There's a little something on your face
Paige walked into the library. She had just finished her Astronomy homework, so she thought she would take a break. Yes, to her reading more books was taking a break. Walking into the library, she could see there weren't that many people there. Probably in the snow. Paige had already been out there, but she got cold. Besides, what's cozier than reading in a comfy chair, in a quiet place, by the candlelight? Nothing. What should I read today? She has read almost everything. Now is the time she missed her muggle books. Then she remembered. She dug through her bag, hoping she didn't take it out.
"Aha!" She pulled out her favorite Christmas book from home. A Christmas Carol. It was such a great story. She was looking around for a place to sit. Then she saw him. A student asleep with his face on a book. She laughed. She walked over to the boy, who seemed to be in a deep sleep.
"Hey! You!" She nudged him. Nothing. "Hey!!!!" Still nothing. Paige slammed her book as hard as she could on the table. Only when the boy shot up did she see his robes. He was a Slytherin. She, the muggle born, just rudely woke up a Slytherin. She didn't dare laugh at the book stuck to his face. She had to say something.
"Er... There's a little something on your face."

There's a little something on your face
Today, the eleven year old slytherin found himself comfortably lying in a chair with his legs propped up on a table. He had come here to relax and get away from his thoughts, as usual. This time, the thoughts plaguing his mind were the status of the bonds and connections he had formed in other houses. He didn’t have enough. In fact, he hadn’t met a single Hufflepuff, and although they were known for their kindness, it was always better to have truth over speculation. When it came to the house of Slytherin, Calvon could only rely on himself to gather information, and when it came to information gathering, the Snape resident collected it in a very unique way. In the boy’s journal, and mind, he detailed people of interest--people who either had the ability to cause change or mightily influence events in the house. Now, being that he was eleven, Calvon didn’t actually have that list of criteria in his head. It was much simpler for him. For the four foot eight boy, it all had to do with their vibes.
Of the people he had met in Slytherin, a large majority of them had been his fellow dormmates. The Snapes. The name had a sense of danger and degeneracy--and it definitely fit. The boys of that dorm ranged from absolutely harmless to a boy whose eyes and presence resembled that of a venomous snake. They were a compelling group of kids...but only two of them caught Calvon’s eyes as of yet. Jack Burnet and Selim Faust.
The vibes of the latter were nothing short of unique. Selim gave off mysterious vibes to Calvon, and if he really had to describe it, he’d describe it as similar to a knife, the artic, or a camping snake. All of these objects were dead, cold, or completely still and relaxed. Yet, every single one of those objects could kill a person before they even knew it. Now, Calvon was only eleven and had never experienced anything resembling death, so the concept of “killing” wasn’t even in that calculating head of his. However, he was human, and consequently, an animal, so his primal brain mentally noted the danger of Selim. But Calvon, a product of comfort and shelter confused this sense of danger for interest, and hopefully for the boy, it wouldn’t come back to hurt him.
Now the former, Jack Burnett, was nothing short of captivating. Calvon had only met him a handful of times, but each time--each and every time--he made the boy’s scrupulous brain go into overdrive. Everything that fiery headed boy did commanded attention. From the manner in which he carried himself--durable enough to handle anything the world threw at him--to the way in which he was able to handle people, as if his psychological understanding of people was much greater than that of a schoolboy, everything about the boy howled leader. If Calvon had to compare Jack to an animal, a lion was tempting, he always got a “lion vibe” from strong individuals, but that was nothing short of a generalization. If he had to specifically compare Jack, then there was only one answer. A Red Wolf. The red was a clear result of the boy’s hair, but the wolf was clear as day to Calvon. Jack was both able to function by himself, a lone wolf, but also able to strongly lead others if the need arose--like the leader of a wolfpack. Anything else was selling the gifted boy short.
But besides these two boys, Calvon didn’t have any information or knowledge of anyone else in his house, not to talk of the school, with vibes that caught his sight--and that was precisely the issue! There were definitely more powerful people in the castle; they were just waiting to be discovered. And Calvon would make sure to discover them.
The boy’s mouth would gape open as a yawn escaped from it.
For now, it seemed like it was time to take a break. So the boy, with his legs still crossed and elevated on a table in front of him, put his book over his head and dozed off.
BAM!
The boy’s body shot up like a rocket, and looked around frantically as if in danger. According to his observant, emerald eyes, he wasn’t the only one in the library who was startled, but his eyes also told him that he was the source of the noise. A puzzled look would paint the boy’s face as he looked around himself to see what could have caused the noise, then he saw it--or rather her.
“Er... There's a little something on your face.”
She didn’t...Did she just…? Nooooo.....This girl just-she slammed her book on the table to tell Calvon that he had a book on his face? It was the library for goodness sake, it was nothing out of the ordinary! And the library was supposed to be a quiet place. Why in the wizarding world would she even-
The eleven year old closed his eyes, took a deep breath and rubbed his eyebrows. He was getting annoyed. Fast. Before opening his eyes, Calvon went over the details he had just seen in his head. She was a girl--obvious enough--brown hair, Ravenclaw. A Ravenclaw. The school was supposed to be known their wit and intelligence--she...Well, Calvon had his own thoughts to say the very least, and he was trying to cool off.
But the boy was eleven and quite frankly, that was asking way too much of him.
With a snap, his emerald green eyes opened and flashed with annoyance as he yelled, “What is wrong with you? Why would you do that? We’re in a library! Don’t you have any common sense?!"
It was at this point that Calvon noticed that now he was the one drawing attention.
That wasn’t a good look--not a good look at all.
He’d close his eyes and take another deep breath before saying,
“Look…” He’d rub his eyebrows once more in an attempt to calm himself down. “I’m not mad at you--well, I am mad at you, but it’s whatever. It’s not a big deal. Just please don’t do that again. It’s annoying.
The young Slytherin would sigh and shake his head before sitting back down. A smirk would crawl across his face as his comical situation replayed in his head. With that same, mischievous smirk on his face, Calvon would raise his eyes to meet the girls’ and say, “Okay, you’re interesting and a Ravenclaw. My name’s Calvon Faux. Who are you?”
This may not have been a golden opportunity, but it was an opportunity nonetheless.

