Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Waiting on @Paige Chase to come outside
Stay warm.
It was the words written on a short note with a package that Simon had received that morning during breakfast with the other student deliveries. Knowing that winter weather was now in full force in the Scottish Highlands, his Aunt Maggie had sent him a new coat along with a hat, gloves, and some other winter weather attire. It was slightly amusing, only because he couldn't really ever remember a time he actually had gotten cold. He remembered a time when he was leaving the the library one evening with his friend Oliver and the two got into a game of truth or dare. Dare was jump in the fountain in the town square - in January. Simon did it and even then he wasn't cold. Still, he appreciated her thoughts of his safety and well being and letting him know he was cared for very much. She was the best.
So part of him felt he had no use for it and he first wondered if he should try to give it away, maybe to one of his Hufflepuff dorm mates but then he got to thinking about how it had been so long since he went out in the snow and got to really experience it. Snowball fights, snow angels, building snowmen, making forts. It all sounded quite fun for the native Londoner whose city only got 10 snow days a year perhaps.
It was later in the day and the sun set early in the later months but he wondered who might be up for some winter recreation. One of his first thoughts was Paige Chase because she tried to offer him hot chocolate one time. His reasoning? Well, you can't truly love if you don't know hate and the other way around. Maybe you couldn't full enjoy the coldness of winter pleasures without enjoying something like hot chocolate to warm yourself up.
Maybe that logic was flawed. He didn't much care.
He hurried off to the Owlery to send her a note:
Do you wanna build a snowman? Meet me on the grounds. Dress warmly!
Yes, he knew it was reference to that crazy movie. His Aunt Maggie had watched a coworker's daughter a few times who thought she WAS Elsa because they both had blonde hair.
Then, while he didn't think he'd get cold, he still wanted to look the part so he got all bundled up - coat, hat, gloves, the works, and he headed out onto the school grounds, appreciating the way the sound of crunching snow under his boots.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Paige was sitting on her bed knitting when an owl pecked on her window. She looked up from her work. She had started knitting a while ago, and she wanted to practice. She was using the only colors she had. Gray, white, and pink. Not too bad. She slowly got up and walked to the window. She opened it and she was it by a sudden rush if cold. "Woo!" The owl hopped in and Paige shut the door. She took the letter from the owl. The owl seemed to be a school owl.Wonder who its from.
She opened the letter. It was from Simon. He said to wear warm clothes and to build a snowman. He knew her so well! She smiled and turned to the owl. "Thanks." She opened the window and the owl flew of. Paige opened her luggage. What could she wear on a cold day like this? Long sleeve, sweater, coat, hat, snow pants, and snow boots. She yanked up her sipper. She tugged on her boots.
Running outside in the snow, Paige could see Simon. "Hey!" She waved. When she ran up next to hmm she stopped to catch her breath. "So Anna, I brought some things for our snowman." She smiled at her own joke and looked at him to see if he knew what frozen even was.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Meeting up with @Paige Chase
Would the school owl be reliable? It wasn't so much that he doubted them, but he just didn't know how it worked. At breakfast, there was a large owl delivery to the students at Hogwarts - sometimes from their families and friends back home, sometimes from students they met that were at different wizarding schools, sometimes it was publications, magazines, or newspapers that they subscribed to, and other times it was items they ordered over catalog.
But could he really do what he did? Drop off the letter after supper and hope that it would be delivered when the owl flew off? He was at least glad he knew where the Owlery was - that was one thing he knew for certain. So Simon stood out in the cold, feeling the breeze brush against his face and loving every minute of it but also wondering if his friend would be there that evening of if she wouldn't even get the message til the next morning. But it wasn't all too long until he saw a figure heading towards him and it didn't take too long until he figured the silhouette to be Paige's.
"I never get to be Elsa," he muttered but then smiled because he was joking and he was glad that she got her reference. Then, he quickly felt the need to defend himself as to why he, an eleven year old boy, knew of it. "My Aunt Maggie watches this girl Ava on a regular basis who is simply OBSESSED. The girl can't possibly think of hardly anything else in a day and it's been like that for years. Anyway," now that he had explained himself..."isn't this wonderful?" he asked, speaking of the snow and outdoors in general.

