"Geez, calm down, man." He shot a slightly concerned, weirded stare at @Dmitri Jones, though Andrew kept his annoyance to a simmer, not aiming to become the next target of Diffindo that the Duelling Captain had unleashed at the wall in order to intimidate Gaiz Toa.

Hearing the cry of Incendio, Andrew barely had time to spin a glance over at @Robert Toukmond before his eyes caught the spout of bright, searing orange. A yelp of surprise caught in his throat, and Andrew quickly jumped back from the flame that started lapping at one corner of the picture frame. Hopefully those that jumped into action before him would be able to put the fire out.

Wide-eyed with shock, Andrew whipped around to direct his glare at Robert. "What are you doing?" He shouted in disbelief, not forgetting Dmitri with a hardened glance as well. "We can't be vandalizing school property!"

Verbal was one thing, but physical violence was absolutely uncalled for! These were Hogwarts paintings after all, and if the students damaged them, well… Andrew didn't want to think about what kind of punishment that would be.

"All right." He recollected his focus. "Paran Taja. We need to find him." Forget who was right or wrong; he didn't care about the paintings' squabble. The words Gaiz Toa said about Paran Taja sounded vaguely familiar to the "Call me by my full name, if you need me" ghost knight, though it didn't seem likely that the ghost could also be the painted savior of Denbora.

"Kitty! Star!" Glancing around for the cat, Andrew would bend down to speak to it. "Do you know where Paran Taja is, kitty?" If the cat could lead them to where Laiks Denbora and Gaiz Toa were, then surely the creature would know where the missing link of the triangle was?

Although Toa seemed to have some issues going on regarding his angry temperament and rather short fuse, Tina had to give it to him for answering her questions so well. Perhaps that was just her natural charm and charisma, that she was able to converse so easily with murderous portraits. Through the occasional, overly-defensive shouts came rather useful titbits of information; such as Giselle's whereabouts - "Turn down the next corridor to the right," she repeated to herself - and that the hero that would save the woman-thieving Laiks was none other Paran Taja. Apparently they had to call his name out. "Didn't someone try that already though...?" Tina asked Kara, thinking she'd know more than her. Sure enough, just a moment later, a booming voice, that was so loud it was almost painful to her ears, resounded throughout the hollow corridors, calling out to the supposed hero.

As expected, there was no response, aside from the ghostly echoes that called back from the far walls. Tina felt herself physically deflate. At what point did she stop believing this was a fun scavenger hunt set up by the professors? She couldn't remember. Now that she thought of it, however, where even were the professors? Tina peered around. She vaguely recalled seeing the librarian and her astronomy professor outside the costume party at some point, but other than that, they were lost in terms of authority figures. Had someone taken the adults away, she wondered meekly.

She didn't have much time to think on this before more worrying things were on the group's collective plate. One especially trigger-happy Ravenclaw - dressed in a costume that was just as silly as hers - had shot a sprightly jet of fire from his wand directly at Toa, setting his painted home ablaze. The man immediately let out a blood-curdling scream, which Tina mirrored in in a higher octave. "AHHHHHH! FIRE!" Toa darted across the invisible barrier into the painting that sat next-door, whilst Tina flailed about, desperately blowing on the magical flames, of course to no avail. Kara was quick to try and solve this, resourceful as ever, casting a spell that Tina wasn't too familiar with in an attempt to put the sizzling painting out, and chewing the Ravenclaw as she did so.

Meanwhile, Scarlett had decided she was going to use this situation to her advantage, which made the Hufflepuff none too happy. This was more than enough fire. "I bet that belongs to his girlfriend!" Tina yelled, just about resisting the urge to grab the other girls wand out of her hand (before she could do anything stupid) by patting her hair down so that the ends wouldn't fry. Speaking of his girlfriend... Tina shot out of the corridor, mentally going over the directions. Down the next corridor to the right. "Miss Giselle! Can you tell your boyfriend to stop being such a... GRRR!" she shouted as she went, hoping the portrait might hear her prematurely.

