It seems that she had been right about heading to the Gryffindor Common Room (obviously). The girl Callista had spotted earlier [Martyna Romero] spurred the ghost cat - Star, she thought someone had named her - to lead them to the next location.

A dead end... leading straight towards one portrait. This has to be it.

"Hey, you tots! What do you want? Looking all fancy, huh? Do you want to undermine us with your fancy dresses and costumes? Showing us that you are invited to a party, rubbing it in our faces?!" the portrait certainly did not seem happy to see them. Callista's eyes narrowed. He proceeded to taunt them and essentially shoo them away.

Clearly, no one appreciated this, and one of the older girls [Sapphire Riddle] decided to reply with a few... choice words. Callista winced. Although she understood the girl's annoyance, she tended to keep her wording clean. Another boy [Alexander Ward] said something similar.

Apparently this knight had been feuding with the man in the other painting - Laiks Denbora, presumably. Well he certainly wasn't making it hard for people to dislike him. The knight had a sword, and was quite obviously a Gryffindor. Deciding not to impart any remarks she might regret later, she resorted to leaning against the wall and observing the man. Surely, if he had indeed harmed the man, his clothing or sword would be stained, right? And that piece of cloth... it must have been torn.

There didn't seem to be much else waiting for him here. Whether or not @Dan Palmer tagged along, Andrew would follow those who were led away by the ghost cat, toward the Gryffindor Common room, to a side corridor with another hanging portrait at the end of the hallway. Andrew didn't take the man's remarks personally. It wasn't the man's fault he was painted that way, so there was no point in arguing with him or expecting his personality to change. What mattered most was solving this mystery, and from the looks and sounds of it, it seemed like this Gryffindor guy was a vital link to it all.

Keeping his cool, Andrew would approach the portrait. While he would have held his tongue to examine for clues -- no doubt he would have plenty of other eyes around to do that for him -- he decided to jump right into interrogation instead. Hopefully this action wouldn't compromise the mission, rushing into things, but Andrew just wanted this whole chase to be over with. Being subtle and beating around the bush wasn't one of his strong suits.

"We're not playing, Sir," Andrew said solemnly, narrowing his eyes at the man. "What do you know about Paran Taja and Laiks Denbora?"

"Nox," Henry muttered quietly as he extinguished his wand not wanting to disturb any of the paintings but kept it at a ready position as he listened to his dueling captain; Dmitri. However he wasn't expecting to be directly referred to by the fourth year so when he was, Henry almost jumped back a little but quickly composed himself as he nodded to his words before watching him cast sonorous on a fellow dueling member; Astrea and a slytherin boy; Percival Rainwood however Henry wasn't concerned whom he cast it on just that he cast it and now was intrigued with the spell. For it has been one that the boy has been studying for a while and was eager to learn, he would have spent the rest of the night studying the spell if he hadn't heard Opeila converse with Dmitri whom asked them to investigate further in which Henry spoke up, " got it, the thing is through if the painting is Mungo Bonham then why is he wearing armor and how do we know that he can help the painting? Can apparitions help paintings or physical objects?" Henry thought over the question then watched the girl in the moon costume; Martyna run off somewhere which struck him as strange however he started to make his way toward Søren and when he was close enough, Henry asked him " find anything else? Did the paintings tell you anything?"
Second Location
However he couldn't spend to much time at the painting anymore for the cat now names Star took off and Henry decided to follow it as he ran after it alone somehow that was enough time for thoughts to fill the boy's head.

If the apparition isn't Mungos Bonham then who is he? And is the cat taking us to the man Paran Taja? Then who is the apparition? Is he someone notable to Hogwarts maybe or no one of importance? Maybe..... ugh think Henry! What if you can't.... are you contributing anything or are you just a waste of space at the current moment? What am I doing? Should I just leave.... it's not like I'm helping or anything.... no stop it, not here and not now....just breath... yeah breath.... in and out

The boy readied his wand and tried to push out his thoughts for the time being when he noticed that Star stopped in front of a painting with a man wearing a gryffindor scarf. Henry approached Kara then as he kept his eyes on the painting but said to her " find anything else yet? I sadly didn't," Henry then pointed at the painting with his wand before saying " who do you think he is? Why do think Stat brought us here?" Henry then saw Piper and smiled a bit at her as he asked the girl " did you find any clues?" Before turning his attention to the painting and asking it " I'm sorry to bother you sir however, who are you? Are you Paran Taja? Laiks Denbora? Godric Gryffindor? Who are you and why did Star- I mean the cat apparition lead us to you? As Henry waited for his answers, he kept a eye on his dueling captain just in case the older year called over the duelers again or for another reason.

