Pericles managed to maintain a stern stance and firm expression, right until the moment their librarian set her hand on his shoulder. With a rounded stare he managed to recite what went wrong, then nodded when thanked for the information, falling mute as she healed the socked student and commandeered the situation. Or, tried to.﴾ @Robyn Finley | @Henry Knight (Charles) | @Solomon Lear | @Breana Oliveire | @Sylvain Indarys ﴿
"Is that how Hogwarts students are so well behaved? They're afraid of being reported?"
Surprise turned to indignity. Brow wrinkled, mouth quirked crooked. He couldn't resist retorting,
"Dignity is another factor. Are there no consequences for your actions where you come from?"
If he had been bewildered by Miss Finley's merciful intervention, Peri's soul essentially left his body when the headmaster joined in to further assert the adult's authority. Being a prefect wasn't always a prestigious occupation. Students didn't take easily to the idea of their equals enforcing the rules over them, and no matter how pure their efforts, it wasn't unusual for their kind to be brushed off. It was almost inevitable at this age, when many boys were all competing to be bigger than one another. This song and dance did not surprise him. What would come as a surprise was the thugs' absolute disregard for both mentors. Weary seriousness turned to sheer shock. Peri looked as though he hadn't even fathomed it possible to ignore and brush by an adult, let alone faculty. A wide-eyed glance darted towards the librarian, and briefly to Lear, silently seeing guidance. Typically, a prefect was responsible for enforcing the rules. They would reach out to a professor for help if ignored, and should they be disregarded, the headmaster would eventually be involved. It didn't typically happen all at once. Pericles enjoyed picking apart names. The ones given by the Durmstrang boy sounded impossibly American, though he hadn't watched nearly enough American films to know that for sure. He glanced towards Charles, evidently hoping he could confirm or deny this information. Were they really just walking away...?
A student scared off from the party. Brawl-glad boys and clashing egos. It had all seemed important, but in an instant, the encounter was the furthest thing from Pericles' mind. A doll was here.
He remembered falling from an acromantula's grasp in the Forbidden Forest. He was bound in webbing, unable to act, and could only watch in horror as Breana's unconscious body was clawed at by those things. He was witnessing it all over again. But they weren't in the Forest, where the Ravenclaws oughtn't have ever gone. They were in the school! Everything was happening at an impossible pace. As soon as it was out in the open, the doll tried to abscond, but Lear was about to fix everything. That's what adults did, wasn't it...? Many of Pericles' perspectives were being flipped on their heads tonight. As he watched the leonine warlock go flying into a bale of straw, he felt as though he had been Bombarda Maximad on a psychological level. Sheer horror overwhelmed him. Not only was there a hag doll in the castle, not only had it potentially just killed off a fellow eagle, but the headmaster had just exploded at a party he was supposed to be keeping safe. The boy watched in frozen terror as the armored elder collapsed. Thankfully, Willow had managed to prevent the doll's escape
Pericles' initial instinct was to run to the headmaster's aid. Yet he had no healing spells, no first-aid knowledge, no idea on how to approach his injuries. Frankly, seeing the mighty figure knocked down was mortifying. Miss Finley was there; she would help him. Whipping back around, legs seeming to operate on their own, he dropped his mask to the floor and charged towards the core of this chaos. Sylvain was already attending to the doll's victim. That just left the thing itself. Plucking a pitcher from the floating table, Peri poured the contents carelessly onto the floor, holding its lid ajar and grimacing in absolute disgust while trying to scoop up the Misfit. He took extreme care not to touch it directly in the process.

