To Fly And Whack Things
♤♧ Say not that we age, but that our beauty develops with time ♧♤@Anastasia BeckettHow could this day have turned out any better? From the abysmal way it had started, he certainly wouldn't have assumed that it could have been pulled from the depths of largely figurative despair. But he seemed to have made a new friend - and an absurdly stunning one, at that. In addition, said stunning friend had informed him that he could turn his dreams of zooming through the skies like a veritable superhero into reality much sooner than anticipated.
Thinking back on this brief interaction, he couldn't think of any way it might have turned out better. No, no; that wasn't true. Anastasia had never given him that coveted kiss. But as his father would say, 'Maybe next time, you won't fail quite so badly!'
Whether his plainly overabundant supply of charm eventually swept the girl off her feet or not - though he would undoubtedly continue the effort - she didn't seem terribly disturbed by his presence, at the very least. And he certainly enjoyed her quick wit and sense of dry sarcasm. In other words, he had a feeling that they could become good friends; and a new friend, romantic or not, was always something to celebrate.
To add a new friend to your arsenal was to have another person to spend time with. Someone to learn about, and someone to share things with; memories, old and new. Someone to grow close to, someone who would have your back in times of need, and in turn, someone that you could look after. To gain a new friend was to add another person to the list of reasons why humanity was worth something, and to remind yourself that everyone plays a part in something important, whether it be large or small. It was to tell you, without a doubt, that everyone has an individual worth that nothing, and no one, can ever take away.
And so Marshal would never wish to trade this day away, even if he inevitably crashed a school broom and got banned from using another one ever again - though he shuddered at the thought.
Maybe he and Ana would develop a wonderful friendship, or maybe she would pretend to have never met him the next time she laid eyes on his exuberant face. But then, life was full of possibilities, improbabilities, disappointments, and small miracles. And never could any of the good things happen without a chance, however small.
This, Marshal figured, was a chance.
Speaking of chances, there were apparently none when it came to him taking Ana's broom for a spin, as voiced by its protective master.
"That's okay!" he replied as she mounted the broom. "Once you see how I handle one of those school brooms, you'll be dying to see what I can do on that one. I'll ask you again later!"
Watching as she floated away, defying all logical laws of physics, she did something spectacular. She blew him a kiss. In the future, she was very likely to regret that small act.
Reaching a hand out, Marshal snatched at thin air, as though catching the kiss, before abruptly smacking the hand to his cheek with a grin that threatened to stretch straight off his face.
In reality, he knew that the gesture hadn't meant anything like he wanted it to; in fact, it was quite possibly patronizing in a way. But he certainly wasn't going to tell that to his beating heart. As far as it was concerned, Anastasia was madly in love with him.
"She called me adorable," he muttered proudly under his breath as he turned to make the trek back to the castle.
Yes. It had turned out to be a very good day.Exit Stage Left, Marshal Aldous Mozor
