Holiday break have ended. The new year has arrived. And everyone was back at Hogwarts. Some were meeting up with friends and sharing their holiday experiences or events with others while others were most likely in the great hall chatting with friends and eating the feast that was well known throughout the students of Hogwarts.

However not everyone was happy or joyful to be back, some wished they had a time tuner so they could turn back them to a simpler and better time that they didn't worry as much or their anxiety wasn't as ever looming as the current time. Henry Knight hoisted his messager type bag on his shoulder as he searched the corridors for Santario Martin, the co dueling captain of the slytherin team also known as the Viridian Vipers. He thought about approaching Dmitri Jones his dueling captain with this matter but decided that he was better to try his luck with his co captain first.

So Henry was searching the corridors for her and hoped that she wasn't already in the great hall yet since what he wanted to discuss was rather private and personal to some extent.

Ever since he got on the team, Henry always felt like he didn't deserve a spot. He felt as if that the team didn't benefit for having him on the team and compared to the rest he was less equipment, weaker, and knew less spells than the rest no matter how hard he trained and studied. Even after their regular dueling practices, Henry would find himself training and studying for duels but still felt as if he didn't deserve his spot on the team.

That holiday break only added to those worries as he expected nothing much when he return home, he visited his best friend and her family over the break which he considered was the best part of it. Then after he barley saw his father whom was at the ministry for most of it and his twin sister acted more unruly than ever and was almost always gone to. So he only really spent the break with his older brother and apparently his auror training buddies as well. It wasn't the most memorable or fun he had during a break but it was better than most until he was forced into visiting his father's girlfriend home a few nights ago before he went back for dinner and found out that his father's girlfriend was the mother of his close friend; Rose Moon and if things between them couldn't get more awkward then that dinner was when his father became engaged to her mother. Which meant the awkwardness and tension would only grow between them since they were now destined to be step siblings.

He also got into a argument with Miranda Everest causing the two to break up and end their childhood relationship.

Most of his problems didn't seem to bad for a older student or adult but to the twelve year old who was expected to make a bigger deal out of these than normally. Not to mention while they were simple and could have a easy fix, his anxiety still increase from them causing him the be more nervous and worried than usual that he was also trying hard to hide from both students and professor within the walls of Hogwarts.

Which is why he was looking for his co captain with all the stress that the boy was feeling and his rise in anxiety, he had pressing matters to deal with and had come to a decision. One that was made from anxiety and worry that was done in a rather rash matter and irrationality that would also proved wrong for him as he searched the corridors for his co dueling captain. While he didn't see it at the moment or time, his decision and what looked like statement that he had planned for Santario was wrong and would only cause him more stress and anxiety but the boy has a raise in his anxiety and was thinking irrationally at the moment so he couldn't sit down and think about it or sleep on it since his mind would more than likely jump to another horrible situation or outcome from something that happened in his life so far.

So Henry held his messager type bag a little as he searched the corridors for Santario and hoped the find her soon as he walked through the nearly empty corridors.

Once upon a time ago, Winter Holiday had been Santario’s favorite time of the year. That one morning, when you wake up and take a deep breath, your lungs being filled up with the crisp, clean air that only Winter could bring. The first snowfall gently blanketing the landscape, bringing about a lulling hush that made it easier to think as you made the first footprints for the evening. A mug of hot cocoa topped with cinnamon warming up your cold hands while you help your parents put up holiday decorations. The glean of shiny wrapping paper under the lit tree bearing gifts of love just waiting to be ripped open. The smell of sugar cookies, laughter, and tight warm hugs that could only be given by parents. She used to love winter holidays until her parents were taken from her. Now she awoke to gifts on the end of her bed put there by a house-elf. They were set along with her breakfast for the day, and was forced to spend New Year's Eve at a Gala instead of trying to make plans with friends…

Friends… Santario looked out of the window from the duelling room. “Oh hell…” The lack of light in the sky told her that it was probably supper time, and she had already missed lunch earlier that day. While she didn’t think Thomas would outright tell her what to do with her life, she had a feeling that he still wouldn’t be pleased about it regardless of how he choose to express it. Since he was the closest friend Santario had, she listened to his opinions, especially of her; they actually meant something. She carefully shoved her wand into her pocket and grabbed the black zip-up hoodie she had, and rushed out of the duelling room. The clunk of her Slytherin themed combat boots echoed off the stairs as she rushed from the fifth floor, pulling her sweater on to brace from the chill of the hallways.

