A Winter's Ball
This is the legendary Grand Ballroom of Beckett Manor. Coats have been shed and guests have been greeted. As each family enters the room, they are announced by the butler (Picture the guy from Cinderella, my dudes, very schmancy, feel free to godmod him announcing your character if you like) There are dining tables around the edges of the room, as well as tables full of every possible kind of delicacy. Not that there has ever been a year where the Beckett Gala has spared any expense, but this year, in particular, the young hostess seems to have gone all out. There are caterers, rather reminiscent of penguins, circling the room with trays of hors d'oeuvres as well as festive libations. There's a fully stocked bar in the corner with a bartender ready for whatever any of the adult guests might request, and all manner of non-alcoholic beverages for the younger guests, including the favorite of the hostess, coffee.
There's a string quartet playing softly, and as the night goes on, the center of the room fills with couples dancing. The floor is glittering marble, nearly begging to be occupied by dancers. Decorations adorn the walls and banisters of the grand staircase. There is a room off the side for younger children or those who aren't ready to deal with so many people (family member NPCs you don't feel like RPing the entire time). There also happen to be ice sculptures of swans that are enchanted to gracefully fly about the room. All in all, the ball is the epitome of luxury.

Pretty girl, perfect gala. After an afternoon stuck being entertained by muggles and listening to the incredibly annoying chatter of her parent's business partner's daughter, Mira, Amara is ready to party with her friends. Following Aunt Lydia's lead into that metal death cart that the muggles deem safe, Amara rolls her eyes at Mira's fit over the fact that she cannot attend a party.
Making small talk with her aunt on there way over, Lydia makes sure that they end up at an aquaintances house so they can floo over together, and finally, they have arrived at The Winter's Ball.
Dressed in a satin, black gown embroidered with little gems, made up with some red lipstick and her hair in simple waves, and accessorized in Loubitons and diamonds, our little Slytherin looks just like a princess.
Kissing the cheeks of her friend and hostess, Anastasia Beckett, Amara goes on to greet adults and friends of family before seprating from her and heading off into the ballroom where her friends are assembled. Grabbing a flute of sparkling cider from a passing waiter, Amara glances around at the extravagance around her. Such a pretty ballroom and ball in general.
With a swish of her black gown, Amara looks around for someone she recognizes, but none of her friends seem to be here yet. So she sips and she waits.

Ana's heart was racing. The night she had been anticipating for months was here. It was not only the first time she had ever planned and hosted anything of this magnitude, it was the first Beckett event since the summer. Her aunt and uncle had spread whispers about her mother passing away from dragon pox and her father being so heartbroken that he had fled to some island or another. There wasn't a grain of truth in it, and the editor in her was infuriated. While she had hardly gone around announcing what had really happened, she certainly hadn't flat out lied. Still, she had finally visited her mother's grave the preceding week and was ready to move on. Starting with this gala.
Planning it, she understood her mother a bit better. Especially after she had a small tantrum about ivory tablecloths instead of alabaster. Still, everything was perfect, and she was ready to enjoy a night with some friends and a host of high society Purebloods. Gloved fingers brushed her necklace as she inhaled before she was announced. She had greeted a handful of guests at the door, but now, it was time for her to make her grand entrance. No pressure...
"Lady Anastasia Blair Marie Katherine Alexandra Sophia Isabella Ann Beckett of London, fourth of her name, heir to the Beckett line, welcomes you to the Annual Beckett New Year's Eve Gala," the announcer's voice boomed as she seemed to float down the stairs. There was no outward sign of Ana's nerves or stress. Quite the contrary, she was the picture of poised perfection and grace.
As her seemingly endless list of middle names was read, she half wondered if she would be at the bottom before the announcer finished his bit. Fortunately, she had a few steps to go when he breathlessly reached the end. She half wondered how utterly and completely pretentious people hearing that might think she was. As if the seven middle names weren't obnoxious enough, now she had an actual title before it.
A perfectly curled strand of hair that had been let loose to frame her face moved in front of her eyes and she gracefully brushed it away. It was fascinating to her how quickly she had adjusted to the new color, considering she had had the same shade of brown since birth. As cliche as it was, both the hair and the gala both seemed to her to be symbols of the start of a new chapter. She was more than ready for it. The past year had been the single worst and most difficult in her fourteen years of life, and no matter what came next, she had to believe she was more than prepared.
Her eyes scanned the room for Willow, who she was increasingly grateful for. The Hufflepuff was a ray of sunshine under any circumstances, but she was quite honestly probably the only reason that Ana hadn't completely flown off the handle in the preparations for the Gala earlier that day. Upon finding Willow, she made a beeline for the girl and looped her arm through Willow's. "I didn't trip, so hopefully, that bodes well for the night," Ana whispered, laughing slightly as she began to exhale. She had done quite literally everything in her power to arrange the most amazing night possible, and at this point, the only thing left for her to do was trust the professionals she had hired and attempt to enjoy herself.

