Avoiding traffic, soon to be meeting @Elowen Manglewood

Ah, Sundays. They were probably some of the most relaxing at Hogwarts due to the fact that they already had a day to unwind and now, most students anyway, were spending them finishing up their assignments for the upcoming week.

Simon had actually slept the night prior and woke in time to head down to the Great Hall for breakfast. There he had his usual, a little bit of sausage and a little bit of bacon, washing it down with some water but had nothing more. He was still slightly hungry, but then again he always was. A growing boy - his aunt would say!

Now he decided he would make use of this free time and head to the Library and maybe read a little bit from the leather bound Bible that he brought with him to school. Sunday mornings were always for church congregation for him back in London but Hogwarts didn't have something like that. It was strange to go from something that was such an instilled routine to not being there and he wanted to keep it a bit.

He could have gone to his dormitory to read. His particular dorm in the boys' Hufflepuff dorms each had their own little secluded place but it was small and he wanted something a little roomier. The study rooms were boring in his mind and lacked the comfort that the Library provided.

As he turned his usual way to go, there was a fight in the corridors amongst a few older boys. It was hard to say really how many there were as some might have been participants or they might have been spectators but it was quickly drawing a bigger crowd with each word being shouted. ...Ouch. Make that punch being thrown?

Yeah, better to stay clear of that. Simon turned the other way and headed down a corridor he hadn't previously gone down before at his time at Hogwarts and slowly began to down a staircase, as the Hufflepuff area of the castle where he retrieved his book from and the Library were on different floors.

Elowen had woken up with just enough time to rush into the showers, yanking a brush through her hair. It was times like this she wished that she knew a better way to dry her hair instead of letting it air dry. The cold air didn't really help even if she had used a towel to soak up the extra water. Yanking on a pair of grey skinny jeans and a purple sweater, she shoves her feet into a pair of boots before grabbing her bag and rushing out into the corridor outside of the Hufflepuff commons.

She stopped just a moment in the Great Hall, trying to gracefully eat some breakfast; Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and fried tomatoes. Perhaps not the healthiest, but certainly not the worst she could do. Swigging down some tea, she hurried on her way to the library to finish up one last assignment. Then she was free to poke around the castle for the rest of the day.

On her way through the corridors, her ears picked up on a commotion going on nearby, and it didn't sound pleasant. Grimacing slightly, she shakes her head and detours down a corridor away from the disturbance, alighting upon a flight of stairs, not entirely sure where they went to.

Getting Stranded with @Elowen Manglewood

At about the third step, something happened. At fist Simon figured maybe it was a slip or something, or maybe part of the staircase needed mended. There was a clicking sort of sound and and a jolt. No, it was more than just that. He gripped the railing as there was a loud sound and he looked out to see that the entire staircase was shifting!

After making this realization, he realized something else. There was someone else on the staircase with him. Did she find this as equally strange or were moving staircases something normal in the wizarding world? There was so much that he needed to know!

It kept moving only to then just stop. It was no longer connected to the area at the top and no longer connected to the area below, instead it was sort of just suspended there in midair. "Only here..." he muttered, still in a daze of amazement. How was this possible?!

He stood there, waiting for it to move again so it could click back in place somewhere else but no, it wasn't moving any more. He waited another good thirty seconds before looking over his shoulder to where the girl was. "...Does this happen often around here?" he inquired to her. He figured she probably would at least know more than he did. It seemed everyone knew more about the magical world than he did.

Truth be told, she hadn't very much been paying attention to her immediate surroundings, only vaguely aware of stepping on the staircase moments before. So she hadn't noticed that there was someone else there with her. The jarring movement of the staircase drew her out of her head, as she stumbled into the railing. Gripping onto it hard, she looks around and finally notices the boy that was also there.

Though before she speaks out to him, she takes a better focus on the situation at hand, noticing the staircase was now suspended between platforms with no seeming way for them to get off. Hearing the boy call out a question to her, she tries to quickly catch on to what it is, and only just managing to do so.

"Ah, truth be told, I'm not very sure. Though I don't believe it does." Hopefully a teacher would come by a notice, or anyone at all really. It would be horrible to be stuck there all day, though she supposed it didn't hurt to have some company.

"So, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to know your name, since we're in this situation together. I'll start. My name is Elowen, Elowen Manglewood." Seeing no reason to stay standing, she settles upon one of the steps and pats the one above her. "It's early yet, so, we have time to figure something out, at least until someone else notices.

Sitting down with @Elowen Manglewood

Until someone notices. Simon looked around and it seemed that there was no one to notice them yet. This thing would probably get moving again any second. He looked to see what was suspending it and it seemed nothing - yet he knew it was magic. He had been in this school now since the beginning of the term and while it still was odd, it no longer made sense for him to try to figure out how something worked by physics anymore. Magic.

He came and sat down on the step she had patted. "I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid. Pleasure to meet you, Elowen." Elowen was a pretty name and she was the first person he had come across with it.

Simon didn't have to declare that he was a Hufflepuff, at least he didn't think so. He thought he had seen Elowen around in passing through the Common Room some that year and she had probably seen him. Still, even so, it was rather chilly in the castle corridors upon arriving back from holiday break and most students had on sweaters under their house crested cloaks.

