During the dance Ileen already thought about where to go next. She still had no clue where her date was and staying here with grumpy Zykeal wasn’t a particularly tempting option. Maybe she could leave and peek into the costume party? She really wanted to put her hand on the magic crackers and get some nice surprises instead of the unpleasant ones the evening had had in store for her so far. She was so busy staring darkly and being unhappy with the evening that she didn't even notice that she wasn't doing so badly at dancing after all. Not that it made much of a difference. Well, the evening was not bad and there was nothing in flames yet, so that was a good and surprising thing, but all of her friends had left and the young Slytherin started to feel uncomfortable. Too many people she didn’t like, too many professors and prefects around to jinx the idiots, plus, she really was starving!

So, when the dance was over, she already had opened her mouth to come up with some excuse to sneak away - something convincing like sorry, I have to powder my nose, when she was approached by… a tot with a paperback as a mask. Wow. Someone who had really pulled out all the stops to show how little he cared about the dresscode by making shameless fun of it. In which world was a paper bag a mask?
Ileen, who was already in a bad mood, pulled her eyebrows together and glared at the paper bag, who was quite rude to boot. She had already completely forgotten the Gryffindor next to her. “Excuse you… Crappy cookie Lady?” What was that supposed to mean? The young Slytherin frowned and tried to remember when she ever had shared cookies with someone. She had never. Also rude. Her cookies were delicious. “And rude. How would you know, paper bag tot?” Haha, he really was way shorter than her. With a grim smile she crossed her arms and toweder over the young boy. She knew that she knew him from somewhere. The words, the rude tone… was that Hanako? That would explain why he asked for Dee - they had some strange and weird relationship, which Ileen didn’t even try to understand. “And if I knew where Dee was, I wouldn't be bothering with you guys here. Plus. No. Thank you. I have a date.” At least somewhere. That was so typical! Whenever you needed Erik he was not there. Well, she could handle Hanako by herself. "Are you so desperate that you try to buy people for sweets? Did you ever get the idea to just ask someone for a dance in a friendly way? Probably not..."
A diabolic sparkle appeared in her brown eyes when she looked at the Slytherin. “Is that you, Hanako?” With a quick movement she would try to snatch the ‘mask’ from his head. She needed that for her peace of mind. This was simply not a costume. And teasing him was a positive side effect.

Casting automatically on the edge of her sight wasn't a good idea. The spent went flying past the little boy that approached Xailah. The boy was a fight stopper, it seemed. Did it matter whose side he was on? Maybe he was just a mediator. Anyway, Xailah's indifference to an adiaphoron that approached her was always amusing to observe.

Xailah turned to her and proclaimed out loud the previously passing subconscious guess Meenauh had — the boy was Vladimir. She nodded. Not the mediator, the target. Probably it wouldn't hurt if he'd stay down.

The next second another blink of steel caught her eye just nearby. The doll was attacking. Attacking... a different person. The person that touched Xailah's arm.

"Oh," Meenauh exclaimed clearly and loud, realising that the bluebell fire wasn't supposed to kill that doll. This had to be the same doll because clearly, it revolved around Xailah. Who saved it? Had it to be real fire. Is attacking at a ball was a coincidence, or someone's wicked attempt to keep the tradition of the school? Fire accompanying the ball? Was it... time?

The doll was there, right near them. Xailah went for it. The mediator went for it. Suddenly, out of nowhere no any other person, but Erin Ryan, a school famous appeared. Meenauh didn't see whether there was a mask on her or not, but she didn't need to. The voice was enough. The person didn't go for the doll, though. Meenauh wouldn't know where and why, but the priorities had to be put straight. Get rid of the danger — and with a flick of her wand and "Immobulus!" she aimed at the stupid piece of cloth. It had to end.
Action: Cast Immobulus at the doll.

Shaking her head, Atlas could feel her cheeks twitching at the force she was using to keep them in place as she watched Ethen miraculously shove a third croissant in his mouth as she felt her eyes drawn to the mashed desserts just barely staying put in his jaws.

