A Winged Friend
"Oh Mum! Please! I really want an owl! Please! Please! Please!" The young eleven year old girl was in Diagon Alley with her mum. (Her father was busy working.) The woman accompanying the little girl sighed, she seemed irritable. "Alright! Alright! Fine, go inside and take some Galleons. I'll get your books!" The woman pushed some golden coins into the young girls hands and walked towards a store titled, 'Flourish and Blotts.' Sophie wanted to get so much of everything, her mother had been getting irritable.
Sophie entered the Store, titled 'Magical Menagerie.' When she opened the door, a waft of owl droppings, and cat smell washed over the small girl. She closed her eyes, and took it all in. She had never had very many pets, as her old cat had passed away when she was young.
'Mummy! I'm going to go get Mila!' Called the younger version of Sophie. She would run swiftly onto the soft, cool grass that was outside. The sun was shining brightly, and there was no cloud in the beautiful blue sky. Sophie would slam the screen door shut behind her, as she called. 'Mila! Mila! Come here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!' There was no brushing against her leg, and there was no mew in reply. Sophie would search all over the yard, nothing. That was until-, 'MILA! NO!' Screamed the little girl. Tears, began to flow freely from her widened eyes. The beautiful elder Calico cat was laying on her side. Her flank, was not rising. She, was not breathing. Sophie collapsed, and clutched the old cat tightly to her chest. Nothing mattered anymore, and the thing that did, was gone. Sophie called for her mum, who managed to calm down the 6 year old, before of course, Sophie passed out from dehydration.
Brushing off the memory, Sophie turned to the wall of animals. There were tons, if not hundreds of animals. Owls, Cats, toads, bats, you name it! It was there!
Sophie however, was more interested in the owls. There was quite a bit. Some snowy owls, some barn owls, but every single one was absolutely stunning.
There was one owl that stood out more than others. She was a beautiful snowy white owl, with black wing tips, and her talons were midnight black. She had piercing blue eyes, which were a contrast as her eyes were pale blue, and her body was milk white. Quietly walking up to the owl, she felt a connection. There was another owl behind her as well. This one was midnight black, with white tips and white talons, and Sophie knew instantly that they were mother and daughter. Without hesitation she put both of her arms out, and the owls stepped onto her arms.
Sophie knew that her mother would never separate the family, and Sophie would give her mum the elder owl, and Sophie would keep the younger owl, as she would need the owl to last for her whole life. Because, memories were coming back.
"You like those two eh? Tell you what, you can have them for 5 galleons in total, Nobody would dare take them both, because, well, most people would just want one." Said the cashier when Sophie neared her. Sophie swiftly dropped the bag of galleons on the counter, as both owls were occupying her shoulders. The cashier pulled out 5 galleons and handed the bag back to Sophie. Sophie thanked the woman and walked outside to her mother, whom gasped.
"Mum, meet Kiyoko and Kiki, You can have Kiki as she is the mother. I thought they would remind you of us!" Sophie declared, and for some odd reason her mother, didn't object.
Of course, months later Kiki would pass away, and Kiyoko would be an orphan.