As she rushed through the halls and stairs, she pulled the hair tie out of her hair and ran her fingers through undoing the French braid. It wouldn't take long before a figure appeared in the corridor with her, and she slowed down to a fast walk, wondering who it was that was still wandering the halls when supper was on the table. No one said the girl wasn’t a hypocrite sometimes. “Henry?” She quested as she got closer, recognizing some of the boy’s key outfit pieces, plus she was getting decently good at recognizing her duellists from a distance. “On your way to supper?” She inquired as she slowed her approach to match whatever pace he might have been moving at.

For any staff seeing this: Ic/ooc Henry Knight isn't getting off of the dueling team.
After basically wandering through the corridors aimlessly and not really passing anyone,
a familiar voice called his name and Henry looked up to find: Santario Martin the co dueling captain for the slytherin team.

He now was having second thoughts, as worries and emotions filled his mind and spiraled around like a thunderstorm in his head as be was struggling with what to say or how to say it. As he now was reconsidering saying anything to her and just running away but that could have bigger effects as his mind jumped to the worst possible situations if he ran away or left her standing in the corridor when she was listening to her.

" Uh... yes- I mean no, actually yes or both in a way," Henry stuttered out and took a moment as he took a breath before continuing more calmly now " I was actually looking for Santario, I had a quick question well I wouldn't say question but I would like to talk to you for just a moment if you have time that is?" Henry gave her a small smile before struggling with his next words, be didn't know how to say or phase it as even after she would answer Henry would still struggle with his words as he stood their almost frozen in the corridor clutching his bag on his shoulder and staring at the co dueling captain.

Henry knew that he had to tell her or the captain but figured that this may go more smoothly and easier with the co dueling captain then captain but that didn't make it any easier for Henry to actually say it as he took a few breaths and hid his rising anxiety and emotions as he tapped his right hand quite quickly but also in small movements to hide them from the second year girl in front of him.

He had to say his peace and he would as he still felt his rising anxiety and really didn't want to say it because he knew deep down that this decision was wrong and he shouldn't be doing this but at the time he made a irrational decision because of his rising anxiety that was controlling his life at the moment so he took a breath and spoke ~

" I'm getting off the team."

Henry couldn't believe that he said that as he felt like running but also staying plus other emotions that was spiraling within him as he spoke again " I don't know why I'm on the team, I think you and Dmitri made a mistake putting me on because I'm less equipment and qualified than the others. Not to mention weaker also and I'm sure that I don't benefit the team so to save them the trouble and hopefully the losses I'm getting off the team."

Henry still couldn't believe he did that as he then started to walked in the opposite direction of the great hall at such a slow pace away from Santario.

It wasn’t hard to pick up that something was wrong or bothering the boy as he started to mince his words within his first sentence. Usually, people only spoke that way when they were upset or nervous, sometimes both. She patiently listened, allowing him time to work the words out of his mouth. “I always have time for a Viper, Henry. What did you want to talk to me about?” She shoved her hands into the pockets of her sweater, and she waited… It seemed like whatever he wanted to say was not really something he was prepared to say, and now she was trying to speculate on what it was. She had a feeling it had something to do with the Vipers and possibly leaving, but that would be silly; he did a pretty good job in his duel from what she had been told. Unfortunately, with modding duels and being in one, she didn’t have the luxury to watch any of them.