Okay... what the hell was happening to her? Despite her incredibly elite athletic prowess, Ami had completely neglected to hit the painting with her feather, instead making poor Chuck sneeze. She knew that deep down, in her heart of hearts, that she had seized up with mild anger at seeing Anastasia, but she certainly wouldn't acknowledge it. Grumbling slightly to herself, wholly annoyed with her incompetence, she turned to Chuck with an apologetic grin. "Sorry, Chuck," she said, before glancing around at the mass of students.

A good number of them seemed interested in interrogating the portraits on the walls, while others examined the painting of the man that happened to be bleeding out. "What to do, what to do..." she muttered under her breath as she glanced around. Something fishy was going on, and she was going to get to the bottom of it. What a heroine she would be, if she did! Would Alexx write an article about her in the Headliner?

Swallowing awkwardly as she tried to reign her thoughts in, Ami removed her mask from her head, handing it to Scott. "Hold this," she instructed without even glancing at him, but then startled as she heard the mask clatter to the ground. Quickly picking it back up, she blinked slowly as she realized that Scott was nowhere near them. In fact, the Gryffindor fourth year had disappeared completely, to her shock. In the midst of all the chaos, she hadn't realized that their friend had completely vanished. Staring at Charlie with her eyes wide, Ami stammered out, "I- well. Uh. I guess it's just... you and me..."

This was not how this night was supposed to go.

It seemed that a majority of their classmates were heading to the Gryffindor Common Room, as some information from the surrounding portraits had revealed something interesting was there. However, Ami still hesitated, glancing at the portrait of the bleeding man with a crease in her brow.

"Chuck," she muttered, glancing around at the slowly vacating area, "Something's afoot. Amiss! Awry. Let's try this again, shall we? Ask around and figure out what we know. Maybe if we stay here and clean things up on this end, we won't be missing any crumbs and we can let the Gryffindor group know."

Pushing past the students, Ami made her way to stand directly in front of the painting. Brandishing her wand, she gently prodded the painting with the tip of her wand. She had hyper-fixated on her query on whether or not the threat was physical or of the painting world, and she wouldn't stop until she figured it out.

After hearing what the painting said about the clues being near the Gryffindor common room but not actually in it, Alexa felt elated. Maybe she could go there and discover something! As soon as she realized this, she saw the ghost cat begin moving down the hall. With a large group of students, she set off after the animal, and it led them to a dead-end hallway, where the portrait of an angry Gryffindor holding a sword spoke to them. He was not very polite.

"What is your name, sir?" Alexa decided politeness might be the best approach. "Do you know anything about Paran Taja and Laiks Denbora? Surely a brave and worthy Gryffindor such as yourself knows what's going on," she added with a winning smile. Maybe he could be flattered into answering. He certainly seemed like one who cared greatly for his appearance; maybe cared a great deal for his status as a Gryffindor as well.

While she waited for an answer, Alexa began scanning for clues in the hallway. Maybe there was something in the other paintings, or the Gryffindor painting at the end of the hall?

Tina's face split into a grin when she realised that it was her that was leading the way, of all people. She might have been useless thus far - not even able to eat a sweet probably because of scary older students freaking her out - but that was a Tina of the past! She was a changed woman now. She was ferocious, strong, and most importantly, a leader. As the sparkling, ghostly cat slinked by her (she couldn't help but jump when she saw it, but recovered quickly) Tina followed behind it, speeding up her pace. She had faith that the creature would redirect her if she'd messed up on understanding the clues everyone else had so helpfully uncovered, so that she wouldn't make a complete fool of herself, at least. She'd seen the way it had behaved with Kara, and even if the whole dead thing creeped her out, it seemed pleasant enough.

