Pair Up and Practice
Finding partners for Charms class with @Paz Briggs
Well, the introduction for the lesson had been delivered, the lecture given, the notes taken, the assignment assigned. Now it was time for the First Year students, half Hufflepuff and half Ravenclaw to pair up and practice. There was a bit of a groan that filled the Charms classroom, as this was the first assignment granted to them after the holiday break. It would seem that the students within the class as a whole didn't feel they got enough time off from their studies.
Slowly, some of the students began to get up out of their seats and move around the Charms classroom to find a partner for the assignment, knowing they were going to have to get back to their studies whether they liked it or not. The holiday break was over and it was back to the academic way of life.
The girl next to him, totally taken with the boy that sat in front of her was already leaning forward, tapping him on the shoulder to get his attention and begging to be his partner. Poor boy. Simon wondered if he knew what he was in for. The girl had already scribbled out her name with that boys' last name all over her book cover. Simon wished him luck.
No one was seated to the other side of him. Simon turned to see who was sitting behind him and saw the Ravenclaw girl and gave her a kind smile. "How well do you handle a crisis?" Simon smiled. "Are you a risk taker? What motivates you?" He then paused. This was getting too weird and he was going to scare the poor girl.
"Forgive me. Over the holidays I read an article in one of my aunt's business magazines on questions to ask a potential business partner. I guess it doesn't exactly apply here, does it? Would you like to be partners?"

After sitting patiently through the class time, Paz was surprised they were given an assignment this close to break. Even if it just ended. After being told they were to partner up Paz was surprised. Not knowing who to ask, Paz decided to just sit their and wait for someone to ask her.
In front of her Paz noticed a girl tapping the boy in front of her and asking to partner up. Shaking her head knowing that work might not be done decided not to comment on it. Knowing that the boy was going to despise working with the girl. After all anyone would if they found out the person they were partnering with was drawing their name in a notebook with little hearts around it. Then while looking at the girl a voice catches her by surprise. Turning her head she caught the end of his sentence "What motivates you?" She notices it was the boy sitting next to the girl.
About to speak to the boy and tell him her answer he speaks again catching her off guard by hearing "Forgive me. Over the holidays I read an article in one of my aunt's business magazines on questions to ask a potential business partner. I guess it doesn't exactly apply here, does it? Would you like to be partners?"
Knowing he would like an answer she says No it really doesn't apply here. Though reading through and asking about business deals no problems to me".Paz smiled briefly before continuing "I would love to be partners with you. Thank you for asking me, I didn't know who I was going to ask."Paz smiled briefly again before blushing a little in embarrassment, knowing it wasn't really a pleasing thought. "Although before we do anything could I know your name?"Paz's face cooling down a little pleased to have thought of something smart after saying something somewhat embarrassing. Keeping her hands in her lap through it all.

Introductions with @Paz Briggs
"Simon Ezra Kincaid. First Year Hufflepuff. Born March 9th, in the year 2008 in the capitol city of London in jolly ol' England..." he smiled, giving far more information than she had asked for since all she mentioned was a simple name. Still, he wanted to sound thorough. "Would you like my National Insurance Number as well? Blood type? Personal physician's name?"
But he was only playing around and hoped she wouldn't find it to be offensive at all, as that was far from his intent. He was trying to be friendly here. He turned back around to face his desk but only to gather his things and then he came to the empty seat next to her since others had moved and there was now space.
"What's your name, partner?" he asked, as he arranged out the things upon his desk. His notebook to the left, his textbook to his right, and his wand right in front in the middle. This was Charms class after all so surely they'd be practicing something with their wands.
Halfway into the school year and it still seemed surreal to him.
Wands. Spells. Magic.
But it wasn't something out of his childhood fantasy books anymore. No, it had become a reality to him and although that was slow to set in, he didn't mind because it left him fascinated with this life each and every day.

Paz was surprised by how much he said when introducing himself, but was glad to have been given the extra information at the same time. While being lost in her thoughts she didn't notice him... Simon was gathering his stuff to sit next to her. So when she looked up she was surprised to see him laying his stuff out in nearly the exact same way as hers. Although her notebook was too the right and her textbook to her left.
So when Simon asked Paz for her name it wasn't so surprising to her. After all she did ask for his it was only common for him to ask of hers. "It's nice to meet you as well Simon. I'm Paz. Paz Analia Briggs. First year Ravenclaw obviously. I was born October 25th 2008, in Inverness Scotland."Replies Paz smiling briefly but letting her eyes twinkle in amusement. Figuring that since he gave her the extra information she could give him the same as well.
Looking around to the rest of the classroom she was surprised to see that most people were doing the same thing as them... "Almost a Halloween baby," he said, in reference to her birth date being so close to October 31st. "Then you could have been named something like..." he paused to think. Like what? "Like Raven or Willow or Midnight. I don't think I've ever come across anyone named that before. Paz. I like it. It's very unique. I think there were at least three other Simons in my muggle school back in London. Slightly odd in a way since it didn't even make the Top 100 in the UK in 2008," he shrugged. "Maybe my mum was a local trendsetter," he said with another smile.
He paused to take his book and flip open to the chapter that the day's lesson had been on so they'd be in the right spot in case they needed to use it for reference, although who knew, maybe they wouldn't need it at all. He was paired up with a Ravenclaw and they were the intelligent ones of the castle.
"Now don't go on and try and tell me that you know at least three Paz..es back in your old school in Scotland because I'll never believe it." He really was just trying to fill in the void between now and when the professor would come around and hand them their assignment and they could being working on it. He wasn't sure if the girl was quiet or nervous but he was a people person and loved to talk and get to know people. Hopefully she didn't mind as well. She had shared some details about herself already.

