Alec had signed up for the secret Santa errand. It seemed like it'd be fun. Alec liked the idea of surprising people with gifts. And it seems many other liked the same.. Because, well.. You know. Otherwise this whole thing wouldn't have worked out. From what Alec could see, there were actually quite a few people here today. It made him wonder just how many people had actually signed up. Maybe the whole of Hogwarts was just getting into the holiday spirit. It seemed to be the right thing to do. With all the lot of things that's happened, it was nice. Everybody deserved a bit of a break from the crazy mess that was schoolwork and life, anyway. Gave people things to focus on in the meantime. At least some pretty great gifts would turn out from it? High hopes, right..? Heh.. Yeah.. Okay. Moving on. Alec had come to check out the workplace on day one. Scoping out where he'd sit for the most optimized gift making/creating experience. This meant slightly away from everybody else so he could focus on making his gift. In peace. Without the craziness that was other children and gift making. Crafting.. Well, it did tend to get quite messy. Especially with children that had no idea at all. With what they were doing.

The craft area of the library had been tucked away in a corner. Like certain book areas Alec had totally not heard a thing or two about. There were copious amounts of craft supplies as well. It was truly like craft heaven. With all the scissors, glue, glitter, paint, paper, beads. And anything else you could ever possibly need for crafting up what one's chosen secret Santa gift was. Alec had even noticed to librarian going and helping people out with their crafts and helping them find things they needed for it. Hm.. She seemed nice. Alec had never actually had a verbal one-on-one conversation with her.. He'd never needed to. Even as the library became a temporary home. But she really did seem nice.

Alec had some sort of expertise in the field he was working on for his secret Santa gift.. Which in other words meant. He wasn't going to need any help at all making his very random gift. After a very long brainstorming session Alec had come up with the most stupid funny idea ever. He'd had to ask around about the person he'd been given, but.. It seemed to work out. He'd met the person a few times but.. Moving on if the gift didn't end up being liked, at the very least it was going to be a funny reminder of a joke. And truly, what was better than that? After twenty or so owls to his mother. And one to his father. He'd finally got one of the two to get in. Getting him the necessary supplies. His father, to be perfectly exact. He'd thought the idea amusing from the start. And overall getting the owl back with the supplies and everything had been a pretty positive experience. His dad writing, he'd cracked up upon reading the idea.

And so, of course, now here Alec was. Through this whole ordeal having been walking to the stop, he'd scoped out. Now what exactly was this present being hyped up the whole time? Leather jackets. Yes, Alec was being serious. Leather jackets. They were cool. And from what Alec had heard before his brainstorming session. Was mostly that the person he'd been given from secret Santa gave of leather jacket vibes and also had a cat. So clearly anybody could tell where this was going. Yes, leather jacket cat. Plan Gato genial(Cool Cat). Trust Alec, cats in leather jackets were now going to become a thing.

Moving on again, what Alec planned to do with the jacket? Simple. Christmsify it. Also, that's a real word, so don't look it up. What that meant was Alec was going to sew a Santa clause onto the back of both leather jackets. As well as the words "Crew E.L.F" on top of it. Another stupid but funny acronym that he'd made up. If you really want to know what it means, figure it out yourself. On the front was going to be the person's name, and of course with the leather jacket for the cat. The cat's name. When Alec explained it all now. It didn't seem like that much work. But he knew that whole Santa design on the back was going to take forever to add. Alec had drawn a design for it just earlier that morning.

Alec sat down, taking a seat as he set down his satchel, pulling out his supplies and setting them all out. Before finally pulling the leather jackets out as well. Alec smiled slightly to himself as he smoothed out the bigger leather jacket on his lap. Threading his sewing needle as his eyes lingered the pre-drawn out design and began sewing.(We all know it'd be terrible to actually have to thread through a leather jacket with a sewing machine. But it needs to be precise. So let's move on from the plot hole.) He began slow watching the places he mapped out as well on the jacket as to not mess upset. Gradually going faster with time as he got back into the swing of it. Humming a tune he'd heard recently as he did so. Sewing was fun. He'd always like the way one's hand move delicately but quickly as they hand sew after mastering the art. The boy himself had dreams of designing intricate dresses and detailed suits. Never really getting to bring those ideas to reality in anything but his sketches. But this truly was something.. Wasn't it? Sewing peacefully, making a stupid but cool secret Santa gift as-Oh my, what in Merlin's name is that?

