A Hughtch Comeback
@Hugh LoweThe weather was sunny. Warmer than the usual temperatures for this time of the year. A cold breeze however reminded people that it sure wasn't summer anymore. In the center of the field, a redhead had been busy strapping on her combat boots. She usually preferred her mary janes but with ground this muddy, Nico didn't take any chances. Besides, these boots were rather comfortable and easy to move around with. Perfect for quidditch practice.
'Up!' After tying her hair up in a small ponytail with only a few strand of hairs resting against her face like thin red curtains, she gently grasped the wooden shaft of her Tinderblast. It needed a trim here and there. Now would be a good time to make sure it was safe for flight. Atleast he responded well to her commands still. 'Shouldn't be too much work...' She muttered before kneeling down on the grass. As she had done this for nearly three years now, attending to her broom came as natural. Precise yet swift the small scissors snipped away the excess twigs of the brush.
'Good as new...' The charms and all that jazz were still in top shape. Satisfied she got up and once more let her broom fly into the palm of her pale hand. 'Up!' As it landed against her porcelain skin she could tell that the trimming made quite a difference. Did her broom seem happier? More stable? Did it actually react abit faster than before? Maybe.
Slipping on her tough quaffle grabbing gloves and a part of her Quidditch attire, Nico flew up high. A metal like mechanism in the middle of the Pitch, ticking before launching the oh-so-desired ball into the air. 'Got it!' She yelped. Her hands shooting out to, only slightly clumsy, catch it. She did so with such power that her legs nearly slid off of her broom. With another more panicked yelp, she desperately pulled the broom back to her, before throwing the Quaffle into one of the rings. 'That was close...' She muttered again, pushing herself higher onto her Tinderblast as if checking if her legs were still okey. 'Too close...'

Heavy feet trampled the grass in the part-giant's path. His long curls blowing in the breeze as he climbed the stands of the pitch. Green eyes found a girl flying in the air. The bright red hair gave away just who was training for their next game. A furrowed brow on his face would tell he was wondering something. Not how long it had been. He knew exactly how long his trip had taken him away from this place. There was not much mystery surrounding it all. What he did wonder was her reaction when she saw him. Nico was someone he met when she was alone in the world. While by now she had made other friends, it likely would not have looked well on him to leave without explanation. Even if he had his reasons, it was certain to raise questions. On top of that, he had been back since the start of this school year and not bothered to find her again. Only recently he chose to step out into the light again. A tricky thing for a giant.
He tugged the gloves on his hands and rolled up the collar of his jumper. His figure was starting to look more bulky as he grew. Hair on his jaw as well as chest puffing out and on top of his head there was a wild mess of curls sprouting in all directions. His nose seemed to grow at the same rate as his legs sometimes, in both length and width. He hardly fit his broom any more. A thought that made him sad, considering his history with Quidditch. He never had been the best keeper in the team's history he bet. But there were moments of joy there. Not enough for him to care and bring it with him though.

The mechanism was out of Quaffles to throw... One would expect that in a magical world there would be a way to keep the machine going. Infinite Quaffles. The thought of it made it crystal clear to the redhead why that wouldn't be a good idea in the long run. A sea of Quaffles... It would be all over the magical newspapers with a picture of children trying to outrun and outfly the neverending stream of balls.
With a deep sigh, Nico flew down to carefully pick up the few Quaffles she had brought with her from the Lockerrooms. Maybe she shouldn't stick with practicing alone. She lost quite some time by having to walk over to collect them. But there was a certain stillness to being by yourself. Finally reaching the center as the mud sticking to the bottom of her boots dropped back to its source every so often, the dhampir plopped the Quaffles back into their sturdy briefcases. After snapping the locks in place, She stretched her arms up, her fingers intertwined until a small snap could be heard. Lovely. Her eyes had been closed this entire time but when she opened them... She noticed something strange.
There was someone else here. Not that that came as a surprise. Manye students just came to lurk about or to just get some fresh air. Maybe enjoy the view. But there was something... about this long figure. Being so far down, the people in the stands usually only looked like dots of colours with smaller dots that usually were their hands as they waved and cheered for their teams. Slowely dropping her arms to her side, she squinted her eyes, peering at the odd figure. Was it... Quinn? The size wasn't one of a regular student nor that of a Professor. It's was... big. Tall.
Huge.
Puzzled and confused; confuzzled. Glancing one last time at the stack of Quaffle cases, Nico climbed back onto her Tinderblast before cautiously flying up to the stands. Getting closer to the figure, the dhampir had a hunch. In the few years she had stayed at this school, she had only known two people who were extraordinairy tall. And that was Hugh and Quinn. But... Hugh left the school a year ago. Out of nowhere. Why would he come back if he did? A sense of sadness overcame her until she finally arrived infront of the Gryffindor Scot who had been kind to her from day one. Hugh Lowe.
The messy hair, the form of his posture, the bristly eyebrows... It really was him. There had been many days and nights where she imagined how she'd react whenever a situation like this would ever unfold... Yet in the end, she'd wave the idea out of her mind. As if that would ever happen...
'I-... Wh-' There were no words. She was happy. Happy? Or was she angry? Happy? Angry? Gently landing a few meters away from the Scott, Nico held the broom gently in her hands, now frozen in place as her eyes again watched him carefully. This was supposed to be just another day of shooting hoops. And... here we are.