Narrowing her eyes, Atlas strained her lips into a devilish grin as she grabbed a third croissant and forced it into her face. Placing her hands on her cheeks, the young girl massaged them gently hoping that she could magically make more room in her mouth. Snorting out of her nose, Atlas gasped abruptly before quickly taking Ethen's hands in hers as she pulled him out onto the dance floor.

Pulling his arms to the right, Atlas quickly picked up pace and started to run him in a circle gaining momentum with each step as she already felt her teeth trying to keep the croissants still. She had considered taunting Ethen but knew that at the rate they were going one word may have unleashed a fury of mushed food on those in the close vicinity.

Squeezing his hands twice, she could feel her head wobbling from side to side as pressure pushed on her temples. Her stomach churned as she closed her eyes hoping that she could calm her nerves and upset stomach from her comical mistake.

She knew Ethen would never let her go and because of this she was sure at some point soon she would be doused in his croissants but hopefully he would be able to hold it in until the two could clumsily stumble to a trash can.

Closing her eyes only seemed to make her nausea worse as she slowly opened them deciding at this moment to halt their spin only briefly before turning the two of them in the other direction. "Yuh wah ah chahlun, yuh guh ah chahlun!" She mumbled another snort escaping from her as the room became a speedy blur around the two gross lovebirds.

Paige wore heels today for one reason only. She knew she wasn't going to be dancing. She only came because she promised her mom she would. She was wearing the only dress she could find in her luggage. She glanced around, but she could see none of her friends. Hm... Okay. This is sad. How can you be lonely when you're not alone? Paige walked over to the drink table. She got herself a drink, although she wasn't very thirsty. I wish I had someone to dance with. She looked around again. Nope. No Marco. Maybe Harmony is here? But no, she didn't see her. Paige grabbed a croissant and slowly nibbled on it. She loved croissants. Aren't balls supposed to be the day where love happens and stuff? Unless that's just in books. She doesn't know if it was the punch, but she overheard many boys asking girls to date them. But she was not one of the lucky few. She couldn't even get a boy to ask her to dance. She sat down at a table to fidget with nails. What she wouldn't give for someone to dance with her.

Athlete. she must have been a runner. The sort that would run away.

The girl avoided Erin's open-handed attack, but there was a difference between the two of them. She did not need to preserve her fragile ego. Being called a 'mean name' was not going to keep her up at night. She was off @Kyle DeRook and as far as Erin was concerned that was all that mattered.

Kyle... well, he had become a cardboard cutout of a date. He was standing there but he was not responding. He had already served his intended purpose, if he wished to end their arrangement here and now to minimize the blood on his hands she would not blame him. She just did not know when or how to stop. There was this pulling sense she lacked the ability to define that she felt, this internal want to stay. A want.

A want likely unrequited.

She walked away.

Her series of actions that would follow from here would go unchanged. Selim Faust was linked with Jack, her Jack. He was valued. Hurting him would hurt Jack, not nearly as much as he hurt her but that was a work in progress. He would suffer for his crimes.

Katherine had just got her fist wrapped by the nurse and had to go through lots of chatter and advice that she didn't need, all she needed was a small pep talk with this basic dog. Even the term dog was too pure for her, Katherine had to give her a lesson on who she really is. Katherine had just fixed her makeup but she decided to enter without a mask, she wasn't going to hide under one.

Katherine wasn't a coward she wanted the girl to really see who she was, not some first-year toy. Katherine was the bloody devil call it that and you don't want to get on her bad side. She spits fire, she isn't spat on. She had just entered the ball again wand in her tiny pocket that was there in her dress, unnoticeable.

She had scanned the room marking her prey, she walked confidently yet with poise and class, like those models on the catwalk, she had a stoic face on and sharp icy greyish eyes marking her target. She didn't pace either just a simple walk marking everyone and everything, she had nothing in her but revenge, she was in a bad mood from the beginning.

