh had stuck to a handful of people in terms of social interaction. And most of them had been people from his own house, that did make it more likely for the girl to not be a Gryffindor. There was a twitch to his look, a sense he was unintentionally giving her. One that would visibly project his desire to not be stared at like that.

He dipped his head in acknowledgment, eyes locking with hers if she did not avert her gaze. "You seem to be alone over there." A deep voice hummed from his chest as a Scottish accent rolled of his tongue. "Not enjoying the party?" His brow was furrowed and bushy, one arched upwards as he waited for the girl to respond. A faint smirk slid across his face, revealing the darker tones of a shaved jaw. Many at school would have known Hugh to be a Quidditch player the year prior. Back then he was sporting his sideburns with pride. With his own lineage revealed to him, a lot of things about his body made more sense. The wild hair and extensive growth, his long limbs and brutish facial features. His face would be a unique mix of a brute and a thirteen-year-old boy.

Charles took a slip from his tea as he nodded toward Cash, of course they lied, before speaking to them in French back " Cash, well I don't blame you. I might have lied as well but a proper introduction seems to be in place now," waving his other hand and giving a half smile before continuing in English " my name is Charles Alluring of the annoying pureblood Alluring family," rolling his eyes a bit before listening to Iris and Cash greet each other as Charles let his eyes scan around the room before spotting a boyHugh and giving a slight smile at his attempt to play friendly with a bunch of stuffy pureblood's.

Leaning over to Katherine as he whispered to her in Russian, " look at him? What do you think his deal is? Talking to every girl he sees, almost seems like he's desperate to me," giving her a half smile before turning back to Cash as they said they also had a arranged to a boy named Alec Mason allowing Charles to reply to her in English " Pureblood families can be gits sometimes can't they. My own don't care that I can't find a mate, more like they only care about forming connections with other annoying pureblood's, although I do feel sorry for you Cash." He would give them a rather sincere smile before nodding and giving a slight wave and turning back to the floor.

"I have been practicing my Norwegian, inspired actually to," Charles replied back in Norwegian before giving Iris a half smile and continuing in the language " learn a language to hide your comments about your family, smart," giving the girl another smile before looking around the ballroom again this time eyes falling on a girlKatie and after watching her for a moment Charles would lean into Katherine and whisper to her in Russian, "look at the girl, someone seems a little bit to friendly. Careful or somone would say she's desperate for a friend, five galleons that she has none," giving Katherine a half smile before taking another slip of his tea.

"Finishing school? Sounds like a nightmare, I remember when I endured that torture. Your going to need to luck then if you continue it Iris," Charles spoke in Norwegian before taking a slip of his tea and slightly shaking his head as he spoke " I would help you but I'm dealing with my own torture at the moment. I invited a friend to Christmas eve dinner which went down in chaos and naturally I was blamed for it so I'm spending the rest of the break at a relatives house in France getting lessons from a formal dark witch is amazing," rolling his eyes a bit before glazing around the ballroom again however this time spotting another girlSilvia and giving a slight laugh as he leaned into Katherine and whispered to her "I'll bet you five galleons that she'll do anything to maintain her parents perfect pureblood daughter including.... not care when someone spills a drink on her," before taking a slip of his tea and leaning back on the bar again.

After watching the party goers for a bit longer with Katherine and Iris, Charles took another slip of his tea before speaking to the two of them in English "at least this gala isn't too bad, we all escaped the clutches of are families didn't we?"

Action : Observing the ball, talking to host @Anastasia Beckett
Mentioning: everyone in one way or another

Michael had spend most of the night observing the scene played out before him. He recorded to himself, a dozen times someone had fallen out of the Pureblood Ball standards, some even from purebloods. He was seated at a table, by himself, his mother already on her sixth glass of wine and smiling wide showing how she was deep under the influence. He sighed as he stood, going around the open floor that was a dance floor and getting a glass of whatever was in what appeared to be a glass bowl. He smiled at the taste, apple cider.

After he got his drunk, he decided to walk around some, to see everyone. He saw the hostess and bite his lip. He wanted to go and be nice, say his hellos and this is beautifuls and everything, but she was surronded by others. He took a deep breath and walked over.

"Excuse me, Miss Beckett." He said softly as he walked up. He smiled, "Thanks for inviting me" he started, "It looks absolutely amazing here." He said. His face flushed slightly, "Oh, I'm Michael by the way, I believe I'm in your dancing club?" He said, behind his back, he was bending his pinky to the side some, a nervous quirk of his, that was the only thing keeping him from bolting due to overactive nerves.

When the boy caught her eyes, Sarah immediately felt bad for her blatant staring. She knew what it was like to be stared at. Her bright hair and family name had always been enough to cause curious eyes, but the accident which had taken her family and the scars it had left down her back also often drew stares and pitiful glances which she hated. So, she tried her hardest not to look back at him when she turned to take a chocolate. Except her innate curiosity meant she just couldn’t help but glance back, seemingly at the same time he did. And when she had his gaze, she knew she wouldn’t be able to look away again. She was a master at keeping eye contact and very rarely found herself being the first to break it. in any situation.

Her made his way over to her, stopping a few feet away before speaking. She forced herself not to grin when she realised she might actually have a sun this evening. Or at the very least, a hopefully interesting conversation. The Scottish accident was already intrigue enough, her family on her mother’s side all being Scots. She briefly wondered whether she might have finally met someone who could pronounce her name – and understand why she both loved it for connecting her with her mother, and hated it for its association with the Loch Ness monster.

“I’m hiding,” She admitted, speaking in a stage whisper as if she was worried her father might overhear her. “I managed to escape my father and I don’t intend to see him again until after midnight.” If not seeing the man again until the new year was an option, she was certainly going to take it. He’d insisted that at some point in the evening, they share a dance together – a way of proving something Sarah wasn’t sure she wanted to know about. It was something she hoped to avoid. She loved to dance, but was certain a dance with her father would only lead to setting them both in a foul mood.

“How could I not be enjoying myself when me and this bowl of chocolates are getting so well acquainted?” She asked with a sidewards smirk as she shook the thought of the potentially disastrous dance away. She let her eyes run up and down the boy once more, a not-so-subtle attempt to size him up. He was tall, that much was obvious, though he didn’t look as though he was all that but older than her. the facial hair threw her slightly, but his eyes told her he couldn’t be at most more than a few years her senior. “What about you? You’ve immediately made your way over to the area with the least guests, and decided to speak to the lonely looking girl in the corner,” She said with a raised brow and wondered why exactly he had immediately headed for the side lines. Perhaps this was his first time attending an event such as this. Or maybe he just preferred to hide in the shadows. She let her words hang in the air for a short while before offering her hand. “I’m Sarah by the way.”