Paige nodded. "Yes. It is." She looked around for a while. "Oh, hey. I'm surprised you're out. I never see you outside in the day." It was most likely because everyone was covered up. It was also snowing, so there wasn't much sun. It was still great. Paige opened her bag and took out some things. Hats, scarves, buttons, bowties, and mittens. She took out the scarf she had been working on before the owl came. "I made this. It's a scarf! I think?" It looked messed up. Eh. Whatever. She rubbed her hands together. "Okay, let's do this." She rolled the snow together until it was big enough to roll around on the ground.
There. The first part was done. "Have you ever done this before?" Paige had a couple of times, but she didn't know if Simon has. The next part was done. Paige patted it together. "Simon, can you look for long sticks, two of them?" She looked around for some more snow, that seemed strong. This was fun. Really really fun. Paige took out a tiny top hat. She put it on the head. It slid off. "Ugh." She took more snow and shaped it on top of the head. She put the hat on the snow."there." It stayed.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Searching for branches under the instruction of @Paige Chase
"No. I've had snowball fights and that but we don't get a huge amount in London," and he didn't really travel much to have been anywhere else where they got more snowfall. "But I've seen it in movies and such," so the basic idea wasn't foreign to him and the way Paige was rolling large snowballs and putting them together made absolutely sense. "But let's just hope being here at a magical school doesn't yield us with our own Frosty or Olaf." While that would be somewhat amusing, he wasn't sure he was mentally prepared for anything of that nature.
Paige was doing most of the work but he did come to help her with picking up the one large snowball and bringing int atop the other. She then instructed him to go find some sticks for the arms and while the sky was darkening due to the late evening, he could see just fine. He headed from the clearing and over to a grove of trees to look for some fallen ones.
Simon appreciated the world around him so he didn't think to look up high at the branches to break some off. No, that wouldn't be kind to that tree that was just trying to grow and exist in the world anything else. He only looked below and in the snow for branches that had already fallen. He moved his boots around in the snow, partially because he was on the stick search, but also partially because it was fun to move snow around!
He found a few smaller ones that would work if their snowman was a six inches tall but he needed something bigger so the search continued on. When he finally found one that seemed perfect, he was curious on whether there would be another nearby and again, moved the snow away to clear it aside. It wasn't long before he found another part of a branch that would make a good counterpart to the one arm he already had.
"You do this rather quickly," he complimented her. She was even putting the hat on the snowman's head as he came back. Simon then slowly pressed the one twig into one side of the snowman and the other in the other side. This guy was looking pretty good.
"He's got to be one of the best snowman on the Hogwarts grounds," he said. "Homemade scarf and all."

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Paige beamed at Simon. Then quick as a flash, she scooped up a HUGE ball of snow and threw it at him. She had practice with quick reflexes back at home. Living with a family of pranksters is not fun. It's a tradition for Her dad to come at the kids when they are not looking and throw them into the pool. Clothes and all. Of course, this year the tradition would be broken. Her dad left. And it was Paige's mom's turn to have them for Christmas and Summer.
Running as fast as she could she jumped behind a huge pile of snow, her base. She looked for sticks and stuck them to the pile of snow. She grabbed one of the scarfs from her bag and tied it to the giant stick. She threw a scarf at Simon. "You need a base too! First-person to steal the other person's flag wins! Loser has to take the other person out to lunch!" She hid behind her hill. " I'll try and go easy on you, but going easy isn't in my dictionary!"
She wondered if Simon would accept the challenge and if he had experience with snowball fights. Paige did. She was the reigning champion.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Snowball fight time with @Paige Chase
Sure, Simon had participated in what he THOUGHT was a snowball fight. Maybe it was just the actual act of throwing snowballs - where one person picked up some snow, formed it into a ball, and tossed it at another. He had even been involved in such an activity as multiple people throwing multiple snowballs.
But this? A sort of basecamp along with a flag, stealing a flag all while being under attack/attacking the other with snowballs? This was new to him. Maybe this is how people did snowball fights in Hampshire where Paige was from. Maybe this is how everyone had a snowball fight when it wasn't rushed, on their way home from somewhere in the evening -which had been the only time he had participated.
