𝓐madea watched in horror the events that were unfolding around her. Had she known that her actions would have caused this...no, she definitely still would have jinxed the girl, whose name she finally now knew as Ruby. Grudges weren't something Amadea liked to hold as she knew that it really only hurt yourself rather than the other person, but this was a grudge she didn't mind holding. Her mind flashed back again to that fateful day in the corridors, the searing pain that had pierced her flesh. Despite the chaos that now reigned, Amadea didn't regret her spell.

"Ami there's no need to threaten her," Amadea said to her friend, though she hoped Ami understood how much she appreciated her friend's support. Even though Ruby had hurt her, Amadea wanted to try to be the better person from this point on. She had gotten her spell to hit and that was all she needed now. If she never saw this girl again, Amadea would be happy. Unfortunately, it did not seem like the end was near. A new prefect had emerged from the shadows followed closely by a spell that looked like it was aiming towards Ami. Amadea's blood boiled a little more now; how dare someone come out of the shadows without warning and try to attack her best friend?

Her anger reached a maximum as Ruby began spewing nonsense about their encounter in the hallway, trying to make it seem like Amadea was the bad guy. "That is not true at all!" Amadea cried, not caring that she was screaming. "I was running late to class and I accidentally bumped into Ruby. I apologized to her and picked up her books but then she hexed me! I was just acting in self-defense. Things kind of got out of hand, but I went to leave and then she hexed me again as I was walking away." Amadea stopped and took a deep breath. How the hell had she gotten herself in this situation? She turned to Ruby. "Stop trying to make yourself the victim in this situation and own up to your actions." Before she could say anything else, though, the girl had sent another hex flying her way.

If this was going to turn into a round two of their corridor encounter, Amadea wasn't about to let the girl get away with anything. Amadea glanced over at Ami, hoping that her friend wouldn't hate her for getting them into more trouble. But the prefects couldn't just flaunt their power by casting spells toward the Hufflepuffs without expecting the two girls to retaliate at least a little. "Rictusempra!" Amadea exclaimed, pointing her wand back at Ruby.

There was a flash of green light and another voice, and Ami's attention was torn away from Ruby towards... Pericles? .... oh crap. Realizing that the two Hufflepuffs were not only facing off against two Headliner members, but also two prefects, and two of the brightest students of their respective years, Ami cast a worried glance back towards Amadea. Sure, the two had seniority and age over them, but authority...? It had been a long, long time since Dea had been a prefect, and no one in their right mind would ever give Ami a single drop of authority. Maybe... maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all, getting into a fistfight with two extremely capable duelists.

Her conviction continued to slip as Ruby played up her victim act, glancing back towards Dea again. "Fire?" she echoed in disbelief as Ruby scrambled to her feet, not even paying the slightest bit of attention as Ruby fled to Dralt's side. "Dea, do you know how stereotypical that is, we can't be enforcing this type of- oh!"

Oh, the pitfalls of not paying attention. Staring at Ruby in horror as she heard the jinx's incantation fall from her lips, Ami winced as she realized it was headed directly for Amadea. She had half a mind to throw herself in front of the spell, but no... Dea could handle it. Frankly, her doppelganger was the best duelist she knew- she'd be able to handle it. Instead, turning her gaze towards her fellow Headliner writer, she offered him a grimace and an apologetic smile. "Sorry, man," she grunted, taking a running start before tackling the Ravenclaw prefect, attempting to pin him to the ground. She hadn't quite thought through just what she was going to do once she had him pinned, but she'd cross that bridge when she got to it.

It had been so long since Ami had gotten into an actual fight, that she kind of missed it. And not like a, two-Gryffindors-set-her-on-fire-and-kicked-her-while-she-was-down type fight, that didn't count. And certainly none of the few duels she'd participated in counted, for no hands were thrown. After she'd gotten her Hogwarts letter, Ami simply had no time to visit the dojos in London where she had continued with her martial arts training after leaving the States. She missed it, she really did, so even if she was at a severe disadvantage in this fight, she would be sticking to her fists.

... that, and her magic had a bad habit of simply not working.

MODERATION POST
A duel had broken out on the grounds at Hogwarts. Despite the dim light, the participants furiously cast their spells at each other in an attempt to apprehend each other. What exactly these two teams were trying to accomplish was a mystery, but the four students attacked each other with fervor.

