Meeting with @Alexa Mackenzie

Henry just entered the great hall as he looked around for a seat, the second year first thought about finding a seat among his fellow housemates so he search the table for a friendly face; Nick, Michael, Cash, or even Amara but couldn't find any so he hoisted his messager type bag on his shoulder and dressed in his uniform he started to walk toward the hufflepuff table in search of his best friend or another friend when he noticed a owl finding toward him and landed on the end of the slytherin table near him.

Henry took the letter which turned out to be a note from Alexa so he thought of a close friend, Henry read the note rather quickly then searched his bag for some ink and his quill to write a reply to her in the back of the note ~

Dear Alexa,

I would love to play a game of wizard chess with you today after class! My brother gave me his over the holiday so I'll bring that to courtyard later today! I can't wait to play and meet you there, see you later then Alexa.

Once he was finished and placed his ink and quill neatly back inside his messager type bag, Henry gave the owl the note and watched him fly off before taking a piece of toast and running out of the hall.

After classes that day, Henry changed out of his robes and into his causal outfit before grabbing his wizard chess set from his brother and setting it inside his messager type bag. He then ran from his common room almost with his orange cat; Loki by his side until they reach the courtyard. Once Henry would get there, he would look for Alexa and sadly didn't spot her so he found a place under a tree in the courtyard and took in the chess set and begun setting it up before he took off and laid his messager type bag next to him while Loki sat watching him set up the board.

Alexa drummed her fingers impatiently on the Hufflepuff table at breakfast, wondering when the owls would come. As she finally took a bite of her food, a great horde of owls came swooping into the Great Hall, each landing near a student, sometimes in their breakfast. She smiled to herself. Henry should be getting her note, soon.

She couldn’t see over at the Slytherin table from here, but suddenly an owl winged its way from that direction, and landed (or rather, skidded to a stop amidst the food, spilling end up turning things everywhere) in front of her, and held out its leg importantly. She hadn’t known she had chosen such a clumsy owl.

She quickly read Henry’s note, and stuffed it in her bag with the rest of today’s class materials. After breakfast, the day couldn’t go quickly enough. As soon as her last class finished, Alexa raced to her common room, and then into her dorm, changing out of her robes and into something warm and comfortable: they were going to be out in the snow, after all!

Leaving her bag on her bed, she flew out of the common room and down the corridors and stairs until she reached the entry to the courtyard, where she slowed to a brisk walk. She saw him sitting under a tree with the chessboard and Loki, and approached, smiling broadly.

“Hey!” She called from across the courtyard and jogged the rest of the way toward Henry. She plunked herself down crosslegged on the other side of the board from him, and smiled into his blue eyes. “It’s good to see you outside of class again,” she said. “I’m so ready for this game!” She offered her hand to Loki to sniff.

Henry looked up to the sound of a familiar voice when he saw the vibrant red hair dancing in the glow of the sun matched with the bright green eyes that belonged to one; Alexa Mackenzie. The twelve year old only met her in the beginning of their second year but he felt as if their relationship grew tremendously and was close enough to call her a friend not to mention he enjoyed her company and found that the two share multiple common interests that only deepened the liking that Henry had for her.

"Hey!" Henry spoke quite excited to see the hufflepuff before continuing " it's great to see you to, I been anxious to play with you since this summer holiday. I'm glad my brother gave me his set just fair warning the pieces may shout advice at you but just ignore them since their really not as helpful as they may seem," Henry smiled at her before going back to setting out the pieces when his cat bounded forward and rubbed against Alexa but still not purring.

The cat however was still glad to see the girl and Loki looked at her with his amber like eyes before settling down between the two in a seat position eyes going back toward the chess board. Henry then placed each king at their spot before looking up at Alexa and saying " white or back?"

Alexa was amazed at how comfortable she was with Henry, considering that they had only met a few times. But each time they had found they had much in common: they had similar interests, and enjoyed many of the same activities. It was easy to call him a friend, and a good one, at that! She played with the idea in her mind of someday being more than a friend Henry, but she didn’t hang her hopes on it, in case it didn’t happen. No matter what, he was a good friend to have.

As Loki acknowledged her and then continued to watch the board, she stroked him as Henry spoke. She laughed at what he said. “It’s so strange to have pieces giving me advice; I still have yet to get used to it!” She looked at the board intently, where Henry was just setting up the last pieces. They fidgeted on their squares, ready for action! She smiled again.

When Henry asked whether she would like to be white or black, she said, “Why don’t we flip a coin?” She pulled a spare knut out of her pocket, and balanced it on her thumb. “Tails,” she called, and flipped the coin into the air. She caught it with the same hand and slapped it onto the back of her opposite hand, before revealing it. “Oh, it’s yours, heads! So you get to pick.” She pocketed the coin and smiled at him again.

A smile as well as a slight laugh escaped from Henry when he heard Alexa's comment before he would say " my brother and I switch colors quite offended when we play and so they know his strategies and all which is why they think they know better and shout out advice," Henry jokingly rolled his eyes at the pieces before nodding toward her in agreement of flipping a coin as Loki watched the coin flipped through the air and almost listened to her next words since he turned to look at Henry.

Henry would hand the red head the white piece as he spoke " I'll take black then which means you go first," smiling as he placed his king down and looked back at Alexa waiting for her to move as he spoke " so how have you been Alexa? Any holiday plans or anything," as he remembered that she was on the hufflepuff dueling team like he was on the slytherin team. As Henry rather accidentally looked into Alexa's bright green eyes waiting for her response, Loki say between then and looked quite informative like he understood the two in a way or had his own ideas of the two in a way.