“Just say it how it comes to mind, don’t try to overthink whatever it is.” That helped her when she needed to just get something out. You just had to say how it was in your brain instead of trying to overthink it because once you allowed yourself to overthink it, your tongue got fat, and it would never leave your lips. Still, she waited, silently now, until he was ready, not wanting to push him to say something he just might not be prepared to talk about. Then he slapped her across the face with one sentence.

“I’m getting off the team.”

Her brows went up in surprise as she stared at him while he continued to accuse her and Dmitri of making a mistake. She really couldn’t believe what he had just said to her, and as he very slowly started to walk off in the direction she had come from. Santario stood there, shock still blinking at the spot where he had been. After a moment, San pulled herself out of it; she moved quickly, swiveling around Henry and stopping in front of him with her arms outstretched. Her brows furrowed as she looked at him. “The hell you are Knight!”

The use of his surname was to help further express her displeasure with his decision. First of all don’t ever let Dmitri hear you say he made a mistake we don’t need that ego explosion. Second of all You hit four rounds out of six with one miss and one backfire. That is a sixty-seven percent success rate. Do you realize that during my duel, Bridget hit only once out of our twelve rounds? She also backfired on herself. You didn’t even get knocked unconscious, but I did.” Her eyes narrowed at him as she now crossedher arms in front of her. The fact that Santario did the most damage in her duel was neither here nor there.

“And Third of all You are not weaker than the rest of the team. Opeila and Adonis didn’t even win their duel. So please tell me exactly where you think you can come off saying that you aren’t good enough because from where I am standing, you belong on the Viridian Vipers just like the other puzzle pieces.” If Henry tried to move around her, she would physically try to stop him from moving past her regardless of him being physically stronger than she was. She was deadly serious; she wanted to know why exactly he thought he wasn’t good enough because she wasn’t buying it.

Henry started to walk away and didn't quite know where he was going really but he did know that he was going away from the great hall and away from others who were discussing their Christmas holidays still quite joyful unlike the boy spiraling with worries and anxiety so much so that he was letting it control him and make irrational decisions that would end up hurting his life.

Henry stopped walking when the dueling co captain stopped in front of him with her arms out almost in a attempt to prevent Henry was leaving, he would try to get past her but then would just stop for a moment to listen to what she had to say still his mind clouded with his anxiety as he listened to her tell him why he should stay on the team and show he benefited the team. Henry placed his hands in his jean pockets after brushing his hair out of his face now revealing dark bags under his eyes a hint that he wasn't sleeping which he wasn't because ever since arriving back at Hogwarts Henry couldn't sleep. He would really just lay in his bed thinking of past events and how he chose the wrong thing or brought someone or something down or maybe how he couldn't help in future incidents if they would happen like he couldn't help in last incidents.

When she finished, Henry would watched her for a moment before speaking quite calmly and softly " it doesn't matter how many times I hit the other team in my duel, maybe if I wasn't on the team then Amara would have stayed. She certainly was twice the dueler then I was," Henry knew his former partner left the team but didn't knew why except he had a rather bad habit of blaming himself for things that sometimes weren't even his fault.

" Yes I won but that doesn't mean I benefit or help the team, I am less then the others both in physical and mental strength. And piece of what puzzle? I'm sure if I left the team today and didn't show up to practice tomorrow then no one would know nor would anyone care," Henry spoke quite calmly as he felt his anxiety coming through which out a strain on his voice and caused him to shake a little and breath harder as he continued quite calmly " before the Viridian Vipers I knew no one of our house and I still know no one from the team so if I did disappear today could you tell me honestly that they would notice or care," Henry waited a few moments before finishing " that's what I thought."

Making sure not to push her, Henry carefully moved past her and away from the great hall, away from others, and away from his life or destiny.

