Haley was amazed that despite the season, there were still so many beautiful days. But she wasn't about to complain. After finishing all her homework, she hurried to her dorm room, threw her things on her bed in an ungainly and messy manner, put on a big hoodie and hurried down the stairs to the common room and then found her way out of the castle. There was very little traffic in the common room as well in the castle, which Haley could totally relate to - with the nice weather, you just want to be outside.

As soon as she walked through the large entrance door, the many different voices reached her ears, the courtyard was full of students and everywhere she saw some larger and some smaller groups of people. She stood just outside the door and searched the courtyard with a quick glance for a free quiet spot. A few meters away she could spot a piece of grass, which was still sunlit , and already her feet started to move.

Arriving at her chosen spot, she lowered herself and sat down cross-legged. She closed her eyes and breathed in the fresh air through her nose. She let herself fall backwards and stretched out her legs and her hands wandered onto the grass. After lying there for a while, playing with the grass between her fingers, she folded her arms behind her head and opened her eyes again, looking up at the sky.

Many things were going through her mind and of course she couldn't avoid thinking about this one topic again. Only a few days ago she had learned that she was a Parselmouth and after Simon had helped her to find out a bit more about it, she was now lying here as she had done so many times before, but it was not as it had always been, because today she knew about an ability she possessed that not many else possessed. Actually, nothing about her had changed, because she had always been a Parsel after all, only she didn't know it.

Her thoughts went further and further into this. Why was she one? From whom in her family had she inherited this ability and why didn't she know about it? But she was much more interested in the question of how she could control this ability and noticed that she spoke this language. Until now, she never actively noticed that she spoke in Parseltongue, it always just happened when she was absent-mindedly talking to herself.

She started to get a headache from thinking so much, "what a pitty" she said to herself and again she got angry. She had been trying to break this habit for days now, so that someone wouldn't accidentally hear her speaking Parseltongue and she doesn't even notice it herself. She wanted to take advantage of the nice weather to relax a bit and enjoy the beautiful weather but now she is laying here with headache. Shortly she sat up again, bent her legs and put her middle and index finger to her temple and started to massage her head.

If there was anywhere in this castle that Calvon could call his second home, without a doubt, it was the library. The unique, musty smell coupled with the serene quietness of the place completely contradicted the noise and chaos that nade up his mind. It was the the water needed to douse the fire of analyzation. And like water did to a raging fire, it calmed down his mind. In addition to these wonderful facets that made the library unique, there was another--more sentimental--reason why Calvon would always go to the library to relax...it reminded him of home. Coming back home from school, climbing up the stairs into his parents’ room, and energetically crawling to the library. It was this routine that the child had fostered over the years, but now he was at Hogwarts. And it was a constant reminder of just how far away he was from his loving parents.

But despite being in the library nine out of eight of ten times, there was somewhere else the boy liked to be. Besides his comforting room, Calvon loved to be outside. Hearing the singing of the birds, smelling the earthy aroma that came with being outside, seeing the bright, vibrant colors that made up the environment in addition to feelings the warm, comforting rays of the sun nuzzle against his skin did something to Calvon that the library just couldn’t. It physically relaxed and sedated him, Whenever Calvon’s mind was in overdrive, the library was the fix, but whenever Calvon just needed to deal with aches, pains, or any type of physical discomfort, being out in that warm, welcoming weather usually did the trick--keyword, warm.

Due to being hospitalized for over two and a half months, Calvon missed the closing ceremony of the weather he enjoyed so much. Now, all he had to comfort his dulling pain in his mouth was a chilling, ringing sensation that the cold spread throughout the metal in his jaw. Winter weather was not being nice to him this year, and a large part of that had to do with not only his injuries from the summer but the healing process as well. While the cold was good for reducing blow flow and pain, what the recovering boy needed was increased blood flow, so that his body parts could receive the nutrients and healing it so desperately needed. Luckily, his room and blanket had sufficed as a necessary warming environment, but it still didn’t change the fact that the young Slytherin couldn’t be outside. That was about to change.

The weather today was different. Not only was it beautiful out, it was pleasantly warm. Having caught some of that warmth earlier today, Calvon knew that today was a day he absolutely couldn’t pass up. So, the boy, after dropping off all his stuff in his room, quickly, and as composed as he could, made his way toward the courtyard with smile that refused to be hidden. And soon enough, he had made his way outside to the beautiful weather.

