Hogwarts on Ice
Jake had never played ice hockey before. Actually, he'd never played any sports before. His mum and dad wouldn't have let him, but it didn't really matter since he hadn't wanted to play anyway. What was so fun about sports in the first place? He'd watched other kids playing sports before at the park, and it just always looked like a lot of running and rough-housing - two things Jake didn't like. Sometimes other kids would fall and get hurt. Then there was the horror which was Quidditch, and just watching that one made him nervous.
But he did like Ruka... and it was Ruka who had invited him and told him all about how he was going to be running the game. It seemed rude to say no, and plus, it still felt special when Ruka asked him to come do things. There were lots of kids in the school but Ruka wanted him to play. And what if Ruka didn't have enough hockyers? Then they wouldn't be able to play at all and the Gryffindor had really sounded excited.
Jake thought he had seen hockey on TV a couple times. You had to hit a flat black thing, a puck, into a goal, all while trying not to fall on the ice. At least he knew how to ice skate, a little. He had gone with his parents sometimes, even if he wasn't very good at it.
There was still one big problem though: safety. Jake's mum would have grounded him for life if he played on the ice without safety gear, but he didn't have elbow pads, knee pads, or any of the other things he was going to need. He had managed to get his hands on a helmet, but that only helped his head - and there was the whole rest of him to worry about. He had expressed his worries about getting hurt to Ruka, and the older boy had solved his problem in a way Jake never would have dreamed of.
A very puffy Hufflepuff was sat on the ground beside the lake now, as Ruka finished helping him put on his skates and tie them tight. Thanks to Ruka, all Jake's clothes were stuffed full of pillows and anything soft that could be used as bulk, so much that it was a miracle that his winter jacket had been able to close. That had taken some real tugging but somehow the zipper had made it and held. It was so much he couldn't even stand without being tugged to his feet! Now, looking a bit like a giant yellow marshmallow, Jake waddled his way towards the ice.
The little Hufflepuff cautiously wandered onto the lake, hockey stick gripped in both hands. The hockey stick was good because you could use it for balance if you felt like you were going to fall. With so much padding, Jake didn't think he'd even feel it if he did fall, but he didn't wanna test it and find out. He was excited to see that Willow was going to play with them too, but he couldn't go to his normal greeting of giving her a hug, because he was still having a bit of trouble moving and he'd probably just knock the both of them over. A quick wave would have to do.
Now there was just one last problem to solve.
"Um...How do you play hockey...?" Jake asked, raising a very puffy arm diagonally, which was just as far as he could lift it.

Armed with her huge red bobble hat and matching scarf, her black teddy coat and warm gloves Ileen arrived at the lake. She had run most of the way and her cheeks were flushed with physical exertion. Though her face was warm from the run her nose already felt like it was frozen and it matched in color with her hat and scarf. All in all, she looked a little deranged - her dark brown hair was electrically charged by the dry air and the wool of her cap and stuck stubbornly to her coat, plus she was out of breath. The cold air stung painfully in her lungs and she wiped her hair from her face to get a clearer view on the events. There were already many people here. Why was she so late again?!
It had taken her forever to find her gloves and she had had to unpack half her suitcase. But now she was there, hopefully not too late.
Granted, Ileen had already left her comfort zone twice this year by joining group activities. But as they say: of all good things, three is a charm. Besides, last year's relay race had been more fun than expected - all in all, she was more likely to be excited for muggle sports than such nonsense as Quidditch. And with Dee and Ruka it would certainly be a lot of fun. She spotted both of them and a bright smile curled the corners of her mouth.
She was excited about this! Though she hadn’t skated in years, she’d done it a few times with her dad back home and all of her memories connected to that sport were positive. She was probably not the most elegant elf on the ice, but she would probably manage to stay on her feet. The situation was different with the hockey stick. Her forehead turned into a concentrated wrinkle as her eyes fell on the sticks that were left. Hopefully someone would explain to her how to hold it or she would break someone's nose with it. Okay, granted, she hadn't looked around to see who else was there. Maybe she wouldn’t hit the wrong one…
Ileen took another deep inhale to calm down a bit, then she waved at Dee and Ruka and made her way to the old skates. She had some at her parents' house, but she hadn't packed them. These would work, too.
She quickly decided on a pair that looked suitable, sat down in the snow and exchanged her boots for them.
