"That's a really cool meaning for your name. I'm just named after a flower." Did Paige hear right? Did Rose really think the meaning of her name was cool? "Th-thanks. But flowers are pretty. In my opinion." She said the last part quietly because she instantly regretted saying that as soon as she opened her mouth. I shouldn't disagree with a second. year. Can I? Paige silently scolded herself. None of that anymore, Paige. If I and Rose should become friends, I want to see brave. Rose was excited when she mentioned she was a muggle-born. "That's so cool! What do your parents do?" Paige was delighted that Rose showed interest. "Oh! Well, my mom is a nurse. It's really cool, because sometimes I get to go with her and pretend to be her assistant! I want to be a nurse too, but now there are more options! And my dad... my dad... he um works at a publishing company." Her last words seemed boring compared to her mom's job. Her parents were divorced. Her Mom left. Paige was happy when Rose kept going. "I bet you guys were shocked to receive your letter, huh?" Paige laughed shyly. "Y-yeah. We were. So you come from a wizarding family, r-right?" Rose nodded. "I do. My mom is a witch. My dad was a muggle, but he passed away when I was young so I never really heard too much about muggles and how they live and stuff from him." Paige felt horrible and now more than ever she didn't know what to say. "I'm sorry, Rose."

Why did people seem so surprised when she was enthusiastic about muggles? Maybe it was because a lot of people looked down on them- muggles and muggle-borns. But they were simply different than the wizarding community, that's all. Rose nodded. "That's so interesting! I bet you loved those visits with your mom, being her assistant and all. I bet she loved those days with you as well. My mom is a Healer for St. Mungos, actually, which is like a wizarding hospital. So, as a healer, she is kinda like a muggle doctor, except in the wizarding world- she uses magic and potions and stuff. It's actually really cool."
Oh, well now she had just made this all so awkward. Why couldn't she just shut up about her dad and not guilt trip everyone with her dramatic sob story? God, this poor first year. She probably didn't want to come off as rude, so she murmured her condolences. "It's okay. I never really got to know him, so it's not like I miss him too much," she reassured the girl. Well, that just sounded insensitive. She was going to start explaining, but she had already dumped so much on this innocent girl and didn't want to overwhelm her with her rambling.
By then, they had crossed the great hall, the entrance hall, and the big bridge, and had arrived at the library. Rose set the books she was carrying down on a table for Paige. "It was nice talking to you. I think I'm gonna go get a book and read for a little bit. But I'll see you around." she said goodbye to Paige and found a good book to read- it was on magical creatures, one of her big interests. She hoped the first-year would turn out okay.

"yeah, I was thinking I could be a healer." There was an awkward silence when Rose mentioned her dad. "It's okay. I never really got to know him, so it's not like I miss him too much," Paige's eyes widen. That sounded a bit cold. She knew Rose meant well. They rounded a corner and walked up to the library. They walked in to a big room with rows and rows of books. There tables with parchment and ink. Rose put down Paige's books on a table. "It was nice talking to you. I think I'm gonna go get a book and read for a little bit. But I'll see you around." Paige nodded. "okay, bye." With that, Rose walked away. Paige shrugged. Oh well. Paige set down her bag and brought the books to the desk to return. Once she returned them, she went to get more books to check out and one day break her back. Paige sat down and began to read.