Oh. My. God.
Amara holds in a squeal as she notices Anastasia make her grand entrance.
Oh. My. God.
Anastasia is blonde. Anastasia is a beauty, stunning, she puts the ballroom to shame.
Her arm hooked and walking with some pink-haired girl who Amara somewhat recognizes, Windy? Whatever. Amara walks over to them and envelopes Anastasia in a light hug, lets her go, and sends a kind glance over to the other girl. "You look amazing darling, truly beautiful." Turning to the second girl Amara sticks her hand out for a handshake, "I am so sorry, I do not believe we have met. Amara Lada Sage Dragamior, a pleasure to meet you."
Anastasia did a wonderful job this evening, the gold, beamed ceilings, and large staircases, this room is one of beautiful extravagance. "You know this turned out better than you hinted at in our letters, I am utterly blown away."
And the second year means it. This event is going wonderfully, and the Dragamior heir is honestly so excited to spend time with Anastasia, Flash, Astrea, and Ruby. This is going to be a night to remember and a night to just let go of the family bullshit Amara has been dealing with and the general chaos of everything, a night to dance, have fun and be a spoiled, pureblooded princess.

A Winter's Ball
Writing as iNPC Phylicia Stanwood | Open to Interactions
Phyllis would have rather been just about anywhere else right now. It wasn't necessarily the idea of a ball that put her off, but more the fact this was one exclusive to a bunch of snobby purebloods. Add in that she wasn't sure anyone she knew, not to mention liked, were going and she'd resigned herself to a very long, boring evening.
The clothing didn't exactly help, either. The dress she'd ended up with wasn't terrible, but it wasn't comfortable either. Not to mention it wasn't remotely fit for broom riding which, in her opinion, should be illegal, though it wasn't like she'd be flying at all tonight. The shoes she was wearing were decidedly uncomfortable and she wondered if she could get away with taking them off at some point and perhaps mysteriously not being able to find them again. They at least weren't ridiculously high thanks to the fact she'd immediately almost twisted her ankle when she'd tried on the original pair. She'd done that on purpose, of course, but no one knew that so she'd successfully saved herself from a night of atrocious footwear.
At least they were utilizing instantaneous travel rather than the pointlessly long methods Plott insisted on whenever they were going to Hogwarts. Their fireplace was connected to the Floo Network, as was only natural for a wizarding family, so it didn't take her and her mother very long at all to get from Canada to their destination.
The first thing she noticed was the opulence. Merlin. What even was the point of so much wealth on clear display? She wasn't unaccustomed to it, of course; her childhood home had been quite grand and her current residence, while far from castle-like, was still plenty spacious and well-kept. So, apparently the Becketts were another disgustingly rich set of purebloods. What a surprise.
With a small eye roll, she followed her mother out of the spotless fireplace and towards the ballroom. "Do behave," came the quiet hiss of her mother's voice as they walked. This was the first ball the two of them would be attending since the Ministry had discovered and destroyed her mother's dark artifacts. No doubt there'd been gossip about it. Even if the raid had been kept quiet, there would still be speculation over why her mother and father had parted ways. That had been one good thing about moving to the Americas; there weren't any rumors to deal with. Perhaps people would notice Charmaine's appearance for the first time in years, or maybe they wouldn't. Phyllis didn't really care. Besides, she doubted her mother would be making a big scene. More likely she was here for her lovely little collection of dark artifacts.
Then they were entering the ballroom. Phyllis' eyes landed on the butler and she died a bit inside. Please no. But her mother was telling him their names and then he was calling them out, announcing them. At least she didn't have a pointlessly long name like some other purebloods, with only one middle name to speak of, but she still hated every second of it. It was over, Phyllis rolling her eyes again once she was sure her mother wasn't looking.
It wasn't long before her mother muttered something about needing to do something, and with one last warning to not make any scenes or disgrace their family any more than it already was, she disappeared into the growing throng of people. So... it was just Phyllis, then. She looked around for a familiar face, but not finding one, decided she'd see if there was anything worth eating. She wagered it was about a 50/50 chance; either there would be a bunch of fancy but unappetizing food or there would be something worth eating.
She made her way first towards the refreshment table. Hmm... there were no shortage of options, that was for sure. Her gaze landed on a dark brown liquid she'd only ever heard about: coffee. Didn't coffee give you energy or something? It wasn't necessarily energy she needed right now, but if she was going to be stuck here for hours, maybe it would help. Plus, it was an adventure of sorts. Trying something new... while not the most exciting thing ever, it was better than nothing.
Phyllis poured herself a cup of the steaming liquid. That was it, right? She just had to wait for it to cool off a little and then she could try coffee for the first time. Moving away from the table so others could access it, she smiled a bit to her coffee cup, like the two of them were sharing a secret.
When it had finally reached a temperature she didn't think would instantly murder her taste buds, she took her first sip. And was immediately disgusted. What the heck? Cringing, she swallowed the bitter liquid as quickly as possible, face screwed up in revulsion. Ugh. Who drank this stuff?

