"Do you know who our prefect is?" Wini asked. Asteria adjusted herself in her seat.  "Well, I'm just a first year like you, so no." She replied. "The prefects will call  us when it's time." Asteria took a spoon of ice cream and ate some. "I wonder where all this food will go when we're done." She said, Asteria couldn't help but wonder who made all the food anyway. Is the kitchen enchanted? Do they have House Elves? Asteria couldn't help but be curious. 'I wonder what else this castle hides.' She thought. Asteria found her mind wondering back to home. She missed her mum and dad, she missed her room and her old friends.

'I wonder how mum and dad are doing? What did mum make for dinner, is dad on another mission for the ministry?' She thought worryingly. 'No, can't think like that now can we,' a voice echoed in her mind. 'we should be brave for mum and dad.No tears, no worrying, pick yourself up!Plus, we're in school now. What will your fellow Gryffindors think huh?' Asteria pulled herself from her thoughts. Asteria couldn't help but agree, She wasn't acting very brave for a Gryffindor. "First years!" A voice called out. Asteria looked down the table. There was a boy standing up, he looked older than the rest of the students. "That must be the prefect." Asteria said. "Attention first year Gryffindors! If you would follow me please, I will show you to where you will be staying and your dorms." The boy stated. "I guess it's time to go." Asteria said "We can talk more tomorrow".

Wini nodded, chastising herself for asking Asteria all of these questions. Like she had said, Asteria was only a first year like herself. Of course, somewhere in Wini's mind, she simply though all wizards and witches who came from families of wizards and witches would simply know the ups and downs of Hogwarts. Obviously, she was wrong.

Then a boy, older than Asteria and herself, stood and called the attention of the table. Thank heavens! Wini silently rejoiced, glad that they could be moving once again. Even though she was glad to be finally heading to bed, she was a little excited to see more of the castle. Asteria had mentioned a password earlier. Wini wondered if that meant there was a secret door? This caused a small burst of excitement to appear inside of the small brunette.

Wini turned back to Asteria, nodding at her suggestion of continuing the conversation later. "Ok, it was nice to meet you," Wini nodded tiredly, another yawn making its way out of her mouth. She stood along with the rest of her house, ready to make her way out of the great hall and towards the dormitories. Wini's excitement only grew at the thought of the coming year.

After some time to think about it, he finally decided to open the doors leading into the great hall.
It was the first time after his sorting ceremony that he stepped a feet inside this impressive hall - it wasn't called Great Hall for nothing after all.

Alan was a bit nervous, but mostly impressive as he took a look around, taking in the sight of all the four long tables for the students. He then raised his gaze to peek a glance at the head table where the teachers and staff members usually where seated.

After taking in a deep breath he began to walk towards the table with the red-golden decoration, the table of lions. The table where he belonged to, his house.

It was really an amazing feeling, the feeling of belonging. All of them where chosen for this house because of a reason, which made them to some sort of team.

Alan searched for a free place at the table, where people seemingly his age where seated.
As soon as he sat down, a plate appeared magically infront of him. A small smile lifted the corners of his lips upwards and he began to scoop some of the food into his plate.

He took a glance around him, maybe there was someone he could talk to?

As Alan sat down, a curly haired boy was quickly pushed into a seat next to him by a flustered Slytherin girl who immediately ran back to her own table. "Uh hello, I'm Marvin" Said the boy. Marvin was sure everyone at the table was confused why he was just brought to this table by a Slytherin, so he was trying his best to play it off and not make things awkward. He also quickly grabbed some food from the table to try to blend in with the other students as best he could (Not to mention he was also extremely hungry at this point).
But luckily he didn't need to keep up much of an act as it seemed there was only one or two students nearby Marvin at the moment, so not many people noticed his curious entrance to the table. Marvin was planning on just eating and getting out of the grand hall as soon as possible, but he decided he could stay a while and admire the place a bit more. After he decided on that, the boy was immediately distracted by a picture along the wall and began to study it intently and wrote down some notes on a stray piece of paper he had.

Mardella jolted as the forkful of potatoes she had been holding jumped from her hand to clatter against the plate, a body squeezing into the space between her and the light haired blond boy beside her. She turned to - she wasn't exactly sure what she was going to do but she'd been happily eating her mash -
"Uh hello, I'm Marvin."
She blinked at the new face, registering the red tie and the brown curls on his head. Well, that was one way to make an entrance! She felt her lips lift unwillingly to smile. It was kind of hard to be annoyed when the boy looked so awkward. And adorably short! She kind of wanted to pinch his cheeks. Aborting her original move to snap hangrily back, instead she said hesitantly, "Um...I'm Mardella," She watched the Slytherin girl scurry back to her table, "Was that...who was that?"

