Sorting Ceremony 2020-2021

The moment the great hall doors opened, Daniel was surprised, never did he expect or seen such a hall, candles floating above 4 thick long tables, which seats had mostly been filled with other students from different years, a large gaping smile on his face as they walked further down the hall, the other newcomers would be whispering with each other, until they reach their destination at the very front.

As they reached the end of the aisle, Daniel would lay his eyes upon a ragged hat that sat on a seemingly ordinary wooden stool in front of him, he would stuff his hands into his pockets, as one by one each new student was called up to sit down and have the hat placed on their head, from which the hat, which from Daniel's surprise, actually talked, though he heard this from his father as a boy, he didn't imagine it could actually talk, would choose what house the students would be assigned to.

"Wolf, Daniel"

His name was called, and immediately without looking around he could tell most eyes were fixated on him, he'd slowly walk up to the stoop, and as he sat down, his eyes would immediately roll to look up as the hat is placed upon his head, and immediately he could feel the hat moving.

The sorting hat began talking, which was quite a funny deep voice up close "Oh, Well is this very interesting..A Wolf has entered these halls once again, most of your family have been Ravenclaws..but I feel something different about you, young one.."

"Well...I have always been told I am different.." Daniel spoke

"Ahh yes,.kind to your fellow students, with that trait you'd surely get along with others...and Ambitious, I feel a great many things ahead of you, and finally, loyalty, I know the house for you...

The hat would fall silent for but a moment, before shouting so the whole hall could hear him --

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

A cheer sounded from the Hufflepuff table, he'd step from the stool, walking over to the table, a smile still on his face, sitting down at the front of the table next to a few others of the newcomers that had also been selected to Hufflepuff, he did wish he had been a Ravenclaw like his father before him, but he hadn't heard much about the houses when he was younger but if the hat chose Hufflepuff then it must be the House for him.

Cody was shaking hard, one because of the boat ride over, and two because of the sheer fright he was feeling. Standing there hundreds of kids standing close together made the time seem to slow seconds turned into minutes as the sorting process began. A man (which Cody guessed was the headmaster) took out an old worn out that a nd sat it on a stool. A little slit appeared on it and it began to sing. After the song was over kids started to get called.up one by one, after they were called up the hat was placed on their head.
After a co hope of minutes (which felt like hours) they got to C and Cody was called up he took a deep breath and came up to the stool. Once he sat down the hat was placed upon his head, it started to speak it specifically said hmm tough one he seems to have a passion for magical creatures and doesn't seem to have a bad mind either let's go with Gryffindor Cody jumped with joy both his mother and his father had been in Gryffindor so he was very relieved. As he sat down he was patted in the back and cheered on. He never felt better.

Elisabeth was incredibly tired. There was nothing more she would rather do tonight than having a quick, hot shower and going to bed straightforwardly; she was not even interested in having supper.

Unfortunately, the school had another plan set.

All students were to dine, and there was no way for new students like Elisabeth to skip the feast because they would be sorted into houses that very evening. Even though none of her family had been a student at Hogwarts, Elisabeth knew very well from what she had heard that it is a requirement for each pupil to have a house (and that was where their beds were).

The eleven-year-old listened as the Sorting Hat described the typical qualities possessed by a student of each house.

"You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart. Their daring, nerve, and chivalry set Gryffindors apart..." Hmmm, perhaps not for me.

"... You might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil..." I don't think I'm patient. And I am certainly not that hard-working. But this sounds like a great house because justice, loyalty, and honesty are valued!

"... Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw if you've got a ready mind, where those of wit and learning will always find their kind..." I'm definitely not into learning, but the house of wisdom certainly is interesting. Maybe I'm fit for this, too.

"... Or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends. Those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends." Well... I... sometimes I can be sneaky... but "using any means"? As in trampling innocent people? Is this what the Sorting Hat means? If so, then I don't think this is the house for me.