The Fall Ball (Costume Party)
As her eyes fell upon a girl lifting the table cloth of one of the snack tables, it seemed that Jess wouldn't have to scan the room for long to find something odd or dangerous. What was this girl doing? Apparently, though, she wasn't the only one interested in taking a view underneath this table, as a boy promptly walked over to the table as well and levitated it. It took Jess a moment to register what she was looking at on the now-exposed spot on the floor, and another moment longer for her to react, stumbling back until her hands hit the wall behind her.
On the floor where the table had formerly stood was a scene which seemed to Jess to be straight out of a nightmare. There was a girl lying on the floor, looking as if she was being strangled to death by... an ugly, terrifying looking doll who was somehow moving. This was not good. Jess had never exactly been a fan of the Annabelle movies, and even the Chucky trailer had always been too scary for her to even listen to. This doll, while not as scary looking as the other two tiny murderous beings, was actually real. It was real, and it was moving. It was real, and it was strangling somebody. It was real, and it was in the same room as Jess. Oh god- why had Jess come to this? Why had she been so stubborn- so stupid- as to not listen to Katrina's warnings about Hogwarts balls? The Gryffindor had told her that large gatherings never ended well, and Jess should have listened. But she hadn't, and now she was in a room with a literal murderous, living doll. The part of Jess's brain that wasn't absolutely transfixed with horror on the doll promised to herself that from now on, she would always listen to whatever advice Katrina gave her. If she survived this, that is. Gritting her teeth, Jess told her brain to shut up.
Now, it seemed that this situation was all handled, right? There were kids shooting spells at the doll from all sides now, so someone must be able to stop it, right? There! That suit of armor-wearing person could definitely stop it! Jess gasped as it became clear that said suit of armor-wearing person definitely couldn't stop it, and was instead blasted back from their own spell. Maybe the best thing to do right now was just to stay still, and hope that everything would be sorted out before the doll could notice her? But no, that required staying here, near the doll, and every one of Jess's nerves was now screaming at her to run away. That was it, then- she would escape the costume party, grab Akari from the masquerade ball and warn her of the danger, and then run away to her dormitory or somewhere else- it didn't matter where she went, really, as long as that somewhere wasn't here.
Jess had barely taken a step towards the grand doors of the rehearsal room, though, when they suddenly clanged shut. Oh god, she couldn't leave anymore. Neither could the doll. The doors were shut, and Jess was locked- no, trapped- in the room with a murderous, maniacal, magical doll. She had her wand with her, yes, but what could she really do with it to defend herself from what was clearly a magically-operated creature? Shoot sparks at it? Did it even have eyes that she could try to blind with the few Sparks Charms that she actually knew? Still, Jess took her wand out and clutched it at her side just in case, though her fist was white where she held it and her lips were trembling.

There were few words for the horror that she saw. A living doll - a horrible looking one that seemed to be hellbent on trying to hurt its owner... or this girl, even if she was not the owner. She was blissfully unaware of the existence of these dolls and so, she had no idea what she was really looking at. But it was clear that the young student was trying her best to keep this doll away from her. That much was obvious.
She heard a voice. The boy that she had seen moments before but not recognised. He spoke to her, asking her to catch the creature and to kill it. They were two very different commands. To catch something required tact and care. To kill it required destruction. Was this really a good idea? Killing something that she did not understand could have repercussions that she could not even begin to fathom right now.
He called it a Dark Misfit. Her heart pounded as her eyes quickly scanned the scene, trying to make heads or tails of this whole situation. What in Merlin's name was she supposed to do when she had no idea what the heck this thing was or what it was trying to achieve? What if she missed the doll and hit someone else? What if she accidentally put a hole in the floor or tore the ceiling down? There were too many scenarios playing out and things could definitely go wrong, and quickly.
Serena pulled her wand out of her pocket, gripping it tightly. She had to do something to catch the creature. That was the safest and best option. Never destroy something without understanding what was going on, right? She could freeze it, levitate it so it was forced to not run or perhaps flipendo it into a wall. What else? Come on Serena, think and think fast. Incendio was not an option. It was far too dangerous. The ball could light up and she was not going to risk the lives of those around her.
At least... that was the intention. Until she heard his words.
Burn it.
The order was simple. Undeniably simple. That was the funny thing about faith. Sometimes it went against all logic and it did not make any sense to you. But if you had faith in something or someone then that was enough.
Serena had faith. In Solomon Lear. Two years prior he had given her an order that saved her life. Not once but twice. It saved the lives of those around her. Knowing what she knew now, she understood the importance of his words back in the campout. He had saved her. She had no intention of killing the doll that she did not understand or using a spell that she knew would be harmful. She had not used it before, she had no intention of using it when she knew that lumos could effectively push away the darkness that haunted her.
But this was not a shadow. This was not the darkness. This was a living creature that might have been full of dark but it was not a shadow. And she was given an instruction by a man that she owed her life to on multiple occasions. She knew better than to question it. He had to know what he was doing right? Well, she was about to find out.
Raising her wand, she cast her spell without a moment's pause. Burn it was the order, she had to follow it. The Headmaster had spoken, the former Head Girl would listen, "Incendio duo!"