When she straightened up afterwards, she struggled, a bit wobbly on the blades at first, then found her balance and, with a concentrated expression on her face, stalked to the hockey sticks. Thoughtfully, she took one in her hand and looked at it critically. Well, that would certainly be fun.
Overhearing the question a boy had asked Ruka, Ileen turned around, hoping to gather some knowledge as well. “Uhm, I guess… you have to shoot the puck with the stick into the goal… somehow?” Ha. At least she knew what the Quaffle of this game was called! That was all she could contribute to this issue. A soft chuckle escaped her as she noticed the ‘protection’ the young boy had put on. Okay, if everyone was experienced as her that was probably a smart idea...

Despite Thomas’ recent infatuation with Quidditch, the ice has been a place Thomas Lestrange called home since early childhood. The boy sported one of his few prized possessions that traveled along with him from New Romney, his black rubber boots, bottomed with a oft-sharpened blade below and dark blue skate laces traveling over the top. To round out his look was a black coat and blue joggers, shoutout to Timmy Stutzle.
Thomas may have been one of the last students to arrive, but his anticipation likely surpassed the collective group. A fresh opportunity to distance himself from the year’s turmoil, and make new frie---ahh, shit. Ruka Tan aside, this group provided one questionable acquaintance after another. A pair of girls with middling dance skill. A former prefect, who was likely more inclined to cannonball into freezing water than score a hockey goal. But then there was Ruka Tan, who would provide the boy ease to bypass the other familiar faces for now.
After a robust tap on the toe of his skate boot, Thomas would rise to his feet and stride nicely around the outskirts. Unlike flying, skating came natural to him. His smooth strides hinted at a long past on various ice rinks in England, before his eventual dismissal after a series of fights in his final season. The sharp sound that sent bits of ice spraying along a crisp surface would have the boy reveling in his past, awaiting Ruka to call the group together. Thomas left the collection of sticks be for now. The boy did not care if he needed to don a goalie stick and pads, or play as a forward or defenceman. Just to be here was more than enough.

Ruka had to be honest; He had not expected people to actually show up for this silly set up of a game. He himself had never really played Ice Hockey, but everyone showing up seemed absolutely delighted at the idea of spending their day on the ice and trying not to hit each other with sticks.
The first person to show up, @Henry Knight, was someone he recognised from the Hospital Wing, a fellow duelist who was clearly intrigued by the set up and would be welcomed to the game with a smile and enthusiastic nod. This game, Ruka had decided, was for absolutely everyone, so as long as there were still spots on the team he wasn't going to turn anybody away.
Next to arrive was another familiar face. @Willow Anderson was dressed up as a cotton candy rainbow on the way to take their trusty pet unicorn for a ride, and she seemed genuinely excited, even bringing her own colour matching skates for the occasion. Ruka would offer her a smile and a wave before focusing on the next arrivals, neither of which was particularly well known to him. @Percival Gray, he believed, shared his brother's House and Year, but Ruka could not make much more of a connection to him than that, while @Kazuo Shimada was another person he remembered having approached him in the Hospital Wing. Both of them, however, seemed to have come with purpose so Ruka could only assume that his flyers had done the trick of luring people down to the lake.
Momentarily distracted by the joy he could feel at the thought that people were actually interested in the idea he had had, Ruka almost missed the arrival of @Flash Holmwood, someone he had not really expected to show up given all their past encounters, but he could feel a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he watched him hooking arms with Willow nonetheless.
Joining them not much later, was @Opeila Winters, yet another person Ruka was familiar with for various reasons that were too convoluted to think about on this day mainly meant for some relatively harmless fun.
"You're very welcome, was how he greeted @Lydia Cooper with an exaggerated bow that made him a little unsteady on the ice for a moment, but he quickly bridged the awkwardness with a delighted laugh before looking up again to see a boy... skidding onto the ice with alarming speed. It only served to increase his need to laugh, but he stifled it in favour of grabbing some skates that seemed like they could be @Heinrich Bezuidenhout's size. "Join us," he told the boy gently while handing him one of the leaflets describing the game. "It'll be fun."
With that done, he skimmed the area again, eyes sparkling delightedly as they fell on @Dealla Prince, who he had personally invited to join - despite her unwavering incapability of braking successfully - and who made him feel instantly more at ease with her presence. He offered her an enthusiastic wave, tempted to approach her for a small chat, but before he could he got distracted by the arrival of @Jake Morris, the boy, the legend, the marshmallow man. With Ruka's own help, Jake had made himself near indestructible with pillows stuffed into his clothes. It was no wonder he needed some help putting his skates on, and Ruka was happy to assist him, kneeling down on the ice to make sure Jake's laces were tightened enough before giving the little badger an encouraging and grateful pat on his puffy shoulder.