Callista furrowed her brows slightly, still worried about Henry [Knight]. Although he didn't seem bothered, there were little things that she was acutely aware of - his hand through his hair, the tapping on his right leg, the repetition of me - that made her concerned. But it was clear that he didn't want to be bothered, so Callista just nodded her head. "There's a lot of people here," she remarked softly.

As Henry chimed in, Callista's defensiveness flowed away like water down a drain. She let her wand hang at her side. "Sorry, I'm... I guess you could say on edge," Callista said with an apologetic smile. She turned her gaze to the other girl [Kara Capricorn]'s hand anxiously.
If Henry's spell succeeded:
Her hand seemed to be okay with the bandages, which made Callista relieved. Even though she was still a little put off by the older girl, she was still a Hufflepuff... and she didn't want anyone getting hurt. Any more than they already had, anyway.
If Henry's spell does not succeed:
"Is your hand okay?" she asked worriedly. She didn't know any healing spells, although she would like to. They were mostly for the older students, anyway. (The professors probably didn't want 11-year-olds to mess with people's injuries.) Ferula, Episky, Reparifors... They were all third year and up spells. "I'm sorry, I don't know any healing spells right now..."
What had Henry called her again? Kara? Yes, that's right. Soon, there was an overwhelming amount of people focused on the small group of first-years.

One of the older girls [Anastasia Beckett] approached them and chewing Robert out for setting the painting on fire. Callista furrowed her brows at the older girl's statement. The older girl made her uneasy, so all she said quietly was, "I thought paintings reflected what they were like when they were alive?" So it was perfectly plausible that Gaiz Toa would attack Laiks Denbora if they quarreled while they were alive...

Another boy [Andrew Vance] glared at Robert and scolded him for vandalizing school property. Then again, people here dueled for pleasure and played on broomsticks high up in the air, so it didn't seem like Hogwarts would be very worried about on painting being slightly burned. She figured with the enchantments that were cast, the fire would have died away by now.

Callista knew that everyone was concerned with Robert not her, but still - being next to the middle of the spotlight was uncomfortable. I probably shouldn't have spoken up in the first place. What does Robert and Henry think of me now? Why am I thinking this; it doesn't matter what they think of you - am I speaking in third person now?

As she attempted to pull herself out of the circle of thoughts, Callista's glossed-over eyes cleared, and she was aware that she was doing the same thing Henry had - she was tapping her fingers unconsciously. The only difference was that she was tapping hers on her neck, but her legs were a perfectly viable place as well. Another slight furrow of her eyebrows, which she quickly tried to clear. She made an effort to let down her hand.

It's not up to me to poke and prod at his feelings - he clearly doesn't want to let on. Which... isn't good for his mental health, but then again, how am I different? Besides, he has plenty of other friends to talk to. And how is this even relevant to the mystery, which is why I'm here in the middle of a crowd? Also, what are those lights and why were people following them?

Speaking of the mystery, that girl from before [Martyna Romero] is running off again. Something about Giselle? That's right - Toa had told us where Giselle's painting was - it was... down the corridor? Right? In all the confusion, Callista had forgotten. She - mentally - kicked herself for forgetting. It was a good idea, and Callista was half tempted to just run after the other girl and escape the scrutiny of the crowd, but something kept her glued to where she was, her hand now tapping her leg unconsciously.

Well, that wasn't what Alexander was expecting to hear. He thought that maybe the man would have denied it, or tried to argue more about it, but he actually admitted he attacked the other man in the painting, and he sounded proud of it as well.

