Spending an afternoon at the library and soon to encounter @Ruby Red
Whenever students got free time, it seemed most often that they talked of meeting up in the Courtyard, on the Grounds of the Castle, or sometimes at The Great Lake. Those locations weren't a possibility for Simon, at least not for long and during the daylight hours. So he found comfort among the bound pages of the countless number of books in the Library at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Before this school year, he had attended some rather nice schools, each with their own Library but they all paled in comparison to that of Hogwarts'. His local library was Kensington Central Library and while it itself was opened by the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1960, it too paled in comparison to that of Hogwarts'.
What all of those other libraries had were fantasy sections, full of stories with elements such as trolls, nymphs, sirens, mermaids, witches, werewolves, unicorns, and vampires. Here at Hogwarts there were volumes of books on each of those subjects, apparently NON-FICTION in every sense.
Yes, it was a wondrous place and most often Simon Kincaid could be found there, having an inner struggle on whether to read one of his normal classics that he was so used to, or whether he should partake in one of the books pertaining more to the magical word in which he had recently entered.
That particular afternoon he sat at one of the warm wooden tables, a couple of books sprawled out. Today's subject matter of curiosity was werewolves. Apparently they were real! He wondered if he ever would meet one and if so, what that would be like.

Whenever Ruby had free time, she would always spend it in the library. Before attending Hogwarts,
the library was like a second home to her. She loved learning about magic and mythical creatures and reading fantasy. Learning magic was one of her biggest dreams, and she was surprised when she got to go to Hogwarts! And what a large library they had!She was used to small ones, just a few shelves full of books on fantasy and mystery, horror and
comedy. Ever since she could read, she begged to be among the books, reading as much as she could. She learned a lot that way, learning more about fantasy than anyone in her class. She preferred books to the company of others because she had her sister, Violet. But at Hogwarts, she decided to try and find some friends. Ruby loved wandering among the bookshelves, scanning the spines and reading any that piqued
her curiosity. That afternoon, she decided to read books on some of her childhood magical creatures. As she wandered among the shelves, she discovered that much of those were real, although some were a little changed! She decided to read more on them, but she didn't know what.

Randomly talking to the girl in the library, @Ruby Red
The library was at relatively low capacity at that particular time, as there were no big assignments assigned yet for students to research and it was a fairly decent day so those that could were out enjoying the sunshine. He glanced up as a girl wandered along the shelves in the Magical Creatures section. "So apparently werewolves can go to Hogwarts and probably are in some of our classes. You could even be one for all I know," he smiled kindly to her, not caring if she was! "But what about trolls and nymphs, pixies and banshees, vampires and giants. Do they go to school here too?"
It was a question he just randomly threw out at her and maybe shouldn't have done so, but still he thought perhaps it would be easier to ask her if she knew the answer than to spend a good bit of time trying to research it himself and still maybe not come up with the answer.
Unfortunately Hogwarts didn't have Google and laptops where he could look this sort of thing up and there was no specific information in any of these books about the werewolf population of Hogwarts. "You'll have to forgive me. This whole magic thing is still pretty new to me and I'm still trying to get it all to sink in. Sometimes I think it's got to be some really long dream and I'm bound to eventually wake up. Maybe you should take a really heavy book and hit me with it. See if that wakes me up."

Ruby smiled back at the boy. "Don't feel bad, I'm pretty new to all of this too. I don't think I'm a werewolf, but I'll have to see next full moon!" She smiled again at the boy before glancing outside, thinking for a second before replying. "That's actually a pretty cool fact, about werewolves attending Hogwarts, but maybe trolls, nymphs, pixies, banshees, vampires and giants might be a little, um, less human? I'm not sure if that's the correct term or if I'm offending them, but, again, I'm still kind of new to magic and stuff." She sighed a little. "I agree, it doesn't really seem real, that we're here. I mean, before I discovered I had magic, I was living a normal, magic-free life with my parents and sister. And now, to me at least, it feels like it will all be gone in a blink. But it's not, and we're here, going to learn about magic and magical animals and probably other stuff! Oh, I'm Ruby, by the way, and I'm a female first year Slytherin." She held her books to her chest, her shyness creeping back in. "I'm sorry if I bored you with all my talking, normally I'm much quieter!"

Introductions and trying to figure out magical creatures with @Ruby Red
"Talk away," he encouraged her, "I don't mind," and he gave her a kind smile to back up his statement. He really didn't mind. It wasn't as if he was trying to get classwork done or something and besides, he sort of initiated the conversation. If anything, it was he that was glad she didn't seem to mind the intrution onto her time.
"I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid. First Year, Hufflepuff. I guess we're the goody-goods of the school or something," he shrugged. He didn't mind though, it rather fit his demeanor anyway.
"And yeah, you're probably right about all that other stuff but it makes me wonder where they draw the line. Maybe something like pixies have less intelligence or something, and maybe trolls are too angry?" But then again, wouldn't werewolves be too violent at least on the night of the full moon?
"I wonder what happens around here on a full moon. I mean, they wouldn't allow werewolves to just roam around and possibly harm others. Maybe that's really why this school has dungeons. Then again, I've heard that the dungeons are where your house's common room and dormitories are so..." so that was out, unless all werewolves fell into the Slytherin house.
Certainly if vampires attended Hogwarts, they'd all be placed there.

