Scarlett gave a little mock sigh to Sarah. "Something we agree upon at least. Did you hear that she's hosting a New Year's Gala? Her parents haven't been heard about for months and here she is hosting a gala."
The pure-blooded students had been chattering about it through the corridors. Scarlett found the idea to be gaudy, low-class and attention-seeking, just like Beckett herself. A gala whilst she was living with her aunt and uncle, her parents mysteriously vanishing from pure-blood society? And while the host herself was practically depressed with severe anger issues? Money can't buy happiness, but it was evident that Beckett was not aware of this fact.
"Spooky," deadpanned Scarlett, in response to the next sentence. "But don't the merfolk and grindylows live in water? How could you - oh. The Slytherin Common Room is located near the lake, underground or something, right?"
Scarlett turned to the girl, who was introducing herself as Lily and laughing with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Lily?" asked Scarlett with arched eyebrows. How people managed one up, one down was beside her. "Okay then...first-year? And what house?"
At that moment, someone else joined their party. A short-haired brunette, a first-year. The one Scarlett had met at the Masquerade. (Merlin that had been a disaster) Also a Lily, also a girl with a tendency to slip into a foreign language. Lily - Cawthi - then did just that, introducing herself in Welsh or Russian or whatever (oh, it was Welsh) and then proceeding to correct herself in English. Scarlett knew that people normally liked to introduce themselves so she didn't talk, but did raise a hand in greeting.────── ☆ ───────

Sarah found herself cringing at the mention of the Beckett Gala - the one her father had accepted an invitation too. She personally couldn’t imagine anything worse. Not only did she adamantly despise anything overly lavish and downright pretentious like every ball her father had insisted on hosting, but the thought of it being one held by Ana’s family left even more to be desired. She’d been desperately trying to think of a way out of it, even contemplating staying here at Hogwarts over the holidays, but her father was yet to budge. She hesitated for a moment, about to admit her invitation to the event, but thought better of it. It wasn’t as though she wanted to go anyway. Instead she nodded rolling her eyes in agreement to Scarlett’s unimpressed voice.
“Yeah, down in the dungeons. Always welcoming for the first years,” Sarah chuckled softly. It was so normal for her to go down the stairs to her common room and she enjoyed looking out into the Great Lake. There was a large window beside her bed which she often looked out of when she wanted to calm herself. “It’s actually super interesting watching below the lake.”
Sarah watched as another girl approached, suddenly four of them standing beside the lake. Not exactly how I’d seen my day going, Sarah thought to herself. She couldn’t bring herself to mind though, enjoying meeting new people. It took her longer than most to start trusting someone meaning the number of people she could really call ‘friends’ was small, small enough to count on her fingers. Still, she loved talking to people, even if it didn’t go anywhere, fascinated by finding things out about people.
She found herself smiling as the new girl, another Lily, slipped into Welsh. It made something bubble inside Sarah’s stomach, not having heard the language for so long. She didn’t often get the chance since it had just been her and her father and she missed their holiday home in the Valleys, missed her grandparent, more than she had realised.
“Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve heard anyone speaking Welsh,” Sarah said, allowing a wide smile to stretch across her face. “It always reminds me of my grandparents,” She added in Welsh, the language coming to her almost as naturally as English. She went to speak again, opening her mouth as she watched the girl slip. Oh, Merlin. Her eyes widened, unable to do anything but watch as she fell into the lake.
“You know, it’s practically a rite of passage to fall into the lake,” She said, repeating her earlier sentiment as she quickly stepped towards the girl and offered her a hand. “It happens to the best fo us.” She smiled warmly at the girl, hoping her words might push away any embarrassment.

Note | Just wanted to let you all know I'm changing Lily's dialogue colour to #808000. Just don't get too confused XDIt seemed these girls could switch between topics effortlessly, unbeknownst about it too. Trying not to be prejudiced at the moment was hard for her. She tried not to make inquiries of the girls, only knowing them for around 5--no, 10? That sounded better, around 10 minutes only, it would be unfair to judge them immediately.
What New Year's Gala party? What the hell was a gala in the first place? Oh my, missing parents? And, who the hell was "Ana Beckett", still! Did they even know she didn't know the girl? Oh, it wasn't important. Gossip, gossip, gossip...
All of a sudden, a short haired brunette decided to join the party. Great. Introducing herself in Welsh and Sarah responding with a thanks and more Welsh. This was getting boring. It was time to annoy people.
Planning a modest, mild, and simple innocent kind of prank, the main idea was--yes--you know it. To fall into the "great lake". Wasn't that so amazingly spectacular? Right after they told you not to? Yes, it was.
With a mischievous little grin on her face. She decided to wait for the perfect time. The perfect time to cause chaos. Not extreme chaos, but at the least stir up a little something that was more entertaining.
Moving her foot slightly to the muddy brim of the lake, in the matter of seconds, she found the perfect time. With one hard push, she fell in.

It was a great feeling for some reason. Knowing you created chaos. When she came up she was smiling. Sarah seemed, somewhat, entertained? Or, Lily was unsure. Pulling herself out, she was smiling. Yes, smiling.

At least someone shared the same thoughts as her - the Beckett gala was not something to be excited about. Scarlett's eyes flickered and darted around, looking for something to stare at until she could figure out a new conversation starter. Yet, at that moment, Welsh Lily fell into the lake with a giant splash. Scarlett whipped round and quickly went over to where Welsh Lily had fallen. She remembered how cold and dark it was in the lake and she didn't exactly want anyone to experience the feeling, apart from those she hated. Sarah's hand was already outstretched towards Welsh Lily, so Scarlett hung around and tried to offer some comfort. "Don't worry - this always happens," she said. "I fell, Sarah fell - I think - and I'm sure there'll be more people to come."
And then there was another splash. What the heck? Two first-years in one day, and Scarlett was there to witness it. She glanced over at Sarah and her eyes seemed to roll ever so slightly, as if to say 'Can you believe these people?' The other Lily, the Chinese - or was it Russian - one had gone in as well. Not wanting to pass up on her chance to help a fellow lake-faller, Scarlett stretched her hand out and offered her help, but this Chinese Lily had had it sorted and had already pulled herself out. "So how was the experience?" asked Scarlett, taking in Chinese Lily's sopping-wet robes. "Do you wanna go back to the castle to change or something? You look a bit...damp."────── ☆ ───────