Not even an hour in(realistically over half an hour in) and he found himself distracted with the outside world. Mainly a boy who was very terribly struggling at sewing and hadn't even threaded his needle properly but was attempting to sew. Alec sighed, he knew he really shouldn't be bothered by this. It wasn't his business. Maybe he was doing it on purpose? You know what? Alec didn't care. He was going to fix it either way. Alec picked up his stuff, setting down the leather jacket he'd been working on as he walked over to the boy in the chair. Specifically as Alec had now realized. The one who been reading in the rest room. "Your not doing it right." Alec said simply as he gently grabbed the needle from the other boy's hand with any warning. Fixing the improperly threaded needed. Before pulling up a chair and sitting down next to him. Asking, "What are you trying to make?" as he ran a hand through his messy curly hair brushing bits of it out of his face because they'd begun to fall there.
Word count completed with this post, but will still carry on, for obvious reasons.
Permission given to god mod Michael as very terrible at sewing.

Michael had been in the library all morning, reading about sewing, practicing on discarded cloth everything. And when he thought he had it. Until he pricked his finger, and a boy stopped him.

"It's fine, i read all about it, i got it" he said as the boy fixed his mistakes. "I'm making a Christmas present. . .a wand holder" he said and held up the dragon skin he conned out of his youngest sister, whom he promised to help when it was her first year of school, and muggle thread he was given for the present. "It needs to be done soon, and I want this name on it" he said grabbing a parchment paper with a name on it. "He's duels so i thought it would be a good gift. " he said watching Alec fix his mistake.

His eyes widened when Alec grabbed his practice patches and started to undo all his work. He can't be serious. "Hey! That took me forever to do that!" He said as he watched Alec, inwardly pouting about the fact his work was so easy to undo, that it was all done in a matter of minutes. That wasn't what the book said was suppose to happen.

Alec sighed at this. Oh, great, now he was caught in this and was going to go into the usual sewing rant. What a lovely thing to get involved in today. Just so absolutely lovely really."Reading isn't doing." Alec said simply as he began to undo the practice patches nodding as he'd been told what Micheal was doing. It was a nice gift idea in theory. Alec did duelling himself and Alec while he prized his wand, knew that was.. Sort of like stereotyping. But who knew? Maybe this kid really did want a wand holder. Alec usually just shoved it in his back pocket(Cue Mad-eye-moody reference from Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix)

Trying not to feel terrible for basically telling Michael his work was terrible. And not only that, but also undoing his terrible work.. Which Michael obviously thought looked fine. And as obviously stated it was actually so terrible Alec actually came and inserted himself in the situation to fix it. At least this way he was saving a kid's gift?"You need muscle memory. It's like, um.. Like climbing a tree. Everybody's done it. Everybody has learned how. And it's developed over points of time of repeatedly doing the action." Alec's mind raced back to the tree by his window at this thought. He hadn't done it all year. And thought he might've forgotten how to climb the tree. Where to put his feet on what branches so he wouldn't fall and get hurt by it. But it seems muscle memory had favoured him in that case. It also gave him that embarrassing moment that Wyatt almost saw and heard.. Yeah, we do not need to talk about that.

Alec turned to him. "So even if your mind has forgotten how. That muscle memory with the repeated action of doing it know how. And you, don't have any" Alec went on as he handed Michael the practice patches, positioning his hand just right. "What type of stitch were you planning on doing?" He asked avoiding eye-contact. So he could help. Pulling away to grab his own materials, meaning his multiple thread wools as well as the leather jackets. Honestly, he was probably get strange looks from Michael by now. Why has he done so? Well, so he could watch as he sewed, making sure the boy was sewing the stitch right.

Michael sighed as he watched the boy work, reading isn't doing, well its better than nothing. He usually was good at reading then applying it but sewing just seemed to be different, harder. As he watched the boy, especially after he told the gift idea the boy seemed to have many thoughts on what he was doing. Maybe it was a bad idea? But he didn't know anything about his secret Santa, only he did duels. That was all he had and so the ideas were limited.

Muscle memory? 'Well seems like I'm going to be sewing for a while' he thought. He knew he'd never really have ease at this as it wasn't a skill he planned to have. He was going to deal with animals, not clothes.

" I'm doing a petal stitch if that's alright," Michael said as the boy turned to him, only for the boy to grab him and set his hands in the right position. The older boy seemed to jump away, and get flushed, his eye contact now nonexistent. 'He's weird' thought Michael, but he watched the boy anyway. If the boy was going to talk to him, he'd be stupid not to listen.

Alec turned over from his stuff to look back at Michael. "A petal stitch? No wonder you're having trouble." He said before picking up one of the practice patches as he began to show Michael how to do one explaining the steps before letting out a small sigh. "I'm still going to assume your terrible at sewing, so choosing a petal stitch wasn't that best option. But that's all on you, you'd probably be able to finish it and make an okay petal stitch if you put a bit more practice in." Alec said before picking up the leather jacket he'd been working on.

