Backstory
Born to half-blood parents Aurelien Duval and Yu Li Ying on the 28th April 2009 in Strasbourg, France, Delilah was raised in magic. However, far from a charmed life, her father died in a magical accident when she was five and her bi-polar mother struggled ever after.
After and because of their loss, they moved to Manchester where clever but haunted Li Ying took a research opportunity at the university. Their airy warehouse apartment overlooked the canal, reminding Delilah of her hometown and, with its tall windows that let through floods of natural light, it was soon partially renovated into an art studio. Her mother worked from home and kept Delilah close, terrified to lose her daughter too. For that year Delilah knew little other than the smell of oil paints and nicotine and the sound of Mahler and her mother's crying. The little French girl was saved when on her 6th birthday and the first without her father, her magic began to cry with her and it rained all throughout their apartment. Her mother was shocked out of her tragedy and claimed her little girl had washed away their grief and from thereon there would be only joy and love in their home. They began to go out, to parks and art galleries, and even got in touch with her grandparents, visiting them in Xi'an for months on end, which unbeknownst to Delilah was whenever her mother was encouraged to take leave for the sake of her health.
Delilah received a world class education from her family, her grandfather being a keen and adept mathematician and her grandmother a poet and scholar. There were of course children her age that lived nearby or who she would meet when out but Delilah never really wanted friends outside of her family.
Appearance
Delilah is tall and slight with long straight hair that's almost as black as her eyes and warm but pale skin that can verge on sickly looking in winter. Her sharp straight features are softened by the roundness of her eyes and lips, which have a prominent cupids bow. She mostly wears her hair down and free, apart from in potions, where she pins it up with her favourite flowery hairpin. She's never without a bright pinky red colour to her lips and cheeks and has a strong if unadvisable preference for heavy green eyeshadow. She always wears her jade bracelet, even to sleep.
Personality
She adores the arts, and can be found sketching, oil painting or studying, when not simply lying somewhere and dreaming. Sensitive, whimsical and idealistic, Delilah listens to romantic operas and loves to be out in the fresh air, surrounded by flowers and trees. She's not shy, but usually leaves speaking to the people around her, as she finds the world noisy enough without her voice added. She's more likely to talk to individuals she meets by the library, on the grounds or strolling the castle by night.