After the Hat finished singing, first-years were called one by one. It was not in alphabetical order, so perhaps it was arranged according to their birthday - or so Elisabeth thought. Each time a student was called, he or she would sit on the stool provided and the headmaster would place the magic hat onto the child's head. ("Is it enchanted so that no lice outbreak shall ever happen at Hogwarts?" Elisabeth wondered.) Sometimes the Hat would decide immediately, at other times it was rather slow, but eventually one by one the first-years were sorted.

Finally it was her turn. "Erner, Elisabeth!" called the headmaster.

The Hispanic-Asian girl eagerly sat on the three-legged stool and felt the Sorting Hat being put on her head.

"An interesting child," said a voice. But the voice did not go through her ears; instead, it was straight into her brain. The Sorting Hat was talking to Elisabeth using telepathic communication! "Yes, very interesting. A mixture of everything. Not so much of a Gryffindor though. Creative like typical Ravenclaws. A little ambitious like most Slytherin - but ah! The ambitions can be traced back to one thing you long for most of all - love and acceptance.

"Yes, yes, you're a creative witch, an introvert I believe, who wants nothing more but being happy because she's accepted and loved for whoever she is. I see something else very clear inside you, child - a strong code of moral, of what is right and what is wrong. Definitely you do things because they're morally right and not because they're popular, materially rewarding, or expected by others, huh?"

I guess so, Elisabeth thought, feeling proud about it, but also slightly guilty as she felt some arrogance might rise.

"Humble, too! There's no doubt that you embody the qualities of -

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Elisabeth heard the Hat shouted the last word out loud; everyone in the Great Hall surely heard it. They clapped just as they had clapped for the first-years who had been sorted before, and the eleven-year-old dark-haired girl beamed: the Sorting Hat had decided that she belonged to the house of the just and the honest.

As the Sorting Ceremony took place, Perry sat with a grin. His parents were proud Gryffindors. However he wanted nothing of the sort, he wanted to be Hufflepuff. He always thought of himself as brave and loyal. At least towards those he likes. He was tired at the time. But he was ready for the sorting. However, it did not happen yet, countless students took their turn. Yet Perry wasn't fortunate enough to be one of the first to be sorted. As the special hat sang it's tune, Perry became increasingly annoyed.

Eventually arrived Perry's turn, and Perry happily walked over to The Sorting Hat. He looked at The Sorting Hat, and wondered how it could possibly speak. Magic was truly amazing and wonderful. But what were the limits? These thoughts were mind boggling. Perry decided that he'd leave these thoughts for later, he stepped up to the Sorting Hat and the hat was placed onto his head.

"Yes a strange child, loyal, clever, full of truth. You appear to embody a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff," The Sorting Hat magically spoke.

Perry crossed his fingers, he was cold, unusually cold. What if he was sorted into Ravenclaw? What would he do with himself. He closed his eyes and crossed his fingers.

"But your loyalty and truth is so strong, you embody-"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"

There were wonderous claps and cheers all around. 'Yes, I'm a Hufflepuff!' Thought the young eleven year old. He had been sorted into the House of Truth, Loyalty, and Fairness. Just as he'd hoped.

"Have yourself, a merry little Christmas."

The Great Hall was a place of wonder and awe, as to be expected at a place like Hogwarts. Orion, however, was nervous for what was about to happen.

He shuffled through the large doors just like any other first year, surrounded by strangers that he might become friends with. At least, he hoped he'd make friends. Orion was practically dancing with excitement, and stayed patient as the line of people barely moved. There was a tinge of worry mixed in the waves of happiness, but he tried to be optimistic. This was Hogwarts after all!

He stopped to shake the supposed headmaster's hand, and gave him a smile as he walked by. Orion didn't pay attention to the hat being placed down, or the song it sung, but was snapped out of his thoughts as names started being called. One by one the tables cheered and welcomed new people. He was definitely curious at what house he'd be in. Wasn't everyone else dying to know what the hat would tell them?

Eventually, he heard a voice ring out over the student's.

"Stone, Orion!"

The worry suddenly grew. What if he got a house that didn't fit him? What if the other people in the house didn't like him? What if he didn't make any friends or got bullied? His feet seemed to grow heavier as he forced himself onto the stool.

