Deen vs. Percileen
Percival was clearly still not Dee’s greatest fan and Ileen wasn’t surprised that he picked on Dee – her friend’s reaction was a different story though. As far as Ileen could tell, the young Ravenclaw had always liked to tease Percival, but had never really taken it to a serious level. Today, the mood seemed to change and the Slytherin girl skeptically raised one eyebrow, without letting the two of them out of her sight. Hags were not a funny topic – even if she herself had been lucky enough not to encounter one yet, the Fight Club had brought her close enough to the horror. She had to swallow and Dee's counterattack was also a bit lame.
Her heart sank as she continued to watch their wrangling and thoughtfully rolled the M&Ms between her fingers. Should she pull her wand and jinx them with the sneezing hex? As she considered this, she bit the inside of her cheek, but then discarded the idea. A short sneezing attack would not help here, as the two of them would continue to accompany her and therefore fight. So, there was nothing she could do but try to stay between them and separate them, preferably physically and verbally.
When Ileen was already on the stairs, she wanted to comment on the insults which had just been exchanged. She felt a bit torn as she didn't normally take on the role of mediator and would have preferred to be somewhere else, but now she was here and had to deal with the situation. “For the record, Dee is right. I know enough Purebloods to know that they are as stupid as any other wizards – maybe worse.” She paused, shortly thinking about it and then shrugged. “I guess, most people in general are idiots.” A smile plucked at the corners of her mouth and she poked Dee between the ribs. “And thank you. I have to be a smart role model after all, right?” Well, she never said that she was good in keeping them apart, right?
Glancing at her best friend she couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong today. Clearly, something had happened, but she wouldn’t tell her as long as Percival was around. Maybe they could catch up later.
All in all, the evening wasn’t going as suspected, probably for each of them. Her questions to ease the situation failed – well, they even made it worse. Plus, her patience was coming to an end. She was so tired of everyone always picking on each other and making life difficult, since they had enough problems already!
Her eyebrows met steeply above her nose as she stopped abruptly on the stairs and turned from Dee to Percival and back again with dangerously flashing eyes. Her heart was pounding and she felt the blood rise to her cheeks, as always when she got angry. “Enough already! What’s wrong with the two of you?” She felt like the mother of two bickering infants.

Deen vs. Percileen
Percival glowered at Dealla finding little amusement in how she pawned his jabs at her as if they were intended compliments. The boy's face and chest felt like it had been lit on fire. His face felt hot and he was sure that it would be hot to the touch. No matter how hard he tried to make them insulting. Nothing seemed to breach the impenetrable force that was Dealla's ignorance. Though he doubted it was actually ignorance. Most likely Dealla was just trying to spite him by ignoring his jabs at her. It irked Percival quite a bit. He had put a lot of faith in his stab at her appearance. Comparing someone to a hag did not usually bring about a thank you.
The boy gritted his teeth not liking what she was insinuating. Percival knew he wasn't the smartest child out there, but in no way would he call himself stupid. Being stupid wouldn't have allowed him to escape the Blossom Ball undetected. Being stupid wouldn't have allowed him to sneak out constantly last year. The fire within Percival's chest burned white-hot, and he glared at Dealla through the holes of his mask. Despite his reluctance, Percival knew that she was right. He didn't know much about Ileen as the two only had a few short interactions. Percival wished he could take back his comment which now looked pathetic with Ileen backing Dealla up. The boy would give Ileen a heated glare, but compared to what he was giving Dealla it was rather mild.
Percival truly wanted to turn around and walk away from the pair. Though something made him walk quickly to catch up to Ileen. It could have been his unwillingness to concede. Or the fact that he had been with Ileen first. The boy would hang to the left of Ileen, unwilling to go anywhere near Dealla. He felt embarrassment burn away at his cheeks at Dealla's comment. Looking back on it, the boy wished he had chosen someone else's bed sheets to ruin. Now he was stuck with ruined bedsheets on top of having a crappy night.
The boy's head would shift quickly to look up at Ileen. Percival's expression was completely masked by his costume, and for once Percival was glad for that. His mouth was slightly agape as he stared at Ileen in shock. The boy's initial surprise shifted aside as indignation settled heavily in his chest. "What's wrong with me!? Dealla's what's wrong!" he snapped angrily a Ileen. Percival would whip towards Dealla glaring at her. "This is all your fault. If you weren't such a stupid half-blood." he snarked at the brown-haired girl. The boy did not end up finishing that harsh sentence. Instead, he glared at the girl hoping that she could feel the heat of his glare through the sheet.