First to cast his spell was @Pericles Dralt. Seeing his fellow Prefect being towered over by none other than Hufflepuff @Ami Procoppio, he had to take action, casting the Green Sparks Charm toward the badger. She was quick, though, easily evading the green sparks that were flying toward her and tumbling out of the way gracefully. She was safe...for now.

Next to cast was @Ruby Cazares. The girl seemed to be quite angry, wanting to retaliate from the previous Knockback Jinx that had just been cast at her. In her haze of anger, she yelled out trying to cast Tarantallegra toward the other Hufflepuff @Amadea Campbell. Unfortunately, it seemed as though her anger had cost her; the accuracy of her spell was way off. The spell zoomed off toward her fellow Prefect, @Pericles Dralt, but the Ravenclaw was aware enough to see the spell coming and eptly avoid the jinx.

@Amadea Campbell, seemingly quite angry as well, cast her spell toward @Ruby Cazares. Unfortunately, anger seemed to be playing toward peoples' disadvantage tonight. For whatever reason, her spell backfired and hit herself instead. The poor Hufflepuff would have to suffer the consequences from the Tickling Charm she had meant to hit the Slytherin with. Perhaps this would teach her to cast with less anger next time.

It was @Ami Procoppio's turn to join in the fight. Because this was not an official Hogwarts duel, she opted to go for the physical attack, running toward poor @Pericles Dralt and grappling him. While this method was certainly effective in apprehending him so her teammate could focus on duelling with the other opponent, this left both her and Pericles now in vulnerable position to be hit by spells.

Loyalty was both a virtue and, at times, a flaw. Although Pericles did not necessarily give his blindly, it spurred him to side with Ruby right from the start. That wasn't to say he would outright ignore the other side. A duelist's stance remained: wand fixed on the target he had just missed, boots planted just over shoulder-width apart, typically gentle mouth wrought into a firm frown. His friend and fellow prefect claimed she was attacked after threatening detention, and Peri welcomed her to his side with a muttered "I'm sorry. I shouldn'tve insisted I would catch up." His certainty seemed to waver however, focus flitting for Amadea as she rebuked Ruby. The Ravenclaw wasn't quick to believe or disbelieve. As much as he strained to accept any sleight against his favorite Slytherin, the Hufflepuff sounded desperate, voice strained with earnest aggravation. There was little time to deliberate, however. Her fury was punctuated with a spell, which abruptly backfired, and Ruby was soon hurling another spell the poor girl's way. Or, so she intended. It hurtled towards him instead.

Pericles wrenched himself out of the Tarantallegra's trajectory just in time. A furrowed forehead and wide eyes moved between them both while he scrambled to regain his footing, and for a moment, it seemed as though the prefect was about to bark at one of (or both) girls. He had heard Ami's apology and answered it only with a nod. Its intent was entirely misunderstood: his father always said that an apology meant one would try not to repeat their affront. Instead, hers preceded one. The boy looked like he was back to the brink of saying something towards Ruby when the wildcard bowled into him. Ami was older, taller, and heavier than Pericles. He would tumble over with a wild wave of the arms and a grunt of shock. What followed wasn't wit, or fright, or a contest of strength. It was hard-wired in the young heir's mind that he oughtn't be quick to throw physical attacks. Magic, though... magic was a reflex. She was trying to pin him, and a sensation of uncharacteristic outrage boiled up from some untapped place in his gut. A hiss seemed to escape Pericles as if uttered by another, the seething tone cutting clear through the struggle: "Don't touch me. Wingardium Leviosa!"

Amadea was telling Ami that she didn't need to threaten Ruby, but it was too late, far too late. “You attacked a prefect,” she pointed out blankly. “I wasn't even trying to hurt you, I was just going to give detention and go to bed. I was trying to do my job, and you're obstructing the work of staff members.” She didn't even need to lie—Amadea was in the wrong this time. Sure, she was getting revenge, but did that make it right? Ruby was pretty sure that wasn't how it worked. However, she had no problem with crossing ethical or moral lines herself to get what she wanted.

Then Amadea started screaming. Part of her wanted to just taunt the girl, but Pericles was here and she couldn't ignore that fact. She paused for a moment to think, trying to find a solution that wouldn't completely destroy any good opinion that the Ravenclaw had of her. “Fine, yes, I started it. I was being irrational. I'm sorry, okay?” Yes, there was a rare apology. Her tone of voice and body language would imply that it was genuine, that she actually meant it and was emotional about it. But for all her analysing and watching how people behaved, she couldn't change the look in her eyes that betrayed her if anyone was paying close attention. They were near emotionless, staring coldly at Amadea, forming an unsettling contrast with her words.