Part of Alexander admired him for that, he was sure of his actions and was ready to face the consequences, but another part of him was still incredibly annoyed with him. He quickly noticed the heart shaped pendant that the man was wearing, but decided not to comment on it; He couldn't help but roll his eyes when the guy started talking about Giselle as if she was some kind of property that he owned. "I'm pretty sure Giselle can choose who to be with; you shouldn't talk about her as if she was your property-"

His speech however got cut short by some boy that had decided to set the painting on fire. Lydia had told him that the school seemed to have an affinity with the element, but he wasn't expecting the students to just randomly start setting thing aflame. Without thinking too much about what he was doing, but acting on his instinct, he took out his wand and pointed it towards the flames. "Extinguo!" he said, concentrating as much as he could on the spell casting.

Whether the spell succeeded or not, he would then turn towards his friends Romeo and Hanzo, following the direction they were looking in. "Hum?" he asked, as he saw that some people were going away from the group. "I'm not too sure... there might be something going on over there, or it might be nothing," he adjusted the mask over his face before continuing. "I think I'd rather stay here for a little longer; the guy in the painting just told us he killed the other man. That was before this kid tried to set him on fire of course,"

Starlee thought she had been perfectly clear when she addressed the painting with her accusations... but... of course, he was yelling quite loudly over her so he didn't even hear her. What in the world was going on?!? Why wasn't anything she tried to do working? She put her hand up to soothe her throbbing eye. She should just give up. That's all she could do at this point.

She began to turn to head back to the masquerade, but something bright caught the corner of her eye. A boy... a boy set the painting on fire? Starlee's threat to get a professor may have gone unheard, but wasn't this taking things perhaps a bit too far?? She looked around as she saw others attempt to put the painting out, so she felt no worry in not trying to do so herself. Feeling satisfied that the rest of them could handle it, she again began to turn around to leave the group.

But she was stopped again by a strange floating candle in front of her. What... what was this doing here? It was quite a ways away from the great hall, could it be trying to tell her something? She leaned close to it and said "What do you want, candle? Are you trying to show me something about this incident? Lead the way!" she watched, wondering if anything would happen, and desperately hoping she could learn something useful from it. She didn't know much about magical candles, but there had to be a reason it was there.

With every moment that painfully ground on, Hanzo felt himself slipping, falling further into the depths of his own insecurity, his own strangling fear. Because this mystery was, in its purest form, suffocating, the unsettling aura surrounding his senses like a dense fog, a gas even, choking him from the inside out and leaving him dizzy, unsteady, unsure of his own ability to breathe. He wasn’t a coward, he’d never been a coward when it came to facing his adversities, his proverbial giants, whether they be bullies, classwork, a leadership position on the Durmstrang Quidditch Team – but this wasn’t a giant. This was a shadow, a danger he couldn’t see nor touch, but he could feel it in the very pits of his soul, his existence. It shook him to his core. Tears pricked at the edges of his vision, his lip wobbling in the slightest as he glanced around the corridors he treaded through silently, his idle curiosity doing nothing to stop the progression of fear from entering his demeanor and poisoning his mind. He willed his emotions down, however – he couldn’t cry, he wouldn’t cry, not right now. Not even if the walls of his mind were dripping with a thick, deep crimson, not even if the sight of the bleeding, dying man was forever imprinted in his mind like a tattoo. Not even if he felt filthy for gazing upon such a morbid image, not even if he was only thirteen and witnessing mutilation for the first time. He wouldn’t cry, because he wasn’t here for himself.

He was here for Romeo. And he would walk through hell before he gave into his own self-deprecating emotions.