Next up was @Ileen Knight, face and winter clothes coloured in true Gryffindor honour despite not actually being a lioness. She was quick to give Jake a vaguely helpful summary of how Ice Hockey was supposed to be played, despite her difficulty in holding a stick - the broader part goes on the Ice, Ileen - and Ruka laughed lightly as he watched her awkwardly fumbling around and eventually getting a good grip on it before handing both her and Jake a leaflet to explain the rules. Not that they were actually in any way comparable to a real Ice Hockey match, but considering they were all just kids looking to let out some energy, he doubted anybody would really mind.
With eleven players already on the ice, Ruka prepared himself for a bit of a wait before anybody was going to complete the group, but instead the arrival of @Thomas Lestrange came much sooner than expected. Out of everyone who had gathered on the ice, Thomas seemed the most prepared for the game ahead, and his confident strides across the ice spoke of an amount of experience to be envied. Ruka made a note to ask Thomas for skating lessons once the game was over even if I am seemingly not his one True Love but he is lucky I don't hold grudges. For longer than three years.
This, however, was the point at which Ruka felt like he was at a bit of a loss, and there was really only one thing to do when one was at a loss: Blow the whistle.
The piercing sound would be heard across the lake, signalling to everyone that they were supposed to gather round. Once everyone had come close enough to hear what he had to say, Ruka started out with a semi-awkward Hello. Never having been the leader of events or even just involved much in groups, this role did not come naturally to him, but he managed to direct everyone to the equipment needed for the game and also letting everyone pull a piece of paper out of his red wool hat deciding their Teams and Positions. To make sure everyone was able to distinguish their opponents from their team members, Ruka had brought six pieces of cloth coloured in bright blue, which he gave to the members of Team One to accessorise whichever way they wanted to.
Once everyone had arranged their cloth to make them more distinguishable, and knew what they wanted to do, Ruka sharply blew into the whistle he had brought for the occasion again to signal everyone to get into their position.
That most kids on the frozen lake had no real experience with being on the ice was quite obvious as they all slid, skidded and wobbled into their positions. A lot of them managed to stay surprisingly steady, though almost as many were struggling, their knees shaking - Possibly due to the lack of protective gear and the fact that they were severely underdressed for the occasion - and their skates working against their movements like a stubborn broom.
Of all the people on the ice, Thomas seemed the most capable, so it begged the question what had him so distracted that the blade of one of his skates got caught in a ridge in the ice and caused him to tumble backwards to semi-gracefully land in front of his Goal. Still a bit rusty there, maybe? Careful, Tom, this is not the time to ogle all the pretty ladies!
The other team's Goalie, Opeila, suffered much the same fate. Still close to Flash and Willow, she would try to separate herself from her friends but it was like she was tripping across an invisible string that tied her and Willow together. Had they both reached out to pat each other's backs for good luck and got tangled up? Had gravity tried to pull them back together? Either way, the two girls tumbled to the ground simultaneously and Opeila only just managed to worm her way to her goal before anybody could shoot at it.
Another person struggling to keep their balance was Henry, who flailed, all attempts at keeping upright failing as he flopped down on the ice, but his failure was nothing compared to Ileen. The Slytherin girl had only just figured out how to hold her Hockey stick but, Ileen, you can't just stiffly drag it after you across the ice while you move forward! Her feet would crash into the stick's blade and - Ouch!
Stumbling across it, Ileen would fall face first. Her hands clutching at her Hockey Stick were no use as her already red nose collided with the icy surface of the lake. That was going to hurt for a while! Taken 10 Damage
Minor casualties aside, everyone else seemed to have been able to steady themselves in the position they were supposed to be in, with Dealla and Heinrich in the middle of the field and anxiously awaiting their moment to shine.
One more whistle blow, and Ruka had finally started the game by dropping the puck between the two Attack players, allowing them to start tearing each other apa - uh, gently trying to win the little black disc for their team.
Gentle really was the right word, at least on Heinrich's part. Letting the charming lady go first was really just the gentlemanly thing to do, so he did not try particularly hard to steal the puck away from Dealla, unlike the Ravenclaw girl who had decided to go for it. No mercy for the first year who was only here by accident rather than because he had actively decided to be. Give the poor boy a break next round, please!