And then the Hufflepuff claimed self-defense and Ruby felt the familiar wave of anger crash down. “Self-defense? Self-defense? Since when is setting a second year on fire valid self-defense? I provoked you, but fire? You felt so threatened by a 12 year old that you thought I should burn for it?” Lips were twisted in a disgusted scowl as she eyed the girl bitterly. “Stop telling me to own up to my actions if you can't even do the same. You would've felt sick for a short while if you didn't get the effects of my spell removed. How is that equal to setting me on fire?” The words flowed smoothly, tumbling out of her mouth in a constant stream.

In the end, perhaps it was a moot point. Maybe everyone here had already made up their mind about the situation. Ruby certainly had—she didn't care whether she was in the right or wrong, she just acted according to the fleeting impulses and emotion because that was what she knew. She wanted to provoke the other students, wanted to get a reaction to prove to herself that she had influence, that she could get under people's skin. She wanted attention because she lacked it at home, but she wouldn't recognise that as part of the cause of her actions. She was not that self-aware. But the reasons for her words? She was attempting to get Ami and Pericles on her side, or at least ensure that the Ravenclaw would stay in favour of her. If it all fell through, she was still hoping to sow the seeds of doubt in the mind of Amadea and possibly Ami's as well.

Yes, maybe it was sick, but she wanted to watch them tear themselves apart and struggle. Not because she hated them that badly, but because she enjoyed the chaos and because she wanted to make them feel what she did—the anger, the confusion, the doubt or the lack of firm direction. Her spell may have failed, almost hitting Pericles instead, but maybe her words would be more successful. Amadea's spell's failure was more drastic, backfiring on her. Ruby drew closer, a wary few steps placing her in a position where only Amadea was likely to hear her words. “Seems it will be a repeat of last time, hm? So far, your spells are failing just like they did before. The third year isn't so talented after all,” she taunted, the malicious gleam in her eyes mirroring that which they had possessed in the girls' previous duel.

She was about to cast something at Amadea, raising her wand threateningly, when her attention was pulled away. Ami had decided to tackle Pericles, who responded with a rage the likes of which the Slytherin had never seen from the boy. Light eyes wide with shock, the Slytherin watched the ordeal and then sprang into action. She was vindictive and wanted to focus on Amadea, sure, but she had dragged Pericles into this mess with her and now he was in a bad position. Bristling with hostility, Ruby focused on Ami. “You heard what he said, get off of him,” she snarled. “Flipendo!” Until this point, her actions had been defined by a marked selfishness, but her priority had immediately shifted to defending her friend, regardless of whether or not he actually needed the help. She would see to it that he was okay and that Ami would have to pay for her actions in one way or another.

𝓐madea's mind was reeling as the events unfolded in front of her. Things were happening so quickly that she wasn't sure she was fully registering exactly what was happening. She was not the type of person to instigate violence, nor was she the type of person to be sneaking around after curfew. Yet here she was, in the middle of a full on fight in the middle of the Hogwarts grounds. Well, the least she could do was make sure that they won.

As Amadea attempted to cast her spell toward the Slytherin girl that had wronged her, she felt a terrible gut-wrenching feeling as the spell shot out of the back end of her wand, rather than firing off toward the girl. A second later Amadea felt the brunt impact of the spell hit her as she stumbled backward from shock. Not long after, she felt her whole body start being tickled. This was a sensation Amadea had never felt before and was one she did not enjoy in the slightest. She shrieked as she attempted to push the feeling away. She hoped that the effects of the spell would end soon - it was going to be hard to win when she was overcome with the tickling sensation.

"Sure, I'll own up to my actions!" Amadea exclaimed as Ruby yelled at her. Was this what she wanted? "You're right, I'm out past curfew! I shouldn't be. But if we want to talk about owning up to our own actions, why don't you own up to yours?" She paused trying to control the tickling sensation. "You're a prefect, right? That means you should be setting a good example for the rest of the school. How is hexing someone when they did nothing wrong and then hexing them again when they are walking away from the situation setting a good example? Let me answer that question for you: it's not. You showed me no mercy that day; I was trying to help you pick up your books and apologize and you retaliate by hexing me multiple times. That is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a prefect who is supposed to represent the best of the best at school." Amadea shook her head.

