Friends on the Other Side
One of Spencer's favorite movies was The Princess and the Frog. It was a sweet film from the muggle franchise called 'Disney'.
She spent years figuring out how to read tarot cards, because the bad guy always looked really cool doing it. She shuffled her deck, which her Mama had gotten her. She remembered that day fondly.color
*FLASHBACK*
Mama had come home and saw Spencer watching the same movie yet again.
"Haven't you gotten tired of that movie yet?" she laughed.
Spencer turned around and giggled out a 'no'.
Mama smiled and asked why she liked it so much.
"The bad guy, Dr. Facilier, can read people's futures with his cards! I wish I could do that.
Mama smiled softly.
" I have to run and get something for you. Tomorrow's your 9th birthday, after all."
When Mama got back, she got attacked with hugs from Spencer.
"Hey, Spence-bear. Do you want to open your present early?" Mama had asked.
Spencer jumped up and down giddily, nodding and laughing. Mama gave her a small package, wrapped in green paper. She tore it open and squealed when she saw the brand new package of perfect tarot cards.
" Thank you Mama! Thank you so much! It's perfect!" She hugged Mama before taking her cards and trying them out. She had lots of research to do.
*END FLASHBACK*
It really had been a lot of research. She finished shuffling the now worn and torn deck, and asked her question.
"À quoi puis-je m'attendre de cette année?"
"What can I expect from this year?"
The cards seemed to almost throw themselves from the deck as she shuffled loosely, allowing them to fall out. She placed the cards out and read them, joy and hope finding their way into her heart. This year was going to be a good one.
She started to shuffle again, ready to ask another question, when she heard footsteps approaching.

Life is short, darling. Reach for the stars before they burn out.