Paz smiled at the reference of Halloween baby and waited for him to finish everything that he was going to say before speaking. All while flipping her book open to the page they were working on that she book marked last night with a blue sticky note. Figuring that even if she read it last night she should still have it open for reference. Noticing that he was doing the same made her happy to know that her partner was at least intelligent as well.
"I'll be happy to let you know that I was actually supposed to be born on Halloween but came early. So Halloween baby is basically correct, plus that is my favorite holiday."Says Paz shaking her head in amusement at her own comment. Knowing that Halloween was always a special time for her she enjoyed sharing it with someone else. Even if it definitely wasn't close to Halloween anymore.
"Although you are correct in saying that my name is unique. Means two completely different things in two different languages. And yes I didn't meet 3 other Paz's at my own muggle primary school in Scotland. Though I did meet 2 different Simons." Paz says this while flipping her notebook open to show more defined notes from what the textbook says. Knowing that this was what she spent last night on while reading the textbook. While also showing some more of her personal thoughts about the topic which Paz was moving to cover up.

Reminiscing of former education with @Paz Briggs
"Ah I quite like Halloween too," he said. "My area of South Kensington is big on trick or treating. Dressing in costume, going door to door at night." Simon absolutely loved it. Some of the holidays had events during the day which he couldn't participate in but not Halloween.
Simon glanced over to her book, the blue sticky note catching his eye. He then saw all the markings that she had placed in it. It made him think that she was probably a true Ravenclaw. His own book had markings too and honestly it didn't need to be something she needed to cover up.
"Back at my other school, we had to read this book that was literally titled How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler. It was written in like 1940 and was 400 some pages on how to effectively read something to retain information and get the most out of a reading selection. The entire class looked probably looked so odd when we were seen in the lunchroom carrying around a book with such a title. I mean, if we couldn't read, why would we have a 400 page book about it? Oh the irony."
"Good book, though. I'm definitely a better student for having read it. Wish I could say that memorizing poems helped in the same manner but no, that's stuff that nightmares are made of. I don't think I'll ever forget the poem I was selected to memorize. Paracelsus by Robert Browning. It had five parts. FIVE parts!"

Paz giggles a little in amusement on hearing them having to read a book about how to read a book. Not being able to imagine why such a thing exists. Although hearing him complain about poems made her nod her head in agreement while giggling a little more with his repetition.
"I can certainly understand why you despise poems. I was never and still am not a fan of those monstrosities. There's so many rules, styles, rhythmic patterns, and language to go with it, it's so bloody annoying. A true nuisance in my opinion." Paz says while shaking her head in annoyance remembering the horrors of them. Thus causing her to shudder a little.
"I remember having to make one in less than thirty minutes in my 4th year. It was terrifying. We had to make it a whole page long while personifying nature. Do you know how hard it is to personify a leaf! While adding these big person words at the time into them, in which we had no clue what or who they were at the time. It was horrible I tell you horrible."Paz says while shuddering again.
Deciding she was done talking about the horrors of poetry, she decided to change topics to something much better. The topic of animals and creatures. "Moving on from that, what is your favorite animal and creature?"

Magical creature talk with @Paz Briggs
"Tired. Weak. Helpless. I find myself falling. Falling. Falling....Wait. Not falling - Sailing. SOARING! I'm free! Free from the oppression that was holding me back! " he gave his best attempt at what he would do if trying to personify a leaf. Was that what she even meant? He laughed. "But yes, moving on."
Moving on with a rather big question! Before Hogwarts his favorite animal or creature would have to be something like a woodland critter, an arctic animal, an African mammal perhaps? But now being at Hogwarts it could be a werewolf, a dragon, a unicorn, and an assortment of other things that he never knew existed until now. Some he STILL didn't even know about!
"Uh, I think dragons are pretty awesome. I mean...come on, they're dragons. DRAGONS," he said, trying to emphasize the word as if that was justification enough for having them be one of the most awesome things in the universe. "Beyond that, lizards are kinda cool. If I had my choice of critters we can have here at the castle, I might try for an owl of my own or a rat. Might try for that come second or third year." He'd have to save up some of his money and so forth. It wasn't something he wanted his aunt to try and purchase him. Afterall, she'd probably think having a personal owl was one of the weirdest things in the world.
"What about you?" and he was interested to know her answer. She probably had one in mind to ask the question and again, being now part of this magical world he never knew existed up until a short while ago - the answers to such a question ere almost endless.

"Well for myself the answer is a panther is were talking non magical. Though for magical terms I have to agree with you that it's dragons. I grew up with dragon and cat plushies and reading books with them as the main or side character. They took attention to find them as my favorites." Paz says this while blushing lightly unknowingly when admitting that she had plushies of them. After all being raised in both the magical and muggle world had it perks in her opinion.
"I was planning on getting a cat next year or an owl. Though I may try for another animal if I get an familiar bond with them. My own cat at home tried to make one with me but I refused it knowing that she should stay home and help keep rodents out of the manor for my parents.