She stuck her hands on her round, moon-y hips, continuing all the way up the many sets of stairs to where she understood the Gryffindor Common Room to be. She didn't think much of the mystical change in lighting as the group approached apart from it eliciting a quiet sound of admiration from Tina herself. The Hufflepuff was easily impressed. Before they reached the Common Room, however, Tina's new feline companion turned down a narrow, side-corridor. It wouldn't have been so far-fetched to imagine that this tiny hallway had appeared just now, as this was Hogwarts and Tina hadn't ever noticed it before, despite how much time she'd spent last month milling about outside Gryffindor. Then again, she wasn't the most observant of folks.

The girl followed Star, turning on her side to avoid brushing the many portraits that lined the walls, eyeing them curiously as she passed. She was still leading the pack, though as she came into the room, many followed and were quick to start investigating, busying themselves. They had more practice at all this than her, she reckoned, wondering briefly if stuff like this happened often at Hogwarts...

Of course, there was no time to ignore the elephant in the room. They had a dying portrait dude to save! Realistically, it was impossible not to notice the man pictured on the wall before them, with the way he took up so much space, more or less demanding their full attention. He leaned on his sword, which sunk menacingly into the ground, and panic prickled Tina's neck for a moment. She had to remind herself that no, he wasn't going to cut her up alive. He was a painting. He couldn't do anything. What a loser.

"Hey, you tots! What do you want? Looking all fancy, huh?" Tina looked at everyone else. Yes. Yes they were, she thought spitefully. There was a barely audible huff that escaped her mouth from the frustration that came with this thought, and she folded her arms across her chest in defiance. "Do you want to undermine us with your fancy dresses and costumes? Showing us that you are invited to a party, rubbing it in our faces?! Good luck with that. Go on, and play somewhere else!"

Quite taken aback now, Tina was a little offended. Were all portraits at Hogwarts as rude and victim-blaming as this one? They couldn't enjoy the 'party' (not that she really was) thanks to something that had happened with these very portraits. Probably him, specifically. He seemed like an arsehole. Just as she was about to voice these less-than-savoury thoughts to the rest of the group, however, an older girl with white-blonde hair made a sneering comment, far more scathing than the one she was planning on. @Sapphire Riddle

"Oh, stop it!" All of a sudden, she was on the same side as the sentient painting, frowning up at the pale-skinned Slytherin besides her. This was a near perfect display of how easily Tina could be influenced, and how quickly her mood changed. "I bet you'd be pretty angry if you weren't invited. Let's all be a bit nicer!" There was no strategy behind this suggestion at first, but it only took a moment for Tina to realise that she could use this to her advantage. She stared up at the sword-guy, smiling with all her teeth. "Why don't you go to the party, mister sword guy? I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Oh! Or why don't you host a portrait party!"

That was a cool idea if she'd ever heard one! She glanced at Sapphire, smirking wisely.

"Speaking of partying... There's like, this other portrait, and he's pretty beaten up." Tina gave a sad nod. 'Twas an unfortunate fate... Did this have anything to do with partying? Well, not really, but she hoped he might skip over that part. "Apparently someone around here did it. Reckon you could, uh, go fix him up or something?"

SAPPHIRE WAS SNAPPED OUT OF HER THOUGHTS BY ANOTHER COMMENT, AIMED TOWARDS HER. To be frank, she wasn't expecting anyone to acknowledge her presence, but she hadn't exactly been quiet with her statement. She sighed, turning away from her observations to face the person who'd spoken. "Apologies. I'm on edge," she replied, voice back to it's normal quiet levels.

However, the idea of a portrait party was kind of funny. She restrained a wry grin. She also recognized that talking to the portrait about the injured one was a good idea, one she was disappointed to have not come up with. She sighed to herself. No use now.

She would return to her examinations, looking back over the painting and surroundings. She began muttering to herself. "Who exactly is this guy? He looks like he'd probably be important, maybe some sort of famous Gryffindor? The founder himself, perhaps? I don't know, I'm coming up with blanks. I should really focus more on history. That would be helpful. Is there anything else off? What about the other paintings? How do they seem to be reacting?" She turned her gaze towards the surrounding portraits, trying to gauge their faces. That seemed like the best course of action to her.

There's gotta be something, she thought.