Dee was stomping up the stairs next to Ileen with a metaphorical thundercloud above her head that was so tangible it almost crossed over into being literal. She was pointedly not glancing into Percival's direction at all, although she could almost feel the heat of his glare on her. No, he wasn't worth the attention. Maybe being ignored would make him even more furious - that might cheer her up slightly.
So focused on not paying any attention to him she was that she didn't even comment on Ileen agreeing with her over Percival. It didn't really bring her any satisfaction, she'd known this from the start, after all. There had been no doubt about it.
Ileen was clearly trying to lighten the mood, diffuse the tension a bit, but it wasn't really working. While Dee might usually have jumped in on the comment about idiots and Ileen being a role model, she just scowled and backed away from Ileen's prodding fingers, returning the comment with something between a reproachful look and a glare. As if she needed a role model. If Rainwood just had some manners and didn't insist on acting like a complete imbecile, they'd get along splendidly. Maybe.
It was only when Ileen suddenly stopped halfway up the stairs to yell at them that Dee realised they might have taken things a bit too far. While Ileen could have quite a temper when her patience ran out, it wasn't usually directed at Dee. Honestly, her friend tended to have an almost saint-like patience with Dee's antics, and somewhere at the very back of her mind, Dee was likely aware of this.
Ileen's reaction was enough to deflate her a little, turning her mood just a smidgen contrite, a little more willing to compromise. Percival, however, managed to destroy all of that with just a few words. "Me?" she spat back, her temper snapping, much too loud for their surroundings. His use of her full name only made her more angry, her terrible mood boiling over. "Who's the one who can't get over a stupid accident and a few paint splashes that happened months ago?" And of course he followed that up with a comment about blood. She should have known he'd be one of those, feeling ridiculously superior because of something as stupid as blood. Her mum was worth ten of his sort. "Get over yourself, Raincoat," she sneered. "Honestly, I'm glad I'm not a pureblood, just for the fact that it makes it less likely that I'm even remotely related to you. The thought makes me sick."
The words were harsh, cutting, but she couldn't make herself regret them. Rainwood had done everything in his power to provoke this. He wanted to be her verbal punching bag? She'd happily take her frustration out on him.

It wasn't visible under her makeup, but Ileen's cheeks turned red with anger. She was so sick of this! She didn't really know how to de-escalate the situation, which was slowly but surely getting out of control. Apparently, both Percival and Dee were the type of kids who would rather lash out when they were in a bad mood than back down. Both did their part to further inflame the argument, and Ileen looked from left to right as if following a quick pass at Quidditch - something she would never do, of course. Ew, Quidditch. Goodbye, relaxing Halloween Eve… Now at the latest, she had definitely given up on that. She also wasn't so sure anymore if throwing their opinions at each other would really help them.
“What’s the matter with you?” The question wasn’t addressed to someone specific as it applied to both. She still stood between the ranting students and tried to find a position where she could separate them with her body and still keep an eye on both of them. Impossible, as it turned out, unless she grew eyes out of the back of her head - something that was beyond her abilities so far.
After a moment's consideration, she decided that physical separation was the most important thing right now, and she preferred to take turns looking back and forth. Following an impulse, she drew her wand and gave Dee and Percival her mum-glare of the first order. She was quite prepared to step in and jinx them both with the Sneezig Hex if necessary.
“You both are acting childish. Come on, she destroyed your guitar and it was an accident. She even fixed it!” With her first argument she approached the Slytherin boy, unable to read his reaction since he was still covered with sunglasses and the bedsheet.
But she would not spare Dee either. With flashing eyes, she turned to her best friend. “And you provoked him all along even though you knew he would be offended! Grow up! Both of you! We have enough other problems!”

Deen vs. Percileen
Percival felt as if his chest and face were boiling. A part of him wondered if he touched his face if it would be hot. The boy's fingers trembled and he was once again thankful for the sheet that covered his body. Percival was sure that if Dealla had seen his hands shake she would make some harsh comment about him being scared or something stupid.
The boy found that he was at a loss of words as Dealla spoke. How dare she act as if he should completely be unbothered by her ruining his most treasured items. The shirt he could get over, but the boy highly doubted he could get over her trashing his guitar. Images of the guitar's corpse still haunted his mind. The guilt of letting the heirloom come to harm twisted at his guts. Though self-righteous indignation decided that Dealla was the only one at fault here. "OH I'm sorry Dealla let me thank you for smashing my guitar into pieces." he snarked harshly at the girl.
Percival barely listened to Ileen as she began to yell at the two of them. Their voices reverberated off the stone walls, and it was a wonder no one had gone to see what all the bickering was about. "How does that make it any better?!" he practically yelled at Ileen. His palms felt sweaty and he wondered when it had gotten so hot on the stairwell. His gaze flicked back towards Dealla as he felt the sudden urge to shove Dealla.
Inwardly, deciding that a little shove of retribution would be a great idea. It didn't occur to him that they were indeed still on stairs, and one small push could lead to a rather unfortunate end. Or that Ileen was still very much in between him and Dealla. In his angry haze, nothing mattered more than besting Dealla at her own game. Percival couldn't keep up with Dealla in a verbal fight. She always seemed one step ahead of him. Drilling into his nervous system with her sharp tongue. Though, in a physical fight, he had a better chance. The boy wasn't against fighting a girl. Especially, when that girl was Dealla Prince. Percival raised both his hands and stepped forward quickly to try and shove the red-headed girl.

