While Thomas was attempting to antagonize everyone’s favorite perky blonde Ravenclaw, Maria took a glance at the other girl’s sate. The boy, who she was sure was a Quidditch player (yes, the broom gave it away) gave her a small smile when they approached. He seemed to want to stay out of trouble, and internally Maria wanted to advise him that with his choice of date, it may not be an easy feat. When he’d decided he’d poked the bear long enough her date “kindly” led her away from the pair. As they walked, Maria once again scanned the crowd, her habit of observing the room and hypervigilance keeping her on edge.

She half-heard his question, offering a quip in return “Well, you aren’t ugly-“ her sentence ended just as fast as it began and instead ended with “-but that thing is” mumbled under her breath.

At first she thought her eyes were just playing tricks on her - a small insignificant shadow gracing her vision. But it was not insignificant, nor was it a shadow. It was a doll. It was not like the ones she used to have, displayed on store shelves, made of plastic with an array of clothing. No, this one screamed evil . Clearly it’s manufacturer’s didn’t grace it with good looks but it was likely more for function.

And here she though her date’s inability to speak in coherent sentences was the weirdest thing she’d encounter tonight.

Maria saw the doll slip into the shadows. She did not know where it was going but more than anything she sensed it was not good. It wasn’t a trick, it definitely wasn’t a treat – it felt like a trap. Or maybe it was trying to trap something – or someone.

A fight broke out somewhere, only amplifying her distress. Brief images of a dark figure in a hole in the common room and a whispered voice faulting her for seeing something resurfaced in her mind. Would this haunt her in the same way that experience would? To this day she hadn’t spoken about the event, nor did she question it. But now, this seemed to become a pattern. See bad things, more bad things happen.

A gasp would escape the Huffle’s lips, her eyes widening. “Did you see that?” She would turn to meet her date’s gaze, his own already questioning what she saw and looking for it. “I saw something it ran over there. I think it’s trying to hide.” She would point to where she saw it, and in a moment that would make you question if maybe this recklessness warranted her a change of house, she went after it. The adrenaline made her ears ring as she tried to stop it from getting away, hopefully her date had the sense to follow her or get help. More than likely he’d probably think she’d gone mad. However, impressions on acquaintances did not matter to the young, impulsive girl at the moment. No, she had to make sure she’d not been “seeing” fleeting figures again.

Pumpkin juice being thrown around Thomas was not really an abnormal situation, it would seem when it came to pairing him and dances. However, this time the pumpkin juice was not thrown at him; no, what had caught Santario’s attention was a goblet sailing to the floor as she walked around, keeping an eye on her friend, her wand still in hand from her previous confrontation. Why would the girl throw her goblet at the floor like that? Surly, the pumpkin juice was not that terrible? Granted, Santario had yet to taste any of the fares for the evening; she doubted that that was the issue.

Her eyes traveled to the ground, trying to see what in the world it was that Maria could have been violently throwing her goblet at. This action reminded Santario of an entirely different night. A night during summer camp at the campfire stories where she saw Meenauh and older Gryffindor perfect fall into the bluebell flames. She remembered finding its tiny footprints in the ground around their feet, only cementing in her mind that it had tried unsuccessfully to kill the girl it had seemingly pushed into the fire. Santario sincerely hoped she wasn’t right at what she had stated earlier this night and at what she might see if she was unlucky enough.

@Piérre Marchonné has successfully mounted his broom

While the action continuing to take place near the entrance of the ball would not be on every dancer's radar, a new group of combatants squared up to scuffle. This time, two conflicts merged into one, with @Vladimir Athanatos and @Selim Faust versus @Xailah Alptraum and @Meenauh Silmataurea. As Vladimir sought to find the troublesome doll, Xailah attempted to stop him. Selim attempted to stop her. Meenauh attempted to stop Selim. Suddenly, the three were embroiled in combat.
Initiative is rolled to determine the order of action
Xailah: 1d100 [62], Selim: 1d100 [27], Meenauh: 1d100 [35]
Initiative order is Xailah > Meenauh > Selim

Xailah casts Full-Body Bind Curse on Vladimir[WDC 14]
Xailah's cast: 1d20 [15] + 10 = 25 (success)
Xailah's aim: 1d20 [11] + 9 = 20 (failure)
Vladimir's evasion: 1d20 [16] +15 = 31 (success)