For now, however, Dealla and her Team were in possession of the puck, which made one thing crystal clear: She had better be quick to score, or be prepared for Team Two - including her clearly very accident prone best friend Ileen - to be out for her blood.

It was kind of, okay, extremely hilarious to watch the participants slip and slide out onto the lake, half of them failing to maintain their balance, going splat. Dee was managing fine, which was maybe due to her recent practice, but either way, the sight of Thomas Lestrange on his butt was already enough to make the trip down here worthwhile. She gave him a big grin and an enthusiastic wave, fueled by her glee over his misery. "Graceful as ever!" she called.
A little more painful to her was Ileen's, uh, accident. How had she even... Oh well, she'd live.
Her own team seemed to be doing rather well, all in all, except for maybe Opeila, but Dee supposed she could also just sit in the goal, no need to move much. Dee, however, was very much looking forward to moving.
She slid forward for the kick-off - was it called that in hockey? - a little surprised when the other team sent forward their lone first year to face her. He looked... nervous, for lack of better words, so she gave him a bright smile, trying to appear calming. "Hi! I'm Dee. Don't be scared, this is going to be fun. Although we will stomp your team into the ground, sorry about that." Wow, maybe she wasn't very good at this reassuring thing, but to be fair, it didn't look like it was going to be very hard to win if half of the other team spent their time on the ground instead of their feet.
Getting into position, she adjusted her grip on the hockey stick for a moment, trying to figure out how to hold it best, then waited for Ruka's signal to start. When the whistle sounded, however, all niceties were off: First year or not, even if she'd never played this before and only knew of the rules what Ruka had told her, Dee was going all in - with resounding success, of course exactly as expected. Kind of.
Although she wasn't quite sure if it was her own incredible (never tested before) skill with the hockey stick or the fact that Heinrich barely seemed to swing his into the right direction, but it only took her about half a second to come to grips with the fact that she had, apparently, somehow, managed to get the puck, before she shot forward with a burst of speed, trying to keep the puck with her.
She still couldn't brake anywhere near reliably. Would Ruka call it a foul if she just crashed into the opposing goal along with the puck? Maybe. For a second she was tempted - it did sound fun - but she should probably try to shoot from at least some distance.

-Mentioning @Ruka Burnett-Tân , @Dealla Prince and @Heinrich Bezuidenhout -
As more people arrived, Lydia recognized some faces, one of them being the Ravenclaw Duelling Captain Dealla; the last time she had seen her was during their duel, and right now she seemed to be doing way better than then.
The sound of Ruka's whistle got her attention, so she skated over him and listened carefully to his instructions, grabbing then a hockey stick and pulling out her piece of paper with her role; attack sounded fun, definitely more active than the goalie, even though she had seen videos on the news about hockey, and for a second she almost second guessed her decision to play. Shaking her head mentally, she wrapped the bright blue cloth around her neck, like a scarf, before she skated to her position, the sound of the blades on the ice bringing back to memory all the times she used to skate with her family.
Much to her surprise, a lot of people had already fallen on the ice, but it seemed like they were basically all from the other team, so that gave Lydia a boost of confidence. Looking around to better see who her teammates were, she smiled and then glued her eyes on Dealla; she would have faced the other team in trying to get the puck first.
The feeling of the hockey stick was still weird, she wasn't used to have a stick in her hands while ice-skating, and she had to assume a position that felt a little unnatural, but she still managed; her eyes were still on the puck, and when Dealla managed to get it, she quickly looked around before deciding to tackle -was that even the right term?- the boy that had lost the puck to the Ravenclaw girl, hoping that this way Dealla would have had an easier time scoring.Action: Tackle Heinrich .

Hogwarts on Ice
Leave it to a Hogwarts’ student to organize a hockey game with physical contact permitted, and leave out the pads. No no no, wearing pads would be doing things wrong! Then again, Thomas was not surprised the boy inclined to watch things burn whilst doing a dance made this happen. And without a doubt tied with ice hockey for my one true love.
Thomas’ initial safety concerns steadily deescelated as he watched this band of misfits waddle across the ice surface. Not only would they have trouble elevating the rubber puck off the ice surface, but also to send it at the net at a decent speed. However, the sight of Miss Prince natural skating ability[aka lucky rolls] led to a disdainful glare from Lestrange, watching her maneuver around the ice and to the faceoff circle with relative ease. With her presence, his pride was at stake, starting strong would be crucial.