"I'm doing secret Santa as well. Thinking about it now, my idea is pretty stupid, but I still find it sort of funny." Alec said. "What I'm doing is putting Santa on a leather jacket. He said as he finished a few stitches in the practice patch, handing it too Michael. "There now if you try to follow that it hopefully will turn out as an okay stitch." He said grabbing out the design he'd created as an idea for the back of the leather jackets he was sewing the designs into and showing Michael. "Since Father Christmas is nice and gives kids' gifts and stuff. I thought it'd be fun to turn him edgy and put him on the back of a leather jacket." Alec explained. Before going on to address his own conscience.

"Sorry for barging in and sort of taking over your stuff." Alec said as he glanced back over at Michael before going back to his own work. "Since nobody had come over to help you with it yet somebody had to tell you, you weren't doing it right. Sorry it had to be me.." Alec said whispering the last part. His smile fell. He felt even more guilty in this manner because he knew if he had the options to take his actions back, he wouldn't. He was still helping Michael, right? So it didn't matter that much. Alec began starting his work up again. Before glancing over at Michael's within ten minutes of Alec starting his own work, Michael's actually looked semi-okay with the practice patch. "Seems like you pick up things quite fast." Alec commented, his voice trailing off a small smile back in place again.

As the boy lectured him on his sorry choose of stitch, he hummed. He just thought the petals were nice looking. Maybe he should change it? Before he could though the boy picked up a patched and explained the stitch and showed him what to do. It wasnt that complicated, he could do it. So he started to, after the boy handed the patched back.

The other boy was doing the secret santa too? Huh, small world i guess. And Saint Nick on a leather jacket? That was very muggle. "The gift sounds. . nice. Are you a muggle-born?" He asked politely, or so he hoped he did. He was proud of himself for not saying mud-blood as he had many slipups before with the degrading word.

The boy seemed like he regretted helping him, as if he was intruding. "It's fine, I needed the help anyway, thank you. . . what is your name again?" He asked as he stitched, the patterned looked very good and he felt proud of himself, maybe he can add this to the list if his spells. He turned watching the other boy work on his thing once he got the hang of sewing the pattern.

It was weird, sitting and doing something like this with another person. He wondered where he had met this boy before as he seemed familiar. "Do i know you from somewhere? You seemly oddly familiar? Are you a big first year or something?" He asked, hoping his questions didn't scare the poor boy off, as he was the only one who had helped him, even if he did it unasked.

Then it clicked in his head. "You're the boy from the bathroom! When i was reading, in October!" He said his eyes widened, "you interrupted my reading, that was you wasn't it.

Alec of course went back to working on his threading, till he was asked if he was Muggle-born. "Oh-um.. Pure-blooded actually. Doesn't every family muggle or not talk about Father Christmas.. Or Santa Clause? It's not just a muggle thing. My grandparents used to tell my dad he sent the presents through owl but had trained the owls to drop them by the trees. The payment being the biscuits you leave out. I like my father's story better, though. He used to tell me he came by Floo Network through our fireplace." Alec explained as he still kept at his work asking a question without even looking up at Michael. "What's your interest in knowing the blood status of people, anyway?"

Alec asked this but not giving enough time to answer as he went on. "Alec, my name is Alec." Alec said after that even though Michael had already recognized him. "That was me. Yeah, odd place to read, don't you think?" Alec said in return. "The spot in the library that I suggested is still there. Which means theirs not much of an excuse for you to read there now." Alec added, shifting to get a better angle as he added in another line to the red christmas hat meant to be atop Santa's head.

This idea seemed to be working out so far, Alec had to admit he was pretty pleased with himself and his work. It wasn't as flashy or intricate as any of the designs he'd made earlier on as ideas for the jacket(Mostly swirls coming down from the shoulders of the jacket) but they'd been turned down for a reason, anyway. This design was the more funny option, and the one that you could likely wear in place of an ugly christmas sweater if you wanted. It matched to the same amount of silliness is them. This was what was to be expected when you gave a child immature child like Alec a free-range on secret santa with the knowledge that the person he was doing secret santa for gave off leather jacket vibes. After Alec had realized it had become his quest to give this kid a leather jacket with an added twist, and the one for the cat just suddenly came along together in the end because it was funny. Just imagine them walking around Hogwarts. Amazing, although it probably wouldn't happen, Alec had his hopes high. It almost seemed like a must now.