Charles was staring behind the three on his way to leave when the white haired boy mentioned something about finishing that later allowing Charles to snap at him " I'll be looking forward to it looney," he shot a half smile before turning to the other and mentioned something about a invent rib which caused Charles to worry later as he thought about his chances against three other Dumstrangs; odds were he didn't look that good as he spoke " I certainly would be giving you more than just an invent rib cage minion," that's what Charles thought of the two boy's or what they looked like at least; Yefim's minion.
" Your pretty stupid to me so it won't surprise me," Charles snapped back at him again before rounding on Yefim and saying " I'll see you later quitter." Charles then heard the sound of the Hogwarts student voice and spoke " don't talk to me about something that it looks like you never had," he then turned on his heel and walked out of the costume party. Yikes. This was really a shocking turn of events, as the uproar that followed the table lifting was surprisingly over-the-top. Certainly she wasn't perfectly ready to be in the eye of the public, but she wasn't that badly put together, was she? People were casting spells at her and screaming. Didn't they recognize her? Wasn't she their friend? Such betrayed, it might have shattered her frail maiden heart, if she had grown one at that point.
As she tried to flee, to find somewhere that people wouldn't judge her so harshly perhaps cry in the restroom, a popular teenage activity, she was stuck in place, unable to move her ligaments. The burlap on her arms was starting to look somewhat rosy, nearly skin-like, and the tiny fibers rose in place as though getting goosebumps all over. She was slowly changing, but she wasn't going anywhere. Luckily for her, the geezer's spell flew him across the room, but unluckily for her, the door abruptly shut. This was so scary!
All she ever wanted was to be herself... become herself. She wasn't about to just let them take all she worked for away from her, not without a fight. After all, if anyone knew Breana, they knew she was tough as nails! She would find a way, she had to!

A bale of straw is on fireThe doll will remain immobilized for 1 more round.(Guidelines)As was tradition for any Hogwarts function, things had taken a turn for the chaotic. A horrific doll had attacked Breana, dragging her beneath a table and attempting to render her unconscious. It had been foiled when Sylvain exposed it, levitating the table and tending to his fallen peer. When it ran, the librarian Robyn had used a wind spell to slam the rehearsal room's doors shut, then Willow immobilized it with a spell. It was vulnerable now, and the party planner Pericles was heading for it with a silver pitcher. But could the young host really call this as an official Hogwarts function without a little bit of fire?
Serena would inadvertently do the honors of christening it. Though the fourth-year ran the risk through her mind, she chose to follow her heart, heeding the Headmaster's words. She would try to put an end to the thing as the former monster hunter, present mentor, had bid. Her cast was immaculate. A ferocious plume of flames barreled forth flawlessly, beautiful and terrible, efficient in every way except aim. The spell blew by the doll, nothing more than a brief heat hitting the intended target. It bolted by the boy trying the capture the thing, narrowly soared above an ancient-looking armchair, and hit one of the bales of straw decorating the places with an air-shuddering whoomph. There it is.
Hufflepuff's tumultuous relationship with fire would once again rear its head. The voracious blaze built quickly, crackling as it ate away at the straw. This threat had been traded in for the other. In a mundane approach, Pericles managed to scoop the still doll into the (mostly) empty pitcher, cramming it cloak and all into the bottom. The stolen piece of clothing just might make for a decent stopper. Lidded vessel clutched tight, he had managed to secure it. Now the trouble would be keeping it that way.Reducio-This is a moderated event, please do not roll for yourself!