Meenauh casts Banishment Charm on Selim [WDC 12]
Meenauh's cast: 1d20 [12] + 15 = 27 (success)
Selim's Evasive Maneuvers: 1d10 [2] (failure)
Meenauh's aim: 1d20 [4] + 9 = 13 (failure)
Selim's evasion: 1d20 [16] + 10 = 26 (success)

Selim punches Xailah
Selim's aim: 1d20 [8] + 10 + 2 (Martial Artist)= 20 (success)
Xailah's evasion: 1d20 [6] + 8 = 14 (failure)
Damage: (100*5*0.9)/5 = 90
Xailah's health: 1110/1200

The two girls weren't having any luck. Though they were faster than the would-be bodyguard, neither of them could accomplish their tasks. Was the frustration starting to show. after having lost the doll? Perhaps Selim had been too successful a distraction, since he easily sidestepped the attack coming his way and attacked Xailah. Though he hadn't arrived in time to alter her spell's path, he luckily hadn't needed to. Vladimir was safe as he once again attempted to diffuse violence with violence. The attack hadn't done much damage, though there were many more effective options available to him. Perhaps it was a sign that he once again wasn't trying to start a fight, but stop one. Still, he had laid a hand on her, which probably wouldn't go over well.

Elsewhere, @Erin Ryan was trying to keep her adrenaline pumping by starting a fight right after her first one finished.
Erin pushes Illowy
Erin's aim: 1d20 [8] + 7 = 15
Illowy's evasion: 1d20 [18] + 8 = 26

Having just seen Erin viciously attack Quinn, @Illowy Magnard was more than prepared to step away from the oncoming hand. Would she take this as a slight, or just Erin being Erin? Would Kyle hold Erin's hand?

Naturally, there was the matter of the disappearing doll. It had successfully hidden from everyone except for @Maria Dee, but that didn't stop others from trying to find what they knew was there. After Selim remarked on the doll's existence, both Vladimir and his date @Aaron Jones (NPC Madeline Nakamura) turned a curious eye to the floors. @Thomas Lestrange looked for what his date was looking at, while @Maya Galim looked around to assure Headmaster Plott that absolutely nothing was going wrong at the ball.
Madeline seeks
Doll Hide DC: 28
1d20 [7] + 7 = 21 (failure)
Vladimir seeks
Doll Hide DC: 28
1d20 [9] + 5 = 14 (failure)
Thomas seeks
Doll Hide DC: 28
1d20 [5] + 8 +5 (Maria's guidance)= 18 (failure)
Maya seeks
Doll Hide DC: 28
1d20 [19] + 20 = 39 (success)

The doll hid really well. For all they knew, it had folded itself like an octopus and slipped into a completely imperceivable crack in the wall. It wasn't imperceivable though, as Professor Galim's trained eyes spotted the vile animated creature in a rare moment of movement. There was a filthy, animated doll running around, not to mention wands out and spells being cast. Which of those things was more important to her? Or perhaps, was there a reason to tell Plott that all was well and ignore the carnage? Perhaps...

There was only one person in-between the doll and the freedom of escape this time: Maria. Not sure she wanted to get involved in all this, danger always seemed to be cozying up to her anyway. Her thoughts were ones that she had to come to quickly, and maybe it would pay off. At least @Santario Martin's attention had been drawn by the act of throwing a goblet at the thing.
Maria throws goblet at Admirer
Maria's aim: 1d20 [17] + 8 = 25 (failure)
Admirer's evasion: 1d20 [20] + 10 = 30 (success)

San looks for what is being attacked
1d20 [1] + 8 + 5 (Maria's guidance) = 14 (failure)

This doll is on the ball. No one can touch it, no one can see it. The way it moves defies all logic, and it blends in with its scenery. Though since it had been found, it would try to leave. It wanted to wait for everyone to go first, but some people were just too observant. As for San... just as she tried to see where the goblet was supposed to go, a random rowdy dancer bumped into her, knocking her off the trail.