Michael listened to him. Yes he bloody knew of Saint Nic, but his family celebrated the Yale holiday not Christmas with a old fat man coming down their chimney. He blushed when Alec asked about his question of his blood purity, and when he went to answer the older boy cut of his thoughts towards a reply. "I did stop by the spot you told me about but it's dusty, and messes with my allergies." He said, "don't fancy coughing up my lungs as i read."

He finished his work on the practice patch, smiling at it proudly. He held it up for Alec to see, "Oi, Alec, Whatcha think? Good enough to do the real thing?" He asked. He thought himself a natural, it was well stitched in his opinion, and he thought his petals were the same size.

Before Alec could speak though, he said "Also for your information, I don't care about blood purity, i was just asking, as my family doesnt celebrate Christmas spirit with a fat guy in a red suit, we celebrate family on that day, history." His voice was defensive, but he felt bad that he had came off as a blood purist, and felt hurt that Alec immediately thought that of him.

Alec shook with a small smile, "It's only dusty because no one likes to read the old fairy tales back their. Sort of like their forgotten books. I grab one to read every so often, you might enjoy one of them if you attempted to read them." Alec said in return to this. He quite liked the books back there, all of them like little treasures of his own. Especially when reading had become a pastime to avoid the Gryffindor common room in his first year. Now he was starting to realize he quite liked the craziness that was the Gryffindor common room as well. There was always something for you. Like the game of spin the bottle at the end-of-year slumber party. Now that.. That had been a very interesting time indeed. Exceedingly so with the people who chose spin the bottle with the intention of watching and not actually playing, then finally getting kissed. It was a crazy night to say the least, but a memorable one after the events of the year.

There was far too much that happened that year, and yet it somehow seemed to be only getting worse from here on out. Alec worked on the stitch finally get the Santa hat in he turned to address Michael and what he'd just said. "Oh-uh.. Well heh.. It's good. Your trying your best.. That's all that matters, right?" Alec said in response as he turned to his sheet of paper, switching one of his thread wool out for a different colour as he started working on the face and the rest of the Santa design. Finally deciding to respond to the other thing, Michael said as well.

"Ah, I see. Christmas isn't usually a family thing in my house. And nobody celebrates a fat guy in a red.. Or green suit Michael. It's more like a spirit. A childish thing to say, but.. I rather like the idea of Santa clause. Even if he is a bit creepy. The innocent idea of a man making toys for children and leaving it for them on Christmas because he wants to see the kids happy is nice." Alec said as he stitched more, watching his sewing quite carefully. He'd had the face and most of the suit done by now. and it'd only taken an hour or so of aimless talking? Not bad. Alec went on his way after finishing the Santa figure to stitch the words E.L.F. atop it. Before finally sewing the name of his secret santa on the front.

Tapping Michael's shoulder to show it to him, grinning. "What do you think? It's silly, I know.. But it was part of the point." Alec said as he overlooked the leather jacket. Quite proud of it and how it had turned out, he set it down so he could work on the next one. Knowing it would take less time since the jacket was smaller and made for a cat. Alec went on sewing, not looking up for a while, and staying quiet for the next peaceful thirty minutes as he sewed. Finally deciding to make some conversation once again. "What does your family do for Christmas?" He asked. Looking up from the already nearly done leather jacket. It was easy when you knew the exact details of what you were putting where for the designs, and could quickly reference it in your head as well, if of course it was needed.

Word Count is achieved with his post, Thread finished
Michael hummed at Alec's comment, "I might get one of the stories." He moved from the patch to his actually project, starting and slowing stitching. He wanted it perfect. He got started good when he was tapped on the shoulder, and shown the other boy's work. "It's nice, very professional for a Christmas jacket." He said, smiling slightly. He turned back to his work as silence fell between them. He worked on the wand holder with all his concentration, smiling at how it was turning out.

When Alec spoke again he barely lost his concentration, as he finished the wand holder and grabbed some more thread, starting on the name, "Well. . when i lived with my grandparents, we'd go and get a tree, it could take up hours to find one just right, but we always got the perfect one. We'd drag it home, my grandpa loved doing everything the muggle way, said it made him feel everything more. When we got home, he'd set it up and grandma would have hot chocolate for us, always hot and full of marshmallows." He smiled. "When everything was done, from making cookies, and eating Christmas supper, and talking about my great great grandparents, my grandma would get the presents and hand them out, one by one. It was perfect" he said. He hadn't realized he was crying, until a tear dropped on his arm. He quickly wiped his eyes. He had finished the gift and it looked nice to him so he stood. "Thanks for the help, but I think I'm going to go now. Bye Alec" he said as he collected his stuff and left.
A drawing of the gift will be posted at a later date, Michael has left the thread
