Someone to talk to
Being shy is probably the worst thing that I am Kitty thought as she was walking aimlessly through the west tower. She hadn't really hung around here very much considering that the Ravenclaw's dormitory was there. Darn this shy business, I wish I had the nerves to make friends. It almost seems everyone has friends except me. She comforted herself and looked at the windows hidden by beautiful blue curtains. Suddenly there was a rustle coming from the door to her right. Opening the door cautiously, a couple of feathers drifted down and settled in her hair and on her clothes. Owls, I found the Owlery. She climbed the winding staircase and was surrounded by owls of all sorts. She leaned over and carefully held her hand in front of a barn owl perched near her. Seeing that it didn't try to bite her, she stroked its soft feathers. 'Hello' She spoke softy, not wanting to disturb or frighten it, 'What's your name?', It started nibbling on her hand, from what she read about owls, it meant it was smelling her (or something like that). 'My name is Kitty', she continued to stroke its feathers. 'Do you have any friends?', it gave almost like a little purr, 'Me neither, would you like to be my friend? I'll visit as often as possible.' She noticed it was getting awfully chilly because of the absence of windows, Better scoot before I get sick. What am I saying? I'm sounding like a grown up.

Someone to talk to
Margaret stepped around the corner and saw the girl who was talking to an owl. Curiouser and curiouser. She thought, jokingly. She said nothing to her but only snickered a bit, not in a judgemental way, but she thought it was pretty cute.
She looked at the many owls, trying to once again figure out which were school owls and which were owls of students or teachers. This had been something she struggled with for months but she finally just tied a scroll around the leg of a simple barn owl. She whispered her address to it and then pushed it off into flight. She wasn't much of a talker either, she was shy as well, Margaret always felt like she was being judged but for the most part she held it together and acted as if it was all just fine. She never really talked to people, or be around them to long, she always felt awkward if she did, but then she'd overthink things and do that fast, awkward walk, the kind you do when you're quick to get out. She wasn't to shy though, not like scared of the outdoors shy, just anxious, nervous, and constantly felt judge, but mostly she didn't talk to people because it felt like a bother or because it took too much energy (most likely because she was an introvert) but this girl seemed she and quiet as well, she did ask a bird if he wanted to be her friend (which seemed like something Margaret would do) so she said "hi," and smiled. Simple and nice, that was all.

Someone to talk to
Kitty heard footsteps, looking up she saw another girl, seemingly to have been there already. Oh shoot, did she hear me talking to an owl? Kitty tried to keep it cool and not show that inwardly she was freaking out, and continued to stroke the owl. The girl paused, then walked to a barn owl, tied her message onto its leg, and sent the owl on its way. Kitty got up to leave. 'Hi', Kitty turned and saw the girl smile not unkindly. She doesn't seem to be judging me for talking to an owl, if she heard me. 'Umm, hi. umm, my name's Kitty.', Upon further inspection, this girl also had red hair, though her's curled really nicely. She also had blue eyes and cute freckles. She didn't seem like an extrovert, it looked like it took a little courage to talk to me. A tiny spark of hope suddenly bloomed on Kitty's heart. Could this possibly be my first friend here at Hogwards? Maybe she isn't the judging type. I hope we could be good friends, that is if she is ok with my crazy personality. I wonder if she likes to read. Kitty! your ahead of yourself, try not to scare away your chance for making friends.

"I'm Margaret, is Kitty you're real name or a nickname?" she asked, a bit quietly but not mumbled. She slightly hoped it might be a nickname for no other reason than it would be nice to have a friend who loved cats just as much as she did. Margaret loved their calm nature and how their energy always seemed to match your own.
After the girl replied she went on to ask another question "what house are you in?" She asked, (not that a house will always tell you everything about a person, she knew many very kind Slytherins and hated some of the stereotyping that came with every house) then asked what year Kitty was in. Margaret always waited until the girl had finished her answer before she asked another question.
Even though they hadn't said hardly anything to each other yet, Margaret already felt a connection to her, it didn't seem awkward or forced but rather nice. She felt a sense of comfort being around Kitty. Margaret could almost always tell if she would make a connection with someone within the first 10 minutes of meeting them, if there was no feeling of connection or any sort of awkwardness now there would most certainly never would be in the future.