As the doll makes a mad dash to left the ball for good, it wouldn't be able to resist glancing at his gothic goddess for the inspiration to go on. She was being attacked by some slimy kid! That was almost worse than being her best friend! It might have been able to escape. No one could seem to catch it for more than a second after all, just slip into obscurity and continue to watch its love from the shadows until the right time came to strike. But no, this was for m'lady. The rapier was not grabbed, so it would be reclaimed. EN GARDE!
Admirer attacks Selim
Selim's Evasive Maneuvers: 1d10 [7] (failure)
Admirer's aim: 1d20 [15] + 10 = 25 (failure)
Selim's evasion: 1d20 [19] + 10 = 29 (success)

Stabbing forward with the clearly real blade, the slippery Selim would once again avoid any personal harm. Because of the large sword, it was no longer hidden to the group nearby.
Summary
Maya saw the doll and can say she saw everything that happened this round, including the fight
Maria missed it with her goblet, but can still see it
Xailah, Meenauh, Selim, and Vladimir can now see the doll (at the start of this upcoming round)
If she was watching Vladimir still, Madeline Nakamura can now also see the doll.
It's holding a rapier and tried to stab Selim.

  • There will be a mod post every Friday, meaning the next mod will be on December 11th.
  • There are two parties going on simultaneously, the Masquerade in the Ballroom and the Costume Party in the Rehearsal Room. Both are on the fourth floor of Hogwarts, so travelling between the two does not take much time. For ease of moderation, please clearly denote when you are going from one to the other. During moderation, this takes a full action.
  • Your characters are no longer able to join the ongoing Hunt. People who have already joined the Hunt can still travel between all three locations, but each movement will still take a full action unless otherwise stated.
  • Because changing parties is considered an action, this means you can switch once a week, though that also means you won't be able to take another action until the next mod.
  • Actions besides changing parties are any attempt to do something to someone else such as attack, investigate, cast any spell, or generally anything that has a chance to fail depending on your stats. Minor interactions that are agreed upon between two players are free to take as much as you like. If you're unsure whether your intended plan involves an action, you can feel free to message me for clarification. Please do not roll your own actions even if they are minor.

action: being scared to death and accepting (?) Roberta's ( @Sylvain Indarys ) request to join him for a dance.
Scary. This place was scary. It wasn't like he hadn't been to parties and stuff before, he had to, as a kid, for family occasions and stuff. But those were fairly rare, his family barely ever went to those. And even when they did, he always just hid behind his parents. He was used to being alone at Hogwarts, he even had been to a few parties alone but the atmosphere made him feel so much more scared for some reason. And as if the room itself wasn't enough to make him uncomfortable, the girl who had asked him to come in in the first place was scarier. He wasn't sure why but looking at her made him feel like he was staring at a teacher or something.

Noah loved to say he could read people, the reality behind that was questionable. He only guessed things, he never got feedback and got to confirm his theories about people and such, although he wasn't aware of this either, he'd barely ever thought about how the world might actually not be how he sees it to be, he was just a stupid idiot child after all. When he looked at the girl in front of him, he got the impression that she had a lot of confidence in herself, the way she walked, the way she looked when she glanced back at him, it was almost shocking to him how fearless she looked, especially in comparison to him. He was avoiding looking anywhere but down, he just kept looking up at her slightly when she looked at him, in case she was trying to signal something to him or something but ultimately, Noah's body language easily gave his feelings off.

What was up with her though? She just randomly walked out and asked him to join her... he still wasn't entirely sure if this counted as her date but it was still too much considering she didn't even know his name. Was she really that confident or whatever? She didn't need to worry about anything and could just say anything to anyone as she likes? But still, why him? Literally no one had bothered to ask him so far, especially not someone who just set their eyes on him. People didn't particularly like or dislike him from what he could say, he wasn't avoided or anything, according to what he thought. They just ignored him, he wasn't really worth anyone hating him either. It sometimes made him wonder if that was just how boring he lived his life, which made this interaction that much more scary but at the same time, really exciting. Occasions where he was pushed like this were rare, and as much as he couldn't say he liked them, he couldn't deny it felt somewhat exciting, despite him feeling disgusted at the fact.

What concerned him most right now was the fact that she seemed to be expecting him to follow her, to the centre of the stage. Of course, this didn't really have to mean anything, did it? But even Noah wasn't dumb enough to just brush off the fact that this probably meant she was expecting him to dance. He did plan on coming to the party but things had taken a turn, he had never expected things to go anything like this, not in the slightest. And despite him somewhat dreading it, he felt his body tense up a bit as she turned around. And he might as well have died instantly as she asked him to dance with her. The only time that kept him from it was her voice, it didn't sound fierce at all, it sounded kind, somewhat comforting actually. Of course, he still flinched slightly still at it, it was kind of believe that she actually wanted to dance with him.