The Fall Ball (Costume Party)
Trepidation sat heavy as a stone in his stomach. Pericles' lip curled with revulsion while he went about trapping the tiny fiend, face stony save for those wide eyes. Its skin was- well, skin, practically not burlap at all. It looked thin and wrong, like the flesh of a plucked bird. He didn't dare touch it. Using the stolen cloak as a buffer, his wand prodded the doll deep down into the pitcher, cramming the clothing in to boot. The prefect was not necessarily the most athletically-inclined; still he held the thing tight to himself with the stance of a rugby player. Panicked thoughts buzzed in his head. A wild seeking look strayed back towards the adults in the room- the librarian and the headmaster- yet he did not cry out for their counsel. Something was sprained in his naïve heart.﴾ @Robyn Finley | @Breana Oliveire | @Sylvain Indarys | @Jess Malters ﴿
As with a child who tugs too hard upon Santa's beard, only to discover some relative hiding underneath, an illusion had been shattered. It was a difficult truth to chew, but one which all children must come to terms with in order to grow. Not a single adult was omnipotent and infallible. It was natural for any student to admire their headmaster, and of course, that would not go away after a singular mishap. Yet Pericles had placed the elder on an unrealistic pedestal. He had read his book, and quietly fan-boyed over the fact that they shared a wand wood and core, though they had never spoken one-on-one. Seeing him harmed by his own spell was nearly jarring as seeing one's parent hurt for the first time, and realizing they are not immortal. He wouldn't cry out for guidance. He had to think critically. Not all adults had all the answers, but he knew which one was right for this job.
A host must be capable of delegation. First, the blazing straw bale. "Will someone please Extinguo that?" It was an extremely simple spell, something even a first-year could pull off, so he would leave executing it to the crowd's mercy. "Syl?" he called to his fellow second-year prefect, adding immediately "Is Breana alright?" Either she was in shock, or the girl had been hurt badly. He didn't want to think too long on which one was more likely. "Miss Finley, please tell me Headmaster is still breathing." A twinge of desperate dread wavered in the lad's voice, but only for a moment. He clutched the lidded pitcher with both hands, gesturing with it as he called "I think- I think I should take this to Professor Pendrast. If you would help him and Breana..." those eyes squinted, swiveled back to Sylvain, "...could you come with me?"
Mask abandoned on the floor somewhere, Pericles looked prepared to take off on this self-appointed mission. The only things left to do was ensure nobody was dead, the adult didn't disagree with him, and he would pass the party off to a very helpful House-Elf who had volunteered to prevent anyone from leaving with Tricky Treats. In the midst of it all, he happened to make eye-contact with a partygoer dressed like an angel. The poor thing looked mortified, and rightfully so, though her expression had a shade of first Hogwarts ball newness to it. Forcing a sympathetic smile despite it all, Peri commented gently as he passed: "You're alright." Then, in an awkward attempt at being helpful, he tacked on "Happy Halloween" before moving by.

No sooner did Sylvain have his arm tucked away behind Breana's shoulders to prop her up, than the room leapt to action around him. An explosion, a gout of fire, and the rush of wind all lent themselves to the rescue mission. It was thrilling how often Hogwarts put his life in danger, though he felt Breana might not feel the same way.
It was reassuring to see that Willow had answered his plea for help, showing up just in time to freeze the doll stopping it dead in its tracks. Robyn sealed the deal by cutting off its only means of escape, which allowed Pericles to scoop it up. Regardless of their successes and failures, it filled Sylvain with confidence to witness the librarian and headmaster working with them to put a stop to the dark misfits. Though he would have been lying if he said the sight of Solomon Lear and his magnificent beard flying through the pumpkin patch didn't tickle him a little. For now he elected to keep the laughter to himself, deeming it an inside joke.
With Breana out of any immediate danger, Sylvain let the potions table come careening back down to earth like the hot plate of disaster it was. Woe was guaranteed for to those who were still between the table and the ground, and luck might perhaps belong to those who still stood within distance of the crashing beverages atop it. Whatever the effect, it was sure to amplify the chaos of this party, and this party was already on fire as it was.
Dodging one of the chocolate frogs he and Remi had let loose earlier, Sylvain gave Breana a once over, scanning to see if she had survived her encounter with the morbid animate creature. Although the rise and fall of her chest was nearly imperceptible to him, the hot sticky air coming from her nostrils amidst the pain and havoc the doll had inflicted upon her was sufficient enough evidence for him to conclude that she needed immediate magical healing but would be okay.
A satisfying but panic inducing whoomph no doubt set something all too flammable ablaze in room behind him. He had heard the similar whoomph of fire too often for a twelve year old. As Pericles called out his name, worry underlining his tone, the lad responded with a solid thumbs up held high above his head and spoke without turning. Syl's voice would be serene and unwavering, "She needs healing, but I think she's still alive." How much had things changed since the forest? Not very much if he was being honest but maybe the changes were just enough for him to make a difference this time around.
As Pericles came closer, the expertly immobilized yet eagerly fiendish plaything jailed in a silver ewer, Sylvain passed Breana over to Miss Finley as gently as possible, as he was intent on making sure to keep the girl's head up so she didn't sprain her neck like a bloody bobblehead. As he looked up to Robyn, his eyes smiled while his face grew serious. He remembered her advice, and readied himself for more trouble.
As Pericles locked eyes with Sylvain, the lad nodded to the request of his partner in crime, or rather partner in the line of duty. Was this technically kidnapping? Probably not right? Syl would follow Pericles to the dungeons if it meant having a chance at helping his classmates, but that didn't make him any less appreciative of the fact that they weren't going into the dungeons. The Defense against the Dark Arts Professor was more than a reasonable figure to turn to.
Passing by an angel with trembling lips, Sylvain pulled the last chocolate frog from out of his bag. As a tradition of sorts, he handed Jess one of his most prized possessions. Chocolate. "Think you can put out that fire?" He said pointing to the hay bale, his voice as cool as a cucumber. "Best to think later do now," he said as he passed her, grabbing the handle of the door and propping it open for Pericles to escape through. He would give her a confident smile as he held the door open, the fire glowing in his eyes.
They didn't have long before this thing wanted to play another game, and Sylvain had no intention of letting it find its next play thing. Fire or not, they needed to make a dash for the stairs.

