The Hufflepuff Table 2020-2021
As the petite girl with red hair, green eyes and freckles Evelyn Folse sat and said, “That was a hard day” even though she might not have said it to anybody in particular, Verner found himself agreeing completely. He even nodded subconsciously.
And when she started with her introduction, he thought to himself how quick she was. Already interacting easily with new people, with complete strangers — not so long ago. *”Okay, she might have been together with some of them on the train,”* he rationalised his thinking, but as he observed, it did not look like she knew anybody around from the train nor from the boat ride across the lake. Verner smiled and kept watching her and most of the people around silently, eating his cake.
Verner first wanted to see if she would come closer, since she seemed to be moving along the table to another girl close by and he wondered what would happen next, but just in case he also introduced himself aloud *”Hello, my name is Verner Llf”*
With a little bit of anxiety, because Verner usually was not the one to start conversations, but full of expectation, he tried to join the conversation around the table hoping somebody would react to his words as well.

Just after she had introduced herself to the girl boy about her age with blonde hair and blue eyes introduced himself. Evelyn was immediately relived, starting conversations was hard. Maybe she could make friends after all. Maybe the wizarding world would end up making sense after all. She sure hoped so. She smiled at him ”Hi, I’m Evelyn Folse. Well you probably heard me before. You're a first year too, aren’t you? she vaguely remembered seeing him at the sorting, though she hadn’t been paying much attention, being much to worried about her own sorting. She thought back to standing in the hall. A wave of panic overwhelming her. Later, she had heard some older kids talking about it apparently she had been something called a hat stall. She had no idea what that was only that it had seemed to take forever. The sensation had been odd too, she had heard the hat in her head. It had talked she still couldn't wrap her mind around it. ”Isn't this amazing? And the ceiling? Do they enchant it to show different weather? Instantly she worried she had made a fool of herself. This was probably normal to the majority of the kids in the hall. “And the foods amazing too! And hot! How did they do that? she paused she’d done it again without even noticing! “Sorry” she said embarrassed “Got a little to excited”

*”Amazing? Definitely!”*, Verner laughed.
*”I have never seen anything like this either…”* he started explaining himself, gesturing with his hands at everything around, but stopped half way remembering some of the talk he heard on the train about *muggles and mudbloods* — the non magical folk — from some groups of other children. He instinctively knew they have meant it in a bad way.
*”She probably does not mind that”* Verner happily realised as she started apologising and quickly replied *”Don’t be sorry, you haven’t done anything wrong! I am thrilled myself”*
Looking at Evelyn, Verner admitted today was the first time he entered magical world alone, well if we omit one quick trip to the Diagon Alley with parents and a teacher who acted as a guide for them.
*“I am a muggle born as they seem to call it”* he smiled a bit embarrassed. *”I still am unsure what to think… But we are part of Hufflepuff house… and they say the sorting hat never makes a mistake”* he started blabbering, letting his thoughts escape from his mouth quickly, all excited now that he had someone to talk to.
Suddenly he remembered a sentence or two about the ceiling from the book *Hogwarts a history* he has been reading or rather skipping through on the train. *”I think you’re right, it is enchanted, they wrote it in one of our books…”*
*”Did you have any preference for the house to be sorted into?”* Verner asked, and also *”What subject are you looking forward to the most?”*
And then he stopped, thinking *”Easy Verner, slow down”* and laughed *”I hope I have not overwhelmed you with my flood of questions”*

Perry Dorfin was sat right next to the Muggle-Born students Verner Lif and Evelyn Folse. Perry glared at the two muggle-borns. It wasn't fairly unusual for Muggle's to be wizards or witches. Perry had perceived himself as a muggle just a few days ago. Until his mother decided to tell him she was Pure-Blood. However magic was never exactly hidden from him.
Perry noticed how talkative the two appeared to be. Perry was usually introverted. But this time he didn't want to be alone, he was gonna make some friends or at least try to. 'You never know who you might meet, and these fellow Hufflepuff look like good people.'
Perry thought to himself, however thoughts weren't gonna get anything done. So he cleared his throat, and began to speak.
"Hello, my name is Perry Dorfin, what're your names. Also, sorry if I'm intruding into your conversation. I'm just new to this whole magic thing...then again you guys probably are too..." Perry did not feel like talking anymore, his courage had slowly been ripped away from him. He spoke with a bit of embarrassment, but didn't show it in his facial expressions.
But he had no reason to fear, if they didn't want to be friends. Or even know who he was, that's fine. He was fine with being by himself for the time being. He had no reason not to ask for their names. 'I'm a Hufflepuff for crying out loud! I can't be shy, I've got to be brave!' Thought Perry.