There was no way to sugarcoat this. Santario Martin did not want to be at this Gala; she would rather be somewhere else and with someone else, but with bloodline came obligation. It wasn’t anything against Ana because, realistically, she hardly knew the girl, to be fair. She had been to many pureblood occasions while in France, which was usually full of Beauxbatons students; however, her grandparents wanted her to be a part of more events that involved the people that she went to school with, and thus they procured an invitation to the Beckett New Year’s Eve Gala.
With that in hand, her grandmother had picked out some horrid princess puffed dress intended for Santario to wear this evening. However, Santario was having none of that and instead choose a dark blue boat neck, caped dress, and a light grey, fur-trimmed pashmina. Her hair would be fashioned into a messy fishtail braid, and to top it off, her silver and white rose locket heirloom. When she came down from her room, the look her grandmother gave her spoke volumes, but Césarine was not one to hold back her feelings. “Well, it’s too late for you to change; we need to go. Just don’t embarrass us tonight.” Santario would say nothing and only smile at her grandfather as he gave his silent nod of approval.
Stepping through the floo network, they would arrive their coats and pashmina taken by the staff available. As they walked towards the ballroom, the pit of Santario’s stomach dropped out. There was a Butler announcing people as they came in. For the first time, the people that knew her or knew of her at Hogwarts would know she was not only a pureblood but a titled pureblood. This was not the sort of attention she wanted, but what choice did she have? As they approached, her Grandfather spoke to the butler giving their names and titles.
“Now announcing Duke Mathurin de Clairmont, his wife Dutchess Césarine de Clairmont, and their granddaughter and heir Lady Santario Isabelle Martin-de Clairmont.”
As they were announced, they glided into the room, her grandparents smiling with small nods of acknowledgment to the people they knew. Santario held a tightlipped smile, just awaiting the moment that she would be allowed to detach from her grandparents and find a corner to go hide in. She would need to do the proper thing and greet the Lady of honor this evening and thank her formally for the invitation.

It's been a while that his family force invited him with them to a pureblood party or gala and if anyone who knew the boy from school or elsewhere would see a change in him. He wore a simple black and white suit with his blond hair combed straight back and following behind his parents and next to his brother. Personally he wouldn't have chosen to come but didn't have much of a choice in the matter so here he was playing the part he was suppose to and wearing the 'mask' that his family designed for him.
Walking through what appeared to be the ballroom next to his older brother also in a suit similar to Charles, he heard him whisper in his ear " enjoying yourself Charles? Because it will probably be the last one that you attend," Charles glanced at their mother and father before whispering back to his brother " sounds perfect to me, do you really think that I want to be here as their puppet," Charles had a feeling he would regret saying that as he heard the butler announce the arrive of the Mathurin de Clairmont family as he felt his older brother; Andrew step on his toe and grip his wrist letting his nails sink into his skin as he hissed to Charles, " why don't you mind your tone little brother," and just before the butler announced their family Charles whispered back " and why don't you mind your breath, big brother."
"Now annocuing the Alluring family and their heirs," as the butler's voice filled the room. Charles felt his brother release him as he watched Andrew walk ahead of him to join their father and grandfathers side. Charles meanwhile walked behind his family down the stairs before entering the ballroom floor, the thirteen year old was glad that his aunt and cousins didn't show but he still would have to stay by his family since his parents and grandparents were there not to mention his brother.
However Charles was looking for his moment to escape his family as he spotted a girl with raven hair whom Charles thought didn't seem like the rest there so he gave her a small smile but stayed quiet behind his family as they chatted with some other pureblood there.