His darkened and furrowed gaze never lost sight of the figure slowly coming to realise that there was another present in the stands. His size usually giving most away from afar, it would likely take her just a few seconds to come to a conclusion. As Nico flew closer and closer and came to a halt not far from him, he lifted his chin upon inspection. A wide smirk cracked open his hard facial features which were rapidly changing the more he grew. His arms locked behind his back, a sigh escaped his breath. "Nico..." He spoke in his signature low voice. "It's been a while."
Stating the obvious was almost needed in a confrontation like this. How else were they going to chip the hardest bits out? "Saw you made it to third year, congrats." He smiled and nodded to confirm it to himself. School did not particularly interest him, at least not the multitude of opinions stacked between the lessons and activities. People were fickle and prone to judge. Still, it was good to see her able to adapt and follow the regular flow of life in the wizarding world. She would likely fare far better than him in the world behind the walls of Hogwarts waiting for them.
Uncertainty draped itself around him as he waited for her to reply in turn. His face left little to show to her. He had come back with a mission. One that had little to do with her. Still, old friends needed to be checked on and the few he had were scattered around the castle.

'No kidding...' She muttered, her grip slowely tightening around the shaft of her broom. He had some guts to just show up out of nowhere. Trying to figure out how she felt and what she could say, a train of thoughts raced through her mind.
Not even a owl. Not a single one. They were best friends, no? Or was this friendship not as precious to him as it was to her. Did he maybe just got tired of her?
The anxiety rose up from her feet, creeping up on her spine. The lack of knowing these answers scared her. It reminded her of the crazy stuff that had happened. How she had lost her faith in her own House she was supposed to feel at home in. If her skin hadn't been so pale, her knuckles would've been clearly turning white. The intensity of her grip was reaching to a max.
And then...
She snapped.
Seemingly out of nowhere, she charged at the Scott and whacked the bristles of her broom repeatingly at him. She didn't care where, aslong as it hit him. In her icecold glaring eyes, two red dots had appeared. It looked as if they were glowing. 'Where have you been?!' WACK. 'Why did you leave me...' WACK. '...without saying anything!?' WACK. 'Do you have any idea...' WACK. '... how you hurt me?' WACK.
By now, two small streams of blood were rolling down her porcelain cheeks but that didn't stop her. She only took a short break to catch her breath and look at the bruises on the palms of her hands. The friction of the wood was slowely digging in her skin. No. Again, she regained her grip on the broomstick of shame.
'Do you have ANY idea...' WACK. '... what I've been through?!' WACK. 'I was here all alone!' WACK. 'And you DARE show up...' WACK. '... with just a It's been a while?!'
By now she was sniffling. Lifting the broom once more to hit him but she gave up... It was enough. With a slight frustrated sigh, she stepped away from him and threw the broom beside her. Walking over to the front of the Stands to look down at the field. Quietly, she wiped her tears with the back of her sleeve.

Anger flickered in her eyes as he noticed her broom rapidly coming at him. "Ow! He- HEY. Stop that!" He raised his arms to try and fend off the broom from his chest. By her final blow he almost tried to pull the damn stick out of her hand. "ENOUGH." His deep voice growled across the stage as he bared his teeth. "I had my own business to take care off." He replied "I've seen you around. You've been fine as I knew you would. Though I may think you are trying to friend just all part-giants here at school." A wide smirk cracked open his rugged face as he joked about her friendship with Healy. "Which I am, yes." He clarified whilst warming his hands in his pockets. "Found out at the start of this year. It's why I left."
The part-giant went to sit where he stood as his eyes lingered on Nico's back. "I found my mum." He couldn't remember if Nico was aware he never met her before. Nor was he sure if the girl was aware that part-giants were undesirables these days. Last year's ball had made sure of that prejudice to spread across the school. "So..." He said as he looked across the pitch. It was weird seeing it without anyone else but them in sight. Likely some other students would have accused him of separating her from the others trying to kill her here. "Still playing then?"

@Hugh LoweThankfully she was wearing black again today. The red tears didn't show on her sleeves as she tried to calm down. A glare still resting upon her face. The redness in her eyes was still present, but less vibrant than before. She glanced down, watching several pairs of students just roaming about.
At first she didn't want to look at him, crossing her arms on the edge of the rail, resting her chin on them.
When he mentioned the befriending Part-Giants, she turned her head towards him. To which he responded that he also was a Part-Giant. She should've seen it coming. Which ... she did... Only after seeing how he grew in size and shape from on her broom earlier. It was very similar to Quinn.
'Your mother? Was she lost?' He had never mentioned something about his parents or family now she thought about it. They never really talked about serious stuff. They were usually just goofing around or hanging out. It felt like forever ago. On one hand she felt happy about that but it also felt kind of sad. Did she never ask him anything?
'Playing? Yes. It helps.' Quidditch had been an immense let out for her. Even though she never really noticed that during the game. But after. She felt usually refreshed. Great. Anew. 'I never thought I would actually play it. I had never heard of it. And... well here I am.' She said with a soft smile. Almost nostalgic.
'So... what has been going on then?' She turned around and rest her back against the wooden rails, wind gently tugging against her strawberry red locks.