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing, but San could believe what she saw. He looked like she did right after her parents died. Like when she used to go sneak off to the lake at midnight until her lips turned blue because feeling the numbing pain of the cold was better than feeling anything else. “Amara leaving had literally nothing to do with you. From what I noticed, she enjoyed having you as a partner…”. Then he continued on his self-depreciation, and honestly, it broke her heart to hear him be so down on himself.

She wanted to interrupt him and shake some sense into him, but that would make it worse she knew that. She was just in shock by what he was saying, and her response time was less than stellar when it came to interrupting his pause. Before she knew it, he was trying to go off again. So Santario started walking backward so that he couldn’t get past her. “Henry, please stop trying to walk away and just let me talk to you. Please. I can tell you aren’t getting enough sleep, and I can tell because once night falls, I have trouble sleeping. I can’t shut my brain off, and I hardly like what it has to say.” She was dropping her façade for him, at least this once.

Santario, on the outside, was a quiet but decently confident girl. Only one person had ever gotten so close to her that he was behind her walls. He saw her weaknesses and had seen her second guess herself. Now she was allowing Henry temporarily in because he wasn’t as alone as he thought he was. “You know, by the end of last year, I hardly knew anyone’s name, not even in our house. I knew teo other Slytherins really well last year, and that was really it. If it weren’t for Duelling, I still probably wouldn’t know at least half of you. You more than likely, I would know since we are in the same year.” She paused, sighing softly as she ran a hand through her locks, pushing them all away from her face.

“Henry, we may not know each other all that well, but I would notice you were gone, and I would miss you. I know you won’t believe me right now, and you don’t have to. Sometimes I’m afraid the only person I’ve let get close to me will someday just walk away because I’m not worthy of that person’s time or their friendship. I don’t know how I fight that feeling most days, and some days I just can’t because deep down, I know I don’t deserve his friendship… I guess what matters is that you somehow try. Prove the voice in the back of your head wrong just by showing up.” She wasn’t sure if opening up to him was the right idea or not. She didn’t know if it would help, but it felt like the right thing to do.

“I can’t tell you how to live your life, and I won’t. I will tell you that I want you to stay on the team because I value you as a member. I also want you to know that you aren’t alone even when it feels like you are. So… even if I can’t stop you from quitting, I’ll still be here if you need someone or something. However, I'd prefer to see you show up at the next practice.” Henry could now count himself on the one hand worth of people that Santario would make time for if they needed her. It didn’t mean that she trusted him enough to be a friend, but it did mean she might poison someone’s pumpkin juice for him.

Henry heard her talk about how Amara leaving didn't have anything to do with him, typical she's only saying that to make me feel better or whatever, as he continued to walk down the corridor his path was block again by the dueling co captain this time asking him to stop because she wanted to talk so he stopped as his anxiety raged around in his head pounding at his mind giving him a headache.

He looked down a bit, of course she knew he wasn't sleeping by his bags but he couldn't help but listen to her and how someone else was going through similar problems. Maybe he wasn't as different as he thought? Maybe he wasn't that outsider that he claim to be? Maybe he was the reason for his constant isolation and loneliness? Maybe he just needed to open up and start the change?

Henry then looked up at her quite surprised that she didn't know any other Slytherin either even through he doubted they would even have met if it wasn't because of the team. It was still nice for the twelve year old to hear another who didn't know many in their house and could almost if he wanted to open up have her understand....

As she started to talk about friendship, Henry's mind started to wander away from his anxiety and that current situation while he still thought no one on the team would notice if he was there or not. He thought about his own close friends and how they were all on their own house dueling teams, he then thought about the one person who knew him. Who really knew him and he could confide in, his mind started spiraling with if he did get off the team then how would he tell her or how would he explain it. Panic filled his mind.

Henry knew he could after she finished but her words stuck in his head and he couldn't get rid of them as he stood in that corridor and his anxiety started looming over him once more as situations spiraled around his mind while he decided what to do or even say next.