Paige hesitated before meeting the boy's mischievous smile with her own. "Paige. Paige Chase." Paige shifted her weight. And raised her eyebrows. "Stupidest Ravenclaw of the year for waking a Slytherin up." She tilted her head. "Sorry about that. It's just-" Paige thought for something to say. There really was no excuse. "It's just that it's not respectful to the book. You know, falling asleep on it." She knew that was no excuse. She thought she could at least try and be funny. Because, you know, who doesn't have a sense of humor.
Paige shook her head to herself. "Yeah, uh. What makes it worse is that I'm a muggle born." She didn't meet Calvon's eyes. She knew that Slytherins had this bad vibe for muggle borns. They were apparently beneath them, or something like that. To Paige it made no sense. Who decided that your blood status made you better than others? Someone who wasn't in Ravenclaw, that's for fricken sure. Stupid. That's what it was. It was all so stupid.
And Paige made it worse by rudely waking up a sleeping Slytherin. Because, well you know, Ravenclaws are brilliant. That was Paige. Smart, but... stupid? She snapped back to attention.

There's a little something on your face
The Ravenclaw would meet Calvon’s mischievous smirk with a smile of her own before introducing herself as Paige Chase. She’d shift her weight a bit, something that made Calvon believe that she was still a little nervous despite her smiling exterior. His assumption would be confirmed by her following statement. “Stupidest Ravenclaw of the year for waking a Slytherin up. Sorry about that. It's just-” The girl would pause and put on a thinking face which would cause the young Slytherin to scrunch his face in confusion. What could she possibly be thinking about? She hadn’t...just randomly woken him up had she? Not only would that have been short sighted, but it would have also been a tad bit rude. But there would be no need for any further speculation as Paige’s face soon lit up. She had her answer.
“It's just that it's not respectful to the book. You know, falling asleep on it.”
Calvon’s face would go blank as he heard these words. HUH? The boy would think to himself as he quickly licked his lips. His eyes would narrow and dart around as he tried to make sense of what the brunette had just said. Unable to process anything, the boy’s mouth would slowly open and spit out its response.
“Wha….what do you meaaaaan,” his voice would begin to go higher in pitch, “disrespectful to the book. That-” Calvon would raise his hands to his eyebrows and cover his face, and began to shake his head. His body would start silently covulsing...he was laughing. Calvon was laughing, and he could not control himself. Finally releasing his hand from his face, a large, open-mouth grin would be revealed. “That just doesn’t make any sense!” He’d say as he leaned back in his chair and started heartily chuckling. There was something about the pure irrationality of the statement that tickled the humor of the extremely logical child as he was now holding his sides and attempting to stay quiet as tears snuck out the corner of his eyes. Unknown to Paige, the boy needed a second to catch his breath, so she continued to speak.
“Yeah, uh. What makes it worse is that I'm a muggle born.” As the Ravenclaw said these words, her eyes and head would seemingly avert from the Slytherin’s as if ashamed. But Despite the laughing fit the boy was currently having, his regardful, emerald eyes caught this--causing him to respond. Still laughing, the boy would say,
“Why, haha, why does that matter at all?” He’d say with a beaming smile on his face. He had settled down a little bit, and was now able to fully communicate, albeit, his face seemed to be bright with glee. The girl made his face as bright as the sun. “Paige,” He addressed her while he shook his head. “that literally doesn’t matter at all. I’m not one of those people who care about blood. Where you come from doesn’t matter at all, and honestly…” No longer laughing, but still smiling, he’d make sure that his green eyes met hers and say, “it’s extremely stupid. Like super duper stupid.”
The boy’s parents, despite both being purebloods, never seemed to care about their blood status and never groomed their son to care about it either. All they cared about were results, and at the end of the day, blood status didn’t influence that in any way, shape, or form.