That girl had just angered everything within her, Katherine had never wanted to torment someone so bad before, she was trying to control everything in her, something deep down her hoping she doesn't lose it. Before she went she took a glass containing a drink and drank it while keeping her sharp eyes on her victim.

Yet placed it down calming her a bit but yet still a rage was alive in her, she had walked to them and stood in front of her with a huge smirk and spoke "I'm sorry to interrupt your..", she paused and looked down then back up at the girl then back to Alexander who has no level. Drawing a smirk on her face yet keeping her sharp and icy eyes on him.

She spoke again"your talk, but I must say something to the", b**** "girl who had something to say about me", she couldn't help but let out a little grin yet keep her smirk, looking at the floor then back at her"Now if I'm guessing correctly you are from beauxbatons, sad and I thought they had elegance and poise both on how they speak and act what a shame",

she spoke with a disappointed face, and quickly in the matter of seconds she had turned her face into full stoic yet with sharp icy eyes focusing on her" anyways I won't judge, now let's get into the serious talk shall we", she had spoken with more seriousness in her tone. at this point she was glad she was tall, it's so she can reach the idiot girl who had just spoke about her.

"You speak of me not knowing who I am, but that's not even the problem, you are on Hogwarts premises aka my school, so if you came here to say something about me in my school, then love that's even sloppier, even if I didn't hear it many others would surely come up to you and attack you harshly and quite rudely, I don't wish that on anyone but if you came here to talk crap about me at least don't be sloppy about it",

Katherine spoke with the same stoic expression and sharp eyes, yet keeping her voice normal not going louder or softer just clear enough for her to hear.Katherine was going to let loose hell fire on her but with class and poise. What was the term, ah giving her a taste of her own medicine but katherine style.Katherine had quite a lot in store just for her and this was just a small taste of it.

Once August agreed to get something to drink, she walked towards the drink table, making her way around those that were still dancing. The music kept going on in the background, and as she sipped on her drink, that tasted quite sweet, she let her eyes wander on the dancefloor; there were definitely less people now, probably because it was starting to get late, but that didn't mean that the Ball was over.

Adjusting the mask on her face, she just enjoyed the music as she lightly moved from one foot to the other, not properly dancing, but not standing still either. So far the night had been extremely pleasant; she had made a new friend, and no major drama -that she knew of- had happened, even if the apparition of the knight ghost did destabilize her for a second.

It was nice to have a quite night, meet new people and just have fun.

Her train of thoughts got interrupted by a person coming in her line of sight; the boy was wearing an argent, metallic mask that covered almost all of his face; from what she could see of it, she assumed he wasn't someone she already knew, and when he spoke she had the confirmation.

Slightly surprised by his offered hand, Lydia stared at it for a couple of seconds; she wasn't expecting another invite, but she really liked dancing so far, so why refuse the chance of having more fun and making more friends?

She turned towards August and asked him if it was alright if they could catch up later, then placed down her glass and turned back towards the new boy. "Of course," she said and placed her hand into the boy's one, before heading towards the dancefloor. A little voice in her mind tried to ruin her night, whispering to her that she knew why both him and August had asked her to dance, that it wasn't really because of her...

However, the young girl tried her best to ignore that, putting the voice aside and giving the mysterious boy a polite smile. "Did you have a nice night so far?" she asked as she placed her hand over his shoulder, the smile still on her lips.

"Thanks for coming with me" Akari chirped warmly.
It was probably quite apparent by now that the sparkling smile across her face would not be leaving any time soon.
He really knew how to charm a girl. Each of his comments elated her more and more.
"The same goes for you" She replied, immediately attempting to reciprocate his sweet remarks. She knew that there was more she wanted to say, but she didn’t add anything for fear of saying something idiotic so instead, she just basked in the blissfulness of the moment.