"I can sense the loyalty in you." The hat whispered to him. "It only seems fair to place you in HUFFLEPUFF!"

The Hufflepuff tablet roared and cheered as he joined them. All the worry was washed away. He belonged here, didn't he?

I looked around, the bright, warm glow of the hall flashing. The new first years were gathering, waiting to be sorted, and I followed them along. The students sitting were murmuring, laughing and greeting long known friends, and I stood, longing for a relationship such as on here.

"The sorting ceremony has started!" I looked up, and watched as the hat wiggled to life.

"Corrids, Eliza!" My eyes grew, as I walked up to the hat and sat down. The floor boards were smooth as my boots hit them, and I eagerly fiddled with my sleeve.

The hat moaned, as if asking and wondering as what to do. "Slytherin is your dream, yes?" It whispered, as I thought, *Yes yes! Just as my parents were!* I bit my lip and my heart thumped. "Courageous, Daring, ay? Well, a twist it is."

"GRYFFINDOR!!" The hat shouted. I looked in awe, as the table roared and cheered. *N-not Slytherin?* I worried, wobbling back to the table. The students welcomed me, but I shivered, begging my parents wouldn't freak. We had always been Slytherins. I listened to the rest of the students being sorted, as prefects and students of all years welcomed me.

Katie stretched her arms and tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for her name to be called. Katie already had a pretty good idea of where she would be sorted. Her whole family had been in Slytherin, and Katie felt like a Slytherin herself. She was pretty cunning, and Katie was nothing if not ambitious. Katie didn't agree with her parents on returning though. There was a lot different about Katie compared to her parents. For school house though, Katie was like them in the regard that she thought she would be best suited to Slytherin.

Katie fidgeted with the hem of her short, when widely, her name was called: "Katie Palsorette!". Katie's hearty leaped in excitement. Note the far could make her house official. After all of these years Katie had imagined what it would be like at Hogwarts, and now she was finally here. Katie almost couldn't believe it. With a slight swish of her two wavy brown ponytails, she elegantly walked out and took a seat on the stool. While Katie had wanted to run out , excitement, Katie knew that if word got back to her parents that Katie had ran to the sorting hat, her parents would have been furious.

Katie wondered what the older years were thinking as they watched her. Katie knew that they had to be hoping she would end up in their house, but Katie was curious if they were bored as they watched more and more first years get sorted every year. Katie silently apologized if they were bored. At the same time, Katie wasn't all that sympathetic, because Katie knew that they had once been first years getting sorted too. Katie felt the sorting hat be placed over her head. She sported a goofy grin in anticipation.
"Why hello Miss. Palsorette"
the sorting hat said inside of her brain.

Katie figured the hat must be like a mirror of some sort that reflected back all of Katie's traits into the house that fit her best and some basic charm to announce it to the school. Unless it was possible to transfigure something like a conscious hat? Or the hat could be like a portrait of all four founders with the portrait-founders deciding which house would be best suited for each first year.
"My my my, what a mind we have here. I must say, very interesting theories you have on my origins."
the sorting hat said, interrupting her thoughts.

Can't a hat give me a hint, she thought ferociously, trying to get the sorting hat's attention by thinking that thought in every portion of her brain. Please, she practically whined mentally.
"Now that would be telling,"
the sorting hat's voice said, cutting back into her thoughts.

Katie sighed mentally. Why wouldn't some dumb hat just tell her it's secrets. Well maybe Katie could learn it's secrets.
"Hmmm, a thirst for knowledge have we hear. Perhaps a young Ravenclaw on our hands?"
the hat said to her, as though it was trying to gauge Katie's reaction to it's suggestion of her being a Ravenclaw.

Katie was quickly getting quote annoyed and frustrate with the hat. Maybe Katie could dissect the hat to figure out it's secrets? The hat would probably be protected against seamrippers, but maybe once she learned a fire producing spell it'd work. She could plan it all out and sneak into the headmaster's off-

"SLYTHERIN! SLYTHERIN! SLYTHERIN! SHE'S IN SLYTHERIN!!!!" the sorting hat screamed, flying off of her head. Katie looked around a bit, and unsurprisingly saw a sea of eyes starting at her on slight shock, and a hint blue amusenent. Katie got up and walked over to get new house, her robes changing to a dark green with silver accents on the way.