He would follow his friends like a sad puppy, his once luminous and energetic demeanor shrinking with every step he took, his hands shaking a little more, his voice growing a little quieter, his eyes growing a little more desperate. He hadn’t spoken, hadn’t contributed to his friends’ search for answers, for minutes. His use was slowly wearing away. Yet, not even this revelation could shock him into action – perhaps then, that meant he was along for the ride, only present to give his mates the emotional support they required to journey on through the school. He would do his best to hide his discomfort from his friends, then, making careful work to trail mere inches behind Romeo and Alec, wiping the sweat gathered at his brow and trying to find a better place to focus his eyes than the tiles below his feet. Close enough to step on his first-year friend’s heels but far away enough to easily hide his features from them all the same. He’d never been a good actor, it wasn’t exactly insider information. However, if this weren’t enough, he felt close – to snapping, that was, fading into that dangerous persona that had kidnapped his consciousness so acutely during the summer games. The person he feared the most. No, he had to be strong for Romeo, he reminded himself quickly. My friend wanted an adventure, so I will give him just that. Nonetheless, such a decision would fail to keep him from clutching his wand with white knuckles, his head bowed low and his eyes darting out in a look akin to desperation. The faster they solved this thing, the faster they could return to the ballroom and forget this had ever happened.

He would continue to follow Romeo up until the taller abruptly stopped – frightening Hanzo, who lost his balance and fell straight onto his backside to avoid running into his friend. Thank Merlin for thick robes, the ungraceful movement had been almost inaudible. He would shortly push himself back up, amending his robes and adjusting his mask as to admire the settings he found himself in. So… this is where Romeo had spent the beginning of his first year? It was nice, admittingly, as the hallway alone was a lot cozier than their place at Durmstrang. Even so, it didn’t exactly feel like home. Did Romeo ever feel like that about Durmstrang? He couldn’t help but wonder. After all, it wasn’t his first school. Such an ideal tugged his lips into a frown, his robed arms coming to wrap around his midsection in an effort to bring warmth to the icy feeling that had just attacked his chest. He wouldn’t dwell on this long, however, for his idle eyes had caught another sight – a sketchpad, lying on the floor nearby, its messy pages open and writings displayed to the world. Is that… a Quidditch Strategy? His curiosity piqued, he took the pad into his hands, flipping it closed and skimming for a name. Rafael D’Spacito. Was that the guy Romeo’s twin had been going on about? Well, he’s gotta be a moron for leaving his strategies out, the younger thought with a wary smile. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, then.

However, before he could entertain this idea for much longer, a commotion had erupted nearby, boys and girls alike startling into action at the sound of a spell being cast. The sound had the Norwegian’s head snapping to the side, crystalline blue pupils shocked with pure fear as he unknowingly stuffed the sketchpad into his pocket, every muscle in his body coming to a shuddering stop as he gazed upon the tongues of fire now emanating from a nearby portrait. Oh, Merlin, not another injured soul. And he knew, he knew the rational response would have been to panic. Hide. Feel the urge to cry hit stronger than it had before. Yet… he didn’t feel sad, he didn’t feel scared. No, this was something else, something much darker. Was this what they had been reduced to? Violence? Hanzo felt it stirring inside of him – the last cords of his sanity being pulled taut, to the brink of collapse, the very feeling sending a splitting headache through his head and causing him to whine in a low voice. No, they – this couldn’t be happening again. Flashes of the Durmstrang Game littered his vision once more, and for a moment, he held his breath, trying to conceal the fear and desperation that slowly leaked from his heart into the pits of his stomach. Turning to unchecked rage with every drop of emotion. Suddenly, it became too much, and a hand flew up to his forehead, a breath sucked from the open air as a last attempt to fix his shattered tranquility. It was a failure. It was too much. This – this was too much, he had to do something before –

Before the flames were all that registered in his vision.