"Ready for...?" She asked with a slightly suspicious giggle, but then before she knew it she was up in the air.
Her grasp on his shoulders tightened automatically to help her keep her balance. The faint crimson colour that happened to be a common occurrence around Drew, to no surprise came back once again. Although, now it happened to be unlike all the other times, for they had been caused by embarrassment. This time it was not embarrassment, no definitely not. Actually quite far from it.

Naturally, they had moved a little closer after she was lowered back to the floor, so rather than just having her hands delicately placed back on his shoulders, she held onto him in a form that was more like an embrace.
He surpassed her in height by quite a lot, but conveniently she had worn heels, so they aided and enabled her to lightly rest her head against his shoulder.

@Lydia Cooper

But did she really?

Did she really understand the boy before her as well as she seemed to think? There were things he knew that were too terrible to reveal to anybody but the most resilient or insane of individuals, a distinction that was often the same. Besides, if perfumes and appearances were merely complementary facades for a baser skeletal structure that bore inherent beauty, then Lydia must have borne some of that beauty herself, even without her mixed blood.

The slower melodies accompanying them at the time seemed to reason that slow dancing was the most likely option. Nigh in unison, the Gryffindor's free hand smoothed around her hip, coming to rest on the small of her back. Gingerly he pressed his body against her, looking down into her eyes until the point in which she began to question him of his night. A quaint grin took his lips, a girlish giggle escaping him as he tried to read her while he decided how to respond. Being lost in his overwhelming thoughts had given the boy scarcely an opportunity to experience the party in full. But neither did he want to confess these burdens to the current object of his fascination, lest she too succumbs to its colossal weight.

"Uneventful," he went with that.

His hand relinquished her's, only to find itself smoothing a caress upon her cheek before cupping it intimately. Gingerly he pressed her head against the fabric on his chest where his velvet scarf formed a soft cushioning embrace. Coming to rest his chin against the top of her head, they swayed together in an air of familiarity and intimacy. For once, he was grateful for the suffocating thickness of his scarf. Otherwise, could she feel the racing of his anxious heart beneath it?

"And what about you? How was your night?"

Of course, Lydia had no idea of the reasons why this boy had decided to ask her to dance. All that she knew from her experiences so far with people, was that they liked to be in her company, but most never stuck around to actually be her friend. When it came to boys, the whole thing was amplified, the scar left by Rafael still open in her heart; despite her usual positive attitude, since finding out about her veela blood, she had found herself thinking more in a pessimist way. She had done the same thing with August while they were dancing, she had let her doubts and fears take control and almost ruin the night.

The boy stare at her as they danced, creating some kind of privacy between them despite all the people that were still in the ballroom. She couldn't really understand how she felt about it; is was a little destabilizing being so close with someone she had just met, but at the same time this was a dance, and when people danced they were supposed to be close to each other.

"Uneventful is not that bad for a Ball at Hogwarts, trust me," she said as a small giggle left her lips. She stared back at the boy and almost talked again, when he took away his hand from hers; she raised an eyebrow, confused by the gesture, only to then feel her face become hot and most likely bright red when he caressed her cheek.

What was happening? She was confused by the gesture, but still followed the movement and rested her head over the boy's chest; her heart was beating fast, the drum loud in her ears, and she was barely able to hear the music in the background. The scarf felt nice and it made her feel comfortable as her mind filled up with a storm of thoughts, the most prominent one came accompanied by the face of a certain Quidditch Captain.

Lydia couldn't help it; she was a teenager experiencing her first real crush, so of course her mind would connect everything to him. The little voice in her head kept telling her that she should have danced that way with Rafael at the ball in April, that was how things were supposed to go- No. She needed to stay out of that place, she couldn't let herself be dragged into that black hole of self pity and regrets.

It took her a moment to answer to the boy's question, and when she did her voice sounded just a little bit tense. "It was pretty calm! I made a new friend, and well, hopefully two now," she said, stating that she hoped she could become friend with him as well. "My name's Lydia, second year Hufflepuff,"*