"If it means I could leave then I'll stay on the team, Santario. Even through I still feel like I don't deserve being on it but I'll see you at the next practice anyway," Henry spoke quite slowly and softly as thoughts and situations spiraled around his mind almost making it impossible to think or form words until he continued " why would you say those things about yourself? We barely knew each and if it wasn't for the team then I'm sure we wouldn't know each other at all..... but thank you."

Henry's lips curved into a small smile as his minds composed a bit but still spiraled around his head only telling him the worst possible outcomes while his anxiety loomed over his like a thunderstorm, he spoke " I didn't think I could hide my sleep deprivation but I'm glad to hear others go through it to. I shouldn't have let my anxiety make decisions and I should have thought this through but at least I know one other person on the team now- I guess."

Santario released a breath she hadn’t really realized that she had been holding when Henry agreed to come to practice and stay on the team, at least for now. Everyone needed something to grab and hold onto, something to anchor them into this world, and she hoped duelling would be Henry’s anchor. “We don’t need to be best friends or even be close to see the value others possess. There are a few particular situations that I contribute to meeting certain people in my life, and if it had not been for those situations, would we ever have looked twice at each other? Maybe, maybe not. There is no way to truly know. What is important is that you don’t write them off just because of how you met them. Sometimes you will make the most interesting of acquaintances that way.”

Santario offered a rarely given smile softening her sharp features. “My father always told me that everyone is battling something no matter how small or insignificant we feel it might be it’s there. Just know you have your team to lean on for support when your battle gets rough. Dmitri might come off as an arrogant jerk most of the time, but when it comes to the well being of our team, I have no doubt that he’d be willing to assist if he can.” The line her father told her was an often overused one, but sometimes people really did need to be reminded that they aren’t alone no matter what. “I look forward to seeing you at the next practice, and if you ever want any extra help, just let me know. I’m almost always there. I’ll let you get off to wherever it was that you were headed now. If I don’t remember to get some supper in me, Alan and Thomas will kill me. You’re welcome to join if you have not eaten yet either.” Kill was a strong word, but they wouldn’t be happy. Alan would undoubtedly have a lecture for her in mind, she was sure, and Thomas would no doubt give her looks that would say more than the words he could produce.

Santario would wait to find out if he wanted to talk more or to join her. If he didn’t want to talk more but did want to join, she would walk with him to the dining hall, and if he didn’t want to join, she would make her way there herself.
Santario leaves the thread as long as there is no more verbal interaction to keep her there.

Holding one hand on the strap of his bag with the other by his side as he had his head angel down even as a few stands of hair fell over his eyes, he didn't move then instead the twelve year old thought of what the co dueling captain said and a part of him agreed with her words. A part of him felt like that what he needed to hear for a while but didn't know it while at the same time did know it, the statement was confusing at most but the meaning was perfect.

"Right in a way I agree with you or needed to hear that whichever makes sense. Since one doesn't need to know another or even talk to them, they just need to look at them and see then for their value," Henry spoke still with his head angled down a bit and stands of hair falling over his eyes as he continued to listen to Santario and might have gave the smallest of smiles when she referred to their dueling captain as a arrogant jerk which she wasn't wrong. Alright she wasn't that wrong since Henry agreed at times the fourth year seemed to be more of a arrogant jerk than a leading and responsible mentor.

"I'm pretty sure Dmitri only cares about winning but that's comforting to hear about teams leaning on each other and your father's words are inspiring," Henry spoke again as he thought of his own troubles and worries the ones that he kept to himself and hidden away from others before thinking about the dueling team. He heard of teams that were close or relied on each other but the dueling team was his first experience with that and yet a part of him maybe he was unaware of wished for that.

"Uh yeah I better eat to, I don't think I ate all day really plus I have someone to catch up with," Henry spoke as he figured he should go to the great hall to eat since he had a thought that he should meet Logan and if not her then Michael since he really didn't want to explain to both of them why he avoided them both the entirely of the day as he walked next to the co dueling captain heading into the great hall.