Alas, it was too late, he had officially fucking snapped. The changes in his demeanor were visibly, painfully noticeable – his deep blue eyes, once wide and shot through with a sense of fear and uneasiness, were now poisoned with more hate and enmity than he had ever expressed before in his right state of mind. His lips were downturned in a deep sneer, parted just enough to let a sharp, livid breath escape his throat, before he ground his teeth, the words already dancing on his lips. He wasn’t small anymore, his shoulders straightened out in a wide angle and legs parted just enough to give him the stability he’d previously lacked. His knuckles were white, but this time, his wand wasn’t pointed at the floor. He’d already located his poor target – a Hogwarts student, if his accent had been anything to go by, not that it mattered all that much, because he would feel pain no matter what school he hailed from. He needed this boy to feel pain, the same pain that the bloody man had felt, the same pain that he had felt as a child. And he would. He would feel pain, if Hanzo had any sort of say in things – his stance was perfect, as it had been in every one of the classes he’d attended this far, the syllables of the spell rolling off his tongue in the most refined tone he could muster. His voice was soft, but it was far from passive. It was angry. No, it was livid. And it wanted blood.

The moment Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin heard the painting confess, a little fire of rage lit inside her chest. "Do you- Do you have any idea what you've done?!" she gasped, all of Gaiz's romantic problems forgotten as her voice rose and slipped into French. "Do you have any idea what the heck you've done to that poor guy downstairs?!" Cassie pointed angrily at the stairs. "He is lying there, covered in blood, all because of- WHAT THE-" The painting suddenly lit up, the canvas engulfed in a trail of flickering orange flames. Automatically, the Beauxbatons girl backed away from the painting, raising a hand to shield herself from the flames.

"Oh God," she murmured to herself. Where were the fire alarms? Where was the organised fire drill? Oh, right... This was a magic school. No electricity. No safety procedures either, it seemed. "Oh God, please help us, please help us," her lips moved almost soundlessly, so quiet that no-one would have been able to hear her. Suddenly snapping back up, she turned to Scarlett. "Quick! Scar, what's the one for putting out fires? It's somethin' to do with extinguishing... Ex... Extinguo!" With the last word, she thrust her wand in the direction fo the flames. "Extinguo, extinguo, extinguo!" Please help me get this right...

Whether the muggleborn's spell had worked or not, Cassie's fury immediately turned towards the boy who had set the painting alight. "You idiot!" she told him angrily, practically yelling at this point. "You- you- you-" Cassie Heather had no idea what to say. She just had to get the point across. "He could've DIED!"

Not that anyone else seemed to care - none of the other students, of any school, had tried the Extinguishing Charm. And even though Cassie had promised the poor man downstairs that she would get revenge on his attacker, now she just didn't know what to do. She spun around on the spot, wordless with worry and confusion, and saw Scarlett threatening to burn the other- "Scar!!" the older girl protested, hurrying over and glaring at Gaiz, completely ignoring the painting's other occupant. Cassie pointed an accusing figure at him. "You're an idiot, and a criminal, and probably deserve to burn up and have everyone forget about you so you just be grateful that I tried/managed to put your painting out. You're also incredibly stupid to think that anyone'd want to go to a stupid frickin' ball with you after you practically murdered their boyfriend." Cassie's hand gripped her wand as though trying to remember a particularly difficult and horrible spell. "Because people fall out of love sometimes, and love other people, and no-one cares! No-one apart from you even frickin'' cares!" Hand falling limply to her side, Cassie finished with a weak, "The best thing you can do to make it up to her - and him, though I bet you don't care - is to go fix up the poor dude."

Opeila was not quite aware that the fourth year had been close enough to hear her comment on his spell. Not that it embarassed her, it didn't even make her uncomfortable even. She meant every word of it and the way the boy went on, insulted her intellect, insulted Percival's voice and emphasized how difficult the spell had been, Opeila was very much switching between amusement and annoyance.

How insecure did this boy have to be to feel the need to talk himself up like that? Didn't he feel the slightest bit embarassed about himself? Because that was all Opeila could feel why listening. Embarassment in behalf of him.

"Alright. I guess there is a bit of a misunderstanding going on.", she told him with a friendly smile. "Don't worry, I know what you casted that spell for, in fact I wasn't even calling your spell rubbish, but your behaviour. Who do you think you are, casting spells on people without their consent? Excuse me, but I will call everyone, who behaves like rubbish, out on it."