Everything was perfect, the sun, the smell, the birds--everything. And upon seeing the other people outside, Calvon’s smile would grow into a grin as he realized that he wasn’t alone in his thinking. Because of the weather, the grass, now a pale-ish yellow, very much contrasted Calvon’s bright emerald green eyes, which were now scanning for a spot to lay. They quickly landed on a perfect spot--sunlit and, consequently, warm. However, the spot was taken by a girl with...hair bright and beautiful enough to warm Calvon’s body and heart. Finding himself staring a little, the boy would shake his head as he realized that he needed to secure another spot before it got taken. Then, he heard it.

A raucous, earsplitting hissing.

There was no doubt about it. That was parseltongue. And as a Parselmouth himself, who was raised to always keep it a secret until necessary, he couldn’t understand why anyone would speak Parseltongue so…loosely.

Naturally, his head shot in the direction of the sound, and the originator of the sound was none other that the girl with hair as orange as a raging flame. With his jaw agape and eyes bulging, Calvon’s head swivelled like crazy, but there seemed to be no one--absolutely no one--who heard it but[/b] him. Realizing this, Calvon wasn’t shocked.

Calvon was flabbergasted, and that was still an understatemt.

Quickly realizing that he was the only one visibly freaking out, Calvon took some deep breaths, paced, and thought about what he was going to say. There was no way he was revealing his secret. That wasn’t happening. But he desperately needed to talk to the girl. Not only was she a Parselmouth but Calvon, having seen her robes, realized that she was a Gryffindor--and he had no connections to that house yet. The girl could be useful--very useful. And while the eleven year old’s brain wasn’t developed enough to verbally express that, intrinsically, Calvon knew. And so, his brain went into overdrive, until it quickly came up with, what the young schoolboy thought was, a foolproof plan.

And so with a little smirk on his face, Calvon would walk towards the girl--still in disbelief himself--pop a squat a few feet beside her, and look at the sky. Whispering, in case anyone was listening, and not directly turning towards her, the Slytherin would begin his plan.

“You just spoke Parseltongue.”

After a few minutes, her headache began to disappear and she released her fingers from her temple. She fell back again and closed her eyes. She wanted to enjoy this day and not break her head with so many thoughts. She breathed the cold air deeply in and out through her nose, focusing on the warm sun rays on her face and the cold air blowing through her hair every time a short gust of wind came and she lost herself in that moment. She felt free, almost as if she was not lying somewhere, but simply floating. She hadn't had this feeling for a long time and although it felt like she had been like this for 10 hours, it was just a minute. But before she could lose herself further in this moment, she was rudely brought out of her trance and back into reality.

Had she just heard correctly? she asked herself, startled in her thoughts. And as soon as her brain woke up again, the sentence repeated itself in her head. Someone had heard her speaking Parsel. Within a millisecond she jolted awake, her eyes wider than they had probably ever been in her life, looking at an unfamiliar face only a few feet away from her. She had been so lost in thought that she didn't even notice that someone had settled there. Her eyes fell on his robes - Slytherin. Immediately after, her gaze wandered back to his face, catching the green eyes directly and they reminding her of her own. Still paralyzed from the shock, Haley opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. She didn't know what to say and she wanted to cry. Not because she was sad, but because she was simply overwhelmed with the situation and at that moment was incredibly angry that she could not break this annoying habit and so it had to come that now someone heard her speak Parsel.

Still overwhelmed with the situation, but by now with a more relaxed face, she now uttered a simple "What?". She hoped very much that she had imagined everything, but just as much she knew very well that she had imagined NOTHING. She was so uncomfortable with the situation that she loosened her gaze again and looked sheepishly at her hands. Why did this have to happen to her and then today of all days.

But before she could continue with these thoughts she suddenly realized something - He must have understood her. So he had to be a Parsel too. Or did he just know about Parsel so well that he knew what it sounded like, or did he have friends who spoke in Parseltongue? Her eyes darted over to the boy again, and this time she looked at him very skeptically. She would have loved to throw a bunch of questions at him, but she held back and her skeptical gaze rested on the boy for a while.

Through the corner of his eye, like a spider watching its prey, Calvon would see the Gryffindor with fiery red hair rocket up--her eyes opened to its maximum length. A smirk wanted to wrestle its way onto the Slytherin’s face, but he forced it into submission; he was too close to setting some plans into motion to have his excitement ruin it. However, unlike him, the green eyed woman to his left was unable to control the whirlwind of emotions she felt. From darting eyes, to an opening and closing of her mouth, it was clear to the boy. She was caught as red-handed as the color of her hair.

