An awkward Christmas Reopened

I ran past my family and a complaining Natalie. I was to excited to slow down. My mom called after me several times. I burst into the house like a bat out of hell. I was so excited! Christmas with my best friend, (Who I may or may not have a crush on.) I found the kitchen, it was HUGE! I quickly got stuff out to start a baking spree. ´Chocolate chips... Chocolate chips... AHA! Chocolate chips!´ I pulled them down and started making cookie dough, humming along to the Green Day music from my head phones. I was smiling. This place was amazing! A huge kitchen, multiple rooms, it was perfect for the holidays. I pulled my brown hair back and the red streak decorated the side of my head. Before I knew it I was singing along to Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. ¨I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known! Don't know where it goes, but its only me and I walk alone~¨ My singing turned to humming as I started shaping my cookies like anything that resembled Christmas. I knew Natalia and Mom would find me any moment now, considering baking was my thing in the family, my dad wasn't here, sadly. He and mom had gotten a divorce. But that was ok, it was Christmas, I need not worry about all of that. It was a good day, it was snowing, reminding me of when Paige and I first met. It was freezing. And it was amazing.

Harmony was shaken awake rather roughly by her younger brother, Arthur. "Wake up! Wake up, Harmy! We're at your friend's house!"
"Hmm, that's nice." Murmured Harmony, who was still half asleep. After a few seconds of thinking about her brother's words, her eyes snapped open. "Wait, what do you mean, 'my friend'? You know that I was only invited over by Paige for the holidays and..." Harmony trailed off and the realization struck her. "Oh no. Oh no no no no." Harmony clambered out of the car and immediately winced. She had a knot in her neck from her sleeping position. She hurried to find her mom, who was unloading the luggage out of the back with Harmony's dad. "Mom! Mom why are we at Paige's house? Didn't you listen to me when I told you what happened earlier in the year?" Harmony wasn't mad. She had been wanting to talk to Paige ever since she got on the train back home, but she didn't have the guts. She wanted to talk to her more than anything, but she was nervous about seeing her. She didn't know how Paige would react. "Sweetie, I did hear you. But you need this." Was all that Harmony got from her mom. Harmony went back to the open car door to find Arthur still watching his movie. Looking closer, she saw that he was watching Scooby Doo. Harmony grabbed her backpack and took her phone out and put it into the pocket of the royal blue hoodie that she was wearing. She then shouldered the backpack and got Arthur's attention. As he was putting his tablet away, Harmony saw that her mom was just about to knock on the door. Harmony scrambled inside the car and told her brother that he could get back to his video. It was mostly so that Arthur wouldn't give away where she was. Harmony became more and more nervous as she heard her mom knock on the door.

Paige heard the door open and close. She rushed downstairs and saw her friend, Natalie. Natalie had already started rolling the dough and humming to the Christmas music. Paige ran as fast as she can, nearly tripped on the luggage in the hallway, and nearly knocked over Natalie's dad. She could feel how awkward it was. Paige's divorced mom, talking to Natalie's divorced dad. She ran past Natalia. She ran into the kitchen yelling, "NATALIEEEEEE!" She hugged her friend from behind.

" I'm so glad you guys could make it!" Paige really WAS happy. She had started dancing to the music with her little brother, who was excited because Paige was. She pulled Natalie's arms to see the room she would be staying in.
Paige opened the door with a 'tada!'. Paige smiled. "You'll be sharing with your sister." Paige knew they didn't get along, so she was going to try and work something out with her mom. She showed Natalie the girls room upstairs, but she said only her friend Simon would be allowed because he was coming too.

Paige showed Natalie her room, thankful it was clean.

She was very proud of it, for she had designed it. Just then, she heard s knock. She realized it was night already. Her mom opened the door to see a redhead woman there. funny... She looks a lot like- HARMONY?!

"Harmony!" Her mom called. Harmony peaked out of the car and saw her mom waving at her to come over. Harmony shook her head forcefully. All of a sudden, Harmony was pushed out of the car. "Arthur!" Harmony accused. "Go talk to her. She's your friend." "I know that! But I'm not her friend! she told me herself!" Harmony dearly hoped that their voices weren't carrying to the house. "But you want to be friends again. That's why you wear the bracelet isn't it?" Harmony looked down at the bracelet around her wrist. How did he know that? Harmony took a deep breath and almost broke down in tears again. Arthur came forward and hugged Harmony. Harmony looked up at the house to find her mother's heart broken stare. "Ok. Ok I'll do it, Arthur." Harmony decides. She put her hood up over her head and shouldered her backpack again, she had taken it off when the door had opened, and slowly made her way from the car to her mom and the accusing glare of Paige. She couldn't see Paige yet, and she was glad that she couldn't, otherwise she might start crying again. When she finally made it to her mom, she stopped and began to examine her shoes. It was going to be a long break.

"Aunt Maggie, can't I go by myself?" he asked, huffing a little because she never was like this before! Hell, he had gone on the Underground alone for the first time when he was seven! There really was no reason she had to come along to Hampshire, a mere hour and a half train ride from London. The route alone was easy and there weren't a lot of tricky exchanges.

She gasped at him in shock. "Well, Spiteful Simon, are you...ashamed of me?!" but she smiled, knowing that wasn't the case. Correction - she smiled, not caring if that were the case. Maggie Kincaid thought she was just so gosh darn adorable and well, she kind of was. Not that it wasn't a pain to her nephew at times.

