Dorothy was born in Harrogate, York to Leah and Mark Evans. Her father, a wizard, works in the muggle studies department of the Ministry of Magic and her mother, a muggle, works as a university lecturer of mathematics. She had a generally happy childhood with plenty of friends. Spending a lot of time outdoors, she grew a love for nature and made the most of her family’s yearly caravan holidays in Wales. Two years after her birth, her younger brother Harry Evans was born, making them a close-knit family of four.

In her muggle primary school, she was a bit of an overachiever. Dorothy generally got excellent grades in subjects she enjoyed (and no doubt helped by her mothers lecturing skills as well as her fathers Ravenclaw heritage). She also learnt to play the violin in this time and was a part of the youth orchestra in her school.

Due to a mixture of her half muggle heritage and her fathers general interest surrounding muggles, Dorothy grew up living a mostly muggle life. She was aware of magic, of course and after showing signs of magic her father spent plenty of time telling her about Hogwarts and what it was like there. However, the only magic she’s ever really been exposed to is her father’s household magic for tidying, foxing etc.

Dorothy’s first instance of magic was when she was still a toddler in a highchair. Her father was busy trying to hold a phone call and feed her baby brother while her mother was cooking. This left Dorothy’s grabby hands to go unnoticed until she started crying for her drink and it floated gently across the room to land on the tray attached to her chair.

Other instances of her early magic include accidentally stopping her younger brother from hitting the floor when he fell out of the top bunk bed and a shattered bedroom window after she got particularly frustrated with a difficult violin piece.