"Well, I suppose we have some options here. You could tell me about yourself, we could play twenty questions, a rather limited form of truth or dare, or we could panic and scream our heads off," and he smiled. He was really no where near panicking. In fact, he liked meeting new people so this situation wasn't bad at all in his mind.

@Simon Kincaid

Elowen soon came to realize, upon seeing the boy closer, that he seemed awfully familiar to her somehow, though she wasn't sure how. It took her another minute or two to realize she'd seen him in passing in the common room. How is it they'd never spoken before? She was quite sure they were also in the same year, and therefore in the same classes. Aside from those facts, they at least had the chance to now get to know each other, even if the circumstances weren't under their control.

"Pleasure to meet you as well, Simon." She smiled at him and laughed a bit, thinking that perhaps this magical mishap wasn't all that bad. Not to say it should happen too often. She didn't think she'd like it too much.

"Twenty questions you say? Alright, I'm game for it! How shall we decide who starts?" It didn't really matter honestly, but she figured she would ask all the same, seeing as she hadn't any questions thought of to ask yet. Or maybe she'd ask one as more of a joke.

"Well, let me ask this one, considering our current situation. Would you like to get stuck like this again, company or not?" The question also made her think that maybe twenty questions wouldn't quite fill the time.

Trying to get to know fellow Hufflepuff, @Elowen Manglewood

He smiled at her question, knowing it wasn't quite the way 20 Questions the Game was played but it certainly was a question that was relevant to their situation. "Hmm, would I like to be stuck like this again," he said and looked around at their surroundings and then back to the fellow Hufflepuff.

"Well..." he paused, "Everything that I've learned in physics in my school back at London tells me that with no support, this structure of the staircase should fall at any moment, causing us to crash down surely to our deaths. That part is rather flustering," he said honestly. "Yet, since coming to Hogwarts, I've been amazed at so many things and I'm pretty sure in a castle this old, that it will hold and we'll be perfectly safe. So...I'm trying to trust in that."

That, and this was a school for children! Of course Hogwarts would be a safe place, right?

"As for current company included...."
he paused, as if he had to think about that for a moment but then smiled to show he was only teasing. "I don't know you well enough yet, El, but you're a fellow Hufflepuff and all. That in its own means you have to be fantastic. I mean, only the fabulous are placed there. I should know." Simon joking about being conceited was very far from his true self though - he was quite a selfless person really.

"So before I can decide that, tell me some about yourself."

So the game begins @Simon Kincaid

Her eyes widen as he began talking about physics and crashing, the same scenario but different endings all playing in the theatre of her mind, making her grip onto a rail tightly. Which is pointless since that wouldn't stop anything from happening, if this particular section were to fall. Oh, she really needed to stop thinking about this train of thought.

Letting out a nervous laugh, her eyes scan the surrounding area, hoping to glance someone passing nearby. His little quip caught her attention and she playfully sticks her tongue out at him, her nose scrunching up a bit.

"Oh haha, very funny. Though I see your point in needing to know each other better. As for the fabulous part, maybe just a little." She winked at him jokingly, doing one of those hair flips she'd seen other girls do. Before she burst out laughing at her own show of ridiculousness.

"Well, for starters, I'm from Hawkshead. On the small side, but it's wonderful. Parents are muggles, they find all this fascinating, even if they don't yet understand much of it. No siblings..I used to spend so much time in the local library that I started having lunch with the librarian, Mrs.Conroe." She bites her lower lip as she grins, remembering the lunches spent with the elder woman. But she shakes her head after a minute, clearing her throat. "Sounds a bit silly, doesn't it?" She hadn't said very much about herself perhaps, but it was a decent start.

Getting to know @Elowen Manglewood

"Kinda weird, kinda not," Simon gave his opinion but smiled because he thought it was nice. "I went to the library a lot back in London. I was part of their teen book club," so he couldn't pass judgement on whether or not spending a lot of time at the library made you lame or not.

"Hawkshead is pretty far north," he said. At least it was compared to London. Probably about a five hour trip from the one Hufflepuff's home to the other. "I haven't been up that way." He was a Londoner, through and through - hadn't done much traveling besides near his city.

"Only children are the best," he added, since she said she didn't have any siblings. He didn't either. "We're originals and possess all the talent whereas those with siblings have to disperse it all. Not to mention the good looks. We get all that too."

He opened up his bag and pulled out his water bottle, taking a sip of it. "What else?" he asked. He didn't really elaborate on it though so he decided to continue. "What else did you do when you weren't having lunch with the librarian?" The girl had to have some other interests that she occupied her time with.

She laughs and nods, not being able to fault him for finding it kinda weird she'd have lunch with elderly librarians, as nice as they were. A teen book club sounded nice, though there hadn't been enough interest to start one back home, which she mentioned. "Most kids and teens where I live would rather do anything else than spend their time reading for fun for a club. They much preferred to just spend their time walking around the village and mucking about." Maybe it painted the place in a not so great light, but it was just one of many sides, and it couldn't help but be true.

What else did she do for fun? The question stalled her for a moment before she responded. "Oh! Well, I did like going around and take pictures of whatever caught my fancy. Though I'm not very good at it. Mostly turned out somewhat blurry.

Interest lights up her eyes at the mention of London, having never really gotten to be there before except for Kings Cross station. "What's London like? You must get asked that a fair few times, but I'm genuinely curious. I've never gotten to spend any significant amount of time in a big city.