Evelyn smiled"You're not! Oh! I am too! And a teacher helped me too. I didn't really care which house. The sorting hat was debating between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw but eventually put me here. How about you? Evelyn liked talking to him. Maybe she might find friends here after all. I think ill enjoy potions or charms maybe. Hmm, I don't really know. What about you? Evelyn spooned sweet potatoes into her mouth. So good! The food here was amazing! Of course her mothers cooking was great to. But this was great! She looked around the great hall, everyone was chatting and eating. She smiled her year had started off perfect.
Just then a boy introduced himself as Perry. I'm Evelyn she said smiling "And yes we are. My name is Evelyn, Evelyn Folse. Nice to meet you! He seemed nervous and she tried to get him to relax. She had been nervous just a second ago still was actually, but she found talking to people was helping. She was starting to feel more at home and wanted this boy, Perry, to feel the same way. "What subject are you most looking forward to? Isnt the sky cool? I mean the ceiling. And the food! Its so good! And it's hot and it just appeared! She realized she was babbling again Sorry she said smiling I keep getting excited and then just talking on and on.

"Well, I'm knew and don't know much, but I'm looking forward to mainly Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Potions. Maybe some Herbology, I don't really know." Perry said, his courage and confidence being rejuvenated. He thought to himself for a moment, noticing Evelyn's bubbling personality. 'Man, she sure is full of energy.' Perry thought to himself, yet still smiling. 'She's energetic, but I like her a bit.' He said, thinking she would be someone interesting to be around.
"Err, yeah, the ceiling is pretty cool. And the food does taste pretty great!" He said, letting out a smile. He liked good food, and especially loved to eat it. He was starting to feel more comfortable in Hogwarts, his family hadn't told him much about it. But his father had told him it would be a great adventure. "Wait that reminds me," He muttered to himself, though loud enough for Evelyn to hear. "I'm pretty sure I'm some sort of, I dunno, half-blood wizard. It's kind of weird." He said, as he began eating the hot and ready food.
Perry thought of something else to say, his mind wondered around. 'Hopefully she isn't a muggle. And also doesn't feel alienated by me saying that,' Perry digested the food he was eating then began to think some more. 'How did I end up a Hufflepuff anyways, sure I'm loyal and all, but I think I use my intellect more often.' However, deep down Perry knew he was a Hufflepuff at heart.
"I haven't been to the Hufflepuff Common Room yet, it's in the basement ain't it," Perry said after he digested more food. "But anyways, do you want to be friends?" Perry blurted that out, not wanting to immediately say such a thing, but it came out anyways. His confidence meter dropped by a dozen as his face went white, and seemingly cold.
Perry also noticed the boy she was talking to as well. He seemed intelligent, he didn't say anything to the boy, just looked at him with a a grin.