Dee rolled her eyes, trying to calm her temper enough to seem dismissive. It likely wouldn't fool anyone attentive enough, her cheeks were flushed and she was breathing too heavily, but she kind of expected Rainwood to be too angry to notice. "Oh please," she sniffed. "I repaired it, too, it was probably better after than it was before. I feel bad for it, though, having to be strangled by you all the time. Maybe it would have rather stayed broken."
She was starting to gain momentum here, forcing a smile onto her face that was as sharp as her words. The next words were already on her tongue - Rainwood was easy to cut, many, many open places to dig into - when Ileen forcefully reminded her, both of them, of her presence. Dee's mouth dropped open. "I am acting childish?" she exclaimed.
Ileen had all the power over her that she refused to give Rainwood. She hadn't started this. She hadn't even known it had been Rainwood under that chopped up bed sheet until he had immediately started insulting her again, as he had just about every time they had met. Dee was just defending herself, how could Ileen not see that?
"I am? He's the one who just can't leave me alone, it's like he's obsessed with me or something." Her voice was rising, climbing higher, betraying how upset she was. "What am I supposed to do?" Abruptly clamping her mouth shut, she tried to fight down the hurt. She wasn't here to yell at Ileen, that hadn't been the intention.
As always, it was all Rainwood's fault.
Turning back towards the boy, her eyes flashing, her mouth was already open again to shoot him down - until she saw him moving towards her, and then, half a second delayed, his raised hands. Dee flinched from him, for a moment incredulous. Really? Was he going to hit her now?
Her reflexes had her dancing backwards, feet sure enough even on the stairs that his shove missed her narrowly. She sneered at him. "Out of words now? It's not my fault that you showed up unarmed to a battle of wits. Say, do you have to put in effort to be this pathetic?"
But the words died on her tongue, as did her anger, when she watched the events in front of her unfold. The momentum that had been in that misguided shove had to go somewhere, after all - and it seemed to go where likely both of them had wanted it the least. Her heartbeat seemed to slow for a moment, thump, thump, eyes widening, but there was nothing she could do but taste the panic spread in her mouth.

Now the mood has changed completely. The wave of rage and pain crashed over Ileen, taking with it the last bit of control she had been able to muster. Of course she knew why she was now being dragged into this fight, she had interfered after all. But she wouldn't let either of them yell at her just because they were both in a bad mood. To a small part of herself, of course, it was clear that she was a hypocrite, as she herself was stubborn and unforgiving.
But she was just a child and her eyes were fixed on the bad and dark things that had happened in the fight club. She just didn't have any understanding for these childish arguments when she tried to hold everything together in her own way. Not that that worked particularly well or was the best approach, but who was perfect?
Her gaze met Percival first. “Oh, man up! You are hurt and since your friend is abandoning you and making you suffer and you need a valve to release pressure and that is Dee!” That was a wild guess, but maybe she was right. Since the summer camp and the fight club Percival had been alone a lot. Ileen had paid attention to him because she had managed to stop him there. Thus he had gained her trust and respect and even more: She felt kind of responsible for him.
Subconsciously, perhaps, she had expected that it had noticed the same thing and now she was disappointed and hurt that he did not see this importance of their relationship and, above all, was not willing to bury his grudge against Dealla for it.
Then her eyes met the sparkling blue ones of Dealla. Her gaze was hard and unrelenting. “Yes, he’s obsessed with you, but you are hurting him. It might not feel that way for you because to you it’s all fun, but some people can’t laugh about these jokes. Maybe, that’s your blind spot!”
Ileen turned around to storm off. She couldn’t take it anymore. She had maneuvered herself into a position she was not ready for. She was emotionally and psychologically unable to be yelled at by her best friend and criticized by one of the few Slytherins she respected. She would now step out of the line of fire because she had no desire to be collateral damage.
As she saw the movement she stopped. Her instinct made her freeze on her heel. Her body acted without her permission.
Percival wanted to push Dee and Ileen wouldn’t allow that. Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Dee stepped aside to avoid the attack and Ileen took a step toward Percival, her arms half spread, mouth open to say words that would not pass her lips.
Hands hit her hard on the shoulder and knocked her off balance. Percival crashed down on her with his entire body weight and Ileen lost her footing. For a second she felt weightless as she was knocked over and fell backwards down the stairs. Her head hit painfully on the first step.

