Lunch with a Friend

"Hey Harmony. I'm SOOO sorry. But hey, I bet you can't beat me at this."Harmony turned around to see Paige looking at her with a cookie in her hand. Harmony looked at Paige in confusion as she threw it into the air and caught it in her mouth. "I am sooo sorry. I didn't mean to overreact. You still came after me and apologized when you didn't even do anything. And that" Paige threw a cookie to Harmony who caught it and looked back at Paige, still a bit confused. Harmony had no idea what was happening. She did know that food wasn't allowed in the library, so she hoped that Paige knew what she was doing. "... is how I know you're a true friend" Paige came forward and hugged Harmony. Harmony was both overjoyed at not losing her friend, no, best friend, and confused at what had just happened. "Paige. I can not breath." Harmony wheezed. Paige let go of her as Harmony said, "Ok. Two things. First, does this mean we're friends again?"Paige nodded, "And second, what just happened?" Paige started laughing which poured over into Harmony. At this point, she didn't care if they were being loud, even though she knew that she should, because she hadn't lost her best, and only, friend. Harmony pulled Paige into a hug, but this time, it wasn't as tight, and both of them were able to breath. Even though Harmony was a bit out of breath, it was because of her laughing.

It had been weeks later since Harmony and Paige had become better friends than before. Paige loved having Harmony as a friend. Everything was perfect. That alone should have made Paige suspicious.
Friday, December 11th, 2020
Today I am not hungry again. I wasn't yesterday either. At first, I thought it was something I grew into being friends with Harmony. But something is defiantly wrong. I want to eat, but it makes me feel sick. I don't want to tell Harmony and make her worried. This is my problem. Anyway, I should focus on the good things. My mom sent me an owl for Christmas break, she said that I have 2 choices. I can come home with one friend of my choice, or stay at Hogwarts. Although the thought of staying at Hogwarts is appealing, I missed my family. I owled my mom saying that I would stay at Hogwarts for the break, but will be home for Christmas Eve and Christmas. I am going to ask Harmony today.
Paige closed her notebook looking out the window. She had told Harmony she would be down in a minute. Paige didn't feel like getting out of bed at all. With sigh, she climbed out of bed and opened her luggage. Nothing seemed to reflect her mood.
She put on a pink loose fur coat over jeans and a blue shirt. It was really cold out today and Paige didn't know what to expect. She looked out at the snow-coated ground. She put on winter boots and a hat. She walked downstairs and saw Harmony sitting on the couch reading. "I'm ready Harmony. Let's get breakfast."

Harmony was sitting on a couch in the Ravenclaw common room. She was reading and braiding her hair; a habit that had now spread to when she needed something to do with her hands. Paige came down the stairs from the dorms. She had said that she would be down in a few minutes, not ten minutes, but Harmony overlooked it, seeing as she wasn't a morning person either "I'm ready, Harmony. Let's get breakfast." Paige said, coming down the stairs. "No, you mean youget breakfast. I rarely eat any breakfast. Speaking of which..." Harmony gently grabbed Paige's arm and turned her to face Harmony, asking her softly, "Paige, I'm not stupid. You haven't been eating anything. Are you really sure that you're ok?" Harmony had asked Paige if she was ok many times before. She knew that she was being annoying because she was asking so much, but, in her defense, Paige did not look well and she hadn't been eating much if any at all food lately. Harmony thought that she looked sick, but Paige said that she was fine, that she was just tired, and Harmony had no reason to think otherwise. Paige says that she's fine and that she would eat something, but she ate less than Harmony did at breakfast. The smallest piece of toast and water. Who drank water with toast? Paige stood up. "There, I ate. Can we go now? I really want to get some shopping done for my family." They started to walk out of the Great Hall. As they left the Great Hall and entered the hallway outside the Great Hall, Paige stopped so suddenly that Harmony had to sidestep to not run into her. Paige slapped her palm to her forehead."Oh yeah! My mom invited me over for Christmas Eve and Christmas. She asked me to invite you!"
Harmony was a bit hurt that Paige's mom wanted her to come over and not Paige, but she didn't let it show. "Yeah! I'd love to. Let me ask my parents first. I was planning to go home for Christmas, but I think they're understand. But also,"Harmony turned Paige to look at her again, "I'm just trying to look out for you. You've never not eaten a meal before, not counting yesterday. I'll stop if you want me to, but I'm just worried. I'm just trying to be a good friend. Is that not what you want?"Harmony thought the last sentence was a bit harsh, but she was getting annoyed at Paige for lying to her. She knew that she was not ok but, Paige wouldn't open up. Hopefully, Paige would remember what Harmony had told her a few days ago.
-FLASH BACK-
Harmony and Paige had just made up in the library after Harmony had accidently reminded Paige of a bad memory. The two girls sat back down as Harmony said, "So now that I know what you get like when you are mad, you should probably become aware of how I react when I get mad. I say whatever comes to my mind, whether good or bad. My brain sort of stops working. So, if I ever get mad and say something awful, know that I most likely don't mean it."

