The Sheep's Breakdown
He sniffled as thoughts flooded his brain. It was exactly what he needed to hear. She thought he mattered. He needed to think he mattered. He wiped away as tears spilled, but this time he did not mind. The only thought that passed through his brain relating to display of weakness was that he was going to feel rather damp that night. He almost found himself laughing at the thought. In fact, he did not even notice the smile that now was on his face.
"guess that sorta makes sense or somethin'..." he mumbled, looking down but there was joy to his voice.
It was joy that was difficult to capture within words. It was not happiness, but it was certainly not not happiness. It was the joy one would hear from a younger brother after you had just fought off the people picking on them, but it was not admiration. It was... relief in an obscure way. A feeling of pressure off his shoulders. He felt as if he was Atlas and someone finally took the sky off of his hands.
He once against was calmed as she said it would not be easy. Of course it would not be easy, he had learned that time and time again. Socializing was difficult in fact. It felt as if everyone else was given a 'how to socialize for dummies' manual while he was just thrown into the world and informed 'good luck'. He supposed it was one of the cons that came with being an only child- but then again, he really was not an only child anymore. It remained the same though. He had grown up alone and had never bothered to socialize with people and these were the consequences.
"It better get easier... he joked, but there was truth behind it once more.
And then she invited him to eat. To EAT with her and TALK like normal people did. It made him feel happy inside himself. He was supposed to take that step to make friends. That was what he had gotten from this at least; however, there was hesitance. Not due to her, she was sweet. She was kind. She was mature and... she was the ideal friend. Any person would be lucky to be her friend was a conclusion he had reached as she had stayed with him through the conversation. He wondered how she even had the energy to take care of others when he struggled to take care of himself. It was because of the throbbing sensation in his head. It was because of how he suddenly felt so horribly sleepy to the point he could have sworn he was about to pass out. It was the sudden hunger pains within his gut.
"i.. i.. thank you, but i 'aught to head to my room... sorta damp and all that" he gestured to his sleeve and face. But she was right, he did need to try something new. "How 'bout... two days after Christmas?" he threw out there as a possible option.
He listened to her respond before picking up the plate on the ground. His stomach growled in affirmation that it desired the pie more than anything in the world right now. He walked back to his table to grab a fork and knife before he began to set off. Before he left the room, he waved to the mature girl he met as a sign of thanks. He decided Elena was sweet. Was she the only sweet girl in Hogwarts? He would certainly have to find out.
He kept walking. All the way up the first flight of stairs and he kept walking. He made it to the barrels, in which he proceeded to tap to the tune of Helga Hufflepuff. He crawled through the barrel and all the way into the common room. He continued his exploration until he made it into his little dormitory that could hardly fit himself. The next day he woke up peacefully in his bed with not a single hint of a nightmare. Next to him lie a clean plate of pecan pie.