She was starting to feel defeated at this point. Clearly arguing with this girl was absolutely no use. Whatever Amadea said was not going to change the fact that Ruby believed that she was in the right in this situation. And maybe she partially was. Should Amadea have set the girl on fire? Probably not. Looking back at it, Amadea realized there was probably a less harmful spell she could have cast that got her point across just as well. Still, Amadea was not the only one at fault in this situation and she was entirely convinced she was the one lesser at fault. She was about to open her mouth and tell Ami that they should just leave when Ruby taunted her again. The third year isn't so good after all, she teased. Oh, this girl was going to get it. "Maybe you should focus on trying to hit me rather than your teammates," Amadea yelled back.

Amadea flung her wand around, commanding "Flipendo!" Her spell wasn't going to fail this time. It couldn't. Amadea had to prove herself.

Ami had to admit, this was going a lot better than she had thought it would've gone.

An angry Pericles, however, frightened her to no end. She'd always seen the pale boy as a bit of a teacher's pet, whether it was intentional or not. He was just too responsible to be a proper little rascal, too calm and level-headed. But angry? That was a whole different beast she had yet to tackle- literally. Gritting her teeth and growling lightly at his yells, she tried to make sure that his wand arm was pinned. But in the mess of arms and legs, there was no way of knowing if he was actually completely restricted from casting the spell properly.

She could sort of hear Ruby taunting Amadea in the background, but she had other, more pressing issues on her mind. For instance, did she brush her teeth today? She distinctly remembered brushing them this morning, but she had had coffee at breakfast, lunch, and before dinner. Plus, she remembered eating a pickle on a dare during lunch... poor Pericles! Her breath probably smelled nast as hell, especially at such close range... maybe she should've stopped talking altogether, to save him from the nightmare of pickled-coffee breath.

Or maybe she should've actually been paying attention to what was happening around them. With a start, she realized that Ruby was attempting to aid Pericles in getting her off of the Ravenclaw prefect. Didn't she know that if Peri was successful, then she risked flipping her ally...? Whatever, that wasn't her problem. She could hear Amadea casting her Knockback Jinx as well, and mentally, she groaned. Where was the variety? The spice, the flavor? Honestly, what was the point in learning all of those spells if every Harry Potter-ed it and only used one spell over and over again?

Whatever. Not her problem- right now, she just didn't want to get catapulted into the air like cabbage. Did cabbage get catapulted? She felt like that was something that happened on TV, right? Grunting heavily, Ami pressed herself uncomfortably into Pericles and the ground, attempting to keep the Ravenclaw prefect out of the fight as long as possible. Honestly, it was almost like they were cuddling- maybe after this, she'd have to put up some flyers advertising how good Peri was at cuddling with people; maybe she'd put an ad in the Headliner...

No. Stay focused. Turning her head slightly towards Amadea, she yelled, "Dea, I've got Dralt- focus on the snake! Just get rid of Ruby!"

This fight was far from over. Threats and spells were being thrown all over the place and it seemed like the tensions weren't going to be lessening anytime soon. Despite being pinned down by the strong Hufflepuff, @Pericles Dralt still attempted to cast his spell at his attacker. Unfortunately, @Ami Procoppio was too quick for the Ravenclaw and she was able to maneuver her body out of the way while still pinning him to the ground. It was an impressive move.

@Ruby Cazares, despite her taunting toward @Amadea Campbell aimed her spell toward Ami; perhaps it was because her ally was under attack, but her Knockback Jinx sailed toward the grappler. Unfortunately, Ami was yet again swift enough to roll herself and Pericles away from the spell, avoiding the impact. That left Amadea open to cast her own Knockback Jinx toward Ruby. Maybe it was because the girl was busy trying to cast her own spell or maybe it was just the sheer determination of the Hufflepuff to finally succeed but her spell hurtled straight toward Ruby, hitting her squarely in the chest.

The shots had been fired, and the damage had been dealt. It was clear that this fight was far from over but one question lingered: What would happen next?

