And So It Begins
Nora waved out the window as the train pulled out of the station. Her family waved back. Elsa was probably the most excited, holding up a painted banner that said "Have fun during your first-year," while her mother was crying and her father was just smiling. She felt a little... odd as they disappeared from sight, but she shook off the feeling and sat down, looking around the empty compartment.
Oh! She could read one of her books again! Magical Theory was her favorite, to the point where Elsa started teasing her and asking if she planned on inventing spells. She could hear Elsa in her mind.
"Off to read your book again? We're going to have an inventor in the family. I thought for sure that you would be more interested in potions, but here your other book lies. So sad and lonely. Maybe I should read it!"
Nora turned, opening her mouth to tell Elsa that she liked potions too but didn't she want to know how spells worked?, before realizing she was alone in the compartment. Elsa's laugh faded from her ears slowly. It was strange, not having her best friend by her side. She felt like she was missing her arm. She wiped at her tears and stood to try and get her book from her trunk. She didn't want to cry in public. How was she supposed to make friends if she was crying? How was she supposed to make friends without Elsa by her side? She grabbed her book and curled up in the seat, holding it up over her face to hide her tears.

And So It Begins
Her father had walked her all the way to the station but got very flustered and embarassed that someone might see him. Finally they saw someone going through the wall to Platform 9 3/4. Never in her life had she seen such a thing, but then again, she didn't frequent train stations.
"You've got it all worked out," he said, and she realized she would have to go through alone. Her father was tall and forboding. But alongside his usual look of sterness was something else--nervousness perhaps. She had never seen him so fidgety.
As she turned to leave, her Father called her name. "Nora..." she turned back obediently. "Nevermind. See you for the Holiday. Behave yourself!"
Well, she had faced a lot of fears that year, and a lot of bizarre things had happened. This was just another one, so she walked straight through the wall with her eyes wide open. What was on the other side took her breath away: students running all over, cats meowing, owls screaching. A pain rose in her throat when she saw children saying good-bye to their families.
She wished she had a pet! And it occurred to her that her outfit was a mistake. Unsure about her new robes, she donned her old boarding school uniform: a pleated skirt, blouse, vest, and black dress shoes.
After that initial swell of emotion, she became focused on the task at hand. Magical or not, she was going to school, and she had to find a spot on this train. She knew two things about any school: the teachers wouldn't like her no matter how hard she tried, and the students wouldn't like her because she was weird.
Nora went from compartment to compartment. Some were full. She peaked into a few, but the students stared at her until she left. She had a tendency of--putting people off was the nice way to say it. Her large, brown eyes were rather intense, and she didn't bother with smiling or giggling all the time. Finally, as the train whistle was blowing and older students were yelling for everyone to find seats, Nora saw a compartment with just one other girl.
It was hard to tell if the girl was friendly or not, because she was covering her face with a book. Perhaps she was afraid of trains. She had a small frame and long blond hair, and seemed non-threatening. Stealing herself, Nora stepped inside.
She meant to introduce herself, but only managed to make a noise.
"Er..."

And So It Begins
Nora was startled when she heard the new person, almost dropping her book. Here it was! A chance to make a friend! She set her book in her lap, trying to remember what everyone told her. Just be yourself. Be friendly. People will come to you. Not everyone is going to like you, but there will be at least one person who does. When in doubt, talk about your books. You get so into that magic stuff, it's almost like it's real! Here was someone who she could maybe talk about magic with!
She turned towards the student, pausing for a moment. Her hair was so pretty that it threw her off for a moment. Was it naturally like that? It looked so soft. How did she take care of it? Was she a muggle-born or did she grow up in a wizard household? Were there potions that could make anyone's hair look that soft? Were there potions that would keep the dye in her own hair until the holidays so Elsa could dye it again? She blinked a few times, trying to pull herself from the swirling questions in her mind.
"Hi! I'm Nora. It's nice to meet you. Do, um, do you need a seat? There's no one else in here, so there's plenty of room." She smiled widely at the girl. "And I can share my books! Well... they're the standard books for first years because my mum said I should wait until Yule for more books and that there's the library at Hogwarts which is filled with books, but I really want to talk about them with someone. Do you have a favorite book?"
She realized she had been talking nonstop at the girl and fell quiet, keeping the smile on her face. She hoped she hadn't messed anything up by rambling so much. Elsa never minded, but it could be a lot for people and she didn't want to scare the girl off.