Around the middle of November, the Alptraum family had received mail from an unexpected sender. Anastasia Beckett. The Alptraums were familiar with the surname, as they had attended Beckett galas in the past. Attending the galas had been a New Years tradition with the parents, for some time. However, this year the parents would not go. They had made other plans for New Years. The letter would be set to the side. Forgotten- until winter break rolled around. Someone- a very nosy and annoying someone, who had no business looking through mail that was not hers- would make the letter relevant again. Thanks Tabitha.
Having Xailah attend the Beckett gala, was not her mothers idea, nor her fathers- they were rather hesitant to let either of their children leave the house- Tabitha, the matriarch (she was visiting for the holiday) had pushed, and later convinced the mother to send her daughter to the party. Why? To get rid of the little brat of course. Tabitha never liked Xailah. She hated the fact that the peculiar child was the family heir. She had hopes that maybe some other family would whisk the child away, or that she would get lost. Never to be found again. No seriously. The woman was a nutcase. Mother was reluctant to send her daughter to the house of another family, since she was absolutely terrified of the possible reactions that her daughter could provoke. But eventually she succumbed to Tabithas constant bickering. Of course when Xailahs mother insisted that Meadow was going to attend as well (it only made sense to send both children), Tabitha begged her to just let neither child go. But the letter of confirmation had already been sent. Oops.
So not only did Xailah get sent to a party that she did not want to go to, she got to play babysitter as well. And if things couldn't get any worse, both girls were put in matching bonnets. The bonnet had been the lesser of two evils. Mother had given the girls a choice of matching bonnets, or matching dresses- that way both girls could easily find the other, if they got separated at the party. Which was unfortunate foreshadowing. Xailah begged to wear the bonnet- at least it could be removed later. Meadow- the youngest- wanted to wear the dresses. She was an eleven year old girl, what did anyone expect? In an attempt to salvage her dwindling patience, Mother told Meadow that her sister would have to wear the gown at the the next party they would attend. Only the lord knew when that would be. Xailah hoped the youngest Alptraum would forget about the deal whenever that time came. Once the girls were ready, Mother kissed them both goodbye, and sent them on their way.
The girls came tumbling out of the Floo Network. Xailah first. Then little Meadie. Everything would go absolutely fine at first, they walked around a bit- poked around the foyer, stared at the ice sculptures that circled the ceiling. The little swans were incredibly taunting. Eventually this new place, with all these new people would prove to be too much for the youngest girl. There was so much she wanted to see! She would make a break for the ballroom. Xailah trailed after her, the best she could. The floors were too slippery for a game of chase. Meadow wouldn't get too far into the ballroom- though she would somehow evade the announcer standing by the entrance- an extended hand from her sister would stop the girl in her tracks. "Mother said you have to ssstay with me. Alright?" Xailah informed, whilst she uncomfortably poked at her hair, which had been tucked neatly beneath her bonnet. She wasn't at all used to having it up. The youngest Alptraum nodded at her older sister- and Xailah assumed that was a sign of understanding.
Yeah no, that went in one ear, and out the other. The siblings would wander off towards some tables containing sweets. Xailah figured the goodies would anchor her sister at least for a little while. But that was mostly just wishful thinking. Xailah would turn away for a second- to look at the hors d'oeuvres served. A second was all Meadow needed. "Meadow, they have Pâte à Choux- your favorite." No answer. The eldest girl prayed that Meadow was just being unusually quiet. And again, that was wishful thinking. Xailah turned around slowly, to find that not only was her sister missing, the little brat had scampered off with a tray of sweets as well. In place of the missing tray, was a small, pink rock, with a happy face drawn on it. Meadow would have a fit, if she found out she had lost it. The rock- which Meadie had dubbed Percival, was no ordinary rock. Mother said that if Meadow could keep... Percival, without losing him; then she would think about letting Meadow get another pet. Percival, was essentially a pet rock. An abandoned pet rock. Xailah quickly snatched up Percival, before anyone came to question why a happy little stone was on the table.
"...Meadow?" Xailah called, and then awkwardly chirped as if trying to summon a dog. Where could that girl be? Normally Xailah would have had no problem with playing hide and seek- of course normally she was the one doing the hiding, and the rooms usually weren't filled with hundreds of people. The eldest Alptraum girl looked everywhere for her missing sibling, and to no avail. She looked under the tables, the chairs, several sets of silverware- which she had been too distraught, to even think about taking- she even looked beneath a teacup! A teacup!! Alas, Meadow was nowhere to be seen. The circling swans mocked Xailahs misfortune- that was what it felt like anyways. Feeling abandoned, and slightly embarrassed, the girl scuttled over to a nearby bar. It seemed like a good place to kill some time. She pulled her bonnet down a little, to hide her face. Maybe Meadow would eventually find her way to the snack tables, once her goody stash was depleted. Maybe she wouldn't. Man. This sucked.
Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