Her voice lost the friendliness, got firmer with her last sentences. She would not be talked to that way.
"And instead of snapping at everything and everyone like a cornered dog, because your spell, that you casted on people without much of a warning, didn't work the way you hoped it to, maybe you should at least consider the mere possibility that you screwed up like everyone does sometimes, oh superior fourth year, so suck it up and cry me a river. Making mistakes is nothing bad, except if you make a fuss about it like you're doing it right now. Now excuse us."

Still holding on to Percival's hand, Opeila made her way over to the painting... which was on fire. "Are you kidding me? What idiot is destroying our clues?", she asked no one really, instead pointed her wand at the painting. "Revelio!" There would be at least five extinguishing spells the next moment... hopefully, so what good did another one.

Her eyes wandered on the painting. Weird, weird indeed…and suddenly the chocolate brown gaze stopped. What…what was that? She put an effort in sotting it again. Rubbing her eyes slightly, Lindsey made her eyes wide open. No, she wasn’t dreaming. She had saw something. Something she was searching. Shoes.

“Ey, Wyatt.” she nudged the boy beside her a little. “I see something in the painting…” she lifted her right arm and pointed at it. “Can…can you see it? There is a pair of shoes. Newly polished shoes and placed neatly. And I suspect, they are dancing shoes…but I don’t know what they mean.” Her soft voice faded in the air. What could them mean? Exactly what she had thought? Dancing to death? She shook her head slightly. No, it couldn’t be…maybe they were no use.

And that was when the painting started burning. Someone had caused a fire. Being alarmed, Lindsey looked straight at the burning painting. She shrugged. The person who did this must be a huge idiot and impetuous brat. They were destroying their clues. She wished to confirm what she had seen just now again, but, it was gone now. If there were not wis ones who tried to settle everything down, she perceived that they were going to fail this hunt. “Idiot. Setting this on fire.” she remarked.

But still, she gazed into the flames. Maybe something was still remaining there? Not being destroyed, or not being destroyed yet? She wasn’t very sure if she could successfully found something she was in favor of, but maybe trying was better than not trying. Hopefully she could get some useful information…either on the half burnt painting, or on the wall behind.

The Ilvermony pupil remembered it all right, but the Hufflepuff mentioned something he had not realized before: that they have time until midnight. Before, he had only recognized that it turned backwards, that was all. The Belizean girl even made an allusion to the Muggle fairy tale Cinderella, "At midnight, I'll turn into a pumpkin and drive away in my glass slipper."

Being a Muggle-born, Gregorí was very familiar with the story. He therefore responded to her remark, "And that will be the end of the fairy tale." * Well, it was not exactly the correct remark if he was referring to the fairy tale only - but since they were in the middle of a hunt (Halloween game or not), it was very likely that, if she was right, everything would be stopped at midnight. It everything was not staged, then perhaps an enemy would attack at twelve. Or if this was just a game, the committee would stop everybody as the clock stroke twelve, announcing that it was getting too late to play and that nobody won the game. Either way, it did mean midnight marked the end of the hunt.

The two arrived... somewhere. It resembled a corridor, and it was filled with weird creatures - one-legged, they seemed to be - of blue and white and gray. Gregorí was not sure what he should do - he had never seen or read about them before - but Elisabeth had taken the action. The dark-haired girl tried to make the creatures familiar with her scent in a friendly way, to signal to them that she and Gregorí were not threatening them. The Mexican boy therefore waited, his wand in his left hand, ready to defend both Elisabeth and himself should her attempt failed and the creatures started attacking the two students. Really, it was not wise trying two approaches at one time as nobody had found out whether the first approach was a success. It was just like a scientific experiment.

* OOC Note: Since Elisabeth Erner quoted Princess Ann (portrayed by Audrey Hepburn) from Roman Holiday in her previous post, here I decided to have Gregorí responded with a direct quotation from Ann's ally Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck) from the same movie.