And So It Begins
Her first day could've started off better, at least. Dineo's parents didn't like taking too wild of a risk, but now they were financially successful muggles sending their daughter off to some ‘shady, pagan school’, as her father like to call it, on the ‘iffy promise of unmatched education and a unique opportunity to experience an exotic culture’, as her mother noted. They only let her go because she was apparently going to learn way more than they could ever imagine, since it was for ‘extremely gifted and talented’ students only.
Dineo was just excited to be leaving her old, boring life behind, but she wish she could've done it in a better way. Her parents were muggles who couldn't access they area where other students were going out because of ‘security issues’. That's what they were told, at least. Dineo knew the real reason but that definitely didn't make her feel better.
“It's for the best,” sighed her mother, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Wouldn't want to ruin your experience at the very beginning, sweetheart.”
They were standing in the train station, saying their last goodbyes. Her father was craning his neck, trying to find a train with students crowded around it. There was one but it was for older university students, not for an eleven year old such as herself. Dineo wanted to stay with them but also get going.
Her younger brother Meas pursed his lips at her. “Will you be able to call us when you get there, so we can make sure you're okay?”
“Uhmmm, I don't think they have service...out in the country.”
Her mother raised a brow. “But you will at least send us a letter?” She made it sound like a question but it was really a command.
Dineo nodded her head and looked away. “Yes, ma'am.”
They talked for a bit before her family said goodbye. Her older siblings weren't able to make it so she had only said farewell to her parents, younger brother, and infant sister Evelyne.
She hugged them all, exchanged kisses, and waited until they walked off before rolling her suitcase over to the wall she was instructed to go to. Am I really supposed to run through— she thought, as she tried not to pine for her family.
Dineo's thoughts were answered when two kids her age rushed past her, heading cart-long into the wall—and they just went right through. The young girl stood in shock for a moment before collecting herself. She had to get used to seeing magic or else she get left behind.
After eyeing passerbys, she swallowed her uncertainty and followed suit, rushing towards the wall. She closed her eyes halfway but in no time she was on the other side.
Dineo barely had time to take in her surroundings before she heart a great whistle blow from the red express in front of her. She headed toward it as someone shouted for all students of Hogwarts to board the train. So much is going on too fast, am I late or is this the norm, she wondered. Dineo didn't like when things went too fast-paced for mind to properly comprehend.
She got onto the train, gave her luggage to someone and carried just a small backpack. The usual was in there with the exception of her iPhone, which had to be left behind because of a no cellphone policy. But she didn't mind as much as she thought she would.
Dineo walked for a bit, trying to decide who to sit with, but after a while the train started to move so she decided to stopped at the compartment coming up.
She looked in and found two girls who seemed to be her age, not that it mattered too much to her. Dineo offered them a tiny, brief smile. “May I join you guys? The train's moving and all.”

And So It Begins
“I… Oh. er…”
The girl quickly dropped the book and was talking so quickly--and so cheerfully--that Nora gave a nervous laugh. She couldn’t remember the last time anyone was that happy to see her, and this was a total stranger.
“Nora? You’re Nora? Oh.” She paused. “I'm Nora!”
The other girl's smile was so welcoming and encouraging, she took a seat--albeit nervously--on the same bench but left enough room between them for books or whatever else New Nora might want to play with.
“Books? Oh…” She pulled her trunk in front of her where it awkwardly took up most of the foot room. Her father, after a very tumultuous trip to Diagon Alley where he almost had a nervous break-down, had stowed away all her new books and supplies and told her there was no reason to mess with it until she got to school. So she had gone back home and played with her normal toys and the whole trip to the magical shops felt like a dream… until now.
She gave the latch a hearty pop and gingerly opened the lid. Inside were books--magical books, strange, mysterious books--and viles, and a cauldron. Nora glanced over to her new friend as if not sure what to look at first. On top was Magical Drafts and Potions, so she wrapped her hands around the leatherbound cover and lifted it up.
Just then, someone else entered the doorway--a girl with cappuccino skin and reddish-brown hair who seemed confident.
“May I join you guys? The train’s moving and all.”
Nora looked to the other blond questioningly. She never had a peer ask her permission for anything, and assumed right away that authority belonged to New Nora, who was there first.

Willow rushed through the carriage of the train. She had just wanted to go to the toilet before the train started just incase, but she was going to be late and didn’t have a chance before her mother rushed her. Now she was just frantically searching for a carriage that was welcoming.
As she was running through with all her books and bags, she found all of the girls in the carriage and stopped running, but she was still panting. Not wanting to run anymore, she burst into the compartment with the three girls. “The trains moving and all.” Was all she heard, and she watched as one of the girls with big brown eyes looked at the little blonde girl.
Awkwardly, she cleared her throat “hello ladies.” she said, trying to sound as formal as possible “May I...Join you?” she said, trying to be kind. Willow also tried to annunciate as much as possible. Her strong Scottish accent was often hard to understand to others. She knew she could come off as intimidating or scary, considering her tall height and thick, furrowed brows, but she was trying to be nice. She could always be mean and intimidating later if she had to.
She glanced at the confident-looking girl next to her, then looked back at the girl with brown eyes and the girl with pretty blonde hair. It’s not like they could deny her, the train was already moving. Right?