Paige turned around slowly. She walked back to the table and grabbed an omelet. She took it to go. She held it with a napkin and took a bite. She then turned back to Harmony and the two kept walking. Paige looked at her list. "Okay... so we have your family and mine." They were going shopping. The break had started, and they had free time. They were staying at Hogwarts, but going over to Paige's for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Paige was excited. Her family would be fascinated by the gifts. "Should we get muggle gifts or surprise them with magical items?" She knew her brother would like anything from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Their boots padded in the soft snow. Diagon Alley was far from Hogwarts, but they had so much free time. Paige didn't know what to do. They could always make things, too. Paige brought glitter, glue, paper, tin foil, hot glue, paint, scissors, tape, cardboard, clay, string, a sewing machine, fabric, fluff, beads, bows, and a lot of craft things. Paige put the list down. "Let's do this later." She finished her omelet. "lets put the list away," She put the list in her pocket. "And build a snowman!" She turned to Harmony smiling.

Paige turned around and went back into the Great Hall, leaving a very confused Harmony in the hallway. Paige came back a few minutes later with an omelet held tight in a napkin.
A few hours later, Harmony and Paige had returned to the common room with supplies to make gifts with. "Let's go make a snowman." Paige suggested. Harmony was torn between worry and amusement. Worry as she knew that the cold can make someone who is sick, more sick. But Paige insists that she's fine, so Harmony gave up and decided to let Paige do what she wanted. Amusement because she all of a sudden wanted to start singing Do You Want To Build A Snowman? from Frozen. Ok. Hold on. I'm just going to owl my parents and ask them if I can stay with you for Christmas." Harmony walked off, hoping that her worry hadn't shown on her face.
After around 10 minutes, Harmony and Paige were on their way down to the grounds to build a snowman. Harmony had used one of the school owls to ask her parents, seeing as she didn't have one of her own. Harmony saw a few other groups of kids having snowball fights, some others were making things out of snow, and others were simply talking to each other.

Paige and Harmony stared to build the snowman. When Paige had positioned the bottom part of the snowman the way that she wanted it to go, Harmony placed the middle part on. The two made the head together and put it on the top. "Top hat or winter hat?" Paige asked. "Let's do winter. I always to top hat, so this could be a fun change!" Harmony replied. Paige placed a scarf around the snowman's "neck" as Harmony placed the hat on its head. Paige put buttons on the face for eyes and then went off to look for arms. Harmony watched her as she looked. Harmony saw her reach down for a stick and then pull a plastic bag of some kind of food out of her pocket and ate a bit of it. Harmony couldn't tell what it was from the distance. Paige picked up the stick and started to come back. Harmony turned around so that it wouldn't look like she had been watching Paige. "What do you think?" Asked Paige. "It's not done yet, Paige. You can't ask me what I think of it if it isn't done!" Harmony complained in a teasing tone. Paige playfully rolled her eyes and put the arms on. She the took a carrot out of her bag and pretended like it was her nose. The pair laughed as Paige put it onto the snowman. She found some holly and tied it into a bow. She positioned it under the snowman's head. "Now I can tell you what I think! It's perfect!" Harmony said, doing a sort of twirl. As Harmony came back to face Paige, a snowball hit her right in the face. She fell to the ground with a "Woah!" She stood up and said, "Oh you're asking for it! Oh also, a little warning, my brother plays baseball, so I have pretty good aim!" Harmony made a snowball and threw it at Paige, forgetting her worries. It hit her on the left shoulder. Soon, they were having a full-on snowball fight. Soon, Harmony spotted her chance to have a laugh and snuck up behind Paige. She had a snowball in her hand and when she was right behind Paige, she stuffed the snowball down her shirt. Harmony exploded in laughter as she ran away to hide behind a tree, still laughing.