Deen vs. Percileen
Percival couldn't help but feel as if he was looking at the situation in slow motion. He had missed Dealla completely. Though it hadn't had any reason to do with his aim. Rather, Dealla was able to see him coming quite clearly and was able to sidestep him easily. It would have hurt his pride more if he hadn't crashed straight into Ileen only seconds later.
The boy's eyes widened as he fell into Ileen. Percival's hands hit the girl's shoulders before shooting up over them as he lost his balance completely. Their faces crashed into one another. Lips smacking together and cutting as their teeth clipped into one another. A faux kiss. Percival tasted blood on his tongue. It was thick and the coppery taste was overpowering. His lips felt like they were four times bigger than their original size. Though, these would soon be the least of his problems. His stomach dropping as a weightless feeling overcame him.
Falling down the stairs should have been scarier than he felt at this moment. His heart sped up as he watched the ground get closer and closer. Unlike Ileen, Percival had a front-row seat to the enclosing impact. The boy couldn't bring himself to scream despite the growing pressure in his lungs and throat. The shock had a stronghold over his tongue. Keeping him from saying a peep as they fell. Percival hit the floor hard head first. His vision blacking out as he fully lost consciousness. The boy would remain oblivious to the world around him for several seconds. As the boy slowly came back into the waking world, he noted his vision blurring and twirling as he moved to try and sit up. The dizziness brought a sense of nausea and the boy paused in his motions as he tried to catch his breath.

Time didn't slow down the way it did in the movies. Or maybe it did for Ileen and Percival, the fall triggering the appropriate chemicals in their brains to make them process the situation faster, but for Dee, things happened too fast. If time had slowed down, maybe she would have been able to move, try to avert the disaster.
She was still dancing backwards out of Percival's reach, the smile tinged with cruelty on her face and sharp words on her tongue, and Ileen and Rainwood were already falling. Well. Ileen was falling, Percival had basically tackled her down the stairs - which had been his intention for her, not her friend.
Ileen's last words were echoing in her head. No, that wasn't her blind spot. She didn't care if she hurt Percival, her words had been designed to hurt, to cut where they found exposed flesh. It had been intentional, and outlet for her bad mood, this cruel streak she rarely showed. She'd drawn satisfaction from it, her ugliest parts coming to the surface. Would have gone further. No. Her mistake had been not considering that her actions might not just reflect back at her, but end up harming Ileen.
By the time she'd stopped, managed to move and react, her outstretched hand was far too late. "No," she gasped. They were falling together, tangled limbs, Ileen backwards where she'd hit first, but both of their heads colliding with stairs and floor. Dee had crossed the stairs, taking three steps at a time, before they'd fully come to rest, but neither of them seemed to be moving. Not that Dee spared more than half a thought for Percival's state.
"Ileen!" Her voice was only a croak, panicked and frantic, her throat clogging up. Her hands were moving towards her friend - she'd hit her head, what if she'd injured her neck - before she jerked them back. Were you supposed to move someone with neck or head injuries? Dee didn't know, had never looked into it. Didn't know any healing spells, hadn't tried to learn. Ileen was the healer between the two, Dee the one with the uncanny knack to get hurt in some reckless endeavor, those were supposed to be their roles. She wasn't prepared for them to be reversed. "Ileen," she repeated, barely managing to choke the words out, just before Percival started stirring near them. "Get up."

Little stars twinkled in front of Ileen's eyes after she hit her head hard on the stairs.
Not that it would have helped her avoid what came next if she were able to actually see something.
The Slytherin boy had truly stumbled into her and practically tackled her down the stairs. A moment later, she felt his mouth on hers, teeth digging into her lip as they crashed together, and then she tasted blood.
A silent gasp escaped her, as she hit the stairs, pressing all air from her lungs. Percival and she were just a ball of arms and legs rolling down the stairs like in a comic book. Ileen had reflexively narrowed her dark brown eyes, clenched her teeth and pulled her chin to her chest chest. A reflex to protect her own head. But she could not stop her fall, the blonde Slytherin had given them both too much momentum on the way.
As they both came to a stop, Ileen didn’t dare to move. Her eyes still closed she tried not to throw up. Everything around her was spinning, every single inch of her body did hurt, especially the back of her head and she was sure there would be only darkness and mockingly twinkling stars when she opened her eyes.
As she lay there quietly, it took a while before she realized that something was wrong with the sounds. She heard nothing, only rustling. Maybe the rush of her own blood in her ears? And then suddenly a familiar voice came through to her. Dee, who called her name and ordered her to get up.
Carefully, the Slytherin opened her eyes, not surprised, that everything was still spinning. Her eyes met the sparkling blue ones of her best friend who was crouching next to her. With a moan, she slowly pushed herself in a sitting position, something she immediately did regret because it made her even more sick. Urgh. Careful, she really didn’t want to throw up. “I- what…” She had troubles to speak a clear sentence and slightly turned her head to look for Percival. “Are you...?”