Simon stared at her. She had done this since he could ever remember...often pairing his name with some kind of S adjective and making it like a nickname. Silly Simon, Stressed Simon, Sweet Simon... Again, her attempt at adorable.

"I was invited. The invitation said Kincaid FAMILY and last I knew, Smug Simon, I - Maggie Kincaid - was part of this Kincaid family," and she paused to look at herself in the mirror to check her hair and the way her hat looked. Perfect.

"Besides, I'm curious to see some more magical people and how they do magical things in their magical homes," she said. Simon just looked at her blankly again. "Paige is muggleborn, Aunt Maggie. There won't be...." but she came over and placed a hat upon his head and pulled it down. "Then there will be cookies. Even more reason to go." She smiled and Simon laughed.

It was a losing battle and he knew it. He pulled up the hood on his coat and out the two left from their townhome in London. They would make the venture to the nearest Underground Station where they'd change lines, head to a train station, and take that into Hampshire. They arrived at the Whitchurch Railway Station and from there headed to the white cottage where the Chase Family lived. Maggie seemed rather impressed by the large front porch and marveled over it while Simon knocked.

I went back to the kitchen to finish with my cookies. Which I had been so rudely dragged away from my baking project, I was avoiding the crowd. I was never much of a people person so I stayed to myself. I could hear my mom and dad fighting in another room. I threw a cookie cutter across the large kitchen, sinking to the ground against the warm oven that I had pre heating. ´Why cant they get along!!´ Hot tears slid down my face. I was crying hard, the yelling got louder, more tears slipped down my face. ´Stop... Please...´ I thought. But it wasn't happening. The yelling match continued, I stayed in the kitchen, my head buried in my knees so my crying was muffled, so the world couldn't hear me, I wanted to disappear from the house, into the empty blackness I saw. It was peaceful in the dark. Natalia was blowing up my phone, I shut it off. ´Lord, I want to become invisible.´/i] I heard the fighting topic turn to me, I hated this, I didn't want to be the topic anymore. Dad wanted me in Gryffindor... But I didn't want to be there, I am a Slytherin. More tears slid down my face, my small frame shaking from the stress. I hated being here, I wanted to go back to Hogwarts.

Paige walked over and hugged Natalie. They stayed there until Natalie calmed down. She knew the feeling. Honest.

FLASH BACK:
Paige sat up in her bed. This was before she the Hogwarts year started but after she got her letter. She was very thirsty. She got up, and opened her door gently. She grabbed a flashlight and made her way downstairs. She filled her cup with milk,and made her way upstairs. She heard something from her parents room and she couldn't help hut stop and listen. Gently she pressed her ear against the door.
"I don't want my daughter leaving!"
"OUR daughter!"
"I don't want Paige going to some random school!"
"Its not a random school! Do you know how lucky we are?!"
"I am proud of Paige! BUT! I DONT FEEL lucky when my daughter is leaving!"
"OUR!!"
"OH SHUT UP!"
Paige walked away, wanting to hear no more. A couple of days later, her parents filed a divorce.

So it WAS her fault. But now her friend needed her. "Its okay." Once Natalie was okay, Paige walked with her to say hi to Harmony's little brother and just glance at Harmony. Her mother made her show Harmony her room. "Moooom! Why can't YOU?" In the end, she had too.


"Give her the third one!!" This made Paige angry. She was going to give that to Natalie because it was the best one.

Paige's mother opened up the front door to the Chase home and smiled kindly to Simon, knowing who he must be. Paige had told him at least that she had invited friends and he was the only male of the group. Her eyes watched him, sitting on him a little longer. Sometimes it seemed that others did that when it came to first meeting him, like they were wondering why he seemed so built for his age or maybe it was the slight paleness. He never really knew exactly why but he smiled back.

Then he watched as Paige's mom looked to his Aunt Maggie and she seemed confused about the association between the two. Simon looked older than eleven and Aunt Maggie certainly didn't look an age to be his mother. "Ms. Chase?" he asked because he knew it wasn't good to make the assumption that it was her. "I'm Simon Kincaid and this is my Aunt Maggie." His aunt extended out her hand and shook her hand in a customary greeting and stated how lovely it was for her to invite them.

They walked inside where his aunt began looking around at all the space. One didn't get this sort of space in a household in London...at least not without being a multimillionaire which she certainly wasn't - yet they were well to do enough. "Oh it smells lovely in here!" Maggie said, smelling the cookies baking. She smiled big at Simon because it did smell divine but she knew he wouldn't agree. And he didn't.

Harmony continued to look at her shoes until she heard her brother call out, "Look, Harmy! It's your friend!" Harmony opened her mouth, took a breath, and closed it. She looked up to see Paige glaring at her. Harmony hoped that the tear tracks had gone from her face. She looked back down at her shoes. "Hi! I'm Jack!" Harmony looked up and saw a boy that looked younger than Paige. Arthur introduced himself and ran off to play with Jack.
Paige's mom told Paige to show Harmony her room. This made Harmony uncomfortable. Paige got annoyed at that, which didn't help Harmony's emotions. When Paige finally gave in, her mom told her to give her the third one. This made Paige mad. "But I was going to give that one to Natalie!" "I-It's ok. I don't n-need to take that bedroom if Paige doesn't w-want that. I'm ok with whatever though." "Nonsense, dear. Paige." Paige's mom said. Harmony looked at her mom with a 'please don't let me go' sort of look, and was met with a heart broken look from her mom. Harmony broke her gaze as her vision began to become blurry.