Ana cast a sideways glance as she heard someone begin to speak. The venom in her gaze lessened ever so slightly when she was able to once again assign a name to the face. While he definitely fell under the general category of annoying first year, he was someone she was rather fond of, as one might be fond of a stray puppy. There was a short curly-haired boy that she vaguely recognized as another Gryffindor and a boy that she didn't particularly remember. Her focus turned back to Marshal after assessing his companions."Ah, yes, I'm sure commentary on your straggering intellect never ceases," she said dryly. As the younger boy spoke about the painting, her gaze returned to the object in question. Her call hadn't been answered, and her smooth brow furrowed for a moment. Perhaps the Paran Taja fellow had been the one dragged away. "Paran Taja, and he's allegedly saving the bloke in this painting, only there's not a sign of him. If you're right and those are drag marks, perhaps he was dragged away. I doubt anyone else'll be able to do much of anything to help. Although honestly, that does make you wonder who in their right minds would paint something like this if there was a chance of this happening."

Her graceful fingers tapped absently on her side as she tried to think or find any further clues. While Marshal probably wasn't the most brilliant person there, but he was another set of eyes, so she shot him a glance and arched an eyebrow to see if he had anything more to add.

As she continued to look about for a clue or anything to explain what on earth was going on, she saw the cat beginning to move again. With a quick glance at Marshal, she set off after the cat again. God, why wouldn't the cat or whoever was in charge of this explain what was happening so that Ana could go back to her date? Prior to the encounter with Rose and Eyre, she had actually been having a lovely time, and would quite like to return to that. As she strode after the cat, her thoughts wandered slightly. She really was an absolutely terrible date to these sorts of things.

The cat seemed not particularly inclined to actually enter the Gryffindor Common Room, stopping just short and turning into a side corridor that Ana hadn't noticed before or if she had, hadn't ever paid much mind to. Her eyes darted around, eager to discover whatever was behind this mystery. She rolled her eyes and scoffed at the unpleasant painting. "Perhaps if you were a bit more pleasant and also not a bloody painting, you might be invited to parties," she muttered to nobody in particular. Her eyes continued to sweep the room, desperate for anything to explain what the bloody hell was going on.

Ruka could feel something like relief flooding through him when he caught a glimpse of Dealla catching up with them.

He hadn't expected her to, had thought she might want to follow her Ball Date instead since he hadn't seemed too happy about her talking to him in the first place. That she had chosen to come here instead caused his cheeks to flush furiously, and he was almost tempted to put his mask on again just to hide it.

Instead he just tilted his head forward, facing the ground in time to spot something right beneath them, something like... Candy?

Curiously he slid off the broom to pick it up, examining it for a moment before tucking it away in his bag and looking back up again in time to see Dealla joining their little group, clearly a bit flustered from having to move so quickly to be able to catch up.

"I thought you might have preferred a challenge," Ruka told her with a vaguely apologetic expression on his face, though his lips curled into a little smirk, his head tilting in a nod to express his gratitude for her following them. She didn't genuinely seem upset, but Ruka did genuinely feel a little sorry about flying off so abruptly before she had even had the chance to let him know if she'd wanted to come along or not. "Maybe your thoughts just weren't happy enough," he retorted playfully, reaching out to brush a bit of glitter out of her hair where it had gotten caught earlier on. "Because there seems to be plenty of pixie dust on you even still." He chuckled lightly before pulling his hand back again.

Watching Dealla for a moment, Ruka's eyes lit up excitedly when she had clearly found out the secret of their flight, her hand brushing against the silky material of the invisibility cloak and causing her face to take on a suspicious expression before she resigned herself to the decision of not particularly wanting to fly anyway. A sudden change of mind that had Ruka tilting his head to the side questioningly. She hadn't said anything to ruin the illusion they had created, but a part of him wondered if her sudden reluctance came from the realisation that they were using a broom to keep afloat.

So Aphrodite was most likely not a Quidditch Player then.

Deciding not to comment on it at the moment at least - Surely they'd have time to talk about this later? - Ruka let a small smile settle on his face as he watched Dealla greeting first Jack and then Jake, obvious delight on her face at the sight of the adorable frog costume.

Jake seemed happy to be acknowledged albeit a bit shy, maybe even a little embarrassed about his costume, which stood out amongst most of the other students dressed in their masquerade outfits, fancy suits and pretty dresses. At least in their little group of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and their little Lost Boy, however, Jake had no reason to feel out of place, so Ruka just offered him an encouraging smile before humming in acknowledgment when he was talked to.