This is where it was a shame having something like his genetic condition which prevented him from going out in the sunlight. Most snowball fights happened in the early morning hours or even mid afternoon - either when his friends first woke to see an unusually heavy snowfall in London or maybe after getting energized from lunchtime and would warm up after with their afternoon tea.
No matter, Paige just threw him right into it so ready or not, here it was. The snowball fight was upon him. He took hold of the stick that she had wrapped the scarf around and placed it into the heap of snow she built up for him. He packed on some more just to keep it a bit more stable and then placed his flag ontop.
Then, even though she might be more skilled and experienced with the art of snowball making, Simon certainly had something to his advantage without even being aware of it - his strength. With barely any trouble, he could take some snow and make a snowball from it in no time. He was also slightly faster in his movements, in his reflexes, all something that was just in his nature. He then planned out his strategy - he would try and hit her with as many snowballs as possible to make her retreat so that he could advance and take her flag. He began, snowball after snowball.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
"Ah!" Paige started throwing snowballs at the stick holding Simon's flag. She knew what she had to do. She then took more snowballs and started throwing them as hard as she can at Simon. He didn't seem to notice her plan, but he was advancing. He was strong. Paige had to win! Mainly because she didn't know any good places for lunch. She was glad for the extra layers of clothes. She made a huge snowball, and threw it at Simon's legs.
She started making more and more snowballs. She threw them non stop. She felt a snowball hit her face. It was cold. It knocked her over. She jumped back up wiping her nose. She was so cold, she would probably feel the pain later if any damage was made by the ball of ice. She had learned the hard way to not let anything distract you. Luckily Simon wasn't ready for her plan. She leaned forward, and counted to herself. She jumped over to wall of snow and slammed a giant snowball on Simon's head. She ran to his side and started at the stick holding the flag. With numb fingers and hard snow, she was tugging. It would have been harder if she hadn't weakened it. She tugged away.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Faking death because of @Paige Chase
She was much more skilled and experienced in making snowballs and was able to make them much more quickly than he could. He also was trying to make sure his weren’t packed too hard because he didn’t want to hurt her. All his life Simon had been just a little stronger than most and well, Paige was a petite girl so he didn’t want to cause her any harm.
In fact it may have been the snowball that hit her face that was his downfall. Simon didn’t mean to throw it there but she was so quick that one movement changed the course of the snowball and no longer was it traveling to her arm, to hit just at the shoulder, but went right against the side of her face. Simon winced a little and was about to call out and ask if she was okay but this was war.
No, actually he saw her persevere and keep going and that’s how he knew she was okay. Over the snow wall she went, closer and closer. Snowball after snowball. Some of the snow hit him and in the face and he had to wipe away the wet ice and when his vision was clear again there she was with the flag.
“Noooooo,” he groaned in a teasing manner. “Noooo. I’m too young. My wife. My kids. ...They need me...” and then he fell in the soft snow, clutching onto his side and trying to create quite the dramatic death scene.
Still. Absolutely motionless.
She was going to have to take it as it was. The boy had only been in one play at school back in London and that had been The Sound of Music. There were songs about bedtime. No death scenes.

Paige giggles and shook her head. She put on her her silly fancy voice. She put her hand to her forehead. "Deareth friend, I never got to tell you!" She went back to her normal voice and grinned evily. "I brought this bag of lemon drops, but sense your dead, I suppose I have to eat them myself." She sighed dramatically. "Oh, and you have to take me to lunch. "
She enjoyed being with Simon. He really was quite the funny one. You know you have a good friend when they have a good sense of humor. And acting skills. That was always a plus. Simon was also very strong, yet gentle. He would never mean to hurt anyone. She reached out her hand to help Simon up. She wouldn't be much help, but it was the thought that counts, regardless right? After gathering all her things and looking at the snowman one more time, she turned to Simon. "C'mon lets go inside. I'm turning into a Paige-sicle." She could no longer feel her fingers. Or her nose. Or her toes. A new fresh coat of snow was starting to fall. She was looking forward to some hot cocoa right now.
