(Serena Towers & Mae Winters)
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon in April. The sun was finally starting to come out, the snow was melting away. Hopefully it would actually become Spring soon. However, this was Scotland and it was not unusual for the snow to continue falling in April. Heck, she was pretty sure it once fell in May - which was very bizarre, even for this country and it's unusual weather.
Serena stared down at the pieces of paper fluttered across the table. For a change of scenery, she decided to come downstairs to the Small Hall and use one of the tables here. The portraits around the room were always pretty to look at. The frames were so beautiful and she enjoyed seeing them walk around. It was kind of amusing how they disappeared out of the portrait sometimes or made comments on things.
Besides, the small hall was was far better than going to the library, which was way too far for her. It was on the fourth floor, after all! This was a lot closer to her common room, which is where she had been attempting to write earlier. The Hufflepuff never thought of herself as a writer. Yet somehow, she ended up being one of the writers for her house newspaper. She was not sure how she got into it... It sort of just happened, really. Part of her Prefect duties was to help her house out so this seemed like a good way to do it.
Unfortunately, it now meant a lot of struggling as she hated her writing. Serena sighed as she looked at the paper in front of her. There were so many scribbles and notes on it. She was definitely not cut out for this writing malarkey but she tried her best and at the end of the day being a Hufflepuff was all about trying. Picking up her quill, Serena pressed the end of the feather against her face as she stared up at the wall in front of her in thought. "I need something to inspire me..." She mumbled to herself, wondering what she could do to help her writing muse. Perhaps going for a walk or talking to someone would help, "What to do...?".

I'm Not A Writer
It was finally April, to which Mae was excited for, she was ready for Summer and the sunshine that came with it. She had currently been outside reading a book on Potions, one of her favorite subjects. She knew she needed to go up to the library to get books, she had a Transfiguration Paper due and was in no mood to do so. Mae closed her Potions book and made her way through the doors inside. Mae walked her way up the stairs, she was definitely in no rush to find the books, seeing as she didn't want to do this paper anyways. She entered the Library and browsed the shelves for a good 20 minutes to find the books she needed. Once she was done, she made her way down the stairs, Mae found herself on the second floor.
"You know what I don't really need to study in my dorm, you know what I think's it time for a change," Mae said to herself as she continued down the stairs. She found herself going down the corridor to the small hall. Mae enjoyed that Hall, the pictures on the walls talked and everything was beautifully decorated it was absolutely an upgrade from Mae's slightly bland Dorm. Mae found a seat next to the wall to sit at, as she overheard a girl talking to herself
"I need something to inspire me,"
The girl said to herself, Mae could see that she had a lot of papers around her.
"What to do,"
She then said to herself. Mae noticed that she had Hufflepuff robes and a Prefect Badge. Of all the people Mae had met, she had never met a Prefect before.
"Um 'scuse me,"
Mae said with a bit of a nervous whisper, she couldn't help but to do so. Everything she had heard of the prefects was that they didn't mess around.
"I couldn't help but overhear your conversation, mainly cause there aren't many people here, but would you like to talk to me,"
Mae said with a faint whisper, true no one was there but that didn't stop Mae from being scared, like she always is.

The Hufflepuff had been talking out aloud but she hadn't realised that people were around to listen to her. She probably looked like she was going crazy, in fact. But it was okay, there were plenty of portraits here too - perhaps it would look like she was talking to one of them randomly. Hearing a whisper near her, Serena looked up to see a girl that looked a bit scared standing near her, "Hm?" She looked at her curiously, wondering why the girl had called out to her. The fellow student looked like a Ravenclaw, judging from the blue stripes over her tie and in her robes. Perhaps she wanted to borrow some ink or required something.
As she heard the girl continue to talk, it dawned on her that she had been overheard, "Ah!" Serena grinned at the nervous girl, "Of course! That would be great!" She replied with a nod. Serena was usually nervous around people she did not know but there was something quite comforting about the other girl being shy too. It made her feel more at ease. Being a Prefect also helped reduce the shyness as she was often forced to talk to random people, "Oh sorry, let me just-" Serena started as she quickly pulled the pieces of parchment that were lying around the desk towards her to make some room for the Ravenclaw to join her.
Once she had cleared up the table a bit, Serena tapped it to indicate that the girl could sit down if she wanted to join her. It was her invitation to sit down, rather. "Please do join me," Serena replied looking around the room. The girl was right, there weren't many people around. Smiling at the Ravenclaw, she tried to make her feel comfortable. There was no need to be scared of her! Or at least, Serena hoped there was no reason to be scared of her, she would hate that, "Hi, I'm Serena," She introduced herself, holding out her hand to shake the Ravenclaw's.