*”I don’t know just yet either, we will have to wait and see”* Verner replied to Evelyn’s question about subjects. He had a feeling he could do well if the subjects were interesting, and both of potions and charms certainly sounded like that. He hoped the teachers were nice, that could make a world of difference. And if they were not, maybe he could stay *invisible*. Not physically, but in a sense of unnoticed, Verner has been an expert at that.
Verner did not have any preference on the house he wanted to belong to. So as a reply to Evelyn’s other question he revealed his already overcome anxiety, *”I was most afraid the hat would not decide anything at all”*, and tried to pass it with a cheerful smile, relieved he has been sorted into Hufflepuff.
*”Hello Perry, my name is Verner Llf,”* Verner replied to a skinny black haired boy with a sharp nose and dark brown eyes.
Not used to talking that much to strangers, Verner still remained on the shy and careful side, but he knew he needed at least a few good friends. So maybe this was a start. And a start definitely better than Verner hoped for.
*”We are all in this together”*, those were Verner’s thoughts about his fellow first years so far, and also *”the people around this table seem noticeably nicer than some others I’ve seen and heard on the train”*.
Verner tried to gather his thoughts quickly to continue with the conversation *“Yes… about magic…, frankly I might have imagined something about magic, but this exceeds any and everything I had in mind”*, he said facing Evelyn and Perry.
*”But I am also excited about everything, I can’t wait to start looking around the castle… What about you?“*
Verner smiled and realised Evelyn must be still feeling nervous. *”It’s okay, I am also nervous, especially about the dorms and room mates… let’s do our best?”* he said and leaned a bit back waiting a reaction.

When I posted this I didn't see Verner's reply sorry! I am signed up for Badger Bungalow by the way! (Girls) I don't know if sign-ups work the same for you (they probably do) but I just had to do a story/thread about picking my dorm then wait for approval.
Evelyn's mother had always told her she had a bubbypersonality. Her siblings just called it annoying. She now wasn't sure if she was being too hyper. I don't know much either she said Defense Against the Dark Arts sounds cool and so does Herbology, I looked over our textbook and the plants sound fascinating!
Perry agreed with her about the ceiling and food. Though, Evelyn again wondered if she was being to hyper. She didn't want to scare anyone off. I don't know much either she said smiling I think I'm what they call muggleborn I think Verner is to. Muggleborn I mean. she turned to him Arent you?

This is what she had hoped for! I would love that!!!!!!!!!! she practically screamed it. She looked at her feet, embarrassed, "I'm sorry." She muttered quietly, she knew her excitement got the best of her, but she could not help it sometimes. She quickly stuffed her face with mashed potatoes to avoid looking at them, she was afraid that now that he would change his mind because she had yelled like that, cautiously she looked at them and remembered who exited she had sounded she had said that made her burst out laughing! It's almost time to head to the common room. I think we have to sign up for dorms. Just then the plates cleared and filled with dessert and Evelyn quickly filled her plate.

Happiness flowed into Perry as Evelyn did want to be friends. He grinned at her wildly, but tried to keep in his excitement. "Oh cool, I'm glad we can be friends! Also, hey Verner," He said, as his plate was emptied. "You're a muggle huh?" He said with surprise, he didn't want to sound bad so he tried to hide his surprise. He wanted to get to the common room to sign up for dorms. However he'd have to wait to do so. He was hoping he could be roommates with Verner, he seemed like a cool and fun guy to be around.
"We should probably go check out the dorms, the three of us, I think that's be a good chance to look around the castle." Perry volunteered. He wanted to learn more about Verner and Evelyn. Nodding at his own words as he sat up from his seat and scanned the Great Hall. "There's a password for the Hufflepuff Common Room isn't there? I don't really know it. I guess we'll have to find out sooner or later." He sounded a bit anxious about not knowing much about the password. Wondering if they'd even be let in, or who guards the Common Room, if there even is a guard.

As he heard Evelyn talking about her siblings Verner silently wondered what it was to be like to have siblings, since Verner was an only child.
*“Can I also apply to be your friend?”* Verner said in a serious manner turning to Evelyn. He tried to keep his face straight but a smile escaped soon as he observed Evelyn’s face and waited for a reaction.
If it were not for the festive atmosphere in the great hall at the beginning of the school year, his talk with Evelyn and Perry and him being tired and hungry, Verner might have already sneaked off to do some exploring of his own.
In this case he simply pointed out the Hufflepuff common room seemed to be located on the first floor. “I think our dormitory is on the first floor, but luckily it should not be far away from the kitchen…“*, Verner said explaining he heard some of it on the train. He was not sure himself, so he quickly added *“but even if we are not, someone will probably guide us there”*, and his voice trailed off right when Perry suggested to go explore together.
*“Perry, Evelyn”* Verner said excitedly, *”I agree! We should go explore together!”.