"It's nice to meet you Simon!" Ruby smiled at him. "Yes, my house's dormitories are in the dungeons, but our common room is hidden, which I think gives us a bit more protection." She thought for a minute before saying,
"I guess on a full moon, the rest of the school goes about like normal and the werewolves make a plan with the Headmaster about what to do. Maybe there is a potion they can take or a safe-haven where they can stay until the night is over. I don't think that the dungeons would be a reasonable place when they are transformed, that might pose danger to students and to themselves. When they are human, they don't pose any danger and then they can make plans to not harm themselves and others." She thought for a second.
"I think the line is whether or not they have the ability to learn and do magic, or if they pose an unsolvable danger to others. Trolls would probably just cause chaos, along with pixies." And banshees, vampires giants, and trolls would be to dangerous to staff and students. Ruby thought to herself. I wonder what does happen on a full moon to werewolves at Hogwarts? Well, they probably get help from the staff or the Headmaster.

Asking questions to @Ruby Red
Simon closed the book that was in front of him on werewolves. The girl with him was most likely right and now he was determined that instead of just reading about werewolves, maybe he'd try and meet one. If they were among the student population, maybe he could even become friends with one! That would be amazing - being friends with a magical sort of creature other than someone that was pure human!
"There's so much here to take in, you know?" he admitted. "It's a little overwhelming. I find myself here in the library quite often to find answer to things that I think will just come in time. I find it crazy that this whole entire world, this sort of existence of people that can do magic and all these things are real and to think that I'm part of it! I'm still trying to get that to set in."
"Anyway, before all this, tell me about yourself Ruby. You said before this you had a magic free life with your parents and sister. Where're you from? Is your sister older or younger? What're your parents like?" He wasn't trying to give her the third degree or anything but rather just wanted to get to know her a little better.

Ruby smiled a little before saying, "I am from London, England, and before coming here I lived with my non-magical family. As far as I know, I am the first witch in my family. My sister is about a year older than me, and she is almost the exact opposite of me. She would much prefer the woods with friends than being in a library, which I personally cannot understand. I mean, for me, characters and creatures in books I've read have come alive, and I'm never really alone as long as I'm reading with them." She smiled at Simon.
"For the most part, my parents had no knowledge that magic even existed before me. I did a family history project a few years ago, nothing strange happened on either side of my family. They are fully supporting me, though, even though this has come as a pretty large shock! So far, the only people who know are my parents and sister, we all agreed that it would be best to keep the fact that I attend a magical school hidden from everyone else. My aunts and uncles and cousins would probably be freaked out, and magic is supposed to be hidden from the rest of the population, right? What about you, your family?"

Talking with a fellow Londoner, @Ruby Red
“Also from London,” he smiled, glad that there was a fellow Londoner there. “South Kensington area. Always lived there. “No siblings here. I’m the one and only. Live with my twenty-five year old aunt. She’s the best,” he threw in that part because most felt obligated to say some sort of ‘I’m sorry’ for his situation but that truly wasn’t the case. He was the luckiest ever to have his Aunt Maggie.
“I won’t lie. ...Get a little homesick at times. Never been this far or for this long.” He didn’t even attend summer camp or sports camp during the summers like some of his friends had. “But we write each other a lot. I’ll be fine. It’s just an adjustment, you know?” She probably knew.
And maybe it was worse for Ruby. He had his aunt that he missed and his friends whereas she had her mum, her dad, her sister, and friends. Still, Hogwarts so far had been an amazing adjustment and he was grateful that by whatever stroke of luck that he got to be one of the few that experienced it. It was something that he hoped not to take for granted and wanted to learn all he could about it - thus being in the library on this particular day.

Ruby nodded. "I agree, being away from home is kind of a large adjustment. My parents always made sure me and my sister were always together without them, and we spent a lot of time together as a family. I've never been to a summer camp without one of my parents, if you can believe it." Some might call them overprotective, but that's how they show their love. She added in her thoughts. They have always been watching over me and my sis, trying to make sure we learn while being safe
"Surprisingly, they were kind of excited that I was going alone. In any other condition they would have been actively voicing their concerns. But I guess this time, they knew it was for the best?" She shrugged. "Either that or it was magic, which wouldn't surprise me. If it was the first option, they were probably reassured by my promises to write and come home for the holidays." So far, Hogwarts has been an amazing experience, I wouldn't change it for the world. Ruby thought to herself. And I'll try and fit all of this into a letter, which will probably be hard. Hopefully my letters will help them wait until Christmas, and answer a lot of questions they may have. I'm really excited to learn more about this world!