And So It Begins
Not to skip turns, just want to give you two @Dineo Earle and @Willow Linach a chance to sit down
"Oh! Er..."
Now another tall, rather formidable Scottish girl came careening into the door, only to quickly come to a halt, almost comically, as though an invisible wall kept them both--her and the dark-skinned girl--trapped there.
Nora was horribly flustered and felt she was being inadvertently rude! She was always the one to get picked last on the lacrosse team. She was always the one asking someone else if they minded if she sat down. (And was usually told "no.")
In just a moment's glance, Nora took in the newest girl to arrive. She had bright red hair and stunning blue eyes, skin fair enough to challenge her own. Nora was also very fond of the Scottish accent, having always found it lilty and melodic. What a collection of souls in this room! Nora found other students terribly intriguing.
"O... of course!" She said, perhaps too quickly, feeling nervous that they even had to ask. Of course they could sit near her! She was so caught off-guard by it all. "Um... yes, do sit down." She referred to her proper upbringing when all else failed.
Her trunk was still in the middle of the floor and there wasn't much foot room, so it blocked the walkway. Nora skirted around so she was opposite the two girls and began lifting her trunk, but it was too heavy--she could barely get it to budge.

Willow sighed with relief when the girl said she could sit down. She didn’t really pay much attention to her, she was too busy noticing how she towered over the girls.
“Thank you,” She went to sit down, but she noticed the large trunk, and then she noticed the girl struggling to move it out of the way. Knowing her own strength, she decided to help the girl. “let me help with that,” she said, trying to be kind before quickly moving it out of the way and sitting next to the girl. She looked at her.
“Uh, sorry for...If I’m like...Sorry if I’m being a nuisance.” she laughed awkwardly at her own stuttering and shyness ”I’m Willow.” Her accent was strong. Normally she’d make an effort to try and speak clearly, but she was out of breath from running and too caught up in the commotion of trying to sit down that she just spoke quickly and not very clearly.
Then, she held out her sheet-white hand to shake Nora’s. She thought the girl’s voice was quite proper, Willow wanted to act proper and she thought that doing that was the right way to go about it. She wasn’t really used to speaking to people.

Nora felt excitment build in her chest. Another Nora! That was something they could bond over, right? She smiled broadly at Nora, falling a little quiet when the other two girls came in. Should she say something? It wasn't her compartment and Elsa was always telling her to let other people talk if she wasn't sure what to do.
The awkwardness began to seep into her body. She needed to speak. She needed to say something.
"Hi! I'm Nora. Well, another Nora. The second Nora? It's nice to meet everyone! Do you guys have a favorite book? In general, it doesn't have to be a school book. I like to read. Did you guys grow up in muggle homes? My dad is a muggle and so is my older sister and Elsa's favorite book is actually a series where they redo fairy tales. And wow, Willow, you're so strong! How are you so strong? Do you lift things a lot? Do you play sports? I bet you'd be good at Quidditch if you do."
She realized the flood of words that came out of her mouth and clamped it shut, turning bright red. Talking at people was not the way to make friends, Nora. She fidgeted with her book, plastering a bright smile on her face in the hopes they would forgive her. Knowing everything about the three other girls was not the most important thing in the world.

Willow laughed a little as the girl spoke. The questions overwhelmed her a bit, but she knew that the girl was just nervous. She had been there before.
“It’s lovely to meet you other Nora” Willow said politely, reassuring the girl that it was okay and she shouldn’t be nervous. Then she thought about her next questions “ Do you guys have a favourite book?” and ” Did you guys grow up in muggle homes?”and of course all the questions about her being strong.
”My favourite book is the Testaments by Margaret Atwood. It’s the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. I like how it really explores how women are treated in society.” She said to Nora’s first question. She was quite excited to have a chance to talk about things that she liked.
Then she decided to answer Nora’s next question, but it did fill her with a little bit of dread. ”Well...Um...I was supposed go to grow up in both but it didn’t really work out.” she said quietly, a little anxious. Talking about that made her a little nervous so she decided to move on.
”I suppose I am quite strong. It’s just the way I am I guess. I used to play volleyball a lot, I really loved it and i miss it, but that’s the only sports really. When I was younger I did a lot of exploring and I climbed trees a lot so that most likely helped me become stronger.” she laughed a little , ”Perhaps I’ll try Quidditch but I don’t know.”
That was the last thing she said, deciding that she should give Nora a chance to take all of the information in.
