It was Christmas Eve. Everyone was happy and thankful for what they have. It was a day of joy. You could hear warm laughter from each family. It was a day of gathering, people decorated their houses with beautiful lights. It was snowing yet still raining but was it for Katherine.

It was a rainy morning Katherine’s parents had just finished breakfast while she was still waking up. She wore black pants and a casual red t-shirt, it was short-sleeved and plain. She went down to the dining hall where her father was casually sitting. She had heard him talking about half-bloods and how they conceived with dirty blood.

Katherine had a sad face on, her eyes dropped down to the floor. She was sad and hurt after all she had friends who were half-bloods, she didn’t understand why he hated them so much.
She walked to one of the chairs that were tucked in the long dining table and spoke ” why do you hate them so much, what did they ever do to you they are just humans, why can’t you see them that way, why are you so blind to see”, Katherine spoke in sadness and pity for them.

Her father looked right at her and glared deeply in her eyes. He was a stoic. He learned to not feel anything towards anyone then he spoke, “they conceived with dirty blood. They are a disgrace. You’re weak. You have pity for such people, no wonder you cry and have stupid feelings for such things. Why don’t you, I don’t know, head the other way. You have much more important things to do”,

He has stopped for a few seconds then yet back to warn Katherine, “and before you try to do anything dumb with these revolting humans, you know what your consequences will be. If you do such things you better not set foot in this house and I’ll make sure of it”, Katherine had heard his words out of his mouth.

She was angry, fuming and for the first time in a long time scared. What did he mean by not set foot in this house?. Katherine had a million thoughts running in her head but yet spoke to him, ” oh you’re just evil and cold-hearted, you're cruel. You're just a monster who has no heart. You never want me to be happy”. She spoke with all her anger.

Lucian was fuming after hearing his daughter's words yet it didn’t affect him, but only managed to tick him off. He stood out of his chair and walked right in front of his daughter. Katherine had also stood in front of him. She looks at him straight in his eyes. Lucian spoke ”Haven’t I done enough for you? Haven’t I given you all? I have given you everything and yet you act like a fool! A selfish fool. Happiness is only for the weak. What have you brought Katherine but despair, weakness and complete disgrace”.

Lucian spoke with anger and yet kept a straight face. On the other hand, Katherine was broken, smashed. Her heart was smashed by her father into millions of pieces. She spoke back to him sadly. ” Fine if you don’t want me in this family, I’ll leave”, she looked down and walked past him yet facing the mansion door but still stood behind her father waiting for an apology.

All she wanted was a call. A hug from him, apologising. Lucian just scoffed yet facing the other way and spoke,” it’s not like anyone’s holding you hostage. After all, The time spent to replace you as my heir would be time better spent than to correct you, So go ahead but don’t expect a call from home”. Lucian just walked to his office not caring what his daughter did.

He meant every word he said and it didn’t break him instead he thought it was the only way to discipline Katherine. Katherine had just heard the words he spat out of his mouth, she couldn’t handle it. She just ran out and went out of the house. She was at the point where her heart was just breaking into two.

She felt it not only mentally but she felt it physically and it hurt. It hurt so much, she had to put her hand on her chest since she had no one to do it for her. She had no one to stitch up the pain. She had no one to give her a hug, a simple I love you. She tried to hold back the burning tears. She tried to hold back her scream.

She just took quick breathes and started walking, thinking she could handle this. She walked on her street-side watching all the families hanging up decorations to celebrate. She watched as they hugged each other instead of arguing, All she wanted was just a simple taste of this love, She needed someone to tell her it's all going to be okay.

She was walking but all she wanted to do was get on her knees. She was too tired. She was too tired fighting against her father. She was too tired to meet his expectations. She was human after all. She deserves happiness. She deserves love just like every human in this world. She deserved a set of arms she can turn to when she’s at her lowest.