Mod note:
In case it was not very obvious, this is not a standard duel so some changes have been made at the discretion of all parties involved in said duel. When this moment was a memory, Peri would try to pick the positives from the encounter. This was an introductory lesson on the fact that few duels outside of Hogwarts would be "proper". Being grappled to the ground was evidently a new experience for him, as his intent was intense and focus went awry, eliciting absolute outrage. A proper duel he could confront with a straight face, but he didn't like this. Peri was not even a little bit keen on his first cuddling session with a girl. The budding wizard hadn't cast to harm, yet was vividly lapsing into a frenzy of frustration, that saintly patience of Peri's strained by a single act. Save for squirming and the sporadic jerk of a limb, he didn't try to bite or punch or headbutt his way out of things either. He had never fathomed physically fighting someone, and hands-on violence was extremely low on the list of conflict resolution, though they made it clear his options were running out. "Dea, I've got Dralt- focus on the snake! Just get rid of Ruby!"

What did she intend to do, hold him here until Ruby was unconscious? Then what...? He wasn't at all inclined to lay around, waiting to find out. Steleus? No- he could barely abide her pickled coffee breath, let alone running the risk of her sneezing in his face. Ruby and Amadea were arguing. What about? He couldn't focus. Everything was pickled coffee and burst personal-space bubbles. Did all girls smell weird up close? Pericles had many questions, not just about girls, but about the situation. Most of them were for Ami and Amadea, and while he was rolled about in the dirt, vaguely aware of an argument, some questions formed for Ruby too. He was accustomed to his peers treating prefects like buzzkills, white knights, and over-all obstacles, no matter how pure the prefect's intentions. This was different from the usual eye-rolls and cold shoulders they faced. Why had these two outright attacked her...?

He couldn't think clearly to draw a conclusion, not with this enormous girl going gorilla on him. Pericles bared his teeth. The struggling grew wilder while he tried to twist a trapped wrist, fighting to redirect his wand. His glare was stinging, gentle features harshened by an infuriated scowl, words lost to him beyond the snarling of a spell. "Rictusempra!"

Amadea answered Ruby's question of whether Curse of the Bogies deserved being set on fire by saying that she'd own up to her actions, but then she responded instead to being out after curfew and demanding that Ruby own up to her actions. The Hufflepuff listed reasons why she was being a horrible prefect and talked about how her lack of mercy was unacceptable for anyone. The Slytherin's eyes were wide and lit with a churning mess of emotion as she tried to process it and figure out what she could say in front of Pericles. A flash of regret shot through her. What the hell was she doing? Amadea was right, this was no way for a prefect to behave, and what if she was making students feel unsafe at the school? There was already an abundance of dangers at Hogwarts, did she have to add to this? She could be ruining Peri's opinion of her, for all she knew, and that could cost her a friendship that she cherished.

But the regret vanished as quickly as it came and her resolve hardened. “That's not the point,” she hissed. “I wasn't talking about you owning up to being out after curfew, I can see you standing here in the darkness and I know you're aware of that. I was talking about the fact that you set me on fire over something that made you a little sick but that you could have recovered from without too much pain. Excuse me if I retaliated because I was set on fire by another student. Hexing you "multiple times" was because of that. Older students and people who should know better shouldn't use fire as a retaliation.” Rage was present, but there was a touch of pain in her tone alongside disbelief. Despite all the fires set in this school, she had managed to dodge being directly affected by all of them, and the first time she was burned by fire in this school was when she crossed paths with a fourth year.

“Maybe you should focus on trying to hit me rather than your teammates.” Ruby scowled at the girl's comment and wanted to retort that she knew very well what Ruby's intentions had been, but she kept quiet for once, a sneer still twisting her lips. Before she had a chance to make another move, she was hit with another Knockback Jinx. Unprepared, she went flying and hit the ground with a dull thud. She gasped, struggling to get the air into her lungs, but the wind had been knocked out of her. She sat up slowly, trying to take deep breaths when she was able to again. “Obscuro,” she said quietly as soon as she could manage it, pointing her wand at Amadea this time. She was trying to buy herself more time to recover as well as potentially get the upper hand if the spell successfully blindfolded her opponent.

She continued taking deep breaths, scrambling to stand up again even though it made her head spin. Getting flung to the ground twice certainly didn't feel good and she was dimly aware of the aches that indicated that bruises would be developing later, but the anger motivated her and kept her going, even if it couldn't be sustained for that much longer. “What's your goal here?” she asked coldly, the sneer back in place. “Knock me out? What'll that accomplish? That doesn't mean I'll just drop it the next time we meet.” She might be going down, but she wouldn't give up the fight until someone was unconscious, regardless of the tiredness and aches. She was not weak or a coward, and she didn't know when to stop.