He was really just too shocked to say anything but make weird noises of confusion as he tried to process what was happening. It took him a handful of seconds before he was able to use his vocal cords to string together a few words of the English language. "Yeah? I... If it's okay with you?" Or was she just being nice to him and actually didn't want to dance with him but said it because she has to uphold her manners or something like that? That was possible, wasn't it? "I mean don't mind or anything... if you're sure you'd be okay with that?"

But as soon as he said that his brain immediately started questioning why he sounded so eager in the first place, it wasn't like he wanted to dance, why was he making it sound like he did want to dance anyway? Wait, he hadn't even given any thought to whether he wanted to dance with her or not, it was almost like he assumed it was obvious. What the hell was wrong with him? But it was too late to say anything now. And although he didn't realise it, he wouldn't have said anything even if he could.

It was hardly a fight. Xailahs spell whizzed past Vladimir. She didn't expect to hit him- but would she have liked to? Certainly. But alas, the spell had missed. And that was fine. There was always next time. Besides, he was going to die anyway. No one got out of deals with hags, without having to pay a price. The metamorph was quite frankly, tired of all the strange happenings in the school. Shadow spiders. Crazy nurses. Drugged candies- attempting to cannibalize ones roommate was not a particularly fun experience. Vladimir always seemed to have some sort of involvement with the things that happened. Coincidence? I think not. He had accumulated a lot of enemies. Was the metamorph one of them? No. But she certainly was no friend either. She was just a child who was fed up with the twisted state of the reality that she, and those she cared for, were having to live in. An animal, tired of the prodding.

She stood with one hand resting on her hip, as she looked towards Vladimir. She cocked her head to one side. Next time. A spell would be fired from behind. Meenauh? Now what was happening? On the side opposite of where the spell had been cast, Xailah would feel something touch (hit?? she couldn't tell) her arm- naturally, she pulled away. She would turn to find a rather small child standing near her. She blinked dully at the kid, with those eerie feline eyes of hers. A part goblin? Or just another youngling that had been smuggled into Hogwarts, and was in need of attention? The school seemed to have a lot of the latter. Maybe the child had mistaken the Masquerade for being the costume party? Whatever the case was, it wasn't exactly her problem. Uninterested, the lioness began to turn away, to say something to Meenauh.

Xailah had started to cool down. The mild adrenaline spikes began to wear off. "That was Vladimir Athanatos." She said quietly to her friend. "Someone will get him eventually." Whatever that was supposed to mean. A shoulder stiffly shrugged. She turned again, this time to see a glint of metal bobbing about. It would swing at the child that had previously, and oh-so-weirdly grabbed her arm. Oh- wasn't that the rapier from earlier? Indeed. And there was the doll. Again. Why hadn't it left yet? Didn't matter. This time it would be caught. Maybe. "That is enough. Come here." The Gryffindor lunged towards the little creature, completely ignoring the rapier that it held. Seemingly sharp objects had never been a deterrent for the girl.

Most people who knew the raven aired girl had observed at least once in their interactions that she usually avoided being touched in most situations. So it could be assumed that the girl didn’t like to be touched. Whether that was true or not, who knew? It didn’t much matter at the moment what people did or didn’t know because right as she was about to have one of her fears confirmed, some random person bumped into her. This caused her to stumble to the side, missing where the goblet clattered to the ground. As far as she was concerned, Maria might have thrown her goblet because he had given Marion more attention than he gave her. Logically females who didn’t understand Thomas’s motives in this situation might react that way.

Merde!* Watch where you are going T'es une raclure de bidet*!” Switching between French and English was a good indicator that she was starting to lose her temper, and she currently didn’t care who saw. She pulled the end of her dress out from the other person’s shoe and shoved them away from her. She would Huff past Thomas and Maria, trying to make her way through the throng of people towards the door.

Maybe she should just leave? She could run down to the common room and change into warm clothes and go sit in the courtyard to cool down instead. Or she could skip that and just go freeze outside by the lake like last time when she let her lips turn purple. Either way, she figured she was too angry to stay. There were just too many people, and trying to find and catch something presumably as small as a hag doll in the mass of feet of people on the dance floor was going to be next to impossible now that she couldn’t find what Maria’s goblet had aimed at. It would be long gone by now, and that was even if Maria was aiming at anything in particular. Maybe she just really hated Thomas and expressed it in a violent act. She took a deep breath… Not her monkeys, not her circus.