Arissa's OutfitInteracting with: (N/A)
Mentioning: @Pericles Dralt @Solomon Lear
Being clueless was one thing, but being stupid is another. Seeing the headmaster casting Bombarda Maxima at the doll and action of the others has proved to Arissa that this scene was not a fantasy. Not an act. There's no need for her to deny it any longer.
It's a real scene. And she can't be an observer anymore. Whatever it is, she was certain that it had gotten out of hand. The raging fire was enough of a proof. She suddenly felt the urge to get out of this party, and just go to sleep. Perhaps that way she can dismiss it as a dream, or nightmare.
Despite the fact that she was standing a bit far from the main scene, her ears managed to pick up the call for help, from the older boy who had managed to stuff the troublesome doll into the pitcher before he went out. Arissa can't say she was amused at being treated for clean-up duty, but as she was practically useless during the main event itself, she'll let this one go.
The girl may not know about attacking spells much, and rarely cast such spells to avoid consequences placed on herself, but she was more than capable to cast an Extinguo to minimise the damage. If she wanted to go back to the Common Room, this fire must be gone. And she was quite sure that whatever it was that happened, nullifying the flame would not ended up with her in detention. With that she walked closer, not that close, but enough for her to aim at the fire.
"The party's over, I guess." She muttered, while pointing her wand at the raging fire, as she chanted clearly, "Extinguo."
Despite her hesitation on whether or not her effort was enough to extinguish the Incendio Duo, she still called the spell as calm as she could. Inwardly, Arissa was baffled and maybe, a bit scared. What was that doll? Was this considered as normal in Hogwarts? She remembered someone mentioned to her that life in Hogwarts was crazy, but never had she expected it to turned to this so quickly.
She was definitely doomed if that's the case.

The Fall Ball (Costume Party)

Dark, like before. Couldn't move, like before. It wasn't where she wanted to be, wasn't how she wanted her first ball to go. Didn't anyone care at all what she, Breana, wanted? What did it matter now... now that she was in darkness, surrounded by the remnants of some beverage, sticking to her brand new self-made dress. She worked so hard on making the most beautiful dress-- one that fit her personality perfectly. Did anyone even notice? Had anyone commented on how wonderful her stitching was? Of course not, they all wanted to blow things up and set things on fire.
Perhaps she would be imprisoned in darkness forever, conscious and dreaming. Dreaming of growing up, of surpassing even her wildest dreams for her future. For goodness sakes, her birthday was coming up in February, was she going to be all alone? Was she going to be... dead? Why had they turned on her, imprisoned her in her own half-formed body? Just because she was a little quiet some times didn't mean she didn't love her friends. Pericles... was her friend, wasn't he? He saved her back in the forest... certainly he only meant to save her from the fray and carry her somewhere safer...
Please be my hero...
Her knight in shining armor... certainly he would be able to tell who the real one was.