Mae was sitting their nervously when the girl looked up.
"Hm?"
She responded to Mae, with a bit of a look, like she hadn't seen Mae. As Mae responded the girl said this to her,
"Ah! Of Course! That would be great,"
Mae felt a bit better and a little less nervous about meeting this girl. Prefects weren't in her game yet and she had no clue how to even talk to one. Mae looked up at the girl and smiled, then realizing she hadn't cleaned the area for Mae to sit she said this
"Oh sorry, let me just-"
As she started to clean the table Mae packed up the many books she had checked out on Transfiguration at the library, she knew she had the paper due but it would get done and she thought that maybe this girl might be able to help her, she did, by the copious amounts of paper on the table, look smart enough. Once she had cleared the table she tapped it and said
"Please do join me,"
Mae saw that the girl seemed to feel less nervous around Mae, and that made Mae a little bit more comfortable too, she thought that she may make another friend too in the process. Mae collected her things and moved over to the table the girl was sitting at. After Mae sat down the girl introduced herself
"Hi, I'm Serena,"
She then held out her hand to shake Mae's. Mae grabbed her hand and shook it and said,
"Hi, I'm Mae,".
She was definitely feeling better about meeting Serena.

Serena smiled at the Ravenclaw. The poor girl looked so nervous around her! She wasn't sure if it was just the girl's personality or if she looked scary and intimidating. Of course, Serena hoped that it was not the latter. She would have hated to look intimidating to anyone. Her entire role as Prefect required her to be approachable - and it fitted well with her personality too. Whilst you do get Prefects who projected an air of strictness, she was sadly not one of those. It would probably be a good idea, to ensure people listened to her. However, she just could not bring herself to be strict - unless someone did something that completely broke against the rules. Most times, Serena just had a smile on her face and never took things too seriously.
"Nice to meet you, Mae," Serena replied, shaking the girl's hand before letting it go. She waited for the girl to sit before looking over to the pile of things she brought over, "Working on anything interesting?" She asked her, simply out of curiosity and also to make some conversation with her. Mae appeared to have a number of books on her so it looked like she was studying. As a Ravenclaw, Serena figured that was not very uncommon. It was a stereotype but it was most likely a true one, given their intelligence.
Suddenly realising that the girl had come over to her, after she was caught mumbling to herself, Serena gasped a little, "Ah! I hope I didn't disturb you or anything!" She said quickly, with an apologetic expression on her face just in case she had. Perhaps she was talking a little louder than she had expected. She hoped not. Mae seemed nice. Serena gathered her pages and hit them against the table to line them up a bit. In all honesty, the article was sort of put on hold for the moment. She was curious as to who this girl was now and wanted to talk to her a little more before she worked on her article again.

Mae watched Serena clean up the table, as she sat down Mae was feeling a bit nervous as she had never casually talked to a Prefect before, but Serena seemed like one of the non strict Prefects. Serena looked up at Mae and said "Nice to meet you, Mae,". To Mae she started to seem very nice, and Mae felt a little less stressed about talking to Serena. "Nice to meet you too, you know I've never talked to a prefect before and you seem pretty nice," she said with a bit of a nervous tone. "Working on anything interesting?" Sabrina asked. "Well I mean Transfiguration but I don't really like that class, I mean like I don't super not like it, it's just a bit hard you know translating one alphabet to another, and the teacher is very very straight forward when it comes to his lessons and he seems super strict," Mae said rambling she didn't want to sound super rude about the class because she just wasn't like that, but to Mae, Transfiguration was one of the more hard classes to get. "Ah I hope I didn't disturb you or anything," Serena said. "Oh no you didn't bug me, I'm okay, but them I'm not to sure about," Mae said with an awkward smile as she pointed to a group of students, a few Slytherin, three or four Gryffindors, and maybe one or two Ravenclaws.

Serena blinked at her a little before laughing softly. Apparently she was the first Prefect that Mae had spoken to, which may have been the reason for her nervousness, "Ahh, please don't let that put you off! We're all very nice!" She replied with a nod. All of the fellow Prefects that she had worked with were great. In fact, a number of them were people she would class as friends. They were great. Absolutely no one to be afraid of. Perhaps some of them seemed a bit stricter than the others. Who knows.
She nodded as the Ravenclaw spoke about Transfiguration. Professor Sergei took that class, did he not? She never knew how to pronounce his surname properly, so just did not try it. He seemed like a nice teacher but certainly strict. Her first impression of him was that he was strict and scary too. But after a few classes, he started to seem quite... nice, actually. Perhaps he was not as bad as he acted! "Ah Transfiguration... It's an interesting subject, that's for sure. But I don't think I'm very good at it..." Serena replied with a frown on her face, "Professor Sergei seems quite nice, once you get to know him... I wouldn't want to cross him though, he certainly looks like he'd get mad and bite your head off," She joked. Well, she half-joked. Perhaps he would bite your head off, who knows with him. If any teacher would do it, it would probably be him. He seemed amongst the stricter ones.
Following Mae's finger, she looked over to the groups of students around the room. There were a few scattered around. Pulling a face, she cringed a little, "Whoops! Let's hope not!" She replied, laughing softly. She did not mean to do it but she had gotten so engrossed in her own work that she could not think about other things, "I'm attempting to write something for our house newspaper, the Hufflepost. It's been a bit... frustrating. I think I've just lost the muse to write anything creative right now..." She explained to Mae with a frown on her face. It was annoying not being able to write when you had a deadline due.
However, when the muse vanishes, it goes. Serena was attempting to revive it or at least, force herself to write something half decent but it seemed to be a struggle right now. Hopefully the paper would not be a total flop. The team was working so hard to put it together, she would hate to see it was not popular. However, she had faith in the rest of the team, even if she did not have faith in her own abilities.