Margeret, my mother's name. How convenient, I hope that it helps make Hogwarts more of a home. I miss home so much, I hope this helps.'Is Kitty you're real name or your nickname?', 'It's my nickname, My real name is Catherine.', I hope she doesn't mind my nickname, Kitty blushed and hoped the girl wouldn't see. 'What house are you in and what year?', Margaret asked. This girl has a way of asking questions in such a nice way. 'I am a first-year Gryffindor.' Kitty desperately hoped her friend wasn't a Slytherin, She had heard that that house didn't get along too well with Gryffindors. 'What about you?', Kitty held her breath, hoping that she was in Ravenclaw, or at least Hufflepuff. She couldn't be Gryffindor, I haven't seen her in the common room. I wonder if she has a nickname I could use., Even though they had just met, Kitty felt at ease with Margeret. I really hope we can be good friends. Kitty's heart fluttered when Margeret gave her answer. Now I know we can be good friends, Ravenclaws are known to be smart, I hope she likes to read books as much as I do!

Margaret was glad to finally meet someone she could get along with that was in Gryffindor, almost all of her friends were Raven claws or Slytherins (not that she had many friends, which was just fine with her). She was glad to hear that Kitty was a nickname, it could have just been a shortening of her name but it made her glad to know Kitty didn't have a problem with cats (or she would most likely wouldn't have carried the nickname with her and would have taken up a different nickname).
Margaret smiled "it's nice to meet you," she said, reaching an uncontrollably shaking hand out to shake the girl's hand, and although this might sound like a formal gesture to an outside ear it was very informal and done in a calm, kind tone.
It was pretty nippy and while most of her face was numb her nose seemed to always find a way to feel like it was on ice. A breeze blew path that froze Margaret, like getting out of cold water into cold weather. "Do you ever r-read" Margaret asked, with the thought that it might be nice to have books that they had both read and could talk over.

Someone to talk to
It was getting rather cold now that the sun is reaching the horizon, Kitty shivered. 'It's nice to meet you', Margeret said, extending her arm to shake hands. Kitty took it and noticed her friend was shivering too, 'Nice to meet you too!', kitty tried to keep her teeth from chattering. 'Do you ever r-read?', Margeret asked, barely able to keep from shivering. Is she kidding? Reading is my life! I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't have a book. 'I love reading!' Kitty knew they had better get out of the cold. 'Would you like to talk somewhere warmer?', Kitty knew before her friend could answer that Margeret would agree unless she had other things to do. I wonder if she likes books as much as I do, it would be nice to read and discuss books with a friend. Wow, it wasn't so bad making a new friend, although I should probably thank the owl for that. Strange how animals can do things like that. 'Speaking of books, would you like to meet in the library? It's ok if you have other things to do, I understand.' Kitty secretly hoped that her friend would say yes, but tried not to get her hopes too high up in case disappointment would bring it to the ground.

Margaret laughed a little knowing it was probably a dumb question "do you like books"
Margaret was shivering and was glad when Kitty asked if she'd like to go somewhere warmer. For a second she thought about cracking a joke and saying "no, it's not that cold" but decided to just say "yes". Margaret rubbed her hands together and warmed them with her breath. Her fingertips were so cold and frozen that they hurt and it almost felt like they would just break off like that one guy's toe in Pirates of the Caribbean. "Do you want to go to the small hall?" Margaret asked. Whether she'd say yes or prefer to go somewhere else she decided they mine as well start to head inside.
As they walked down the staircase of the owlery Kitty asked if Margaret liked books. "Yes, of course!" Margaret said. "What kind of books do you usually read?" Margaret asked. "I mostly like Historical and science fiction books but sometimes I find a book I like from the Romance or fiction section. Margaret replied after Kitty's reply, and after she asked what sort of books Margaret asked, which she most likely would, just out of social obligation, at the very least or perhaps out of curiosity.