It was killing her from inside. She had no one. Who was she going to? She knew no one. She had no one. She had no other house to go to. She had no one that would open their doors for her and accept her for the broken thing she is. Katherine was clueless to where she was going, so she just kept walking.

Hopefully she could reach a destination where nothing in this cruel world mattered. All she was, was a broken human being in need of emotions. In need of something or someone just to assure them they are worth something. It felt as if she was hanging onto something just to avoid falling.

It's like she's holding onto an edge before falling completely but sooner or later she wouldn’t be able to hold on anymore. She would slip and fall into a dark abyss without anyone grabbing her and saving her.

It had started to rain and it was raining quite heavily. Katherine couldn’t do anything about it. She had to walk in it. She had no other home where she could hide to cover from getting soaked. She was just walking and walking as if she had no control over her body. She was soaking from head to toe until she had reached a public chair.

She slowly sat on it but yet there was no cover. It was cold, she was shivering from the coldness of the air that went through her and the water that was dripping all over her. She was in a state of shock, in disbelief, she had a small feeling she was worthless but when it's said to her face by her only father was like a sledgehammer that just smashed her into pieces.

But who will pick up the pieces that were all over the place?

It was sundown everyone started entering their houses until the street was clear. Everyone was having their own celebrations with their families. But Kath was just sitting there in the rain all alone cold, shivering and in pain. The pain in her heart was getting stronger by the second. She couldn’t. It was too much.

Too much for her, for anyone. God! she was full, she needed something. She craved something, she wanted an owl to come back home, a call back from her father just trying to fix things with her. Maybe a scream to come back. A hand to hold her back from this eternal misery. A hand grabbing her back into their arms.

But no, she was all alone. No one was there to help her. Tears started filling her eyes. The pain was too much. It was aching, it was eating her alive. She just needed a way to release it. Tears kept falling one after another to the point where she was whimpering. She closed her eyes and laid back, she couldn’t handle it anymore.

It was too much. She tried taking two deep breaths but her tears weren’t helping her. It was filling her brain and heart. Until finally, she had released a scream. A scream of pain, she unleashed it for the whole world to hear. She was only human. She was only a girl. It was a scream so deafening yet so broken that it would break anyone’s heart just hearing it.

It was a call for help, it was a call to help her from her suffering. She wanted a family to love her and accept her for the little 12 year old she is. She wasn’t supposed to be a warrior trying to fight a war against her humanity and her father. She let out all her breath. She was in defeat. Tears came burning down on her cheeks.

Her hand slipped back on her chest. It was a call to help a fallen soldier from their own war. She stopped screaming and started breaking down all alone in the dark, in the rain and cold.

She had her other hand leaning on the public chair yet breaking down more and more. Her eyes were burning in pain and sorrow, in heartbreak and despair. Pain beyond belief makes you want to just give her a hug. She had nothing. No one. She was all alone in this barbaric world. She leaned her head on the chair and held herself since she had no one to do it for her.

Yet she was still whispering. She just closed her eyes yet they were still drowning in tears. A million thoughts came through her head. Like how she was worthless, alone, how she didn’t deserve happiness and how her father could replace her in a matter of seconds. On how he could disown her and wouldn’t give a single damn.

How he didn’t care for his only daughter. On how he could turn back from her. She had no choice but to obey his orders. Like a king to his subject or a dog on a leash. She had no one else. No one was there for her when she needed someone badly. She had no choice but to go back and obey his orders even though he was the very reason she was in this state.

She had just shed her last tears. She had no more. She was hurt but there weren’t enough tears for her to let out. She was just physically hurt from this. She was scarred but what option did she have?

She was numb and aching. She got up and started walking back in the rain, back to her house. She felt as if she wasn’t controlling her body, as if she was compelled to go back. She was tired and scared. She knew she would never forget this. It had triggered her that she would only trust herself since no one was by her side in this.

It was only her and no one else, her and her own demons. All she had to do was control them, fight and never stop. No one was going to fight her own wars.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest times,If one only remembers to turn on the light.