Paige screamed and jumped around on the spot as she tried to get the snow out of her shirt. Harmony stayed put behind the tree that she was hiding behind. Harmony looked around the tree as she tried to find Paige. Suddenly, Harmony felt a ball of cold fall on her head. She shook her head from side to side, trying to get the snow out of her eyes. Thankfully, none of the snow went down her back. "REVENGE HAS BEEN ACHEIVED!" Hearing that made Harmony feel better. Paige was back for now. After a bit longer of a snowball fight, the pair went inside.
When they got to the dorms, Paige took a shower and then started working by her sewing machine. Harmony started to write some poems for her family. She was just finishing her dad's, when Paige said, "It's a snowman! I think?" She added buttons and a mini top hat and then held it back up, "Tada!" She took a sip of her hot cocoa from her nightstand. "Yay! I love it! It is so cute!" Harmony went back to her poems. She sighed and looked back at her poem:
A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO REMEMBER
Through all the things that I have done,
My love for you is as bright as the sun.
I hope this makes you smile,
And when it does, I'll turn up the dial.
With Christmas here,
I have no fear,
Of you not liking this.
You are the best father,

Have a Merry Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

When Harmony sighed, Paige had asked what was wrong. Harmony had shook her head because in truth, she didn't know. Harmony watched the sun set until she heard a whoop that made her fall off the window sill that she had been sitting on. Harmony looked at Paige with a combination of what is it? and seriously?. "It's nothing, Harmony. It's nothing." Harmony got up and went to sit on her bed at the same instant that Paige clutched her stomach and ran into the bathroom. When she came back, she ate some pretzel sticks and sipped a bit of her hot cocoa. She looked at Harmony to find her standing up, arms crossed, and a raised eyebrow. "Are you going to tell me that you are fine even though you threw up or are you going to tell me the truth?" Harmony heard her words. They sounded cold and stern. Harmony had never heard the ice in her voice before and had to restrain a flinch at how cold the really were. She wanted to ask Paige what was wrong in a softer voice, but Harmony wouldn't take another lie. Her arms were crossed. Her face had a scowl written all over it. She even felt herself slipping into her anger at being lied to. This wasn't going to end well.

Harmony saw Paige flinch, but she didn't have any pity to spare at the moment. "Er...Really, Harmony." Harmony watched Paige slowly walk around her to sit down on her bed twiddling her thumbs. "I really am fine. I just...er...had to do something. Is all." She didn't meet Harmony's eyes.
"Jesus, Paige! Are you really going to lie to me again?!"
"OKAY FINE I KNOW I DID THROW UP AND I HAVE BEEN LYING BUT I JUST DON'T WANT PEOPLE WORRYING ABOUT ME THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE HAPPIEST SEASON OF ALL AND I DON"T WANT TO RUIN IT SO REALLY I SAY I'M FINE WHEN I KNOW DEEP DOWN INSIDE I'M NOT I'M SORRY!!" Paige put her face in her hands as Harmony recoiled from her sudden outburst. "Please forgive me, Harmony. I'll try and eat more. Honest. But there are some things I can keep private, okay?"
Harmony sat down on Paige's bed next to her. She put her arm around her shoulders and said "Paige, while I would like you to eat more, that's not what I'm upset about. I'm upset because you lied to me! I was just trying to be a good friend. You may not have realized it, but by saying that you were fine when your actions literally said otherwise, made me worry more than if had just told me that you weren't feeling well. I get that you don't want to spill your guts...actually, let me backtrack...I get that you don't want to use me like a dairy, but I want to be here for you. You may not have wanted to worry me, but you did. A lot! I'm perfectly fine with you not telling me everything, I just HATE being lied to! You know that! It make me feel like you don't care about me! Ok? I'm your best friend. Part of being a best friend is to trust the other person! OK?" Harmony huffed and moved over to her bed to continue her art.

Paige put her face in her hands as Harmony recoiled from her sudden outburst. "Please forgive me, Harmony. I'll try and eat more. Honest. But there are some things I can keep private, okay?"
Harmony sat down on Paige's bed next to her. She put her arm around her shoulders and said "Paige, while I would like you to eat more, that's not what I'm upset about. I'm upset because you lied to me! I was just trying to be a good friend. You may not have realized it, but by saying that you were fine when your actions literally said otherwise, made me worry more than if had just told me that you weren't feeling well. I get that you don't want to spill your guts...actually, let me backtrack...I get that you don't want to use me like a dairy, but I want to be here for you. You may not have wanted to worry me, but you did. A lot! I'm perfectly fine with you not telling me everything, I just HATE being lied to! You know that! It make me feel like you don't care about me! Ok? I'm your best friend. Part of being a best friend is to trust the other person! OK?" Harmony huffed and moved over to her bed to continue her art.
It's ok to be different as long as you embrace who you really are.