Standing next to the broom, Ruka could feel Jake's hand on his shoulder, and he reached up to place his own on top of the younger boy's, giving it a comforting squeeze.

"I'm sure, I promise," he said lightly. All he had found so far was some candy on the ground, and the painting on the wall had been so crowded that it had been difficult to make out what was on it in the first place. Ruka had decided to follow the crowd on foot, next to Dealla, leaving his brother in charge of the broom for the time being. It almost seemed a bit like a Tour, with how many people there were, all of them eagerly looking for clues and following the Ghost Cat wherever it was leading.

They were going a floor up, towards the Gryffindor Common Room, which Ruka had heard a few people around him talk about, though in all the hustle he hadn't really understood what was going on exactly.

"It's a mystery with far too many detectives involved," he told Dealla with a little wink as he walked down the hallway, always following the group. "I'm not usually found in a crowd," he admitted, shrugging lightly as he looked around himself. The hallways here were familiar, not only because his own Common Room was on this floor but also because he frequently visited another location on it.

With a little sigh he turned towards the crowd again. It made him feel restless, just sticking to the path, going along with whatever was happening around him. The promise of a mystery to be solved had intrigued him, but with so many people trying to solve the same mystery at once, being there almost felt a bit redundant.

"Are you invested in the cruel murder of a painting?" he asked Dealla with a little chuckle. "Or would you be up to straying off the path for a bit?"

Silver quirked an eyebrow as the ghost cat, seemingly content with its glance over the rehearsal room, padded once more down the hall. Gripping her mask in her hand, she followed it, along with all the other students milling about around her, to a large painting framed in gold. It took a moment for the crowd of students to clear out of the way between Silver and the painting, but her view of it brought Silver to an abrupt halt. There, on the ground underneath the subject of the painting, was a puddle of blood. Dark red, pooling blood. Her breath hitching, Silver forced her hands, with had leapt up to grasp each other tightly, back down to her sides.

She wasn't quite sure when she had started to fear- no, be uncomfortable around- blood, or even what caused it. If she really thought about it, blood was just something that ran through everyone's veins, not something to rationally fear and dread the sight of. And yet, despite all her sheltered thoughts when she was safe and far from the substance, despite the urges of her mother to stop acting like a toddler and get over herself, Silver simply couldn't keep herself from paling whenever she saw a wound. Now, she closed her eyes- for a second at most, not daring to keep them shut any longer than that, and took three deep, steadying breaths. She was in the middle of a search, a hunt, to win her family pride and glory, and now was not the time to let herself be seen as weak. Slowly opening her eyes, Silver took one last steadying breath and cast the matter from her mind.

She could hear the students near her frantically asking the portraits around them who the man in the painting was and if they could help him. Silver sneered. This was clearly meant to be part of the mystery, and it was clear that only solving the riddle would allow them to "save" this man. What did it matter if he died, anyways? It was just scraps of paint, anyways. Just some red pigment- not blood. It wasn't blood. Silver clenched her jaw and stood up straighter, scanning the area around her. Everyone here was asking the wrong question, and if she allowed her mind to dwell on the blood any longer, she would fall into the trap as well.

It didn't matter how to save this man- what mattered was who had done this to him to begin with. To Silver's knowledge, no spells cast by anyone, or anything, outside of the portrait could have any effect on its inhabitant- not that the students casting "Reparo" on the man in the painting seemed to realize this. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Silver glanced around. The students here were clearly perfectly content with casting ineffective spells instead of thinking about where the attacker may be, and what they could be doing to other portraits as they stood there panicking like frightened children. Silver would not make the same mistake. Raising her voice, she evenly met the stares of the many students around her. "Hogwarts students! Are any of you aware of any painting in your school that could possibly wish to do this to another portrait?" Not altogether too confident in the reasoning abilities of those around her, Silver thought it best to take another approach, as well.

Rounding on a portrait hanging next to the one capturing all the other students' attention, Silver adopted a look of faint concern, making sure to pout her lips a bit as she spoke to the painting. Her mother had long taught her how to use her beauty to her advantage, and she planned to put these lessons to good use now. "Excuse me, did you happen to see anyone passing through your painting recently that you don't typically see here? It's just-" she leaned a little closer to the painting. "they could be very dangerous, and I'm sure we'd all just hate to have you or any of your friends to get hurt..."