Alexa grinned well Henry explained the reasoning behind the chess pieces shouting out their ideas, breaking out into outright laughter at the end of it. She laughed pretty hard, clutching her side, and shook her head in embarrassment as she tried to get her breath back.

“Sorry about that,” she said, still giggling a little. “Something about that just struck my funny bone, I guess,” she added with a smile. “Maybe the pieces like your brother better than you,” she gently teased, smiling the whole while.

Alexa watched Loki out of the corner of her eye as she flipped a coin, noticing that he watched it very carefully. There was something about this cat that was highly unusual. He was extremely attentive to his and Henry’s surroundings; more so than regular cats Alexa had seen before. It made her heart lurch slightly, thinking about other cats. It reminded her of Molly, the little brown tabby that had stayed with the farm when her parents had decided to sell it. And that of course led her to think sadly about her horse, Blossom, who wasn’t even her horse anymore. Even her three wonderful dogs would be staying on the farm. Suddenly, sitting in the middle of the courtyard with her friend Henry, Alexa felt overwhelmed by sadness for a moment. She knew it showed on her face, and so she pushed it away as hard as she could and turned a tight smile back at Henry. But it didn’t reach her eyes this time, like all her other smiles.

Henry took black, which means Alexa would go first. She moved her pawn to e4, a simple yet standard opening move. She looked back up at Henry, glad for the distraction of this game and his friendship. He asked her some questions, and she smiled tiredly. “It’s been a little rough. What with my family and all, but I’ll get used to it.” She smiled more bravely now. "How have you been doing?" She asked.

“My holiday plans involve going to Diagon Alley to get a pet rat finally!” She said with a sense of triumph and excitement. “I think I’m going to get a gray one; they are the cutest to me! But I will have to see about their personalities first. What are you doing for Christmas break?”

"I'm sure they do since for a few months they got to sit on a shelf getting lazy and collecting dust," Henry replied with a laugh as he brush the falling strands of hair out of his eyes to watch as Alexa moved her pawn to e4 which in turn made him chuckle a bit.

"Sorry about that just the two difference in sized chess is the pieces come alive so you can tell them where they have to go," Henry spoke before eyeing the pieces and almost going over strategy before he finally spoke " pawn to b4," which in turn the pawn moved on it's own to b4 where it came to life and started practicing it's stance.

Loki continued to watched the two play while his tail flicker just a bit as Henry replied to Alexa, " I hope your family is alright Alexa or at least for things to get better for you," Henry smiled at her a bit before continuing " I'm fine but your getting your rat this Christmas holiday? Have any names in mind and does that mean our competition can start in January?" Smiling a bit still he enjoyed her company rather fondly before saying again " nothing much, just probably visiting my best friend in Christmas and probably nothing more."

Alexa heard Henry chuckle when she moved her first pawn, and she immediately realized her mistake, blushing. This was a wizard’s chess! You could tell the pieces what to do, and they would do it (hopefully!). She looked up in Henry’s smiling face and couldn’t help but smiling as well in response, in spite of her embarrassment. He explained the difference between Muggle chests and wizard chess, before giving an example with his own move.

Alexa immediately responded by moving a knight out onto the board, threatening his pawn. She did this by asking the knight to move to a certain square on the board, and though he turned and tried to give her advice, she shook her head and waved her hand forward. Seeming to roll his tiny eyes, the piece complied. Alexa smiled as she watched the knight make his way to the desired square, somewhat grumpily.

She glanced over and saw Loki avidly watching the board, as the pieces moved across it. She smiled slightly. He looked like he wanted to play as well. Her mind on Loki, Henry’s next statement took her by surprise as she continued to play in response to his latest move. “Thanks Henry. I think I’m getting used to the idea of them being separated now. The divorce goes through next week, during break, actually…” She frowned slightly. “I can only hope that they will be happier.” Shaking off the gloom, Alexa asked, "And how is your family doing?"

Alexa laughed. “I’m thinking Rascal for a name, but we’ll see.” She frowned at his latest move and thought for a minute before responding with one of her own. The pieces were still hurling advice at her, but she ignored them. “And that competition can definitely start in January!” Alexis smiled. It was so easy to talk to Henry, to hang out with Henry, probably because they had so much in common. It certainly didn’t hurt things that he was very cute. Alexa blushed at her own thought.

When he mentioned visiting his best friend, she smiled. “And who would that be?” She asked. She wondered who Henry considered his best friend. Hers was definitely Alina.

Henry watched as Alexa moved her knight to a spot that threaten his pawn as his eyes scanned over the board, Henry listened to her before nodding with a smile and saying " it still must be hard for you Alexa and if you need anyone to talk to just know that you can always talk to me," Henry smiled at her and looked in to her bright green eyes before back at the board as he passed over her own question with his words, " their fine I guess, my father doesn't send me owls but he never been parent of the year so. But my brother sends me owls every week so."

Moving pass the thought Henry told his bishop time move to a spot that would directly affect Alexa's castle but for the time being it threaten a pawn however the piece seemed to mutter under its breath while moving. Loki stretched out and laid down while continuing to watch the two while Henry replied to Alexa "Rascle is bloody adorable for a name and definitely the competition will start in January then," giving his cat a quick smile before turning back to Alexa with even a bigger smile on his face as he spoke " my best friend is Logan Baird. You might know her, she's also a hufflepuff and on the dueling team, uh Alina is your best friend right?"
