Fitting Within The Dusty Corners
It was a day like any other. Faint rays of sun glided through the windowpanes as one specific dhampir walked down the hall. Within her grasp there's a bunch of books being held. Her pale thin fingers gently curling around the leathery backs. Her eyes glanced over at the high stone walls. There was a certain emptiness within her usual icey blues. A spark that was vacant. They once watched these halls with such wonder. Now they just seemed dull and insignificant.
With a quiet pace, the redhead gently pushed against the wooden doors leading into the Library. Probably one of the best safekept sources of information. One would expect. One would hope. Only giving other students but a glimps of her attention, Nico walked to the back, looking for a silent spot where she hoped to not be disturbed for a while. Gently plopping down on the ancient yet timeless chair, the dhampir let out a soft sigh.
From within where she was seated, she watched the tall, high reaching bookcases. Endless amounts of books nearly as far as the eye could see. Was it nearly endless then?
Gently placing her hands down on the desk, her fingers started to fiddle with the covers of the few books she had chosen to bring with her. She should've brought them back as they were lended. The last few days had been rough again. Sleeping was hard. She kept on having these weird nightmares that she couldn't quite place.
Exhausted with baggy eyes, she turned her head to watch one of the high windows. The slightly yellow light dropped in, painting on her face.
Within her mind, she could see herself standing in a wide spread field. Her knees were deep inside layers of snow. She was stuck. A sharp, ice cold wind cut her cheeks as her arms were wrapped over herself. Desperately trying to protect herself from the cold that slowely creeped into her clothes and on her skin. Within the snowstorm she couldn't see a thing. It was chaos. Pure white and white noise.
The dhampir was screaming. Hoping to surpass the volume of the whirling winds. But it was no use. Her cries died out against the wall of cold dust that kept on pouring down, slowely clinging onto her legs more with each passing minute. Red traces of blood ran down her cheeks, almost instantly freezing when it hit the air surrounding her. It felt terrifying. Lonely.
Isolated.
Nico woke up, back in the Library. Blinking, her cheeks felt wet. With the back of her hand, she wiped her face, intense red tears colouring her paperwhite skin. Catching hersef off guard, the redhead quickly looked around, seeing if anyone watched her. Seemed her screams did stay only within her dreams and didn't seep into reality. With a soft sigh, she pulled up her knees and burried her face in it. Staining her stockings. Without making another sound, the child lightly sobbed to herself for a while longer before quietly walking back to her dorms. Books back in hand. She'd bring them back another time after all...
You're gonna need a bigger boat