His attack barely fazed the girl with eyes similar to his on every other day but this one. She didn't seemed concerned by him in the slightest, rightfully underestimating him and his short stature. Selim, of course, didn't give two rats' tails about her opinion of him, the more he was disregard, underestimated, the better.

She did deign to speak a few idiotic words though. Directed to the other girls that had also decided that rules didn't matter and used her magic against him (And failed, Selim was trained to evade attacks, not like his small form had any strength to punch someone's lights out, or to tough it out through hard hits, hence, evasion.)

"That was Vladimir Athanatos. Someone will get him eventually."

Selim rolled his eyes, obviously unimpressed by her words.

"Your peers are good for nothing except experimenting." the crueler voice in his head whispered scathingly with dark mocking, making Selim's fingers twitch with a subconscious intent to kill.

"They're all out to get Athanatos, it's only a matter of time before they're out to get you too. Finish them before they finish you, or hide, hide, hide away from it all-" His voice of paranoia was as paranoid as ever, but it had a point, did it not?

Bloodlust had begun to scream in the back of his mind, spewing vivid images of the deaths he should enact on his peers. Bile rose in his throat, but his professional side stayed steadily in control.

Then something came at him, instinctively, he dodged again, watching cooly as a glint of hard steal passed his face a few centimeters away. To compensate for the sudden shift of his weight used to move away from the rapier, he danced back on light feet, adjusting into a more stable position.

The girl he had attacked spoke, her words ignored in light of the new pint-sized danger, before jerking forwards towards where the doll had landed after it's failed attack. Selim smirked, another mask slipping over him.

"You'll have to try harder than that, doll." His tone was mocking as he egged the tiny, obviously sentient thing on. Seems Vladimir wouldn't have to look much longer for his target, now Selim just had to hope the two girls wouldn't be stupid and try to go for the Ravenclaw instead of the very obvious, imminent danger in front of them.

Let's just say he didn't have high hopes, the bar was low because he doubted the brattish mentality of his peers would exceed expectations.

If the cat-like girl's attack worked, he'd sit back and stand by.

If it didn't, Selim would swiftly pulled his chopsticks out and go for the doll, blunt force obviously wouldn't work, so he'd try and swoop in and grab it while it was busy evading the cat girl's attack. In his grip, he'd stick it where the heart on a normal human was, regardless if he pierced his own hand or not.

Selim wasn't used to fighting pint-sized opponents, he doubted anyone was, really, but he knew where killing blows would be on humans, and he could mimic those points on a voodoo doll.

Honestly, this whole ball was just troublesome.

Their incredibly romantic date was far from over, just some trollop scolding her date. Erin tried to put the girl in her place, the floor. Brute strength, her perennial ally. Accuracy had sadly abandoned her. She would attempt to push @Illowy Magnard but she would step back and out of the way. Alas poor Kyle (who did not post) was unmoving, "back off B-----!" The part Veela snarled as she took another step towards the girl who had unwittingly engaged a hostile entity.

The other melee in progress was not relevant to her. She did not know nor did she care to understand their fascination with some pretty boy Ravenclaw and his gothic understudy. Wait, she recognized him. Fox. No, not Fox. Snake? She pondered as her eyes visibly narrowed and the gears in her head started to smoke. She was not built to think, she was built to act. He was surely some animal, at least in name. She had forgotten he did not even comprise of a whole animal, merely the Fang.

She had not spoken to Jack Burnett since the Blossom Ball, not did she ever intend to. He did not care, he never did. She had no altruistic hope that he had gained what he needed, that he had learned a lesson never offered or that he was happy now. Why should he be happy? Why should anyone be happy? Especially those that were special to him?

This was jealousy, not that she would recognize the sentiment. This bubbling resentment. The abject sadness, the pangs of a broken heart she no longer even had. Unfortunately for @Selim Faust, he would serve as a lightning rod for her pain.

Would Xailah be thankful for Erin's help? Who the hell cared.

The click of her heels was drowned out by the chatter of the crowd, the melee already in progress and the music that filled the air. She did not look much like a fighter, not in the layers of frills she had donned and her flaxen locks. That is for those that failed to observe the girl whom was far from lithe, her exposed shoulders were tense and as she walked muscles rippled beneath her tanned skin. Her long hair covered a number of scars on her back.

She had a message to give Jack. If Kyle's cousin pursued, she would give her a stiff arm to back off. Failing that, after she was done with Selim she would finish Illowy off. "Give Fox" she was not going to even give him the dignity of his name, the moniker he or his friend chose would suffice. She did not consider nicknames to carry the same level of affection and intimacy that others did. Give Fox "THIS!"

