Had they gotten validated and sorted yet? Because I know accounts with rule violations do get deleted in validation, so if there was something like that, that may be the reason. If he was already past validation and sorted and all that, I don't think he would be deleted without his knowledge unless he did something warranting being banned.
Long story short, I survived

I'm on the validation team, like Lucia said, so you can shoot me an owl. Theres a chance that his account may have gotten pruned while in the validation queue. We usually remove accounts that have failed to make any sort of changes on their profile, after a few days.