Mae couldn't help herself from Rambling on but she did. "Ahh, please don't let that put you off! We're all very nice!" Serena said with a nod. She seemed very sweet to Mae, and she was starting to turn around her view on them. Mae thought of them as the police of the wizarding world they just wanted to keep people in check. "Ah Transfiguration... It's an interesting subject, that's for sure. But I don't think I'm very good at it..." Serena said, and personally Mae could definitely agree with her in her eyes she thought that Professor Sergei only would accept select few as good enough for the class. "Professor Sergei seems quite nice, once you get to know him... I wouldn't want to cross him though, he certainly looks like he'd get mad and bite your head off," she said, and Mae agreed when she got back her homework from Transfiguration the professor went nuts on how much she didn't do well. Mae pointed to the group of kids who looked a bit annoyed, "Whoops! Let's hope not!" she said giving a bit of a laugh. Mae had no clue how incredibly sweet Prefects were and she personally enjoyed spending time around this one. "I'm attempting to write something for our house newspaper, the Hufflepost. It's been a bit... frustrating. I think I've just lost the muse to write anything creative right now..." she then said, which Mae could definitely help with. "Yeah I agree with you the first grade I got for Transfiguration was a D, personally I think that he will say that select few are good enough for that class," Mae said with a frown, "If your trying to write something for the Hufflepuff newspaper I would love to help, I asked my head of house if I could be in the newspaper and that was when it was Mrs. Blevins, now I don't think I will be asking because I am not too sure of their process here but guess who just got made into the new head of Ravenclaw, you guessed it Professor Sergei, so I shouldn't really talk super bad about him," Mae said super upset.

Serena pulled a face as she listened to Mae. It seemed the girl had just gotten assigned the professor she did not get along with best as her head of house. It was a shame since Serena knew that the Heads of House were a very important part of the school. Without hers, she would be lost. There were plenty of times that she had approached her head of house for help and assistance as Prefect. "Ah, I'm sorry. Hopefully you'll get along better with him now, though?" She asked Mae. Perhaps if they were talking to each other more and she could see what he does as the head of Ravenclaw, she would be less scared of him. "He certainly seems like a good guy once you get to know him a bit," Serena continued with a nod. She had not had the chance to meet him much before but from her brief knowledge of him, he seemed quite nice behind the strictness.
"Transfiguration is perhaps one of the harder subjects though. I imagine it would be, you're essentially changing the entire nature of an object." Serena continued. She had not actually paid much attention in class so struggled to grasp an understanding for it herself. However, through her basic knowledge of it, the whole concept was one that was quite difficult to grasp. She enjoyed things with a more basic level, simply because she was not very bright. However, there were certain things that only transfiguration could do. The idea of becoming an animagus, for example, was quite appealing. It did, however, require you to be extremely skilled in transfiguration.
Deciding to ask Mae more about herself, she continued to talk, "Are there any other subjects you do enjoy?" She asked the girl, wondering what sort of things she was particularly skilled at or enjoyed doing, "Or perhaps any other hobbies you're doing?" She asked her, knowing that the girl already wanted to join her house newspaper and was awaiting to hear back from that.

Mae felt as if she were talking on and on until Serena told her "Ah, I'm sorry. Hopefully you'll get along better with him now, though?". Personally to Mae she knew that the heads of house were important people in the castle, well more or less incredibly important. But she always had wondered, Why him? She did however think he may have been a more relaxed man outside of class. "He certainly seems like a good guy once you get to know him a bit," Serena said to Mae. "Transfiguration is perhaps one of the harder subjects though. I imagine it would be, you're essentially changing the entire nature of an object." she added. Mae could agree the first time she ever when she left her homework she had gotten a D for it. She did figure that it was better than a T but she learned the hard way he was one of the more harder teachers. "Are there any other subjects you do enjoy?" Serena said "Or perhaps any other hobbies you're doing?" she added. "Yeah, the Transfiguration teacher is probably tough at teaching but relax outside of it, I should give him a bit of a chance, and yes I do have a favorite class," Mae said "It's Astronomy, I don't know whats so alluring about it and I don't think I ever will, but I find it a fun class," she added. "Although, there is one class that I am a bit more excited for," she drew one "It's Divination but I heard that we can't take it until we are in 3rd year, I heard it from one of the other students and I was always curious," Mae finished with a bit of a frown. She desperately wanted to learn about Divination, but if they were only allowed during 3rd year she always wondered how she would wait, or if she would even care for it by then.