Ky hadn't even the chance to speak before his... date, made her attempt to assert some level of dominance, either over the situation or over Illowy herself. As though trying to mark her territory. If that was her angle, she was to be in for a rude awakening. Illowy's ghostly gaze shifted from her cousin to the blonde, granting a look as though questioning who the hell Erin thought she was talking to her like that. It was no argument that Illowy wasn't a match for brawn, not like Kyle was. However, that didn't mean she couldn't fight if she needed to. The brunette was still an athlete after all, and she was on the dueling team. She had her own skills and strengths she could rely on. As her older housemate forced out her arm to shove her, Illowy evaded the assault with a level of grace and poise, eyes narrowing at the girl, as though daring her to try again.
"back off B-----!"

Pale eyes widened as the words left the blonde's mouth, almost stunned. Then again, she would expect someone like her to stoop to such crude name calling. While Erin might've admired Kyle's temper and ferocity in a fight, she hadn't a hope to realize that was a family trait. They didn't know when to quit or back down; and as the older snake stepped to her, Illowy didn't flinch. The brunette simply squared her shoulders and held her chin strong.

Whatever the older girl had in store for her seemed to be put on the back burner. Like some sort of squirrel on coffee, Erin's attention was captured elsewhere as she started towards some other sorry soul with the intention of starting another fight. Even still though, as the girl walked away Illowy stayed tense, holding herself tall as she looked to her cousin, "A real charmer ye picked out there, Kyky." she spoke sarcastically as she crossed her arms over her chest. Honestly, of all the people in the school he could have picked out, it had to be her? It wasn't the Illowy couldn't see the appeal he might've in the older Slytherin... but she was certainly a far cry from the type of girl she would have picked out for him.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Event The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
@Lydia Cooper

There was a certain allure to the darkness of the lighting. The slow, melodic music accompanied by the soft gaze of the moonlit night casting vibrant reflections against shining suits and curved ornate dresses gave a surreal feeling to the whole event. It was like watching antelopes frolicking in a day dream, unaware of the lions which prowled toward them from between the tall grasses of the savanna. By then, the event had slowed down significantly. People were dizzy, spinning each other around in circles on the ballroom floor. Some were seated down on chairs, their heads reeling from exertion. Others hid away in the bathroom, belching their stomachs’ contents.

There he was, donning on his visage an opera mask taken from a Venetian stage play. He was dressed in a finely pressed black suit, layered over in a vaulting red scarf.

The drink station manager returned to him then, setting a glass before him. The red liquid within bubbled and fizzled. With a reassuring smile, Valentine looked to the older student with narrowed, glassy eyes and mouthed his gratitude before so easily sliding the glass from the counter and taking a sniff before sipping the contents. Lightly sucking his teeth afterwards, the Gryffindor moved with purpose to return to seclusion, where he could continue to try and fathom just exactly what he thought he was doing. Not necessarily here or now. In general, like with himself. It was times like these that he wondered about all the unanswerable questions both about his direct miserable life, and life in general. His thoughts, a dangerous abyss to be lost within.

. . . Hmm?

His line of thought was abruptly distorted by the entry of another into his personal circle. Clad fully in white, the bunny girl seemed to be just as unaware of his presence as he was hers.

A dance, my dear?

The thought bubbled within him like the fizzy ovules in his drink. On any other night, he might have restrained himself. But this was a party, and in the spur of a moment, he had found the perfect excuse to relieve himself from the haunting voices of his own mind.

The chink of an abandoned beverage glass striking the table was accompanied swiftly by a soft set of footsteps. He came up from the side, nearing her from a diagonal angle, coming into her line of sight not too soon but not too late. Even with his slow, controlled prowl, he ultimately became mesmerized by the tone of her body beneath the fitting white suit. Within seconds, they were face to face. The gambit had been set.

"Hello my dear," the words slipped out of his mouth like clear liquid. He knew not where this sudden rush of confidence came from, but it was too late now to suppress it. He curled his hand downward and raised it up, putting it outward like a lion's paw. The corners of his lips broke into an affable smile, and though he meant no ill or further intent, his eyes expressed a certain fixation on her. It was no intention. She was ravishing. But past all of that, his mind cleared briefly and fully, and once again he found power within him to make the ultimate request.

"May I have this dance?"