What would the Gryffindor do now?

It would take a little while, but she would eventually compose herself and look to address Calvon, who was still squatting nonchalantly and looking towards the sky. In an attempt to hide her secret, she’d stammer, “What?” Upon hearing these words, Calvon would blink apathetically. She’d already shown her cards. She jumped up at his accusation, displayed an obvious face of shock, and couldn’t even decide if she was going to keep her mouth open or closed. There was nothing she could do now but accept her fate. Calvon had a deep understanding of all of this but, due to only being eleven years old, he couldn’t put it all into thoughts. However, that understanding of the situation--the hints he gathered from observation, was all he needed to move forward.

Before saying his next words, the boy would take a deep breath and swallow, but before he could speak, the girl beside him would begin to narrow her eyes and scan him with a skeptical look. The cogs in the wheels of her brain were starting to turn. They were starting to put things together--things that could result in some…detrimental effects. So with this, the cue was given to implement the second step of his plan.

Step 2: Cover the Bases

Through the girls turning of her head, eyeing of his body, and her slight lean forward, it was clearly evident that she didn’t care about having the conversation in secret. So Calvon decided to relax a bit. Still feeling the heat of her gaze, Calvon would lower himself onto his butt and spread out his limbs as he turned his head to look at the sitting girl.

“You spoke Parseltongue; there’s no need to try and hide it. I heard you. And honestly, I’m surprised no one else did.” Calvon would shake his head in disbelief. “I know a guy who speaks Parseltongue, and it's unmistakable. If you just spoke it, then you must be a Parselmouth.” Calvon would close his eyes. At first, it would appear as if he was trying to nap without a care in the world. But, the furrowing of his brows would give away that he was simply just trying to think. “What I just don’t understand...uh, sorry, I didn’t catch your name. I’m Calvon Faux; nice to meet you. But what, I just don’t understand is why you’d so openly display that you’re a Parseltongue. The guy I know wants to keep it extremely secret.” A slight smirk would inch on his face as he opened his eyes proudly. “In fact! I’m the only one who knows that he’s a Parselmouth."

The best way to tell a lie was to sprinkle it with hints of truth. Of course, the eleven year old didn’t know this; Calvon just happened to tell a lie that...wasn’t really a lie. The young boy was a also a Parselmouth, and the only person who knew that he was a Parselmouth was him. Deliberate or not, it was an applaudable act of deception for someone his age, and it was due to that act of deception, that he’d come away from this conversation with his secret still intact.

His confidence would fan the flames behind his bright, emerald eyes as they watched the girl for her next move. Everything seemed to be coming together.

Haley knew that this attempt was totally useless, but she just didn't know how to react about it. She didn't care about her obvious failed attempt, let him think what he wants, much more she thought about why he recognized it. She continued to look at him with a confused look and frowned. She didn't like this situation and would have liked to get up and leave, but again she was too curious.

Haley rolled her eyes at his comments. Yes, she was not happy that this had happened to her either, but she decided not to let him know that. She was even more annoyed that he was obviously judging her. "So I must be one?" repeated Haley his statement, looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Maybe I know a Parsel too, and I've picked up a few phrases here and there." Haley shrugged her shoulders. She didn't know how likely that might be, but she spoke with full conviction and confidence.

"So, Clavon." She paused again briefly and looked at him again critically "My Name is Haley Rose." She wouldn't return that it would be nice to meet him, because this situation felt anything but nice to Haley. "I don't know who this boy is and I don't care that he is making a secret of it. That doesn't mean others have to. In fact, I feel rather sorry for him that he can't confide in anyone but one person about this." Her eyes drifted to him again, she wasn't sure if he would be the right person to confide a secret, after all he was in a way judging her for speaking Parsel.

Haley was annoyed and in a way she was sorry she acted that way. She was sure it all came across as very unkind, which really wasn't her intentions at all. She just wanted to stand her ground and not let anyone judge her for it. She briefly stretched her arms with her fingers crossed and let them crack once as she turned her attention back to Calvon. "Listen," she shortly smiled at him "I didn't mean to be rude, sorry." She just took a breath to explain herself, but then decided to leave it at the apology.

She looked down at her feet again, which were lying on the meadow, and let the tips of her feet touch each other so that her feet fell apart again, and repeated this absentmindedly while she pondered over his last statement. He's the only one who knows he's a Parsel. Haley didn't know why, but she had a bad feeling.
