2020, Stage 1 Group B: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw

Mars was honestly—quite surprised when their spell hit Katrina. So far they'd either dodged or had rotten luck, but for once, it'd actually landed! They let out a slight whoop of joy, watching as Cel's spell hit as well and the Gryffindor's motion of ripping the blindfold off was rendered void.

That's when the dancing kicked in. They'd forgotten that was an effect (how, I have no idea, since it's quite literally called the "Dancing-Feet" Spell), focusing more on blasting out whatever came to their head first. Watching her reminded them of the Chess Match—a wave of embarrassment rolled up in them at the thought.

Refraining from a snarky comment this round, they averted their eyes from the Gryffindor's predicatment. If anyone made fun of her, they were going to smite them. For now, though, they had bigger fish to fry. It seemed Calanthe'd managed to break out, albeit looking horrible weak from the effects of the curse they'd landed early on.

Mars glanced at Cel, trying to catch her eye. They nodded, bringing their wand to their chest, and prepared for the next round to start.

Just as she saw her opponent remove the blindfold, her second spell hit her in the face again, conjuring a replacement. Cel grinned in satisfaction, and as a jet of light from her partner's side of the stage hit its mark, she beamed even more, almost proud—they made a good team.

Calanthe was free, though, she noticed, the Gryffindor's struggles finally coming to fruition. Even moving, though, she didn't look so good. But it never hurt to be safe. The girl passed behind Mars, adjusting her position to better watch both of her opponents, and offered a acknowledging but wordless pat on the back for the spell as she went by—as bad as she felt for Katrina, understanding her frustration completely, success deserved recognition.

She raised her wand again—two on two again, no time to waste. For a second she caught Mars's eye, a silent communication, and then her gaze was fixed on the Gryffindors once more.

Tap dancing while blindfolded... Zahid would not have thought that to be an easy thing, but Miss Walker kept her balance and actually succeeded in hitting her partner with a healing spell. Sure, her success was largely due to the close proximity and the fact that the loud sneeze gave her a target area to hone in on but still: Not bad.
Miss Choi's aim was also surprisingly sure – despite her ailing state – but her spell whizzed past Mars T'ien, missing the Ravenclaw seemingly only by a hairbreadth. They had made a good call by diving out of the spell's path.
Miss Gray's spell, on the other hand, had little to no effect as her target was already blindfolded. A gamble that had worked out well just moments ago but turned into a seemingly wasted spell this time around.

Mars was glad they chosen to fold their wand into their body and dive out of the way this time around. The arc of Calanthe's spell barely whizzed by, close enough that they could feel the displacement of the air around it. Curse of the Bogies, it looked like, which—glancing at the Gryffindor herself and at their teammate—was something they were glad they'd avoided.

An immediate frown flashed over their face when they realized Katrina was casting something at her teammate. What, friendly-fire? Unless... but she wasn't a Third Year, was she? She was! Sh*t.

Cursing at themselves for forgetting the fact, they watched as Calanthe's cold seemed to lessen under the effect of the Healing Charm. It was honestly... quite impressive, seeing as Katrina was still dancing around with the blindfold on.

Speaking of blindfolds, they were glad Cel had stuck to her guns and cast the spell again, even if it hadn't been of much use this time around. It was always better to be safe than sorry. Gritting their teeth, they forced themselves to grin again. In all honestly, twists like this made it fun; just meant that they and Cel would have to be that little bit sharper, that tiny bit smarter. They were Ravenclaws, after all, this was their forte.

"Hey! Come back from the dead, huh?" they shouted at Calanthe, eyes twinkling slightly. Whipping their wand back to front, Mars muttered under their breath, "Next time, I hope you stay down."

Just when things were looking up, they started going down. Internally Cel sighed, externally she did nothing at all, but it was hard not to feel annoyed when her spell was wasted on the blindfold that was already wrapped around her opponent's forehead.

And what was more, the other one was free. Oh, well, it was bound to happen sometime—separating the two had worked so far, but nothing worked forever. At least neither of them had gotten hit, and even as waves of nausea rolled over her, watering her eyes a little, she could suck it up for a while yet. They weren't done here, were they? Grinning in the face of her own dismay, she raised her wand again.

The odds may have been extreemly against her, but Katrina felt a little lift of accomplishment and hope. She was still doing the weird tap dancing jig thing, and her ankles were starting to get quite sore, and the blindfold was still on her face, but Katrina managed to cast Reparifors on her partner.

It was her favorite spell. Healing, the one magic aspect she knew she could always rely on. Hopefully that could keep her partner from passing out just yet. Now what?

The sensation of relief was only momentary. Calanthe tried to hold onto the elusive feeling for as long as possible. Yet, as the refreshing aura of the spell wafted away from her body, the tickle in her nose returned. Hands still trembling from the effects of the head cold, the young witch looked to her partner for a glimpse at her thoughts, then returned her gaze to the annoying duo before them.

It seemed Mars T`ien had found their calling when it came to duelling: wait their opponents out. From what Zahid could see, they were far more intent on avoiding getting hit than casting any spells themselves. However it also seemed their partner was quite a force to be reckoned with on her own. Miss Gray once again aimed true and Miss Walker would have only a moment to notice her impending doom after removing her blindfold before locking up and toppling over. Miss Choi, while looking better than she had moments before, still suffered from heavy sneezing and so her spell harmlessly hit the floor next to Miss Gray's shoes.

Fate was, once again, against the poor third year. She managed to tear the blindfold off her eyes just long enough to see the bright light near her. She fell to the ground paralyzed.

This duel was getting worse and worse. All of her planning and preparation had been for absolutely nothing. Katrina channeled all of her frustration into getting free, hopefully that’d be enough.