His sister? The girl was too far away to see if they looked similar. A friend, maybe? Some people had all the luck when it came to making friends... Or, her eyes widened as she looked back at Marvin, did he go and sit at the wrong table? The Slytherin table?

In surprise Alan's eyes widened, as suddenly a body was pressed between him and a girl. He didn't really cared though, because there was still enough place for the three of them.

But still, it was kinda unexpected for him that someone would sat down right next to him and that's why he curiously let his gaze wander over the boy.

He had curly hair and it didn't took him long to introduce himself shyly.
As some girl began to join the introduction, she must have noticed them too.

He tried to make himself remember their names. Marvin and Mardella.
He hoped that he won't forget these names, since they were the first persons he really interacted with.

"My name is Alan Vanes, but you can call me Alan" explained the, for his age, small boy. He never was really tall, but he couldn't care less about it. Only in some situations, a bit more height would be convenient. But he grew to get used to it.

The second question from Mardella caught his interest, but he haven't noticed any girl from Slytherin at their table. He propably spaced out when that had happened, that's why he was so surprised by Marvin in the first place.

"My name is Alan Vanes, but you can call me Alan."
"Nice to meet you," Mardella smiled back politely, over Marvin's head. The blond boy (who had mostly looked like he had spaced out before now) looked vaguely familiar, in the way that most purebloods did. Perhaps she'd seen him or his parents around the Diagon or Knockturn Alley before? A lot of people passed through, after all. She ate some more of her dinner, but when no one spoke after a moment, she paused, fork halfway to her mouth. "You looked kind of dazed," She prodded curiously, "Expecting Gryffindor?"

As she kept half an ear out for Alan's reply, she ate a little more of her mash potatoes happily. Hogwarts made better mash than her Ma! Marvin beside her seemed to have produced parchment from nowhere and was now scribbling quickly on it whilst glancing every once in a while to a large painting along the opposite wall. A budding artist, perhaps? Or critic? Surreptitiously, Mardella tried to edge closer to read what he had written.

Alan stopped eating, the fork with some mashed potatoes on it, was now hovering within his hand in the air. Right above his plate, where he earlier had scooped up some of the delicious mash. It was a very simple dish, but it remembered him of his childhood.

"Not really..." admitted the boy sheepishly, hoping that no one would take offense.
"I was hoping for Slytherin, but I don't mind! The Sorting Hat had his solid reason to put me in this house and I hope I will make friends" explained the light blonde boy.

"Where you happy about the Sorting Hat's decision to put you in the house of lions? Gryffindor I mean... Or did you wished for another house to be put in?" his curiosity took the better of him and he asked this question, with a small smile, before he put the fork into his mouth and continued to eat.
Since he now wasn't talking anymore there was no reason he should wait to let the delicious food cool down.
Especially after they had such a long drive with the Hogwarts Express. Chocolate frogs are delicious, but they are by no mean a comparison to a whole meal.

As Mardella tried to read what was on the paper that Marvin was writing on, she caught glimpses of notes about the school. A few passages from the page included "The paintings move here" (Followed by a list of passwords to enter certain rooms) and "The style of Hogwarts is very gothic, and several parts of the school are kind of run down" It was clear Marvin didn't know all that much about Hogwarts and was trying to gather as much information as he could.
Marvin had absolutely no idea of Mardella's snooping, and continued to observe the room and write down more notes. But he wasn't completely oblivious to what was going on around him and responded to Alan's question,"I really don't mind which house I'm in, from what I know about them, I think I could fit fine into any of them." As Marvin continued to sit there after he had said this, he wasn't quite sure if it was true. The Griffindor house was for the brave, and while he liked adventure, there's no way Marvin could be brave if he was ever in any real danger. Marvin was a bit lost in his thought for a while as he continued to observe the room.

Mardella caught a few glimpses of words and phrases, seemingly to be about the castle itself, before Alan's reply and question caught her attention.
"Not really..." admitted the boy sheepishly, hoping that no one would take offense.
"I was hoping for Slytherin, but I don't mind! The Sorting Hat had his solid reason to put me in this house and I hope I will make friends" explained the light blonde boy.

"I really don't mind which house I'm in, from what I know about them, I think I could fit fine into any of them."
She jumped when Marvin answered before she could and sheepishly pretended she hadn't been trying to read over his shoulder, not so subtly placing her elbow on the table between them. "Slytherin, huh? Wow, must have pretty big plans for the future, then Alan," She grinned, and then a little more self-consciously, "I was kind of just praying the Hat wasn't going to send me home, to be honest, didn't think much about the Houses." She shrugged, "Still, Gryffindor's not too bad - not sure how brave I am though, or chivalrous. Do you think we grow into that?"

She glanced down at her empty plate and then around the table. Was dessert part of the Welcoming Feast too?