Thump. Thomas’s skate blade caught a rough patch of ice, the boy crumbled down in an embarrassing fall. A swift lesson that this ice surface was not cared for the way he was accustomed to back home, having taken the zambonis’ for granted. If his team were the Mighty Ducks, Thomas was assuredly Goldberg.
The boy huffed in place, firmly planted on his arse, embracing this fall for what it was. The dice’s disregard for character development aside, the boy was thankful to get the first moment of embarrassment out of the way. The nerves would now take a backseat to performance(hopefully). On cue, Dealla wasted no time chiming in, offering a cheerful wave. The boy simply smiled, perhaps a few drips of sarcasm, but mostly cordial. She’s not getting to me.
The boy ascended to one knee, attempted to use the butt of his goalie stick and press himself upward back to his feet. It was not the brightest beginning, over half of his team attempting to do the same. But the cool winter air that was contrasted with the warmth of the sun couldn’t help but force a genuine smile on his face. For the first time in his two plus years at Hogwarts, Thomas felt at home.
The puck drop left Dealla in possession, racing towards Thomas with a nose for the net. He hesitated to shout to his defenseman, as they were both still struggling to regain their footing. Instead, Thomas would focus on what was in his control. Her pace was quick, Thomas did not have the time to risk getting up and falling once again. Instead, the boy would roll on his side, retrieving his wand and pointing at the approaching Raven. "Flipendo."

Hogwarts on Ice
Ileen was too busy taking care of her own balance to spend many thoughts on the teams or the probably judging looks of mainly her own teammates or not because they are on the ground as well hehe. With a concentrated look on her face she cursed through clenched teeth as she slid around a little awkwardly on the ice. Merlin, this stick was impractical! At least the skating worked… kind of. Maybe she was still a little rusty, but it was better than expect--- Her cautiously confident thoughts were interrupted when the damn stick got between her legs.
With a shocked squeak she fell forward inelegantly, still trying to keep her balance, but no chance. She clutched her hockey stick tightly, couldn't catch herself, and therefore landed nose first on the ice. Ouch! The impact forced all the air out of her lungs and a sharp pain brought tears to her eyes as she slid penguin-style a few feet on her stomach before coming to rest.
Everything spun briefly and she blinked to regain clear vision. Her ears rang and for a second she just didn't move, waiting for the pain to subside.
Then, with a groan, she struggled into a sitting position, her cheeks flushed with shame. That must have looked pretty stupid. Well, now she knew how not to do it. Check off, move on. She even had to giggle briefly to herself as she imagined what she must have looked like.
Still holding the stick tightly, she tried to stand up again. She wouldn't give all the people on her team a reason to complain about her. Keep going!

Hogwarts on Ice
What did he expect. The boy barley spoke to anyone and actually sometimes took time to avoid others so maybe that's why he hardly knew anyone else there besides from the fact that there were five other Slytherin's there and two were in his dorm, the dorm that he actively tried to avoid so everything seemed to going great so far.... Henry did remember the gryffindor ref from the hospital wing as well as the girl who called herself Dee not like that helped the twelve year old feel less nervous or decease his anxiety actually the opposite occur as his anxiety increase and he felt like he was on the verge of having a panic attack.
When the teams and positions were given out at random by draw of a hat, Henry would give the others a small smile as he looked at his team mates. Thomas Lestrange who was the slytherin male prefect and had the position of goalie which Henry secretly wanted because he was a bit weaker than the rest and definitely knew few particular useful spells but he was a attack which increased his anxiety. Percival Gray and another boy probably a year younger were also attacks which didn't ease his nervous as he looked over to the defenders which was Ileen whom they weren't exactly friends or enemies along with another girl whom Henry didn't know so overall he didn't really know anyone on his team and didn't know the skillset of the other team which increased his anxiety.
Henry ice skated before but it definitely been a few years since he's actually been on the ice not to mention his rising anxiety so as he stepped onto the ice and slowly skated to his spot he tried to stop but sort of forgot as he leaned forward and nearly fell but luckily didn't as he let go of his breath he was holding and slowly stood only to lose his balance as he stuck his arm out to help balance himself but didn't seem to work since he fell back and landed on his buttock which had to hurt.
Henry squinted his eyes a bit as he saw more than half of his team also on the ground which only increased his anxiety that something bad will happen as he pushed his hands against the ice and carefully got up.