With big and fast steps Jill walked up to the chair. She could not hide her smile anymore, she was just too excited about finally getting sorted into one of the houses. She was hoping for Ravenclaw, but she somehow knew that she was not that intelligent. The hat got placed on her head and shewas getting kinda nervous.
"Oh a girl fighting for the things she desires. Protecting the ones she loves. And is not afraid to do anything if it helps her achieve her dreams. I see. "Gryffindor" shouted the sorting hat. Jill stood up, a great feeling in her stomach and she walked to her new table. Gryffindor. She did not ever think about being a Gryffindor. It was always either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. But now that she belongs to the house of the lion, she knows that it is just the right thing for her.
Besides chatting with her new classmates and admiring the delicious food, she thinks about what her family might say to the sorting. Her dad was a slytherin, as a proud pureblood this was not much of a surprise. Her brothers both were Ravenclaws. But gryffindor actually is not a bad house, she is actually pretty happy with it, and her father just has to deal with it. She won't see him that often anymore anyways.

As the first-years walked through the doors to the Great Hall, Angie was in awe. Having grown up in a rural town, this was the most people she'd ever seen. This room was bigger than her entire house! As the group walked toward the Sorting Hat, she entertained the thought of joining her brother in Ravenclaw. But wouldn't it be lovely if he was a Slytherin like her father? Angie thought she could be sorted into any of the houses, as everyone has qualities of multiple. But which is most prevalent in her? Soon she was lost in thought...
"Oakley, Angie"

Angie snapped back into reality, and walked through what remained of the crowd. As she turned around to sit, she spotted her brother's smiling face. He shot her a thumbs up!
The Sorting Hat was placed upon her head. It was so big it covered her eyes! Angie allowed some time for the Hat to examine her thoughts...
An open mind... an eagerness to learn... could you join your brother?
Technically, yes, this was true. But was this house the best fit? Angie noted that she has always felt disconnected from her brother's calculated words and careful actions.
Seemingly replying to her thoughts, the hat continued.
Hmm, maybe not... ah! like your father, you have a strong urge to prove yourself... but, you seek friendship and adventure above all...yes, I know just what to do with you!
Angie held her breath.
*GRYFFINDOR!*
One of the tables, presumably Gryffindor's, roared with applause. As she walked over, Angie received a pat on the back from an upperclassman, who then turned their attention back to the ceremony. Beaming, Angie looked over to her brother, who mouthed "you did great!" He sent her a reassuring smile, and in that split second they might as well have had an hours-long conversation, because all of the typical confidence returned to Angie as she sat with her house for the very first time.

Annie stood in the Great Hall for the first time, stunned by the amazing room before her. Looking around at the other students, she was reassured to see that most of the other first years looked just as nervous as she was. Her sister Luella, at the Gryffindor table, gave her a reassuring smile. Annie tried to smile back.
She turned her attention to the Headmaster. After a short speech, he started to call names. With every name called, Annie became more nervous.

And finally, "Byrd, Suzanne."

Annie slowly walked through the crowd of students to the front of the room. She sat down on the stool and the Headmaster placed the hat on her head.

Ah, a Byrd. I remember your sister, Luella. Let's see... I see wisdom; intelligence.

That would be Ravenclaw, Annie thought. Her mother, a former Ravenclaw, hoped Annie would be sorted into this house.

But also loyalty, hard work, kindness.

Hufflepuff, Annie thought. Most people she knew, including Annie herself, thought she would be sorted into Hufflepuff.

But what is this? Very fierce. Hm... Ah yes. GRYFFINDOR!

There was a loud cheer from the Gryffindors. Annie got shakily to her feet and joined the Gryffindor table, sitting next to her sister. "Wow Annie, this is a surprise." Luella said. "Welcome to Gryffindor!" Annie was just as surprised as her sister. She had always assumed she would be in Hufflepuff, but at the same time, she was proud of being in Gryffindor.
