Did We Bargain for This?
Private: @Edward Brackett
Date: 14th December 2020
Time: Around midnight
Katherine had always liked her own space and time to be by herself and just think. It wasn't directly connected, but even as a child, another parent had asked her mum why Kat was so quiet. One of her few golden moments, her mum had answered: "That's just the way she is." At least that's what she had been told.
So, while coming to Hogwarts had been a blessing for her in regards to getting to be away from her mother, and magic - hello! magic! -, she really did not appreciate the dormitory-style housing conditions. She hated that she could never be totally sure of her privacy, or its length. She considered herself to be a top-class introvert, and this - this wasn't okay.
She hated feeling like she was expected to talk, or be constantly nice or in a 'good' mood. She hated the noise. Back at home, Kat had had her own room before starting to share with her growing little brother, but at least she was comfortable around him, even if he was annoying sometimes! She didn't feel like she needed to pretend with him. At all.
Damn this.
This evening had been one where she really wanted peace and quiet and alone, and her nerves had been set on edge thanks to another first-year's ingracious snoring. Katherine had gone down to the Common Room, but had decided not to stay due to some second-year whose name she'd forgotten telling her the portraits reported any forbidden activity if awakened. With the lightest possible feet and fingers, she managed to get out of the Common Room.
When thinking of where professors were least likely to patrol in the castle, she suspected the toilets. At first she went to the girls' lavatory just one floor beneath (she was wary of walking on the Grand Staircase for too long), then grew restless.
Toilets weren't her first choice for relaxation, but here she was. In a lavatory she'd never been in before, though she probably had seen the door to it a few times. From her first step across the threshold, Kat didn't like the place. It looked broken and more disgusting the more she took it all in.
It was... cold as well, though she didn't see any open windows. Eerily dark. She was a Gryffindor; her pupils were dilated to big black holes and hairs raised themselves stiff on her neck. Nope. This wasn't the place.
Thump, thump
She whirled around, towards the footsteps coming from the direction she'd entered, eyes vaguely catching a figure of roughly her height.
"Jesus!"