A Winter's Ball
The de Clairmont’s glided through the room with their granddaughter in tow, stopping and greeting people that they knew while introducing them to Santario, but it wouldn’t take long before those sapphire eyes started looking for an escape from the pomp and circumstance, at least for a little while. As she looked around, she had to admit that Ana’s home was beautiful, and the architecture, especial the stairs, was just stunning. If only she had been allowed to hide behind her camera tonight, no one ever bothered the photographer.Interacting| Charles Alluring (@Henry Knight)

As her eyes scanned the room, they landed on a blonde boy who looked in her direction. His small smile initiating interaction and proposing an escape for them both. She offered him a nod in greeting from a distance before turning to her grandfather and placing a hand upon his forearm. He would lean down, and the two would exchange some words before Santario indicated with her eyes where she intended ongoing. He looked over at the boy and nodded before returning to his conversation, leaving Santario to make her way across the room towards the boy she didn’t recognize. Though she did think that he looked a little like her cousin, Angel’s date from the October ball, she couldn’t be sure.
As she approached, she would offer a small smile if he was still looking her way, stopping just before entering what could be considering his personal space and offering another bow of her head. “Santario Martin, Hogwarts. Would you care to escape to the dance floor?” Her silvery French-accented voice asked, making use of the word escape very pointedly. Even if they didn’t want to dance with each other, his family would hear the word dance and assume that was where they would be. After all, they were at a Gala, and it was easy to get lost within the throng of people and the din of their noise.

A Winter's Ball

Willow had spent most of her day alongside Anastasia, getting ready and dolled up for the evening of delight. After the emotional night they had shared, Willow felt closer to her than ever. Every now and again her hand would come up to idly touch the necklace she was gifted the night before. One, to make sure it was still there because it was worth more than her entire life. But two, because it gave her a feeling of joy to have someone openly think about her, and have it be such kind thoughts. Ana had truly become a whirlwind in her life, coming in so suddenly and becoming such a big part of it. So much so that she was invited to a ball that was supposedly just for purebloods. While it left Willow feeling out of place, she knew Ana would take care of her and make sure that she was as comfortable as possible.
It started with seeing with Willow wanted to do a grand entrance, which she promptly denied for fear of fully falling and tumbling in the giant dress that she was wearing. It was truly the most extravagant thing she had ever worn, and it left her feeling like a princess. Instead, Willow dutifully waited for the hostess as she seemed to glide effortlessly down the stairs. Willow was left in awe, with a hope that someday she would be as graceful as Ana. When Ana looped her arm through Willow's, she gave her a gentle squeeze of comfort. "You looked beautiful, and you seemed to time it perfectly. Remind me... why do you have so many middle names? I literally have one and it's after my grandma." She giggled and pulled Ana towards the bar to get very fancy non-alcoholic drinks. "Come on, let's get some drinks before it gets too crowded."