Paige smiled. "I agree. It still confuses me. The whole blood status thing." Paige had come across many clubs and heard about many parties ment for pure-bloods only. The pure-bloods got to have fun together and get to know each other as the rest didn't. It was totally unfair. Everyone else didn't want to make parties only for half-bloods and muggle-borns. It was complicated.
She sighed to herself before sitting in the seat across from Calvon. She was relieved that he was no longer angry. Also that he laughed at her stupid joke. Although he could of been laughing at her for making the stupid joke. Either way, she made him laugh. That was always a good start. "So what was so boring about that book that put you to sleep? Unless, of course, being rude to books is just a thing you do?" You never know if falling asleep on books was a thing to expect from this boy. Paige loved books. She hasn't found many boring books in her entire life time. She has trained herself to take short term naps with her eyes open, which is possible. She learned how when she was younger. All her dad read to her was the dictionary. He found it fascinating. She never understood why. She snapped out of her thoughts to listen to her new friend(?)'s response.

There's a little something on your face
Paige, with a sigh of relief, would make herself comfortably and sit across from Calvon. The girl would then ask “So what was so boring about that book that put you to sleep? Unless, of course, being rude to books is just a thing you do?” The question would cause Calvon to chuckle a little before he grabbed the book to his right and show it to the Ravenclaw similar in age to him. Based on the cover of the book, it seemed to be a book about the nations of the world and how they came to be. There was nothing intrinsically boring about the book, at least not to Calvon. The young Slytherin loved reading about leadership, the building of empires, and becoming someone that he could be proud of; it was these reasons that he came to the library in the first place--to find help about how he could attain all of these things.
“I actually found this book really interesting. It talks about how some past nations came to be and what caused them to disappear. In fact, every book I read is interesting to me, to be honest. I was sleeping because I found the book boring. I was sleeping because I was thinking and the book made me feel comfortable. You know?” Calvon would warmly smile as he leaned back in the chair he was in. “For me, this place is the closest thing I have to home. Whenever I came back home after school, I’d always run into my parents library and end up falling asleep there. I didn’t even change my clothes!” He chuckled a little as he remembered memories of his parents looking at him disapprovingly. “Now that I’m not there with them anymore and since I don’t really know that many people here, this is a place I kind of go to just to relax. I know it’s a little weird.” Calvon would chuckle some more while he scratched the back of his head.
He didn’t mind opening up to the Ravenclaw; she not only seemed genuine, but she made him laugh. She made him happy, and happiness was one hell of a drug. She very well could have been masterfully manipulating him in order to get some information out of him or just to lower his defenses for some reason. But Calvon was only eleven, and if those were honestly her true intentions, then he was defenseless. There would be nothing he could do to become alert to the potential manipulation, and there would be equally nothing he could do to stop it. And it made sense, this was one of, if not the first, conversation here at Hogwarts where Calvon actually laughed and completely enjoyed the presence of the person sitting across the table. It made him warm inside. And it was a warmth that a calculating and analytical boy needed.
“Hey...Paige…" Calvon would take a deep breath as he raised his eyes to the ceiling. The lights of the library burned his eyes slightly, but it was a burning that the young boy welcomed. “Tell me...why did you come to Hogwarts. Why’d you choose this school as opposed to any other?” He’d then lower his piercing, emerald eyes to meet her own blue ones. “What goals do you have here? What do you want to accomplish?”
If this was any other conversation, this scene could be interpreted as Calvon making his move. But in this circumstance--in front of this girl--that wasn’t the case. She had revealed a part of Calvon that he didn’t know he had for anyone apart from his parents. She made him want to trust. And so, the schoolboy, devoured by emotions, was ready to open up to her if she opened up to him.

She shook her head in mock disapproval. "Clavon, Calvon. Didn't even change your clothes. And for the record, that sounds booooring. I didn't even know a boring book was a thing." She looked off pretending to be amazed. She turned her gaze back to her new friend. Her eyes watched him for a while. He was kind. You could see it in his eyes. He was funny, too. That was a given.
She leaned back as Calvon would ask her a question that made her stop. "Being a muggle, things were so much different. You didn't use spells that can easily be defected to hurt people. You used words. Words that could cut deeper than the most painful spell you know. Because words are like unforgivable curses. I had a friend. But... we- She- changed. The want for more attention reached her. The attention she wasn't going to get by being friends with me. When I got my letter, I had nothing to lose. I want to get a career that helps people. That makes a difference. So I can prove to myself that when those kids called me worthless, they were wrong." Her eyes were wet and they had gone wide as she realized she just spilled all that. "Calvon! I totally just spilled all that out on you! Sorry."
